First, the background: I was driving a new-to-me truck from Cathedral City to Mohave Valley, AZ. I knew nothing about its condition. I was about 15 miles away from them when I started getting warning lights that were serious enough that I needed to stop driving. Bailey's was there for me. Even though they were closing for the night, they took the truck in and promised to diagnose it the next day. It turns out the truck had numerous issues. Diane would call me everyone they either found something wrong, or when they were confident they could rule something out . They went through the entire truck. Giving me realistic opinions on what needed to be fixed right then, and what could wait until some other time. In all, they spent considerable time just diagnosing what was wrong. They gave me a very fair estimate for the work that needed to be done, and after I approved the work, the work they did was done right and done on time. When I picked the truck up, it was as if I had a new truck! It had no problem driving in 113 degree temps for the two hours home. I was so impressed with their work ethic and honesty, I drove our Ford van the 135 mile trip for them to repair the front end and air conditioning. These guys are the best! read more

Lived in 29 for many years and the Baileys were going to the same church as I was at the time...never knew what church they were going tobend up in because they jump from church to church which tells me their probably the problem. Anyway...I had just had to go on disability from hurt my back badly at a job I had been working at for 13 years. Couldn't afford my car payment anymore so I got a old Isuzu truck and had a rebuilt put in. I was driving to Yucca one day and the u-joint or whatever it is just fell. I call and get towed back to Baileys Garage. Couple days later my trucks ready so I call to let them know I was coming to pick up my truck a Diane had answered the phone and has the fkn nerve to say to me...Well you have to pay for it before you can take it.....like I'm really expecting you to do it for free? Ummmm....first off I never asked you for any fkn hand out and ummmm yeah...when you take your car to get fix ...ummm you pay...like I was some kind of bum. So I get my truck back and I fill the gas tank and drive to Yucca. I keep smelling gas and it was strong. I had 2 friends with me. We're on our way back to 29 Palm and I look at the gas tank almost empty and still a horrible gas smell...right in front of the court house my truck caught fire.....yeah they forgot to reattach the feul line. We had to jump the hell out. So here they tow me home. Then David says let me take your truck to the garage to check it out....stupid me thinking they were going to correct there wrong and that was my only transportation at the time....a big fat....NOPE! What the weasels did was fux underneath what they should have so when my insurance was to come look at it they wouldn't find their fk up. Now these people stand in church but yet look down their noses at people. They leave church after church because of conflict. God sees you both and knows exactly what you've done and are doing to people. You didn't in anyway get over on me because God saw you. David Bailey is a thief ! He towed my Mustang out of a ditch in Joshua tree national park and when I couldn't pay him immediately he started charging a hundred dollars per day to hold my car in his fenced in lot, and when it hit a thousand dollars I realized I wasn't getting my car back. I went to his shop to try to work something out with him but he hid in his office and watched me on cctv and sent his minions out to deal with me - what a coward. Several weeks later I saw this jackass driving my car around town. I guess that's how he does business, like a monster without a conscience... I utilized their towing services last week, when a road in Joshua Tree was supposed to be closed to 4WD vihicles wasn't. Apparently someone had removed the barricade from a road and unbeknownst to me, was closed to all vehicles. I got stuck in a massive puddle which was over 3 feet deep in places. I called emergency services via satellite phone, and after waiting 3.5 hours, they arrived. Not just one, but two of them and don't know why the other guy needed an instructor? After pulling me out with a rope, the two of them whispering and said it was $1,000. That was a far cry higher than the $400 (maximum) I was quoted by emergency services. I had the money to pay them, but demanded I follow them out of the remote area to the main paved road. They spirited out very quickly and arrived at the paved road 10 minutes before I did, to be met by 8 park rangers in 4 cars, lights flashing. What they had done was call the park police and told them I refused to pay the tow fee. I was treated like a criminal by the park police and those agents supported their demand of $1,000 for towing. After showing the text of the amount told to me, the police still believed the towers and not me. After a 10 minute standoff, they agreed to $600 cash, down from the $1,000 demanded earlier and lower than the $750 they told the cops. Dirty and slimy company and shame on the JTNP police for being in on the scam! read more

The woman who worked there told me to bring my car in today at 930 ( July 4th) and I brought it in and waited... and no one showed. I stayed home from Hawaii to do this. So I called the number and a man answered. He was horrible and Was extremely rude and told me " it's a holiday, deal with it, we aren't open" I explained the situation and what the woman told me to do ( which i have that call recorded too since my phone screens calls) and he told me that either way, they aren't going to work on my car today. He had the worst attitude I've ever dealt with when it comes to customer service. I then asked to speak to the woman and he told me " no. " Then told me HIS name was Diane. I asked for a new appointment and he said that "either way, no one will work on my car right away even if I have an appt. " he treated me with so much disrespect and made me feel like i was entitled for doing what the woman told me to do. Why have appointments if you don't follow them? She didn't even call me to cancel. I get that it's a holiday but don't tell me to wake up bright and early and come bring my car in if you aren't going to be there. I have the call recorded. I have never in my life been treated with such disrespect from any buisness. I've heard that the people there are mean from the locals around here but everytime I've gone in, I've been treated with kindness. Until today. I had a hell of a time finding the correct hub bearing for my pickup truck. After AutoZone sold me the incorrect bearing set I brought it to Bailey's to have it pressed in when I was alerted it was the wrong bearing. I was told that they would have a good chance to find the correct bearing, even though I cannot find it in any store in the area. The next day it had been repaired. I feel that I was not only charged barely, but treated fairly. The staff that I dealt with was very pleasant and very helpful. read more

Sent the car here for a smog test. They said it failed but to tell us why they wanted to run a "diagnostic" for an addition $150. We took the car to someone else who said it was easy to check and did so and suggested replacing a gas cap--that was it. He didn't charge for the diagnostic. Now, it is common for smog stations to retest a car one more time on the original fee. NOT Bailey's who wanted to be paid all over again. We drove away instead of paying a second time. We went to another smog station in town and they said retests are commonly included and that they always give a second one if necessary with their customers. We paid them to test and they were cheaper than Bailey's and they confirmed the gas cap replacement was all that was needed and it was fine. Had we listened to Bailey's the whole thing would have cost over $260 there, instead of the $106 we ended up paying. And, if we had gone to this other dealer in the first place, we'd only be out $50 in total. Not impressed with Bailey. They look for every chance to add more fees on. read more

I went here to get my car fixed and they gave me a price which I agreed to. But when I went back to pick up my car the price was much higher. Also, I asked them to make sure to keep the windows rolled up because there was a storm coming. Well, they rolled the windows down and the blowing sand and rain made a muddy mess inside. And when I asked them to pay to have it detailed they refused, even though they're the ones responsible for making the mess. read more

I'll keep this as short as possible so you read exactly how bad these guys are. While I was on deployment in 2011, my wife brought in her 2002 Honda Civic because it was having some overheating issues. Mechanics said it was a damaged head gasket and 'replaced it.' A month after the work it overheated again and Baileys paid to get it towed to the Honda dealership, who after taking a look said 'whoever replaced your head gasket didn't do so at all, this almost looks refurbished.' Because of their shoddy work, a while later the head gasket actually DID blow, all because they didn't fix it correctly in the first place. NEVER EVER GO HERE read more

Nephew got stuck in soft sand on the side of the highway in Wonder Valley, and by chance a baileys tow truck appeared. We thought, fantastic. Then we were told it would be 200 to pull from the sand. I paid by credit card over the phone and then the tow operator told my nephew he wanted more cash or he wasnt going to complete the tow I already paid for. I had to tell my nephew to call the police and report being robbed by the driver before the driver would finally do the job. Shaking down a kid on the side of the hwy for more money after your payment had already gone through is disgusting. Then you left him in Wonder Valley With a flat tire. guess the 200 only counted to get him the few feet to the blacktop. Really Lousy of you. Especially since you just made 700 off of the same vehicle last week. read more

Trustworthy mechanics are hard to find, especially in a one-horse desert town next to the entrance of a major National Park, but these guys are an exception. Our 2007 Civic broke down TWICE while we were traveling in the Joshua Tree area, leaving us with no way to get home, and Bailey's went out of their way to make time for us, sort out a complex throttle body sensor issue and get us back on the road. Good, honest people who do good work. Gave us a straight answer both times and were happy to advise us against having a costly repair done when most shops would probably just prefer to rip off some out-of-towners. I can only imagine how many tourists with entitlement issues they have to deal with on a daily basis during the busy season. Just locked my keys in the car and was charged $100 for the service. Took well over 30 mins to get there I was the first call of the day and I did do this to myself but $100 for unlocking the door and waiting in 40 degrees weather for over 30 mins. I need better Insurance! read more

I came here for a smog test. Took an hour although there was no one ahead of me. It's supposed to be walk in but they took their sweet time getting to my vehicle. The clerk was glued to his video game and didn't fully explain the procedure to me. He just left me standing there to figure things out for myself. The owner was displeased with his clerk's response to a question and reprimanded him right in front of me. Super unprofessional. I mean, the kid was totally slacking but come on now. Save that for behind the scenes. When it was finally ready, I was given no instructions of what to do next (this would be a new vehicle registration from out of state and CA is weird). Again, I had to ask him for next steps. I wouldn't come back here again. Oh and he also had trouble running my card. Took 10 mins. I had to call my bank and make sure it hadn't been ran like 5 times. read more

Broke down in Joshua tree national park. AAA towed me to Bailey's Friday afternoon at about 4:45pm. I told them it was a fuel pump problem. They said they will do the diagnostic for $135 and if it was they would include that in to the repair cost. They were closed for the weekend and would look at it Monday morning. I called 3 times that day and they finally looked at it around 2pm. I get a call back at 4:53pm telling me it was the fuel pump, they would not roll the diagnostic fee into the repair and it was an additional $700 to fix. So I was stuck in a hotel all weekend waiting to hear back nothing but bad news. Called AAA again and got the van towed back to Torrance and repaired for cheaper than what they wanted. Yes the people were friendly. Just crazy expensive because you have no other choices. Not happy with the service and do not recommend them. read more

My car had a bad starter and I didn't know what the problem was initially. I brought the vehicle into Baileys and they were very helpful in finding out the issue. Once the problem was known the part was replaced and work was done at a very fast and efficient pace. Maybe I just had come on a slow day, but the service I received was great. I had brought my car here numerous times and each time they told me a price and then raised it drastically later on down the line for things that didn't need to be done. My husband and I came out for the day for business at the base. So naturally our alternator decided to die. I called three shops and they all told me they were too busy to help us. Even when I explained that we didn't live here and needed to get back home. I called Bailey's, expecting to hear that a fourth time. And I did. But then Fred said just bring it in. We'll look at it. When I got there the shop was indeed very busy. But they worked us in somehow. I sat in their office all day so I can attest that these are truly nice people. I'm so grateful they fixed our car and we were able to get back home. I got stuck in Joshua Tree National Park, and NPS had to call a tow for me. I needed a 4x4 to pull me out of the soft sand on the first half of Geology Tour Road. I was concerned because that meant I had to pay whatever price some tow truck place decided to charge, and I assumed it would be outrageous. Was I ever lucky! The tow truck from Bailey's showed up & pulled me out quickly. The fee was incredibly fair and reasonable*. The driver even reminded me that if I had car insurance, it probably covered towing on the rental, and gave me some recommendations for spots to see, since it was my first visit to the area. It was all handled very quickly, professionally, and in a no-nonsense fashion. * Reasonable is not the same as cheap. If you get stuck in the middle of nowhere and you need a heavy-duty truck to come save you, it's going to cost you. read more

This shop is by far the best. They have amazing customer service and truly care about the customer and their vehicle repair. I'm a single mom and didn't have transportation back to my house after I dropped my car off to be fixed, instead of having me wait for hours they offered to give me a ride home. When I forgot my sons car seat they even dropped it off for me. They are good hearted people not just looking to make a quick buck- and this is the second time that I've taken my car there. Aside from their customer service their work is excellent as well. I have recommended to all my friends to take their vehicles to baileys- i wouldn't trust anyone else, especially not in twentynine palms. most car repair places and dealerships are sheisty... but really this place is good to go. read more

Rude, Slow, Expensive, and Not worth the trouble. My wife's car had a severe engine rattle so we arranged to have it towed here. The tow truck driver showed up exactly on time, but then was extremely rude. He was short tempered, passive-agressive, and at one point literally threw his hands in the air. I was tempted to tell him to just leave, but he was already here so I went with it. We had an appointment for a diagnostic Wednesday morning as soon as the car arrived. We called that afternoon and they still hadn't looked at it. We called twice more on Thursday and still nothing. They finally had something when my wife called Friday evening. They told her she had run out of oil and the motor was bad. Then they told her they found this out by draining the oil and putting new stuff in. New stuff they claimed to have to 'Special Order'. They didn't explain anything about why she was out of oil or what damage had been done. (There were no leaks, no smoke, no spray, and we'd checked the oil three days before and it was full.) I have more mechanical experience than my wife so when I called back on Monday I asked a few more questions. I found out that changing the oil was almost the full extent of their diagnostic. They just filled the oil and started the car up. That was it. Then they claimed that a replacement engine would be $10,000! Plus a minimum of $2000 to put it in. I'm not sure where they got their figures but a 30 second google search listed 3 engines in the area for $1300 - $4000. I was also then informed that if I didn't get the car out of their garage by the following day they were going to start charging a $60 a day storage fee. I immediately went in to pay and had them tow it back here. I was more than a little pissed and that didn't change when I got the bill. They charged us $92 for five quarts of oil. Five quarts of oil they claim to have 'special ordered' but is listed on the reciept as something I could have walked to the auto parts store half a block away and bought. (Just for the record that works out to $18.38 a quart.) Do not use this garage. Ever. For anything. read more

AAA sent these folks to the 29 Palms military base to help me with my car. The key got stuck in the ignition & I couldn't turn the car fully off or on; my husband & I both tried to get they key out, but it wouldn't budge. The tow truck arrived in less than 30 minutes & the driver able to get the key out in less than 5 minutes. He was very kind & courteous - if I ever have car troubles in 29 Palms again, I'll be calling these folks! read more

First time we took our vehicle in they kept it for 2 weeks with no communication, we called to ask for an update and was told they would call us back. After the 1st week we thought they must be really busy, no problem, it happens. Getting close to the 2nd week still no call, we ended up just picking up our truck and was told they were just getting ready to call us. We took it as they were very busy, no problem. This time my husband took in our other vehicle and told them what he thought it was, now mind you this is our only vehicle so we had to rent a vehicle so he could continue to go to work. 3 weeks later we again had no communication from anyone, again, we just went and retrieved our vehicle. This is unfortunate because they are a local reputable business and we support local businesses. I cannot believe the lack of communication as well as the lack of any remorse for no communication. The woman that answered the phone didn't have the slightest comprehension of what I was saying to her. She almost sounded like she was intoxicated. She couldn't figure out the major cross streets I was at. I had to call back after waiting 45 minutes just to find out she didn't even send anyone! DO NOT GO HERE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY. My husbands Cruze was broken, it only needed the water outlet replaced. They were close to us and always see cars in so I figured I would give them a try. A 52$ dollar part at autozone. I took my car in cause I didn't have the time to replace. For starters they charged me 90$ for a leak check. Said I had 4 holes in my radiator, needed a new water outlet, new hoses, and a flush... for 650$.....They definitely took advantage of a female and thinking I didn't know what I was talking about. Dude was sketchy and it took them all day to even check my car when they said they were free to look at it. I had to call when it was 5:03 pm (they are closed) and get ahold of them myself after not hearing all day. Told me the price and I was there first thing in the morning to take my car out of there!! Took it to a local guy who came to my home, he replaced only the water outlet, and did a flush. My radiator didn't need to be replace nor did the hoses or anything else they listed. **120$ later instead of at baileys 650$. * my cars been running now for 3 months no issues. So clearly didn't need what they were trying to sell. If I could give 0 stars I would. I've told every person I know about not coming to your shop,and will continue to do so, as well as posting on local fb pages.I DONT KNOW HOW THEY ARE IN BUSINESS! read more

I had my radiator problem fixed with this shop recently and they did a good job on it. What i must point out is that these people are thieves. I had an OBD pocket scanner in my glove box when I took the car in, once I picked it up I drove it home and was about to check my wives check engine light and noticed my scanner was gone. I called the shop the next day during working hours and asked about it. The lady told me that no one even saw a scanner in my car and that no one has one like it in that shop. After using the scanner numerous times and keeping in my glove box for over 2 years i doubt it has been misplaced. I highly discourage EVERY ONE from making business with these thieves.
