This was my first time trying Baked by Melissa cupcakes. I was not expecting them to be so tiny! They were really good though. All of them were so moist. They are on the sweeter side but since they are so small, it's easy to eat the whole tray. Their iconic tie dye one was my favourite. I was hesitant to eat it because of all the colouring but I am glad I tried it. I got these through Uber Eats and they had a BOGO promotion. OMG I AM OBSESSED! My friend sent me this little guys and they are my new favorite thing. I'm def ordering more asap. They are fancy schmancy with very cool flavors like Tie-Dye, PB&J, Chocolate Chip Pancake and Mint Cookie. Then some more seemingly chill flavors like Cookie Dough, Red Velvet, Cookie & Cream and Triple Chocolate Fudge. I swear to you, every flavor was better than the last. I loved every~single~one. They have a consistency that is different than a normal cupcake, a bit thicker and less cakey, more fudgey, but I just enjoyed them so much. They're small as others said and not cheap, but for me, the deliciousness is worth it. Plus they are so pretty, so great as a gift or to bring to a gathering. Items come well packaged upon delivery with a large re-freezable cooling pack. In the heat of the Texas sun, the cupcakes were still cold when taken out of the box right after delivery - and oh so delicious! Flavors available are nirvana to your sweet tooth. "Meh. I've experienced better." Came here after trying the birthday cake frosty from Wendy's. So the concept is interesting, get a bunch of bite-sized cupcakes rather than one flavor of a large one from say Magnolia Bakery. In any case, the staff was super nice and the place was clean. No complaints there. The cupcakes I tried were not all that great (a bit dry and lacking in flavor) and I think the value isn't either. There are a lot of other more fulfilling desserts out thereat a better price-point. That or just go to place like Magnolia Bakery where the cupcakes are much larger and cost less. I remember seeing Baked by Melissa when they were small cupcake carts. It's nice to see them in a larger space! This was the first stop on the Great New York Tours' Cupcake Tour of The Village. Since it was a small space, we waited outside while our tour guide Mallory retrieved the cupcakes. The shop is modern and and well lit. There's a white counter with their pictures of the cupcakes on the menu. Their cupcakes truly are "bite-sized"! And since they're so small, you shouldn't feel too guilty about just eating one! Though that's so not possible; they're too damn addicting! We had the "Snowball". Definitely, not one that I'd pick first, but oh was it delicious!!! It was vanilla cake, fudge stuffing, and a coconut topping. I probably would have bought a box full of these quarter-sized cupcakes, but we had other cupcake spots to check out. If you don't live in the city, they offer nationwide shipping, (minimum purchase 25 cupcakes) as well as a "Mini of the Month" Club where you can receive cupcakes throughout the year! They even have other cupcake goodies available for purchase. OH! And they have a Cupcake Pod Machine that you can rent for an event! (Gumballs are so antiquated!) It is a cool idea but if you are an animal like me you can take down a whole 12 pack without thinking. These aren't the cheapest either but I understand the artisan approach and the cost of that. They were never delivered. The phone number provided won't let you speak to a person. Three emails have gone unanswered. Next, I'll dispute the charge with the credit card company. We were actually planning on going to a different dessert place, but it was closed, so we decided to try out Baked by Melissa! I was a bit sad to see the place is more of a grab and go versus being able to sit down in the dessert shop, but no matter! The lady at the cashier was helpful to us, giving us her suggestions on what flavors she likes most as well as the different type of mixing and matching we can do with the various macarons and the cupcakes. She even let us sample a marshmallow cupcake for free! We ended up getting the salted caramel macarons and the sugar cookie macaron. The caramel macaron was somewhat disappointing, as I expected it to taste like an explosion of caramel. However, it tasted more like chocolate as opposed to caramel, which was supposed to be the primary flavor. However, I loved the sugar cookie macaron! It reminded me of the frosted animal crackers I used to eat when I was younger. We also bought the white chocolate cupcake, the cookies 'n' cream cupcake, and the cookie dough cupcake. The white chocolate cupcake mostly tasted like vanilla, although I liked how there was a relatively large piece of white chocolate topping the cupcake. It added some texture to this very soft cupcake! The cookies n cream cupcake more so tasted like chocolate - kind of average, but nonetheless tasty! The cookie dough cupcake was sweet but a little plain. There was a topping of cookie dough, although it was overshadowed by the rich chocolate frosting on top. I'm glad we tried out Baked by Melissa! These mini cupcakes are perfect because they are bite sized and doesn't fill you up. They are a bit pricey for their size, but they taste amazing. You can get assorted flavors of 6 or even a big packet of prepackaged 25. They have some flavors that are always around like peanut butter & jelly, cookie dough, red velvet, tie dye, and some others. What is cool about this place is that they come out with a special monthly flavor which is always different. They also cater to gluten free diets here, but each mini cupcake is $1.50 instead of $1. Now I don't mind tacitly supporting my girlfriend's latest addiction to cupcakes, but this was the worst place we have ever tried together -- by a lot. Apparently Melissa, who goes by one name like she is as famous as Madonna or something, specializes in "miniature stuffed cupcakes". They offer up 10 different varieties of cupcakes and will sell you 12 of your choice for $10. The key word there is "miniature". Please see the attached photo. I included a $20 bill next to the box of 12 just for scaling purposes. Incidentally, if you took all 12 cupcakes out of the box and pushed them together, they would exactly fit on a $20 bill. That's perhaps a bit too small for the price. Even "Brownie Bites" are larger than this. Sweet Tarts are smaller, but not by much. The next part of that phrase is "stuffed cupcake". Now each of the cupcakes is dotted with some combination of flavored icings which distinguishes its type from the others. Supposedly, these icings extend down into the cupcake, but I was never able to discern this. Indeed, several of the cupcakes that we had used chocolate cake for the base, and they pretty much all tasted exactly the same. The only difference was when my tongue came in contact with the icing on top so I could register the difference. I guess if I was ranking these, I would say that the Peanut Butter Cup was the best of the worst. Overall, gimmicky. There is nothing whatsoever to justify the price premium. I understand the concept of diminishing returns, but that wasn't what was going on here. In fact, there was barely enough of any one cupcake to fully grasp the taste that was supposed to be there. I opted to get a dozen ($10!) a couple of cookies & cream, peanut butter cup, red velvet, smores and mint chocolate chip. Got them home...it took exactly 3 minutes to consume all of them. Even more annoying is that the actual cake to these cupcakes all basically tastes the same with the exception of the Red Velvet one which just tasted okay. It was really hard to gauge any kind of flavor from such a small sample. My mind is just blown how they get away with charging so much money for these things. Yes, they do have some interesting flavors for the toppings but, I have to say, even if these were normal sized, I don't feel compelled to eat anymore, it simply wasn't that good. This is actually a location that you can walk in, unlike the Spring St. location. Awesome, tiny shop, but it's a perfect size for these cupcakes. They sell beverages, too. These cupcakes are bite-sized, so 1-2 bites per cupcake and the original ones (not chocolate covered) are under 50 calories each. Not bad for a sweet indulgence. Of the Manhattan locations, I frequent the Union Square location the most often. The lines are reasonable and the staff gets you in and out quickly. All of the flavors are great! My favorites are Cookies & Cream, Cookie Dough, and Triple Chocolate Fudge. They are a bit on the pricy side at $1 per cupcake, but they offer a slight discount when you order 6 or more. $5.50 for 6 cupcakes, $10 for 12 cupcakes, $20 for 25 cupcakes. Increments of 50 or 100 are also 20% off. These are fun and enjoyable. Definitely try them out if you have an opportunity. Or better yet, create an opportunity. My friend lives in the apartment building immediately next to this place, so I experience the temptation to munch on a bite-sized cupcake while I ride the elevator to his apartment. (I know, what a specific experience.) But the cupcakes just aren't that good, and even for the ones that are (the red velvet is pretty good), they're just not worth it! A cupcake that is roughly the size of a quarter should not cost a dollar. It just should not. Additionally... the last time I took someone there we saw a fly on one of the cupcakes. I first heard about Baked By Melissa when I worked an event called Harvest in the Square where restaurants from Union Sq. come set up shop and people who bought tickets came and ate and drank. If you didn't take one now, people would have eaten it all up and then you wouldn't have got to try it... There were some who took two. Since I was working the event I couldn't try any. But my sister got some for Thanksgiving. I thought she'd order it but she waited until Thanksgiving day. I thought she wouldn't have got any because it's Thanksgiving day, and that day is hectic for desserts. But she came home with a whole box of 25 cupcakes, which came out to $20 I think. I ate a few. You have to be careful because these things are so small, you can just pop one into your mouth, and if you keep popping them into your mouth, one can turn into 10. I'm not into sweet things, the cute colorful one was too sweet for me, but I had the oreo, peanut butter choc, smores and another flavor and it wasn't too sweet.
