I walked in after a different local place screwed up my breakfast royally. When I walked in, I was greeted with smiling faces and an enormous swath of pastry choices. I decided to grab a latte and a chocolate cream puff. The coffee was so smooth and the delicate yet decadent cream puff tasted amazing. I waited over an hour for my food. I got a bagel with eggs and the place was essentially empty and I still waited over an hour. I complained numerous times and I was not refunded my money or compensated in any way for waiting for so long. There was no sense of urgency in the kitchen. How else can I comprehend such widely varying reviews for a little boutique coffee shop that, I thought, produced pretty good java and a pretty good sandwich in a pretty prompt fashion in a pretty convenient location? The coffee is subpar and the service is very unfriendly. We tried to order a birthday cake several days in advance and when we tried to get it a little earlier, they were very unaccommodating. The owner told us we could cancel the cake or get it at the original scheduled time and those were the only options. Very unpleasant and unfriendly. Additionally, when you go into the store to get food or coffee it takes a very long time to get it. This shop is not worth the time or money. read more

Our family spent a week in Dewey and started each day here for breakfast. They have excellent coffee and an interesting selection of bagel sandwiches and crepes. It was a good stop to set us up for a day on the beach. You can decorate your own coffee too. Also in the afternoon after a bike ride or day at the beach their cold brew ice coffee was a treat. What an awesome addition to Dewey Beach! I have long thought there needed to be a better coffee and breakfast place here. As much as a love Starboard's breakfast, sometimes you just need a more low key spot to get your morning fix. Stopped in with a friend this morning and got a few bagel sandwiches to go, a pecan bun, and a few drinks - iced tea, matcha tea latte, and mocha. Everything was delicious and even though they were absolutely swamped, came out in a reasonable amount of time. The staff was all friendly and efficient. Delicious variety of coffees, baked treats, and confections to start your morning. They had six large thermos-style coffee carafes that served out very hot coffee. A generous sugar/milk bar with plenty of seating inside and outside. A few families with dogs and sleepy-eyes adults alike converged here on this 4th of July. Staff was friendly and quick to serve. The best breakfast place in Dewey! First--the baked goods--OMG. All of the baking and prep is done in house. The staff is laughing as they cooked and you can tell there is a lot of love in the food. You walk in and there are donuts, cupcakes and homemade pies in the window and on the counter. You can smell the cinnamon buns from the street. But, they also have a great breakfast! We went here twice during our visit. There are many different breakfast options here---crepes, fresh omelettes, sandwiches etc. They use all fresh ingredients and there is something special about their herb turkey they roast in house and include in some breakfast options. The coffee is off the charts! Owned by locals who definitely take pride in their craft. Happy to support a local shop while on vacation. read more

Horrible - I had really hoped this would be a Dewey institution. After a few weeks, the service is now bad, and our family members were initially regulars. When I paid, the order came to $23 - I gave the woman $25 and she placed it in drawer and walked away..no change offered. Since I would have given it as a tip, I let it go. It gets better... So, I had ordered a chicken salad sandwich - instead got a black bean hummus. My daughter's sandwich had cheese, even though she asked twice to make sure it was right. And we almost left without the 3 donuts we ordered and got attitude when we asked for them to be given to us. The place was empty. Baked has opened a second location, Twice Baked, in Rehoboth. Article in the Cape Gazette made it sound like a fun place to try. So I did. Given that they are newly opened maybe that was the problem. Asked for decaf iced coffee. One employee said they ran out of it earlier. A second employee said they do not serve it ever. Was also told if I wanted regular coffee, they were out of coffee beans? Good thing I don't drink coffee! Waited 15 minutes to be waited on. There were only 2 other customers and two employees filling the orders. Ordered an apple, raisin, cinnamon muffin and a mini sticky bun. Never have experienced needing a "steak knife" to cut into a muffin. There literally was no apple and 3 raisins. Faint scent of cinnamon. Likewise with the sticky bun. Both looked delicious but had the consistency that occurs when bread is placed in a microwave and hardens as it cools. A suggestion to the owner...staff needs training and the set up of how and where to order is confusing. Expensive. Will never go back to this coffee bar. Service was terrible, staff was rude, and the beverages were awful. I attempted to order three different drinks and they were out of everything. They made our smoothie wrong plus it tasted sour. They hand you a cup and tell you to "go get your own coffee" when you order a latte. After we waited half an hour for three drinks and complained about the poor service all we got was attitude and "there's nothing we can do". I needed a birthday cake for a friend the evening of the day I called them and was lucky enough to have called right after the owner made a Chocolate Raspberry Layer Cake. Horrible experience. First of all, we placed an online order and they did not even start it by the time we got there to pick it up 40 minutes later. In fact, we had to prompt them that we even had an online order and they started it AFTER finishing other orders. They never apologized or tried to rectify the situation at all as we sat there for an extra 20 minutes, making our wait time over an hour from when we placed our order. To make it worse they woman making my greek salad put cinnamon in my salad. I watched her put a spice in my salad and she realized she made a mistake and proceeded to pull some of the spinach leafs and cucumbers out that had the most of cinnamon instead of starting me a new salad. Needless to say, there was still cinnamon in my greek salad and as you can imagine, it was disgusting. VERY disappointed in every aspect of my meal. read more

You can't find a worse service experience - although we have run into our fair share in Dewey . After placing our order and waiting 15 minutes - we are told that they ran out of crepes . Then 10 minutes to refund us , yet sill charging us for the watt and bagels . Then another 13 minutes to get the bagels - which every of one of the 3 bagels were done wrong and burnt - despite not wanting them toasted . Still waiting on a smoothie after all this . Food is really good although the menu is a little overwhelming. The baked treats look awesome. I've been several times and service is always pretty slow, but the cashier is very friendly. Three stars because the two times I went this weekend one of the guys making the sandwiches was also eating behind the line. I watched him making a sandwich then take bites of his own, wipe his mouth with the same hand making customers' sandwiches and then rub his eyes. Also wiped his mouth with the towel that I think is used for wiping down counters. Not sanitary at all...think I will stick to the coffee and smoothies in the future. read more

Came on the recommendation of the front desk at the Hyatt while looking for a coffee shop. Dedicated coffee shops are really hard to find here, the towns still all about local diners where you get coffee with your meal --not a bad thing, but I'd forgotten what life was like before coffee shops were de rigeur. Enter baked, full of amazing looking crepes, fudge, cupcakes, and other yuppie delights! Didn't try any of those but at least they were available. Had hot tea and picked up iced coffee to go. The coffee was good, but the tea was a little random. They had a big jar with half open boxes and loose bags of different brands, mostly different takes on green tea, and mostly Lipton. I tried a mango green tea (the barista looked almost surprised to see that it was an option when I pointed to it). It tasted like generic green tea, no mango flavor whatsoever, which was disappointing. but if you're looking for a cute cafe with nice staff and be satisfied with the fact that a coffeehouse exists in Dewey beach, this place is the spot! read more

So, my sister stopped by for a to-go bagel & brought the menu home. It looked awesome! The last day of our vacation, I made a point to go there for lunch before we left Dewey. I ordered the "Tandoori Chicken Sandwich" on an Onion Na'an bread. ($9.50) After the order was placed, the cook, with a toothpick in his mouth made a few comments that I could not understand. I was told the cook hates to make these sandwiches, & this was his 5th one today. Poor guy, one would hope he was getting paid to make them! Lol. The na'an was not available, so I went with the Italian bread. It was good, nice flavors--fresh & healthy, and a smaller portioned sub, if not a bit dry, more sauce, please. The bread was phenomenal, though. A lot of places here try to deliver stellar customer service to get & keep business. I did not get that vibe during my visit. However, after my initial review, I heard from the owner, and she talked to the staff, so I believe their customer service will be different that what I initially encountered. I was very happy to hear it! I will def. be back to visit & I recommend this restaurant to friends. read more

"Baked" is a new bakery/chocolate shop that opened in Dewey Beach just a few weeks ago. They offer a tempting array of individually sized confections including beautiful cupcakes, miniature pies, scones, cookies, brownies, and even precious little homemade chocolates crafted by Pam who is a chocolatier. Is a friend having a birthday? Get her one of their miniature dark chocolate ganache layer cakes! The cakes are about 2.5" in diameter and only an inch tall, yet they have two layers of chocolate cake, chocolate frosting between the layers, and then their belgian dark chocolate ganache as the final "icing" over the whole cake. Wow! They also have a devil's food cupcake with homemade chocolate buttercream icing. I haven't tried many of their chocolates but couldn't resist their dark chocolates with dreamcicle filling. There is plenty for the non-chocolate lovers as well. They make lovely lemon cupcakes, and tiny lemon tarts. Many of their creations also feature coconut--which I love! You can get eclairs, with dark chocolate icing, with or without coconut. Today I saw they had coconut cupcakes, but I haven't tried those yet. They also make little tiny coconut cream pies! Their offerings vary by the day--with more variety available on the weekends. Evidently, today they had pumpkin muffins--but were completely sold out of them by noon! They also include salted caramel in their selections. Today I saw a "turtle tart" for the turtle fans out there (but they only had 1 left when I got there!) They also have more conventional offerings like latte's, breakfast bagels (with homemade strawberry preserves!), sandwiches, and homemade soup...but it's the confections that are the stars of the show! I encourage you to treat yourself, and your friends, to some "Baked in Dewey" treats! Baked is on the north end of Dewey--only a mile from downtown Rehoboth--in the group of shops across the street from Starboard--next to Scully's and Gary's. (It also happens to be just around the corner from my tiny beach cottage!) The shop is the culmination of a long term dream for Pam and Wendy--the friendly proprietors. They plan to be open every day through the holidays, closing for a month starting January 1st 2015 to remodel their new space. In the meantime, you can stop in for a treat and consider ordering your holiday pies from them. If you give them your pieplate, they'll return it with your pie in it! Best bakery around, hands down. The cinnamon buns are as good as my grandmother's, and the sticky buns are the best I have ever had. All are made by experienced bakers on site, and Pam is also a chocolatier. The sandwiches and crepes are delicious, and the granola in the yogurt parfait is homemade. Individual pies are heavenly--the chocolate cream has a perfect layer of solid chocolate on the bottom. Pam will also make a special birthday cake for you. Kid friendly, with chalkboard paint right on the tabletop and little buckets of chalk on each table. Dog friendly too. read more
