The view is spectacular...the OWNER is rude and condescending...could care less if he has a party of 20 people or not. Apparently the Baja Restaurant in Sandbridge doesn't need my business...the GM was very nice in arranging my 25 people birthday party a few weeks ago. There would be a band playing at 8, bartenders outside, my guests could come for an hour, then those who wanted to could sit down for dinner. It was o.k. that I wasn't sure exactly how many, a few more than 20 or a few less was no big deal. We would all be in the same section, although not at one table. PERFECT! Then today the owner called me...insisted that he spoke to my son (don't have one) & me...that I told him I was looking at other places for my "reception". This was completely incorrect! So, he proceeded... there is no band, never was one, outside is closed, no bartenders, we can have exactly 20 seats, not promised in same section, we need to be done in no more than 2 hours and if I wanted to have a party I should have rented a private area. Totally condescending and wanted to make sure that I was "informed of how it would be" so there were "no issues" later with my guests. He completely talked over me and was still doing so when I said "cancel it!" That's at least $1500 in revenue...wow! Won't go again! read more

I ate here twice during vacation and both times were better than I expected based on the reviews here. I had the fish tacos with a summer salad yesterday and both were very good. I like to eat healthy, even on vacation and this place definitely fit the bill. Earlier I had the chicken wrap and the chicken was delicious and it came with a good dressing that also was nice and light and very tasty. I would give 0 stars if I could. Terrible!!!! Waaay overpriced for garbage. The draft cooler was broken so no draft beers. There were flies and the decor is partially cafeteria style. The carpets need to be vacuumed. The food was the worst part though, Ugh. I got the seafood pasta. It was supposed to have shrimp, scallops, and crab. It had only shrimp and was blaaand. The server said oh yeah, we're out of scallops. I didn't even eat it all. And it was $20!! The burger was so so. The tuna tartar was sketchy, I wasn't even sure if it was tuna. Weird little niche market, but worth the experience. It is a strange lot on the extreme south side of Virginia Beach (but on the swamp side, not the beach side). It is supposed to be a local specialty. The food was good. Great creations, but the spaghetti noddles were more like Chinese egg noddles. It opens at dinner time, and fills up quick. Service was pleasant. However, what the menu says, what the internet menu says, and what they actually serve is kind of a crapshoot. You are on vacation in Sandbridge and need to have grandma watch the kiddos and head out for some relaxing fun, don't drive in to VA beach! Don't drive at all. Just walk south to the end of the beach and you will find your oasis. The food is average but you can play horseshoes and drink. That chick you saw walk by on the beach earlier this afternoon most likely is there. They have Lager on tap. You can boat to them from the trailer park as well. If they had a sixth star I would keep it at five. read more

My favorite place in VB! Super staff that feels welcoming as soon as you walk in the door! Burgers and brews night is amazing with wonderful food and great price drinks! During the summer, the back has the Bayview (open air bar) and you can usually find a band playing. The backyard has a view like none other- make sure you stop by for a sunset toast! read more

I took the family here last night. Below average. Very very loud. I don't know why but everyone talks really loud. I had the baja fish tacos. The sauce is yogurt with red cayenne pepper, lime juice. Average. Service was with a smile and attentive but server did disappear after she took our order. We had drinks at the bar before sitting down. The bartender was nice, made us margaritas in plastic cafeteria glasses. If we were right by the water this would be protocol but the drink deserves a glass. read more

Good choice of drinks; about 6 beers on tap - mostly local brews. Food in restaurant area (with A/c) was good, but the dining room was a little noisy. Thank you for the kids menu and crayons. Service in dining room was a little slow and inattentive but not terrible. Bar area had better service. Corn hole outside and view of bay... but again, remember your bug spray. Great food great service. Great portion sizes. The only negative part of the meal were the flies continuing to buzz around our heads. Try the age crab soup as long as you don't get carried away. Wasn't sure about taking the family here based on previous reviews. But pleasantly surprised. We had a group of 10 adults and 3 children and we were greeted and seated promptly. We were surprised by the cheery beach themed interior. Comfortable and spacious seating for us all. Food was served to all of us together and the kids especially enjoyed the cheese pizza. The best thing about this place is the Back Bay beer and the bartender. The She Crab soup was luke warm at best. The fried oysters were so salty I am still craving water an hour later. The Key Lime pie was so far from being Key Lime pie it's sad. In fact, it was the worst KL pie I've ever had in my life. Other than the crust, the whipped cream and garnish there should only be 4 ingredients: key lime juice, key lime zest, sweetened/condensed milk and egg yolks. That's it, it's so simple and should be delicious ... I seriously doubt there was a drop of authentic key lime juice in it. I'm very disappointed as I've heard good things about than place. So Me and My husband decided to take trip to VA in RV and stayed in North Bay Shore Campground by the way Staff is Excellent! We didn't want to take RV to beach and was told go beach Sandbridge area and eat at Baja Restaurant so we decided take Lyff. We went to beach enjoyed the weather and walked across too restaurant eat while trying wait on Lyff which it kept saying longer wait time. I think we made mark at Baja Restaurant as I think we we're probably 1st African Americans too eat there ‍. We got our meal and was still trying get Lyff back campsite so as we we're eating I asked waitress about another car service to use get back campsite and explained Lyff was still searching and by way don't remember her name but she was very pleasant that's why I gave 2 stars, she must of told owner I believe Because as we finish eating and Paid for our food which was $76 not cheap he came over too table and said are you still waiting on Lyff and I explained our situation and he asked and assuming "Did your car break down?" ‍My husband replied No we have RV didn't want Pressure of looking for parking at beach so we caught Lyff he then said try cab company but quote "I have other people waiting for table so if your finish eating we need your table" Didn't over us another area sit considering we just spent $76 and because he has bar I'm quite sure he knows drivers that will pick up his drunk customers and By way restaurant was not that busy as they we're sitting people inside and out not giving us option to where we wanted to sit. The Bloody Mary, which they claim to be the best ever, was watered down and flavorless. I returned it to get a mimosa and was still charged for it. Just visited Baja last week. Twice in fact. This could have possibly been a 4 or 5 star review if the "chef" hadn't refused to prepare a simple dish for my 6-year-old son on our second visit. My son, again only six, absolutely loves alfredo pasta with bacon. The waiter said they couldn't serve alfredo with the kids pasta. I said fine, give him the adult plate and please add bacon. To my surprise, the waiter came back and said the chef would not add bacon to the pasta. I said, charge whatever you want, but please add bacon to the dish because he's six and that's what he likes. The waiter again said the chef refused to do it. Refused. I could tell the waiter was nervous, because he couldn't provide what we wanted. Totally not his fault. But, c'mon man. I said, can you add bacon to a burger? Yes. But not to pasta. No. Hmmm... Can I order bacon on the side with the pasta? No. Can I order bacon on the side with a burger? Yes. So that's what we had to do. A ten-minute run around to simply add some bacon to my son's pasta. Way to cater to families with young children, angry chef at Baja. We spent well over $400 at your place in two days, yet you can't accommodate a young kid's request? Looks like we'll skip Baja on our next trip. You might consider doing so as well if your kids have taste buds that overstep the paltry kids menu. read more

So my sister and her new hubby got married here on Saturday, and everything was perfect. It poured rain in typical Virginia fashion, so of course they had to move the event inside (from the beach) at the last minute, and Jimmy accommodated them happily. The atmosphere was gorgeous, even with the rain. Don't drive by and misjudge the modest exterior without going inside! The staff was amazing, attentive, funny...just great. They did a buffet style meal off the menu...first appetizers, followed by the entrees...the timing was ideal. We had an open bar, and the bartenders definitely did their job *cough cough* with a smile on their faces. Yes, Fireball is my favorite ;) Since the fam is still in town and staying across the street, we returned for dinner the next night as well, and our party of 9 was seated right away. Again, the service was stellar, but obviously we ordered off the normal dinner menu. I cannot remember the name of the chicken dish I ordered (maybe Lulu's??), but it was a breast wrapped in crispy prosciutto, topped with sautéed spinach, peppers, and goat cheese, and it was freaking amazing!! Plus it came with perfectly seasoned mixed veggies, and steamed broccoli. I also heard from the other end of the table that the shrimp tacos were the "best ever", as well as rave reviews for the seafood au gratin. My hubbs and my Dad had this...pasta topped with crab, scallops, and shrimp, and their bowls were basically licked clean. They carry a great selection of beer and wine, plus a full bar. The only negative that I can come up with is something that isn't even Baja's fault. The mosquitos were insane. I stopped counting my bites at 102. Oh well...I'd happily get attacked again to return!!! read more

Me and my fiance` went here and it was the worst restaurant experience of my life. The place was practically empty so you would think the service would be speedy, but snails going in slow motion could have served us faster. We waited for 15 minutes just to place a drink order and the waitress asks if we want bread. We take the bread and it's still frozen in the middle. We asked for new bread and showed her it was frozen, she takes it back and comes back a few minutes later with more bread... still frozen. I show her again it's still frozen, when she takes it back we hear the kitchen staff loudly and angrily ask "WHATS WRONG WITH IT NOW!?" and she loudly says "they're just complaining about every little thing!" After another less frozen loaf of bread comes out we just gave up on it and waited for our food. Had we not already placed an order we would have walked at this point. 30 minutes go by and we finally get our food which is very undercooked pasta in a disgusting sauce that tasted like pure grease. When our food comes out a friend of the staff comes in with his pet golden retriever, unleashed, running around the place sniffing tables and trying to get our food. At this point we had enough and walked out. TL;DR: Terrible service, terrible food, terrible hygiene, just plain terrible. DO NOT DINE HERE! read more
