Their chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing on top is incredible. I brought mine home and heated it up for a little bit. Game changer. Their cupcakes are also not too sweet (which is the ultimate compliment). Also, run for their savory biscuits. They are amazing and sell out all the time. read more

As a hobby baker and lover of baker goods, I was excited to try cupcakes when visiting DC. The question was- do I go for the original Sprinkles cupcakes? Or, do I go to the Georgetown Cupcakes from the famous TLC show? Or, do I go where the locals go? I chose the latter and B&W didn't disappoint. On a Sunday morning, there was no line and all of the options. Each cupcake is $4 so I recommend you get two- one for now, one for later. You do not need to do more. I struggled to eat one by myself because they are very dense. The flavor profiles are fantastic because they have the classics like Red Velvet and carrot, unique like their lemon and raspberry, and seasonal like pumpkin. I chose their lemon raspberry and the sponge was a moderate lemon flavor but it had a tiny bit of raspberry jam in the middle. I would not call that a filling! The pumpkin was moist but I got that baking soda aftertaste and it wasn't super pleasant. I did love their cream cheese frosting because it wasn't a ton like other places do and it wasn't super sweet. Each cupcake feels like it weighs half a pound so the lemon tasted like a pound cake. In retrospect, I would have just chose one and tried their savory biscuits. My brother and husband enjoyed their red velvet. One of them got the double chocolate and he said it was just okay. The carrot cupcake wasn't very moist. If you like dense cupcakes, then check them out! I would prefer lighter sponges that are moist, but maybe they go heavy since you are paying so much for each. read more

When traveling, our family of 4 loves to find a local bakery and Baked & Wired kept coming up in searches. We popped in about 3 pm on a Monday in April and there was no line. We got 4 cupcakes (German Chocolate, razmanian devil, dirty chai, and chocolate doom) and a ginger lemon cookie. The cupcakes were so good--I love normal icing instead of thick fluffy icing. The cake flavors and textures were great, too. And maybe it's because we were tired and hungry, but we ate the cookie right away and it was AMAZING. I love ginger and lemon anyway but it was the best cookie. Trying to get my fam to go back before we leave. read more

I was in Georgetown and of course, I had to stop by to get some cupcakes. I got two flavors: the German chocolate and the tessita. German chocolate is my fav kinda cake/cupcake so I had to get that one to compare to the ones I've had before. Well, this one was the best I've ever had! The cake was moist, not overly sweet or buttery, and the coconut and pecan topping was delicious! The tessita was also good but I wish it had more dolce de leche inside. The dough was a bit more dense than the chocolate one too. Next time in DC, I'll definitely go there to get the German chocolate again! read more

This is a staple of Georgetown. There are two sections- one for coffee and other for cupcakes. The iced latte with low fat milk was delicious, creamy, and not watered down. We had the strawberry, uniporn(vanilla), and a lemon-flavored surfette cupcakes. They were a bit too sweet for me. But, I think other cupcake Aficionados would enjoy them. The latte helped lessen the sugary impact of the cupcakes. In addition, the service was quick. The ambiance is casual with a nice local coffee shop feel. read more

TLDR: this bakery deserves all the hype that it receives! Came here during a spontaneous trip to DC and wanted some good cupcakes! We saw that the line was long and we knew that it was gonna be something worth waiting for. I ordered the pistachio and strawberry cupcakes as well as a bee sting. I should've ordered more these one bee sting! It was shortbread with honey and almonds. I could probably eat 15 in a sitting if I allowed myself. The cupcakes were great. They were moist, flavorful, and I prefer their frosting to cupcake ratio more than other cupcake places. I loved how buttery and flavorful the frosting was. I typically don't eat frosting, but I felt compelled to eat it all. I can't wait to go back to try another exciting flavor. read more

Still not good. I tried Baked & Wired, and reviewed it some time ago. Of course, as an appreciator of a great sweet treat- I wanted to give this spot another chance because I was so shocked how much I was let down. Service was very friendly and nice, and the shop is cute. I purchased 4 cupcakes (a bold decision based on my last experience). We bought coconut, carrot cake, yellow cake/choc frosting, and raspberry lemon. The coconut cupcake was moist, but the flavor was dissatisfactory. The yellow cake/chocolate frosting was not good. The flavor was weird, unimpactful, and the cake was dry. I have tasted a better flavor profile from a grocery store cake. I didn't try the other 2 flavors I bought because truthfully I am avoiding disappointment. I think it is unfair for an establishment to, in good conscience, charge customers $6 for a single disappointing cupcake. I would not recommend this establishment for baked goods. read more

I was very excited to try this place because the reviews say that it's better than Georgetown cupcake. We took an Uber to Georgetown basically just to come here because I'm a dessert junkie. The shop is cute and it happened to be their 20 year anniversary so props and congrats to them! We came maybe a little after 11am on a weekday and there was a small line. I had decided I wanted orange creamsicle and my boyfriend wanted the Elvis one with peanut butter and chocolate. They had run out of both. No biggie, we opted for strawberry, tessita, and carrot cake. Strawberry had delicious though overly sweet frosting and a basic vanilla cake with some berries in it. Tesita had chocolate frosting with vanilla cake with dulce de leche filling. My favorite was probably the carrot cake (can't mess that up) but all of them had overly sweet frosting and WAY too high of a cake to frosting ratio. The cake is also extremely dense. I could barely eat lunch after having one, and I really prefer fluffy light cakes. A lot of this was personal preference, but I left disappointed. Georgetown cupcake isn't perfect either, but had I known these would not be standard fluffy small cupcakes and would ruin my appetite I would have just gone there. They also don't charge over $4 for a cupcake... read more

Absolutely delicious! I had the Oh My God s'mores square and would definitely have it again. To-go I got the carrot cake, German chocolate, red velvet and the chocolate on bottom with vanilla top cupcakes. Out of the 4 the German chocolate was moist and my favorite. They were all good and there's others I would try next time. The line moved fast and the team behind the counter was really focused on keeping the door closed and the line moving. We ordered coffees and it seems there was confusion with the drinks my friends did not get their teas even though they ordered before me but the staff on the drinks side quickly corrected and made their drinks. We sat inside and enjoyed our goodies. I'll definitely be back! read more

As a first-time visitor, I asked the staff what they recommended since there were many interesting flavors! I went with their bestseller: strawberry. Although the cake was not lacking in pink-ness, I felt that the strawberry was more of an aesthetic than taste. Really, the dominant flavor was sugar, and the cake could have been moister. Don't get me wrong, I still ate it. Will probably give a different bakery a try next time, though. read more

The line for this place is almost always wrapped around so be sure to do order pick up! The flavors will also sell out quick so order pick up is the best bet. The dirty chai cupcake was amazing even if you aren't a chai lover and the pistachio was okay- nothing special. read more

While not a bad place, it isn't for me. Parking here is a challenge. There's limited street parking and paid parking runs $14-16 an hour. So for me, it's an ok place if you live nearby and can walk. The staff are friendly enough but I found the setup awkward. One side takes bakery orders. The other side coffee. Although you can order both from either side, your stuff comes from both sides as well. Finally, the food is good, but not worth the price in my humble opinion. I ended up spending way more than I expected on zucchini walnut bread, a bacon and cheese biscuit, marbled pound cake, and oatmeal. I did have the experience for my trip, but too expensive for me. read more

Great cupcakes! Bigger than Georgetown cupcakes, less frosting than Sprinkles cupcakes, and great overall. I'm a big fan of Sprinkles cupcakes, and I will say that I feel like the two cupcakes are pretty different. The staff was so sweet though. They accidentally gave me two red velvet cupcakes instead of 1 red velvet and 1 tessita, so they just handed me the Tessita for free when I went back in which was very kind of them. The cupcakes themselves are good! Red Velvet (4/5): The red velvet isn't the "best" or most mind-blowing in my opinion. It's a bit dryer than I had thought, and the frosting was a little thicker than how I personally like it, but it wasn't bad. Tessita (5/5): Very yummy and fudgy! The frosting is so fudgy and fluffy! I'm tempted to stop in for a cupcake every time I'm in Georgetown (and often do!). I prefer their cupcakes to others in the area any day-- they're bigger and have more well-rounded flavor. Not to mention the cake is always perfectly moist *chef's kiss*. I particularly love the dirty chai. The spice plus that espresso buttercream is AMAZING. I will say their icing is a tad sweet for my taste, but I enjoy it anyway (it's not like it would be less sweet anywhere else). There's usually a bit of a wait, but it goes fairly quickly. If you're lucky, the line starts inside the store rather than outside! Seating is fairly limited, but it's possible to grab a seat if you avoid peak hours. read more

My first experience here was really nice! Ambiance: (4/5) I liked the music and how the coffee area is separated from the food area. It was a bit cramped, but that is fairly normal for this area. Lastly, I liked the music selection. Price: (4/5) Average for the area. Food: (4/5) I really liked the caramel latte I got. The latte are was nice as well. I tried my friends hot chocolate and it was amazing. I usually feel hot chocolates are too sweet or too chocolate-y but this was the perfect balance. I wanted to try their biscuits but they were sold out. Service: (5/5) Drinks come out really fast even if the lines are long. In conclusion, I want to come back here and recommend it if you are in the Georgetown area. read more

This bake shop definitely lives up to its name. When I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and the line was literally our the door. However the line moved rather quickly. Once inside there were so many options to choose from. I decided on red velvet cupcake and it was outstanding. Not too sweet and perfectly moist. There were lots of places to sit and and hang out with friends. There's also a shop on the side where you can purchase coffee and drinks. I would make that line again anytime for that cupcake. I definitely recommend this shop. read more

Had some coffee with some pumpkin milk in it. I'm hella basic so that was hella bueno. The line was long, moved pretty quickly. There was a man playing music out front so that helped. We had a pumpkin cupcake to go with the coffee and it was a great way to wash down the coffee. We sat in the back and had it all to ourselves despite there still being a long line on the way out. The back was cozy and a good place to work on the rest of our sugar-based DC itinerary. read more

Baked & wired has a lot of hype, so I thought I'd check it out while I was in Georgetown this weekend. Despite having a large line out front, the wait really wasn't that bad. Someone came and took our order outside, so we just had to wait to pick the box of cupcakes up by the cash register when we paid. I went ahead and waited in line, expecting good things based on what I've heard and read online... and let me just say that this bakery does NOT disappoint. The cupcakes were incredible! I loved that they still had so many choices at 3:00 pm, given that they close around 4:00 or so. I was even more happy to order the pumpkin cupcake .. which was heavenly to say the least. It was a pumpkin cupcake with a vanilla buttercream. I also loved the razmanian devil, which was a lemon cupcake, with lemon buttercream, and a raspberry jam filling inside. The cupcakes / dessert options are numerous. I made sure to sample several cupcakes and I will definitely be coming back again for more. They are extremely fair priced (about $4-5 per dessert), which makes this an affordable option for a light snack or after brunch dessert. If anyone is wondering, the cupcakes are definitely worth the trek to Georgetown! read more

Came here this weekend and had to wait in line for about 10-15 minutes, which isn't too bad considering how popular this is! We got the Tessita, an Oreo cupcake, and the strawberry one. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with the cupcakes. Overall, I'd say a 7-7.5/10 (definitely have heard positive things about the other pastries though, especially the scones). I did like the size of the cupcakes and the Oreo one really stood out to me. It was a spongy cake that wasn't overly sweet and I liked how you could really taste the cookies - order this one! The strawberry one wasn't it for me, it tasted artificial and I was surprised that it's the most popular one. I'd maybe come back to try the other pastries since I wasn't the biggest fan of the cupcakes. The service was OK and the actual space itself was quite nice. read more

Visited this place during my trip to DC and it was honestly pretty good. The cupcakes tasted fresh and they were perfectly made. They had a ton of different options for cupcakes as well as coffees and teas. I got the Funfetti cupcake and it was probably one of the best cupcakes I've ever had. The service was good, everyone was sweet and helpful when guiding me through recommendations. The only reason I knocked one star is because of the ambiance / location. The inside of the shop did not seem well kept and it had this kind of murky feel, almost hippie like, maybe thats the vibe. Honestly, not my favorite place to hang out but the cupcakes DEFINITELY make up for it and I would 100% go again when visiting DC. read more

Any cupcake lover that has taken the time to seek out delicious treats in the DC area knows of Baked & Wired! It's located in Georgetown, just steps away from many other options to satisfy my sweet cravings, yet I somehow find myself here majority of the time. My first stop at this District staple for the new year did not disappoint! I finally tried the bestselling strawberry cupcake and also ordered a carrot cupcake. The texture of the cupcakes were consistently moist without breaking apart nor completely dissolving in your mouth after taking a bite, and that way I was able to taste all the flavors in every bite. I'm usually not an icing girl, but always find myself loving the icing consistency as well--soft enough to remain creamy but it still holds its integrity on the top of the cake. They were delicious and I pretty much wolfed them down within a few minutes of getting them. Baked & Wired also has a selection of other treats, but their cupcakes that are always made from scratch with fresh ingredients is definitely what they are known for. The shop is super cute with its desserts and coffee. They're limiting the number of people inside but it goes rather quick. I got the dirty chai cupcake. I would say it's moderately moist, not cakey. The best parts of this cupcake is that they nailed the flavor. The chai comes across and so does the espresso; and paired very well. Where I deducted the star was the overall sweetness and this might just be a personal preference. While I appreciate them avoiding the mountain of sugar frosting, I still thought the frosting was too sweet here. If it was subtly sweeter, I'd stop here for sweets all day. read more

I was super skeptical coming into this place, especially with Georgetown Cupcake taking all the fame from this place. I stopped in baked and wired on rainy weekday afternoon. There were lots of door dashers coming in and out to pick up orders but the staff was efficient. When it was my turn to place my order I wasn't sure what to get. There were so many options and they were displayed so beautifully. I wound up selecting a cupcake that was vanilla with a chocolate filling and hazelnut on top. Tessa or tessita? Something like that. The staff then beautifully packaged it up (I should've gotten more) and I placed a coffee order to go. $11 total for my cup cake and vanilla latte. The cupcake was AMAZING. So many flavors and it was very rich. It was delicious and felt a lot more substantial compared to your average cupcake. But not overwhelming. Just good. A great treat! The latte with oat milk (yay milk alternatives!) was also delicious and a perfect pair. Shoutout to the hard working staff on the cupcake and coffee side of the shop. Everyone was kind, fast, and wore gloves (oddly even in a pandemic lots of bakery and coffee shop staff have not been). Can't wait to stop by this Georgetown shop again soon! read more

My favorite cupcake shop in DC! The German chocolate is a must have when you come here. I love that the bread is always very moist and the frosting has so much flavor. The space Is very cool and has indoor seating and I especially like the walls where you can put stuff up! They are quick, and the line usually stretches out the door but they move quickly. I've gotten some of their other baked goods as well, and those have been great but the cupcakes are definitely my go to read more

Great food and great coffee are always in store here! Their service is always quick and they are always friendly. They also have upbeat music playing that gets you in the mood to take on the day! Baked & Wired is a nice place in Georgetown. It has coffee and sweets on two sides. The cupcakes are their specialty. It has many different flavors. They have some made ahead or you can get custom orders. Coffee is pretty good. It has the basic items. The latte is good with almond milk. It's $3.85 for a regular cup. The best things here though are sweet treats. Cupcakes are why they're known. These have a good value. It's about $5 for each. They even have one that's vegan. Ask for the cookies and cream. This tastes like the real thing. Cupcakes here are so big. They're almost like a meal. It doesn't have much room to hang out inside. Some tables outside. I see some poor reviews of this spot, but I'm confused on that because I've been going to this shop since I started at GW back in 2015. I finally went back since 2019 and I'm so happy to see it hasn't changed. See my ratings: Ambiance: 5/5 - This is a great spot to come and work. The decor is always inviting and interesting. I would come here early though as it does get packed very quickly. Price: 4/5 - Price is very standard for it being in Georgetown Food: 5/5 - The cupcakes and drinks here are all top notch. I love the hot chocolate (pictured) and the chai cupcake. Those are my go tos here, but I love their caramel lattes as well. Highly recommend! Service: 5/5 - The staff here are always friendly, helpful and patient when making orders here. I have never had any issues when I've come to this shop. read more

Baker and co-ownder with her husband, Tony. Teresa grew up in Ohio and was one of 6 children. She has always loved baking and spent many afternoons at her grandmothers. She has taken this passion and many of her grandmothers recipes to the heart of Baked & Wired. It has been their goal to provide a comfortable place for the neighborhood to go and escape for a while to enjoy a good cup of coffee and a bite of a memory.

I basically became the human version of Remy from ratatouille inhaling a delicious bouillabaisse simmering on the stove top for hours....seeing colors and flavors so bright and intoxicating I simply had to have it I walked in and my eyes were instantly attracted to so many delicious options from classics like Palmiers and Napoleons to some unique flavor combos I've never tried before combined like raspberry and pistachio. Of course, I decided to grab a little bit of everything to make an accurate assessment as a YELP Elite should!! My favorite hands-down was the Berry Millefuille. The way the pastry crumbled in my mouth with every bite, combined with the tart, fresh raspberries, and thick flavorful custard.... Was worth every penny. Honorable mentions go to the peach rosemary tart, which was so unique with the added botanical of rosemary with some fresh sweet peach slices on top and a very crunchy tart base. Without a doubt, this is only the first of the many times I will visit the establishment. It was so authentic, so delicious and passed all the vibe checks even from the French side of the family. One thing to watch out for: some of the tables wobble. I discovered this the hard way when I accidentally spilled my wife's coffee just trying to sit down. Apparently, the table wanted to participate in breakfast too. The staff was friendly, and with so many options to choose from, there's definitely something for everyone. Recently I sent the following e-mail to the Metro29 management and will never go back there again after 5 years of eating there. I was having a quiet political discussion at my table with 2 friends . We were making fun of some of our politicians and others. The next day I was shown a fake e-mail complainiiing about the content of our conversation the day before. My reply to the management of the Metro29 Diner is below. To the Metro 29 Diner Restaurant Management Mr, Kofi, Peter Bota, et al... 4711 Lee Highway, Arlington, Virginia 703.528.2464 Recently, your Manager, Mr. Kofi, treated me to a rare piece of libel and slander. I was shown a printed copy of an E -mail, allegedly written by another patron to the Diner, accusing me of being a homophobic, a racist and anti-feminist. The sender's name and return address was hidden by dark streaks but the "nick name" was "wuhoo". Since I was not provided with a copy I turned the content and the name over to my "legal beagle". At considerable expense he found out the identity of my accuser and recommended that I provide my E-Mail address to Mr. Kofi and invite my accuser to contact me directly. If he does we will proceed with slander and libel charges against him. I was advised to leave the Diner out of this idiotic affair even though Mr. Kofi, as a legal agent of the Metro 29 Diner, unwittingly involved himself in a possible civil suit. Whether he acted on his own or was advised by others to act, he has acted rather unwisely, obviously without competent legal advice.I have not discussed this with any of the Principals of the parent company and I do not intend to do so. We will let this matter lie unless we get another, similar, communication, presented by your legally ignorant manager, or any other agent of the Metro 29 Diner. A lot of mornings now I eat my breakfast at the Georgetown Grill, 1310 Wisconsin Ave, where almost everyone is discussing the mother's milk of Washington: politics. Opinions are heard from all sides and because the guests are mostly well educated and tolerant of diverse views, no one complains about such conversation. Freedom of speech and discourse are respected and lacking ignorant immigrants from Africa, the staff concentrates on their various jobs. They would never think of getting involved in suppressing the patron's quiet and civil speech. I highly recommend that the management of the Metro 29 Diner follow suit unless they want to entertain a suit of a different kind. Even though I have changed my breakfast location in the interest of insuring an undisturbed start to my days, I will occasionally meet my friends and/or employees at the Diner and expect to be treated with the respect I was used to before the unfortunate lapse of judgement of your Manager. I and my employees will enjoy our give and take on the news of the day and will not allow anyone to infringe on our right to discuss the policies of he Government or the Metro's incompetent manager. I suggest that Mr. Kofi go back to Ghana where he may be elected King or Chief Executioner. I appreciate all past courtesies extended to me at the Metro 29 and hope we can go on NOT try to limit anyone's First Amendment rights to civilized FREE speech. Of course since I have seen Peter Bota "hob-nobbing" with the Vice President of the USA, my belief in the political neutrality of the Management has been totally shaken. It seems that it is A-ok for Management to embrace the "second-in-chief" ruining our country, but those of us who do not agree with "lunchbucket" Joe Biden and Peter Bota are supposed to shut up about our views, even in quiet discourse at our own table. I must remind al that there is no "right not to be offended" in the Constitution. Lordt, with a T. The cupcake game has gotten intense over the last five years. There are staples of bakers that crank out these "self cakes" ad nauseam, leading the addicted to all this frosting and cake glory and leaving them with a less than discerning palette. I can't say that about Baked and Wired. Offering a cornucopia of G-PG13 labeled petite gateaux's, ranging from the nostalgic ode (the Unporked Elvis) to the C6H12O6 (look it up - honors chem, so meh) overdoses in snack size ( Uniporn & Rainho), these moist creations are ripe for the picking... However, don't sleep on the barista's camped out in the opposing section - hustling that java, that black gold, that uncut bean juice. When not getting my full Dwight Myers on (google is your friend), I have a penchant for almond milk mochas (@ me or fight me - e da or). The satisfying goodness that was meted out from their La Marzocco or whatevs they were smashing beans and piping filtered water through left the kid on 9. Firmly caffeinated - check, sated cupcake want...chiggity-check. I was ready to dip back to the car with goods to feed the spouse, in-laws and yutes, when lo and behold i spied out of my lil eye, zucchini bread! Oh Shipley Terrace!!!! The pockets were willing...however, the staff was kind enough to point out that my per slice request would far exceed any sensible checking and savings setup, i.e. the whole loaf was cheaper. Loaf was copped. Loaf didn't make it a block. Rest well loaf, rest well. In summation, this joint (Baked & Wired) is fuego, coffee is tasty and well made, customer service is amazing, even on weekends when the line is down the block (i find myself more annoyed at the nubes not understanding the goodness they wish to receive, then at the staff). The spot stays clean and though small and packed and sidewalk space usually occupied, the C&O has a few rest areas right across the street in which a body or two could plop down and sup on their new finds. I like Baked and Wired & Georgetown Cupcake, and they are both better than CakeLove ICK... Baked and Wired and Georgetown Cupcake are totally different concepts and can't really be qualified as competitors because Baked and Wired is more of a one cupcake at a time kind of place as you drink your coffee and GC is more like buy a dozen, take them home, and share. GC has more flavors and selection because that is their main source of income, Baked and Wired's main source of income is drinks. People need to stop cupcake bashing these stores because they are both small companies that are doing well, employing students, and satisfying the sweet tooth of the DC community. GC is still relatively new and trying to work out the kinks, Baked and Wired has been around longer... they are both good and remember cupcakes should make people happy and not be a source of conflict or bashing. Get over it and go to both depending on your craving, you want a cupcake and to sit down, relax and enjoy it while surfing the web with a coffee go to Baked and Wired, you want them for dinner or to bring home to your family or just one in hand to walk with go to Georgetown Cupcake. Georgetown Cupcake also presents a prettier product. Both businesses are quality in service and product. Also remember GC just opened a few months ago and they are working out the kinks that come with any new business... I mean lately there have been very short lines and an availability of flavors. Best bakery in D.C. And that is not said lightly, because I love dessert and have tried almost all of the cupcake places in D.C. B&W beats Sprinkles, Georgetown Cupcakes, Crumbs, the Cupcake Truck, Red Velvet, and Hello Cupcake because: 1. Variety. So many flavors, plus the obvious fact that they bake way more than cupcakes. 2. Coffee and tea. I'm not even a coffee girl, but their iced coffee is excellent. Jasmine green tea was also perfect for a cold day. 3. Employees who are friendly/helpful/attractive, great quotes on the board outside, and bags that say 'get baked.' 4. The person who runs their Twitter account shares my addiction to Game of Thrones. What I've tried: -Tessita cupcake (vanilla cake, chocolate hazelnut frosting, caramel center). Possibly the best cupcake ever. Vanilla cake is dense and moist, and frosting is ridiculous. -Chocolate satin (vanilla cake, chocolate satin frosting). Amazing. -Chai cupcake - pretty tasty -Dirty chai - espresso frosting was way too sugary for me. -Cream cheese brownie - Insane. How is that possible? A half is enough in one sitting, and it's the most creamy, dense, amazing brownie ever. -Raspberry cream cheese brownie - whoa. Not sure that it really needs the raspberry swirl, but I think it works. -Bee Sting (shortbread with honey and almonds) - Possibly the BEST thing they sell. Apparently petty theft is welcome. On the day after Christmas, I witnessed a patron running out the door after a thief who snatched and ran away with his backpack. The guy was alone, so I thought it was nice when I saw another customer ask behind the counter for them to call the police on his behalf while he was chasing after the thief (and probably couldn't call the cops while running). The employee making the decisions was a surly hipster with dreadlocks; he/she refused to call the police and said that there was nothing they could do because the chase had gone down the street. They completely disregarded the fact that the crime occurred on the premises of their establishment to a customer who supports their business. I wonder if they would have reacted the same way if someone absconded with their tip jar or baked goods. I'm not suggesting that it was their responsibility or that they were in on it, but that's the point, all they can do is care just a little bit. They didn't. If the thief was caught, it was no thanks to hapless employees of Baked & Wired The coffee was pretty good, I appreciated the design on the foamed milk, but I could have gone elsewhere for something just as good and would have preferred to go somewhere where they care a little more about the well being of their customers. To be fair my pals and I spent the weekend stopping by the various cupcake places to do some taste testing, and Baked & Wired still has my vote. They Rock! Not only are the cupcakes the best, they are also homemade tasting, homemade looking, and down right perfect (who needs all the cute stuff on a cupcake to make it taste good, not B & W). So, that is the cupcake side of life. One of my friends had a slice of cherry pie and she was in heaven. It was tart and the crust just flaked when her fork sliced into it. If only they had vanilla ice cream!!! OMG there is the coffee side of life at B & W. Beautifully made cappuccinos - did I die and end up Italy with a slice of American Pie!! The best cupcakes ever!! I am seriously obsessed with the strawberry and Smurfette cupcakes. I am a food junkie and have visited pretty much all the cupcake stores out there, and really have never fallen for cupcakes until I came to baked and wired. The cupcakes are made fresh and daily; and simply melts in your mouth. The cupcake batter is moist and soft while the frosting is thick and generous. If you want to try some of the best sellers, you need to pick up your cupcakes early because they won't bake until the following day. The overall vibe of the place is very 'gypsy meets home'. There's a wall that separates the baked goods with the caffeine, so it's your one stop for everything. The one disadvantage is the location. You have to walk down a street, cross a rocky bridge to finally get here. But, I am sure everyone who tries this place once, won't even bat an eye, in order to get another taste of the cupcakes. Totally fandemonium over the cupcakes here. Seriously. There are weeks out of the year where I stop by every week to pick up half a dozen cupcakes on my way home from work and for some reason, having these smaller version of a full cake takes the guilt out of the frequent indulging. My favorite flavor: strawberry. Perfectly diced strawberries bursting with flavor with each bite with the impeccable strawberry buttercream frosting on top -- magnifique.] I usually pick up a couple pistachios (because who doesn't love pistachio on cake?!) but do wish they would calm down with the cardamom notes... it can be overpowering for such a subtle nut as a pistachio. Love their dirty chai and their red velvet. You cannot go wrong with their carrot cake or coconut either. Pretty b*tchin' is great as well, but be ready for a complete b*tchfest if you go with her. I loved the simple, yet cozy decor. Big leather couches and chairs that just begged you to curl up in them (that's what my buddy and I did). An open, deconstructed floor plan that made it all seem light and airy. The staff there were the perfect compliment to this feel-at-home vibe. Good coffee, awesome selection of specialty teas, great lunch and AMAZING baked goods!! An awesome place to stop for a light lunch, but ABSOLUTELY save room for dessert! The cupcakes are TO DIE FOR!! I visited Baked and Wired over the weekend, and I still can't stop thinking about it! Their famous cakecups are a game-changer--the perfect icing-to-cake ratio and some of the most moist cupcakes I've ever had. The quirky names and friendly service were standout highlights, as were their unique and seasonal flavors, like "Razmanian Devil" and "Unicorn & Rainho." While some might find them a bit on the pricier side, I believe they're absolutely worth the splurge. Beyond their incredible cupcakes, they also offer a café menu with an array of delicious coffee and teas. The Iced Chai has officially become my go-to, though I'm eager to try the Thai Tea on my next visit. I've been to B&W 3 times and each experience is different. Primarily because they bake their cupcakes in small batches daily. These are true artisans. Recently I picked up their flap-jack cupcake (a maple bacon pancake cupcake) which was 'Holy Jeepers, Batman' level awesome. The second time that I was there I had theIr cherry-blossom cupcake which was bad- and I'm not talking Michael Jackson (or maybe I am?). My first cupcake from them was a strawberry cupcake that was pretty cool. It was very rich with authentic flavor. What hasn't necessarily changed is that the cupcakes are always served with a side of 'tude, which they can keep. We wanted to have a cupcake fundraiser. After calling around, Baked & Wired was the only cupcake store that was nice enough to allow us to have our cupcake fundraiser there. The staff was very accommodating. They were nice enough to let us use their lounge. When people started to arrive, I heard nothing but praise about their cupcakes. Everyone kept exclaiming how delicious they were. I couldn't wait to take a bite because they looked yummy and huge! After the fundraiser, I ate the carrot cake one, and I was in heaven. One would think a coffee shop with WIRED in it's name might have a working wireless connection. Coffee was good. So was the ginger pumpkin bread. But I ended up taking my coffee to go and walking up to Barnes and Noble which has a reliable internet connection so I could send a few emails while getting wired. And then because of all that I got a parking ticket. Please guys - kind of lame to say that your wireless connection just comes and goes. Threw off my whole morning. While others are daintily eating their cute as a button Georgetown Cupcakes, I will be stuffing my face with a Baked and Wired one. Sure they are a bit expensive, but they are authentic, big, fluffy and full of unique frosting and cupcake base flavor. They are also accommodating to those with dietary needs. They always have at least one gluten free cupcake and one vegan, but when you go in the store there are usually more. All of the cupcakes I have ever eaten there send me over the moon. Ok, I do love coffee but when it comes to cappucino I am a fanatic. At baked & wired i watched the barista prepping my "cappa". he got it all right! The machine was cleaned, the espresso moved quickly from grinding to the espresso machine, and the final product oozzed slowly into the pr-warmed cup. I know it's just an appearance thing- but the latte art was a detailed tree. I think this shows the barista really hs pride and knowledge of his trade. The cappucino was creamy, hot and rich tasting. This place has such a good vibe!! Very sweet staff; being "young" myself I enjoyed having a more offbeat (my boss calls it hipster) staff. They carry great coffee brands, very few people have intelligentsia around DC, so that was a plus. My latte was beautifully presented, the latte art was to die for. However the coffee itself was a little bitter. I'm a barista myself so perhaps I was being a little picky, but it was definitely on the 'short' end, what we call a face-melter at my work. Baked and Wired in Washington DC had a decent selection of cupcakes and cake cups, but none of the flavors stood out as exceptional. Unfortunately, all of the cakes were dry, with only the carrot cake showing some moisture. The cream cheese frosting was the best topping among the seven flavors I tried. The Gluten Free option fell flat and was not good. The staff was friendly, and the cafe had a great vibe, but overall, the bakery fell short of expectations. Awesome cupcakes that causes me to forget counting calories! Decor: Nice and hip. It was very crowded when I went, so I did not eat my magical cupcakes in the shop but the place felt hip and homely. They're kind, flexible, and helpful. I had ordered a 1lb donut for a party (that was gorgeous and delicious) and had to change the party date, so had to push the donut pick up date three weeks. Everyone was nothing less than lovely as they worked with me to confirm the new date, and did it with a smile. Thank you so much to everyone for such a positive experience.
