The wonderful staff at Magnolia just saved my keister. I was tasked with picking up a birthday cake for my boss' daughter, and what awful nightmare of an incident should befall upon me but to turn whilst dodging the crowd queuing all around in the bakery and have the bag with the cake slip through my fingers? SPLAT! Well, in all honesty, no perfectly dramatic "splat" did occur, but I did royally screw up, as the cake slid against the side of its container, and the icing was irreparably smooshed. The staff were very calm, although I was (quietly) freaking out, and they said they couldn't promise another cake to the original order's specifications. I asked if the ruined cake could be scraped and the icing replaced, but an amazing baker just shrugged and was able to replicate the cake perfectly right there. The immense relief I experienced following this incident, which felt like being in a comedy movie (of course, when the disaster is personal, it hardly feels funny), was simply elating.
