I have been to this location of this bakery a handful of times, with their original spot on Madison. While I'm not the biggest cupcake fan, they have a nice selection of cakes, bars, and other things for pretty reasonable prices, especially in Midtown. The staff are also friendly. The most recent time, I got a Ube Buttercake Bar for $4.25, or something very similar. As per the name, it is made with ube, or purple yam, and it has a slight purplish hue. It was just a bit rich, had a soft texture inside, and had a very mild ube flavor with a bit of vanilla. The dessert was decent, but not strong enough of a ube flavor for me to buy it again. Much better was the Brookie I got the first time for $4.50 or so, listed as a blend of their Ooey Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar and Fudge Brownie. I was happy that the chocolate chip part was dark chocolate, and it wasn't overly sweet. Otherwise, it had a nice mix of textures, with some soft and crunchier parts. I liked it a lot more. The prices here are decent enough, and the quality isn't that bad. It's not a place I would go out of my way to go to, but it's nice to be nearby if I want to pick up a snack or something similar. I would probably try a slice of cake, or another bar such as their lemon or dream, next time. read more

I've been a customer of Buttercup for many years, which is why this experience was so disappointing. A recent order had clear issues that should never have happened, and the way it was handled afterward made it worse. I reached out directly to give them a chance to address it and never received any response. Seeing similar complaints in other reviews makes it obvious this isn't a one-off and they just don't care. My husband ordered a cake from here and it was delish. Simple design, yet affordable. Staff is always so pleasant here. He also brought home some snicker doodle and chocolate chip cookies. Went to this spot because we wanted sweets after eating and they were opened. It was packed which showed me it has to be good sweets. The person was very helpful to tell us their most popular cupcakes and puddings. I tried the funfetti birthday cake and it was soft, very sweet, and delicious. Cute local bakeshop for some yummy cupcakes. I'm usually at the downtown Murray Hill location, but after a meal across the street, we swung by for cupcakes. Buttercup does great classic cupcakes, small but moist and tender to the last crumb. Buttercream frosting is not cloyingly sweet, but smooth and light. $14 for a box of four, but they don't hold well in the summer heat! I like the flavors from their "premium" lineup, and this time got the Ube, Salted Caramel, Apple Pie and Red Velvet. All were delectable, especially the apple pie a la mode. Ube needed way more ube flavor though. Eat them quick, as the HOT summer is not kind to the frosting. We traveled a few blocks and the frosting was slipping and sliding away. read more
