I had a $10 birthday reward as a rewards member which was awesome, so decided to pig out! Hubby ordered the steak burrito, enchilada style; I ordered a shrimp taco and tried a Baja bowl from their new blackened citrus menu. The cashier was pleasant and helpful. Our order was prepared fairly quickly and we picked up at the counter. The burrito was a good size, and chock full of steak. The cheese could have been a little "meltier" and had some more sauce but hubby liked it. The cheesy tortilla chips side was fun. He appreciated that it came in a nice carry out style tray for easy eating. However, he thought it odd that when he asked for a cover to take the leftovers home they did not have one! Only foil to cover it. The hit for us is always that Baja salsa... such a great flavor and kick. The green stuff though at the salsa bar was dry and had no flavor. Would have loved some fresh cilantro and onion! My taco was very tasty; lots of "stuff" in it and shrimp was cooked nicely. I was not a fan of the Baja bowl, though. Way too heavy on the saucy black beans, for me; they really took over the entree. I would have liked more veggies. The piece of blackened fish was thin and therefore very dry and burnt tasting. Tried the new steak bowl at Downey Promenade...The portion was extremely small and OVERPRICED. $19.50 for a tiny bowl plus they charged an extra $1.50 for brown rice. This is a "one and done " for me. Everyone, avoid and save your money. In addition, service was poor; lady taking my order looked angry, as if she was working for free. Back in the early 2000's I lived near a Baja Fresh and ate there often. Over the years they have slowly vanished with only a few still existing here and there. A friend suggested we should meet for a late lunch at this one. It was like walking into my past, the interior looked exactly like I remembered the one I frequented long ago. This one was exceptionally clean and the woman at the counter was welcoming with a sweet smile. I ordered carnitas quesadillas and a fountain drink. She handed me a bag of chips to crunch on while I waited for my food. The salsa bar was immaculate and well stocked with excellent choices. Five minutes later I received my food at the counter. The cheesy quesadillas came with some sour cream and guacamole. The pork was rather sparse; I mostly tasted cheese. There were four quesadillas and by the time I got to number four I had honestly gotten a bit bored with them even though they were good. I'd probably order something else if I were to return. This was my first time having Baja Fresh reminds me of you know your typical quick eatery spot. The space is very clean, plenty of seating, and plenty of parking outside. Great Plaza. Staff was really nice, very welcoming. I asked for their opinion, they were happy to give it. She says their chicken is top choice but I was in the mood for something non-chicken because I eat chicken all the time so I asked her about the steak and shrimp. She recommended the shrimp, she explained the shrimps are on the smaller side but they give you about 12. That's not a bad deal because that's 12 bites. Their salsa bar is self serve, it has six selections which is more than most. There was 2 hot versions, 2 medium, 2 milds green and a mango salsa. Which I tasted and it was really good so I got 3 cups of that to go. Food came out pretty quickly only waited about like four or five minutes. 7/17/24 Just like Kim R--had a gift card I was saving for years that I wanted to redeem, Hubby & I were on our way down south into the OC It was just me and the chickens (okay not literally, but 1 customer) when I stopped by on a Wednesday at 3 pm. I ordered a shrimp Baja Ultimo Burrito . The young lady at the cashier was friendly. I made my way to the salsa bar & picked 4 containers of the sauces. Within a few minutes my burrito was ready. Stopped by the Baja Fresh in Seal Beach for a quick bite and ordered the SF Crispy Wahoo Taco ($5.49). The service was friendly and the place was clean, but the food itself was just... okay. The taco was decent but nothing memorable--good enough for a quick meal, but the flavor didn't really stand out the way I was hoping. For almost six bucks before tax, I expected something a little fresher or more substantial. Overall, it's a convenient spot if you're in the area and want something fast, but it's pretty average compared to other Baja Fresh locations I've been to. First time to this Baja Fresh. I had numerous modifications and they got each one of them correct, which included easy cheese on the enchiladas and no oil on the tortillas for the chicken tacos. I miss the old Baja fresh in Torrance. I was surprised to find this one while in the area for a basketball tournament. This place does a decent job and tastes a lot like I remember. The old one in Torrance had started cutting costs after they changed owners but this one tasted like how it used to be. The baja salsa was good and the pico de gallo was solid. The service here is really bad i paid $11.89 plus a dollar for sour cream for one burrito A BEAN AND CHEESE BURRITO mind you. and they gave it to me, first of all the woman who took my order (Catalina R.) gave terrible attitude and customer service. no smile and it seemed as if she was doing US a service by even taking the time to take our order and she's been here every single time we've come and they weren't very kind when i got my burrito and the beans and the tortilla were cold and the cheese wasn't melted, not what i expected for TWELVE DOLLARS. I went to Baja Fresh last night and had the worst experience. The costumer service was horrible. The girl who took our order had the worst attitude and was so rude. She constantly looked me up and down but wouldn't look at me when I talked to her. Catalina R. treated me with so much disrespect. Also the food was flavorless and I have never tasted such disgusting food. Also the salsa bar was very dirty and there was salsa everywhere. Additionally, I told her that something was missing from the order and she tried to start an argument with me. She clearly wasn't trained right because what happened to the phrase "The costumer is always right." I even woke up with food poisoning this morning. I advise people to never go here. When I went Baja Fresh, I was greeted by a bright and sunny smile from the cashier. She was happy to be there and she was very friendly and helpful. It was only her and the cook working there, but the service was impeccable. I had the shrimp deluxe burrito and it was incredible. I really liked all of their mild and medium salsas. My food arrived quickly and it was delicious. It was probably one of the best burritos I've had. The restaurant is very clean and well lit. Instead, when I got home and went to eat it, I discovered I received a potato burrito with peppers and other unidentifiable ingredients. Called in an order... The girl on the phone (her name sounds like Esamir) hung up the phone (not by accident)....... The manager Adolfo took the order when we called back. Clearly that was our mistake. The same person handed me the food... I get that we all have bad days sometimes but maybe that's not the best day to be at the phone and register and maybe her manager should have replaced her at least temporary to give her a break. She was rushed (I was the only customer in the store) made no eye contact, practically threw change at me and the picture shows all the onions that were on the bowl that was supposed to have no onions. I've been to this Seal Beach location several times and it is always very consistent and staff is always super friendly. Our food is always fresh and fast. This was the only food I ate today, about 30 minutes after eating I felt like something wasn't right. A few more hours later I'm dealing with all the symptoms that come along with food poisoning. I won't get into specifics but let's just say it's pretty brutal. It would seemed that Baja "Fresh" is not so fresh anymore. Salsa bar looked messy and unattended. The signature salsa Baja had too many bits of diced tomato. It looks like they switched to a smaller dice size than previous, so now there many more pieces of unfresh tomatoes in everything. Chicken tacos were okay, the lime that accompanied them was way passed spoiled. Tortilla soup had a strange aftertaste which I can't put my finger on. As I sit here and write this they are mopping the door with a nasty chemical which smells like chlorine, so gotta go. read more

I wish their more Baja Fresh locations closer to me. But unfortunately that's not the case for me. It's either the location in Monrovia or this one here in Seal Beach. But my reason for leaving this review Is when you travel from Whittier to Seal Beach making that 30 minute commute craving your favorite salad and knowing what your taste buds are expecting. But nothing is worse than when you order your favorite salad only to be disappointed when you learn they switched up their classic awesome vinaigrette salad dressing to some cheap sweet Italian dressing in a gallon jug that tastes like that awful Wish Bone Italian dressing Then when I question it and say this is not the same dressing the guy tells me they changed it some time ago. I was like WTH!! I came here specifically for this salad because it's the dressing that makes it taste so good. Then he proceeded to tell me the reason for the change. I don't agree with the reason! If I'm willing to spend almost $15 for a salad on top of my time and gas. It's just goes to show what I like and have no problem paying for it ... PROVIDED I'm getting what's expected. Corners shouldn't be cut to save a few bucks on salad dressing. With that being said.. looks like I only have 1 location to visit that's not going to cut corners to save a few bucks. read more
