Dessert in Honolulu, Hawaii... I was first introduced to Bake N Break at the Progressive Dinner at McCully Shopping Center. We visited five different small businesses for appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The last stop was on the upper level at The Test Kitchen. We were told that Bake N Break got its name because Bronson is a break dancer! Cool, huh? Anyway - Bronson is a very pleasant and friendly business owner. He described each dessert with great detail. At The Progressive Dinner, we had a special Lemon Cupcake which was a replica of the type of cake he can create for a special occasion. Wow! Fancy! The Special Lemon Cupcake was beautifully layered and tasty - with little crunchy pieces of bursts of flavor! I wanted to go back and try other items! This evening, Peter, Paul, and I had a chance to try different things. I had a taste of Paul's Matcha Souffle Cheesecake - it definitely had a matcha essence! I chose the Strawberry cupcake because the frosting is vegan (for those of us who are lactose intolerant) and because it would look great in a photo! It was delicious, soft, moist, and not too sweet! Thanks, Peter! Cony enjoyed the cupcake, too! I was also tempted by the Red Velvet cupcake, but Bronson gave us a sample from a full sized cake he was trimming. Thank you! I think next time, I'll take my lactose pills and have the Chantilly cupcake... and the Oreo one, too!

Follow the leader. While hanging out with friends this past Saturday, I was asked my plans for the night and I replied "Bleach." Someone thought I was going to bleach my hair, which is something I have yet to do and to be frank, I'm game to try it. However, I mentioned my plans to do laundry, which let out good laughs. Test Kitchen (TK) was suggested for dinner and dessert, and I've been wanting to check it out. After sending a text to some friends, I got lured away from house chores to explore new places. As we arrived McCully Shopping Center (MSC), we made our way to the 2F to TK. At that time, Auntie (Nadine C.) gave Peter Y. and me a tour of the 4 vendors occupying TK. One of them is Bake N Break (BNB), a unique name for a business, baking sweet treats, including dairy free, vegan, and NY style bagels. They had their soft opening on 7/15/2022. You see, earlier in the week, Auntie came to MSC for a progressive dinner and in one of the stops was BNB, where Auntie highly spoke of. She introduced me to Bronson, the owner/baker and how the business was named as he's also a break dancer. So cool. I immediately checked out their chiller, which has assorted cupcakes, but my eyes landed on the Japanese soufflé cheesecakes on the bottom shelf as well as the red velvet cupcakes. We needed to eat dinner first, so we came back later. After eating dinner, it was time for dessert, and I got the matcha soufflé cheesecake. Compared to NY style cheesecake, this was not as dense, but I had envisioned a fluffier version. Nonetheless, this was delicious as it had a cheesecake consistency, and the match flavor came through. I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet. I was so pleased with the cheesecake that I ended up getting extra cheesecakes to drop off at my sister's home for them to enjoy. Auntie and Peter let me try their cupcakes (dairy free lemon and dairy free strawberry) and they were also delicious. I was surprised with both dairy free cupcakes as the flavor and texture weren't compromised. To our delight, Bronson was assembling a red velvet cake and he offered us some cake shavings that was yummy. I can see myself ordering red velvet cupcakes or ordering a whole red velvet cake in the future. Overall, a very satisfied first experience at BNB where I will be back. I was impressed with what I sampled and pairing it with Bronson's great customer service and witnessing the passion for his business, BNB is worthy of a repeat visit.

BAKE N BREAK- Previously known as La Bekk. Once again ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Cupcakes were delicious!! Not to sweet and just the right amount of equal parts icing & cake. Definitely a quick dessert after eating a poke bowl in test kitchen. Located in Test Kitchen in McCully- Upstairs. Definitely Follow them on Instagram for updated Hours and Operations. Many favorites to try and I'm sure all taste amazing.. Highly recommend trying out the Chantelly Cupcake & Strawberry. Mahalo Bake N Break for such an amazing experience and service. We definitely will be back to try out the cheesecakes :)

After grabbing some 'ono dinner at Jinya - we decided to make our way to McCully Shopping Center. We heard about this foodie-type of incubator and decided to give it a try. I was definitely craving something sweet and found this dope spot, Bake 'n Break. The gentleman who served us happened to be the owner of the shop and is extremely friendly, especially with his dope, blue hair. You can find the incubator on the top floor of the shopping center, more towards the left. They have plenty of seating inside so you can sit comfortably, in A/C, and enjoy your meal. We decided to try their Ube-Cheesecake Soufflé and it was soooo 'onoooo! I can't wait to make it out here again to try their other pastries and delicious treats. Right before we left - he was preparing a fresh batch of his signature cupcakes. Luckily for us - he let us try his "lemon crack" speciality toppings and it was sooo good. Love it!

This review is based on the fact that I tried contacting this place for the last 4 days and was unable to get in touch with anyone. Their voicemail is full so am unable to leave a message. Also messaged them though IG but no response. Finally I came down to place my order in person but although Yelp and Google both say they should be open, they're not. More frustrated because I have a gift certificate from them to use but can't because they're not open and don't answer phone calls. Would love to try their desserts and change my review but until then, they get 1 star for being elusive and unresponsive.

Totally awesome!! This cozy little bake shop is hidden in the 2nd floor shop in McCully Shopping Center. The doors to the little food court is so unassuming you wouldn't think it' has a handful of restaurants inside those doors. But once inside, this shop is the first block and you can't miss it. Let me tell you this baker is so skilled at this art he will make your cupcake to order. We'll, sort of... the cupcakes are already baked but he decorated fresh to order!! Whaaaat? That's so amazing!! I went on Valentine week so I got to check out these beautiful creation with heart shaped strawberries on a whipped topping on chocolate cupcake. YUM There were Japanese fluffy cheesecakes in variety of flavors I had to try a few. Love that not overly sweet and airy cheesecake that's NOT like the dense & over-sweetened American cheesecake. So good!! You need to find this place and check him out. The friendly break-dancer baker dude will surely satisfy your little sweet cravings.

Looking for a late nite dessert, this would be your go to place, parking is a wee tight as there are many restaurants in the strip mall, but head up to the 2nd floor look for the test kitchen (ewa side) and bakery is right by the door. Owner greets you immediately and very personable. We didn't know what to order so he gave us some info on his baked goods. We ordered the Horchata and Matcha cheesecake it was not as light as other japanese cheesecake but not dense like american kind. What surprised us was it wasn't sweet and enjoyed it. Ask for whipped cream topping (owner whips up his own cream so not sweet). We also took home some cupcakes Lemon, Strawberry, Chocolate, we watched as he prepared each cupcake individually. The frosting a wee bit dense for us, but cupcake was just right not too light and not to dense. Flavors were difinitely great. There is seating and atmosphere is definitely food court, but at least they have seating for patrons.

    Assorted desserts. Yum

This place is located at the test kitchen 2nd floor of the mccully shopping center. Formally they were at Ohana marketplace La bekk. Now they are known as Bake and Break. The owner Bronson does the baking, cashering, and packing. He says later on he'll hire 1 more person but for now its just him. Now getting to the bake goods we ordered chocolate ganache cupcake, strawberry cupcake, chantilly cupcake, and horchata cheesecake. All of them was very very good. The cheesecake was light and not heavy also were the cupcakes. Very good in tasted and flavor. We will be back again. Good to see you again Bronson.

Conveniently located in a test kitchen in McCully shopping center, this place offers cupcakes and Japanese style cheesecakes. Not a huge selection of flavors but some good varieties and diary free options. Cupcakes: a bit too sweet for my liking. The chocolate flavor has very dense frosting, more like a garnache. The fruit flavors are lighter if you're looking for something refreshing. Japanese style cheesecake: pretty dense and very well flavored. Hojicha has a unique, nutty flavor profile. Matcha is what you'd expect. They also have vanilla and ube. NOT sweet - love that. You can eat a whole slice without overwhelming your palate. I don't think these cheesecakes are made by this store though, they get it from elsewhere. Worth going back for the cheesecakes.

I checked out this bakery the other day located in the Aloha Test Kitchen on the 2nd floor of McCully shopping center. I ordered one of the chantilly chocolate cupcakes! Also ordered a few of the Everything bagels to go. Everything is made fresh that day. Both was very delish! The cupcake wasn't too sweet and the chantilly frosting was pretty yum! I do want to try their Japanese souffle cheesecake sometime! If you're in the area, go check it out!

KING Puff Collab with Ali'i Coffee Great flavor Good texture And just the right balance of sweetness. Light enough to not leave you full but enough to satisfy you. Always happy to try different treats from this place!

Bake N Break is located on the second floor of McCully shopping center in the test kitchen where there are other vendors as well. They specializes in cupcakes, wedding cakes, elairs, puffs, and japanese soufflé cheesecake. You can catch Bronson, the owner, in action making his desserts. He makes them all on his own except for the cheesecakes, which he outsources from one of his good friends. As far as the taste, I've tried every flavor of cheesecake - original, ube, match, and hojicha. All were super light and tasty and the flavors of each definitely came thru. I've also tried his strawberry shortcake cupcake, which was nice and sweet and a bit of tartness from the strawberry. My kids tried the red velvet and the lemon cupcake, which they absolutely loved. Excited to try his other items. Bronson offers stamp cards as well. For every $40 you spend you get a stamp. Once you fill the card with 9 stamp, you can redeem it for a free 6" cake ($40 value)

The frosting is reminiscent of the Red Ribbon mango cake frosting when it used to taste good, back in the days when Red Ribbon used to make their cakes with fresh mangoes instead of the canned or frozen mangoes they use now. I conducted a taste test between the fresh and day-old mango lilikoi cupcake and I didn't notice much of a difference. The fresh cupcake was a little more moist, but I actually preferred the day-old cupcake because I couldn't taste the oil as much. Plus, the day-old cupcake is 50% off. And let me tell you, the fresh cupcakes are not cheap! It was almost $5 per cupcake with tax. The cashier was very friendly. I forgot her name, but she wears blue contact lenses. We talked story for a little bit and she told me that Sugarlina used to be located somewhere else. She also told me that they use local eggs fresh from the egg farm in Wahiawa. Fresh, locally sourced products sure make a difference! I definitely recommend the mango lilikoi cupcake fresh or day-old despite the expensive price tag.

Initially, the door was locked, but the owner Tara unlocked the door and asked if I was picking up an order. I said no, we were just looking around and wanted to see what cupcakes they had. Tara was super friendly and even though she was busy filling orders, she took the time to tell me what cupcakes she had available. I was initially going to get 4 cupcakes: 1 lemon, 2 strawberry, and 1 red velvet. However, after looking at her menu online and talking to her, I ended up getting a dozen cupcakes: 4 banana peanut butter cupcakes with honey drizzle, 3 Chocolate cupcake with Oreo frosting topped with an Oreo cookie, 1 chocolate cupcake with a peanut butter frosting, 2 Strawberry cupcake with buttercream frosting and strawberry drizzle, 1 red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting, and 1 white cupcake with lemon buttercream and lemon sauce drizzle. The cupcakes were super moist and they paired well with the frostings. The frostings were not overly sweet, which I really appreciated, and I could definitely taste the flavoring of the frosting. The peanut butter was my favorite and it paired well with the chocolate cupcake. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other flavors, or will request a specialty cupcake in the near future.
