The environment and seating is quite nice and comfortable, though indoor seating is a bit limited but there are tables outside and just get it to go as well. I liked baked and wired better, the wifey said it was tie and the young said Georgetown cupcakes were slightly better but they were both good. Bigger cupcake = more frosting = winner for me. I had red velvet and it did not disappoint. Young one had carrot cake and liked it and wifey had razzle berry and we all thought it was the best. Good coffee also. After hearing several of my friends hype up Baked & Wired, we came by after a delicious lunch at Filomena to stock up on some sweets. I'm generally not a sweet dessert person, but I knew I had to try the ever so famous cupcakes from here. It was raining when we came, but the line was still out the door. The line moves pretty quickly, so definitely be prepared when you're in line. After perusing the cupcake selection, I went with the Smurf (lemon and blueberry) for $4. Yes, the cupcakes are pretty pricey, but were they worth it? Sadly, 1 bite later, and I was kinda disappointed. The cupcake was pretty dry inside and unbelievably sweet. ~ gluten free review ~ Have been planning on visiting Baked & Wired even before moving to DC. For all of the hype around the cupcakes, I was interested in trying their gluten free chipper to see if it was up to the standards of their regular cupcake. First off, the cake base was wonderful and not super dry like gluten free baked goods can end up. However, the frosting is very sweet, and I could have gone for less in the cake to frosting ratio. The lattes were very good, but I wouldn't head all the way over to Baked & Wired for just the latte. I don't know where to begin with this review because I bought so many treats from this place to share with my family and tried so much of it that there's just so much I can write about. I'll try and keep it short and to the point. Razmanian Devil cupcake - tart, sweet, and recipe made just right! The inside had raspberry jam and the outside was lemon buttercream. I'm not even a fan of raspberry but this was absolutely addicting! Elvis cupcake/PB & banana (with bacon if you life) - banana cupcake with peanut butter frosting and chocolate drizzle. Very slightly dry cupcake but still yummy. German chocolate cupcake - one of my faves! Perfectly moist, chocolately, and mouthgasm-worthy. Melts in your mouth. Red velvet cupcake - just like any other red velvet cake, BUT the cream cheese frosting was unforgettable! Rich, sufficiently sweet, and also melts in your mouth. Pretty bitchin' - chocolate cupcake with PB frosting and some Virginia peanuts (yum!). Such a simple combo but perfectly made!! Moist cupcake with a creamy frosting and a slight crunch. Just... perfection in every bite. My mouth is drooling now... Uniporn cupcake - this was the one I was most excited about but ended up being disappointed with. It was the very first thing I tried and it was dry all around. The inside was dry and almost tasteless and the icing, while colorful, failed to impress. It was the driest icing out of the bunch. I almost decided to not try the rest since I thought they'd be the same. I'm guessing I just happened to get a dry one from a rare, bad batch due to the high demand for them and the bakers having to meet that demand quickly. Idk. I know it's a favorite with the customers though. Coconut chocolate bar - just like an Almond Joy, but way more coconut and with richer, thicker, longer chocolate! Soccer mom bar - graham cracker, chocolate chips, coconut, and butterscotch chips with caramel drizzle. Meh. Mine had a hint of ginger. It was weird. I looked at the ingredients online and it doesn't have ginger listed. I think there was a bit of an accidental crossover in the mixing. Idk. Who knows. Plain Jane brownie - so chunky and huge, but as its name suggests, it was very..... very plain in taste. Just a simple brownie. Nothing to it. Lastly, customer service. I read somewhere that they provide great customer service, but when I went, they were rushing us and seemed a bit ticked. It felt stressed in that narrow cafe/bakery. Some of the best cupcakes I've ever had. I don't even like cupcakes but my wife is a dessert person so we had to stop by. We were in DC for a week and stopped by this place when we were visiting Georgetown. We actually went twice since they were so good and had to get some as a gift for some friends. When we went back the 2nd time around, there was a line of maybe like 15 people going out the door. However, it went by pretty fast. In total, we got their chai, confetti, strawberry, and dark velvet flavors. Strawberry was definitely my favorite. The chai flavor has a pretty strong maple taste. All of them were pretty good, larger than your standard sprinkles cupcakes, with a good cupcake to frosting ratio. The store interior was also cutely decorated and there were a lot of people sitting inside. The place is split in two, with the baked goods on the left and the drinks/coffee on the right. If you like cupcakes, or even if you don't, you should definitely try this place out! read more

Hmm Baked and Wired is a famous Georgetown institution and if you are a cupcake fan these big "cake cups" are worth a gander. The flavors are fun and appealing, and have such strong variety it's hard to choose. The shop is very cute, smells so warm and sugary, and the staff are so awesome. This is my go-to spot for cupcakes, not Sprinkles, not Georgetown (sorry not sorry) but I'm sure they're doing just fine too. The cupcakes are slightly larger and just very consistently moist and delicious. Some of my favorite flavors are strawberry, red velvet, and carrot. I go nuts for red velvet but their strawberry is actually my #1 favorite. I tried their seasonal flavored lattes for the first time today and I didn't love them. If this were a coffee only review, I'd give probably 2 stars but I really can't go below 4 because of their cupcakes. I absolutely love pumpkin spice and horchata (coming from LA) but both really missed the mark. First, horchata is sweet, cinnamony and milky but the latte tasted extremely nutty (probably almond milk) and the horchata flavor was very subtle, too subtle. When I had about a quarter left, a thick puree remained on the bottom. The pumpkin spice latte smelled amazeballs but tasted like a pumpkin puree or soup. Both were almost undrinkable. But I did love all their COVID precautions. They limit the number of people inside the shop and make sure everyone's spaced out. The staff here are very friendly and is always a good experience coming here.. only for their food. read more

Brownie is good but sometimes the plane Jane brownie tastes like it may not be as fresh as one of the speciality brownies that they bake and sell out of more often. They do store a lot of their desserts in Tupperware containers in the back but they are usually fresh and taste like they are made recently. The vanilla vanilla and uniporn and rainho cupcakes are good but we thought the lemon blueberry did not have a lot of flavor and did not taste as fresh. Trying to get cupcakes delivered is very inconvenient. Mostly the problem is confusing or misleading information on their website (for example, FAQ says delivery fee is flat $5, but when I tried to order, the fee came up as $25) and a very limited delivery range. In the end, the address I put in (which is 15 minutes from the store) is outside of their delivery range. I live across the country and was hoping to treat someone in DC to cupcakes for their birthday. The products sound great, but we shall never know. I almost get the feeling like they are too busy or don't really want to deliver. That is fine, but they should straight up say so. read more

I waver between here and Georgetown Cupcakes all the time. Baked and Wired is the more indulgent of the two with large, dense cupcakes. Their flavors are also more adventurous--which can end up as both a blessing or regret. But after you find the flavors you like, you'll probably go back for more. The best cupcake in DC! DC had a big cupcake crazy back in the day with several other competing bakeries like Georgetown cupcake and sprinkles to make a few but Baked & Wired is truly the best! The cupcakes are huge, have a great selection of flavors, and is not overly sweet. The frosting to cake ratio is perfect. The flavors are rich without being overwhelming. I would recommend the pistachio, chocolate hazelnut, and strawberry. I wish they had a larger delivery radius because I would order all the time and for special occasions! In addition to cupcakes, they do mean desserts. I love the s'mores bar. The buttery graham cracker crust, springy marshmallow, and smooth layer of chocolate on top makes it an elevated s'more for sure. Location: tucked away down an alley in Georgetown so parking can be difficult. Any trip to Gtown I recommend talking the metro to Foggy Bottom and walking over. Or there are limited spaces by the residential houses up the street or down by the waterfront below the bridge. read more

Today was my cheat meal day and I was craving cupcakes. Baked & Wired was the first thing that came to my mind. It must have been meant to be as I was able to get a parking space directly in front of the bakery. But to my dismay there was a line of at least 25 people standing in literally freezing rain waiting to go in. Initially, I thought to leave. But I noticed there was a line for Grubhub pickup and online ordering pick up line. I quickly opted to order via the bakery's website. I literally skipped the line! I've been hearing about Baked & Wired since I first moved to Georgetown. Finally, after two years, I made my way here. I've had Georgetown cupcakes (it's probably most cited competitor) and sprinkles (in California only). Compared to Georgetown cupcakes, I'd say Baked & Wired decor has a more "grunge/edgy" feel. We came in about 45 minutes before closing on a Thursday night, and were lucky to grab a seat in the back to enjoy our cupcake. There wasn't really an overhead menu, so we were initially confused about how to order. The cupcakes are intricately displayed in the front, with their most popular ones in more distinguished glass cases. We decided to try one of the more popular cupcakes, their strawberry cupcake. The frosting tasted like genuine strawberry fruit, and was the perfect amount of sweetness for the cupcake base. @ ~$5/piece, the cupcakes fall on the more expensive side, but I'd say they are definitely big enough for a couple to share. I'll probably bring out-of-town friends here (to avoid the lines at Georgetown cupcakes + for a slightly superior cupcake), but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to check it out. I was fortunate to try a variety of cupcake flavors. I appreciated their array of flavor options, but it wasn't a big enough hype or huge deal for me to return if there was too long of a line. Our line was out the door but it moved quickly on a Sunday afternoon. Here are my top favorites out of the 7 I tried: Karen's Birthday Cake - a classic vanilla cake with chocolate whipped cream. The cake was moist, the whipping was decadent with a nice texture pairing. I appreciated how it wasn't overly sweet. It sounds simple but after trying 6 different ones this was my favorite. Carrot cake - moist, not overly sweet, and just divine... Razmanian Devil - I wasn't in the tart mood but tried this anyway. It wasnt good at first bite until I realized I hadn't reached the raspberry filling yet. If you get this, you have to try it together to appreciate the cupcake. I wished there was a bit more filling but it was still good. Dirty Chai - great unique blend of flavors. I dont even like coffee flavored desserts and I loved this. It had a subtle hint of coffee flavor in the frosting. The other cupcakes I tried that weren't so memorable were the Vanilla Satin and Pistachio. I also ordered the zucchini bread since it sounded unique but it wasnt bad, it just didn't leave an impression or sound as amazing as I thought it would taste. We loved absolutely everything we tried. It was absolutely delicious and we would recommend stopping by to anyone in the area. The service leaves something to be desired. It was raining when we arrived. There were lots of people waiting in line. The line blocked the door and stopped before the coffee section of the store. One of the young women behind the counter tonight kept saying "make one straight line" to all of us waiting. We moved from clumps of people into a single file line, which is what I thought she wanted so that the floor was clear. However, she said this same line 3-4 more times as new people came in. Eventually, she stopped what she was doing and said "One straight line!" loudly and in a rude tone of voice that made me feel uncomfortable, like a child being chastised. I didn't know what she meant by this until she added "Don't block the door". It was still raining, and I along with the rest of the people waiting in line that were behind the door moved to wait outside. The coffee section of the store was empty and it was posted outside that they weren't serving drinks, so it would have really been nice to have been extended the courtesy of not having to stand in the rain. At this point I was holding the door open as the people behind me followed me out to wait outside. The woman at the counter then said, while looking at me, "And you can't hold that door open either". This was embarrassing and simply unkind. I wanted to leave then, as everyone was looking at me funny and I felt uncomfortable, but my friend was in the bathroom. As soon as it was about to be my turn to order, the woman who was unkind to me left the counter and went to the back to get more cupcakes. She didn't look at me as I tried to get her attention so that I could explain that I had no intention to frustrate her or not follow the rules, I just didn't understand what she meant. After I ordered with another woman, the original one told the line, once again, that they needed to wait outside. However, she did it in a much nicer tone. Overall, I get it that working in food service can be exhausting and so difficult. I really didn't mean to cause a problem, but I left feeling a little bit down and embarrassed (also pretty wet from waiting outside in the rain). read more

Food: Pumpkin (4.5/5), Pistachio (3.5/5), Strawberry (4/5), Vanilla Satin (3.5/5), Dirty Chai (5/5) My recommendation: I'd highly recommend the Dirty Chai. It was my personal favorite of the 5 or so flavors that we ordered. If you're a fan of coffee flavored desserts, this is absolutely the cupcake for you. Service: The staff was nice and friendly! We even got there around 30 minutes before closing, which (being a food service worker before, I know) is the time you normally wish you were home already as an employee. They do close at 4PM every day, though, so if you're looking for a late night cupcake run, you're outta luck. Facility: It's small, but homey. Due to COVID precautions, we were required to stand outside in the monstrous line, but it went by fairly quickly (15-20 mins). Bang/Buck: Eh. At nearly ~$4.50 per, you're looking at spending almost $30 for half a dozen. Perfect stop if you're looking for just one serving, though! Overall: I'd rate Baked and Wired a 4/5.
