I had a hard time deciding whether to give Bajas one star or two stars. The food actually wasn't bad, but the service was abysmal. The concept of having all toppings be free is great, especially for vegetarians and pescatarians. I went to Bajas for bite to eat at 11pm, and the place wasn't that crowded. I ordered a crispy fish taco (which is ON THEIR MENU), and the chef said that it would take five minutes because they need to make the fish. I said that was fine, I'd be happy to wait. He stared at me, and muttered something under his breath, clearly expressing how unhappy he was that I wanted a fish taco. He then looked over at my boyfriend and blurted "YOU want a fish taco too?" How incredibly rude. That was probably the worst service I have received in a while. It's not like I was making a ridiculous request - I was ordering something on their menu, and it was 3 hours until their closing time! They also refuse to give you water (except for bottled water), which is a little unacceptable to me. Not only is that unenvironmentally friendly and promotes soft-drink consumption, it made me go to the bathroom sink to get water. p.s. the fish in the fish taco was over-fried and the batter was rather tough. that said, I wanted the taste of fried food that night, so it was okay. read more

I F***ING love Tex Mex. that's what i call it.. I've been coming here religiously since they first opened. a lot of late drunked nights have ended here with a fat overly stuffed burrito ending up in my hair ear and lap. but i ain't mad. place is small no doubt about it. especially late at night when everyone is getting out of the bars and got them late night munchies. This place is awesome way better then Chipotle down the street. you ask for a lil extra guacamole they charge you a buck fifty. This reminds me a lot of Chipotle except they also have sandwiches, chicken wings, and other opinions. Basically if you want a taco or burrito and your significant other wants some chicken wings its a win win situation. My friend and I both got the customized burritos. I got their juicy delicious pork that they literally shred in front of you. My friend got the spicy chicken. Both were stuffed full of toppings and meat. They do not leave you unsatisfied with the amount of filling. The build your own burrito is MASSIVE in the best way possible for a burrito. Even if your burrito is jam-packed it doesn't get soggy. I ordered takeout through a 3rd party app and they had the order ready on time in the back towards the register, which was appreciated. The space is small and they are only allowing around 5 customers in the store at once (although I'm not sure how strictly this is enforced) but everyone was wearing masks. What I also like about Bajas is that while you're in line you can watch the cooks make the orders, which is interesting. If you're on Thayer Street, you need to give Bajas a shot! read more

I came across this place on Yelp as we were craving Mexican. Place doesn't look nothing fancy, food was somewhat tasty. However the manager or person in charge of shift and register were not welcoming, standoffish, that was a turn off and they say New Yorkers are grouchy. Ordered delivery through Uber eats. We ordered two "build your own bowls".The app allowed you to pick up to seven toppings and one bowl was missing 3 of the 7 selected toppings. It was also missing the requested salsa (a separate selection in the app). We also ordered chips and guacamole. They only sent two small cups (the size typically used for salad dressing) of guacamole. Not sure if this is an app issue or a restaurant issue, but the other bowl was as ordered. Whenever I'm on Thayer I make it a point to hit up Baja's Burritos. I love customizing my own burrito to my particular taste that moment. They offer plenty of toppings and as the sign says: they're free! I've never had anything bad here & if I did it would be my fault since I'm the one who selected it. They also have a great selection of Mexican sodas. I'm partial the their orange but they're all so good & have no high fructose syrup. I've ordered their chicken fingers for my 4 year old & they're pretty good too. The staff is hit or miss though but I've had more positive experiences than negative. Another drawback is its size. It's pretty cramped inside especially by the ordering area. And sometimes they can be a little skimpy on the toppings especially with the sour cream & guacamole. This is a hot spot for munchies after a night out in Prov, as Thayer is only a quick uber away. How bad do you to feel tomorrow morning with knowing what you ate drunk? You can order the greasy cheesesteak or chicken fingers which will make you regret everything. Order a less unhealthy burrito that still makes you question why. Or the burrito bowl/ salad that you probably didn't need looking back on it. Bajas has enough to fix you up after a night out. They are a taqueria first, and provide a few other greasy favorites second. Their selection for burritos/tacos etc. is larger than Chipotle or any other chain taqueria. The ingredients seem pretty fresh, and they even offer a few unique meats such as buffalo chicken and Cajun shrimp. The prices are about $8 for a burrito, so it's not too cheap. Service if gruff, but I guess the employees get sick of drunk fools and zooters after a certain point. The actual restaurant has the width of an alleyway, so when it's busy things can be a bit tight. Parties of more than 4 may find it difficult to sit together Despite a few other options on Thayer for quick food (Mikes Calzones, Yelp's favorite East Side Pockets), I still find myself coming back here.
