Stopped here late last evening for a quick bite to eat. Started off my meal with their French onion soup. It was edible, however, I wouldn't order it again. I was craving Italian food so I ordered their meat lasagna. Regrettably, my lasagna was nothing more than a heaping of ground beef, sauce and cheese. There was hardly a single noodle in this mess. I took two bites and decided I wasn't going to eat this... My waitress, who was excellent, offered me something different. I decided to go with something "safe"- spaghetti and meatballs. OMG... they screwed this up too. Ragu would have been better. Their sauce is way too sweet. I couldn't eat it...it was terrible! Nice waitress. Coffee is terrible, unless you like to drink it black and thin. Once you put a creamer in it, you can see how thin it is. What a shame. The nice waitress sent the manager out who defended it; I didn't ask for that or complain; I asked if the coffee was fresh and she said yes and got me a "fresh" cup, when I realized the issue was the coffee simply wasn't brewed with much actual coffee. She asked if it was OK, and I was too tired to smile and fake it, and so I told her the truth. I was going to ignore this completely, except the manager decided to argue over a cup of coffee. OK, fine. That's who is running this place. They make a nice toasted bagel, but if you don't ask for cream cheese, make sure they bring you butter, so you have something to put on it. Scrambled eggs tasted funny, like they were made in a microwave. Really, I order simple. I am looking at coffee and scrambled eggs as a no-brainer at any diner. They also had really nice Christmas decorations, a little cold inside, but otherwise not that bad, if you want to go there for a dry bagel and glass of water. Was shuffled into a small waiting area, overflowing with people checking out & coming in. Waited to be acknowledged by staff. Finally, showed to a uncleared table. After waiting for it to be cleaned. The waitress stomped to the table, never uttered a greeting, just stood and said "ready yet". I asked if I could have a minute to look at the menu, she came back several times within 5 minutes, asking each time "figure it out yet?" I just quickly felt like I had to order immediately. I ordered 2 eggs over medium with toast. I was brought 2 eggs that were close to raw. I finally tracked her down, when I explained the eggs were really under cooked, she stomped over to inspect them and said "whatta want me to do?" Obviously she couldn't figure it out. I then just ordered 2 pancakes, when I went to spread the butter I found a really long gray hair. I have short dark hair. The waitress was furious, did she think I planted it? Why would I? At that point I was so grossed out. She demanded it wasn't her hair. Ummm ok? The whole place screamed white trash. We felt out of place and not wanted because we didn't drive a big loud truck. We stopped by Baker's for breakfast/brunch as we were passing through Dillsburg on a road trip on a Sunday. There was a 20-25 minute wait so we sat at the bar. It had a cute diner feel and ended up being comfortable for us. Being from out of state, I wanted to try their Cream Chipped Beef. It was good but one of my friends who also ordered it and has had it from various restaurants felt like it lacked some flavor. I thought the homefries with mediocre and somewhat greasy. While we didn't order desert, we sat in front of the desert counter and the many options all looked amazing! I would highly recommend stopping by if you have a sweet tooth. MOST RUDE OWNER EVER We were served our meal and then waited 10 to 15 minutes for condiments that we needed for the meal. So one of us went to the kitchen door to ask for the condiments So we could eat because the food was already cold when it got to us and was just getting colder. Then the waitress never came back for drink refills or to give us napkins. When we were finishing eating the owner of the Diner came over and berated us for having gone to the kitchen door to get condiments. We explained that we did not enter the kitchen just asked for the condiments and he wouldn't let up and became extremely rude and insulting. I told him I couldn't eat my sandwich without the Mayo and then like a little coward he insulted me, said he didn't care and mumbled as he quickly walked away. I've been to many a diner and this isn't a diner: The quality of the food was subpar. The service: "eh". I had the cheeseburger. My niece had children's spaghetti and a side salad. Burger came out with a bag of chips (not anything homemade). The bun left much to be desired - wasn't soft. They'd forgotten the tomato. When the waitress was taking our order, she almost wrote down a $9.00 Caesar salad when all my niece wanted was a side salad. They forgot to offer my niece the drink that came with her meal. It's been over 20 years since my last visit to Baker's so it was time to check in. I should've gone to Sheetz instead. Walking in, let's just say, who in their right mind would put that guy at the door to welcome customers? I almost couldn't believe how rude he was. I knew I was eating Sysco food ahead of time so I didn't expect much in terms of quality ingredients but plain and simple, my food was gross. The $12 breakfast platter comes out cold with the whitest most underwhelming sausage patty you've ever seen, and the only thing that seemed cooked were the "home fries" that tasted like they were prepared in the same grease as some sort of fish special from days past. I want to vomit just thinking about the taste these 15 hours later. My waitress was the only redeeming aspect of my visit and the only reason it's not a 1 star review. She was helpful, pleasant enough, and attentive. The reason I'm logging this experience is because I'm still queasy from the food and the host was truly horrible. We stopped at Baker's on our way through Pennsylvania. Let me start by saying the diner is extremely clean and spacious. Our sever was very friendly and polite. However, the food is subpar. My husband ordered breakfast and his eggs were over cooked but still edible. My open face turkey sandwich was cold and covered in a yellowish gravy that was definitely not turkey gravy (as advertised). Our we've tried to rectify the situation by sending the manager over. The manager was unfriendly and uncaring to the fact my meal was inedible. At the end of the meal our server came with the bill and advised that the manager would not take my meal off (even though I had not eaten one bite). read more

Pretty basic diner food that you'd expect from a small town. Breakfast is probably their speciality - omelettes being my favorite and their home fries are great. I have been disappointed with several of my meals here (salads mostly), but if you stick to what they do best, you'll be satisfied. I have gone to Baker's Diner over a period of several years. The food is consistently good, the atmosphere is pleasant and the service is great. I often get a wrap and my wife is very fond of their turkey club sandwiches. I wanted to praise two items which may be humble but which are truly excellent here. I had the best vegetarian vegetable soup I have ever had when I was there last week on one of my frequent trips to Gettysburg. The soup was filled with vegetables cooked exactly to the proper point and was seasoned delightfully. Cream-based coleslaws tend, in my mind, to be too creamy, indifferently seasoned and use cabbage of questionable firmness. The coleslaw that I had when I was there last week was made with perfectly cut cabbage in a base it was sufficient but not sloppy and with the perfect touch of seasoning. Vegetable soup and coleslaw are certainly minor players in a total meal. However, when done to the level they reached here, they deserve special mention. read more

We had never been here before. It was dinner time, everything looked fine from the outside. Our waitress Shellie had a negative attitude right from the time we began our order. During the course of the meal she brought a wrong item out without apologizing or attempting to make it right, she rolled her eyes and complained about making a hot chocolate, she put some of our items down on the table deliberately a lot harder than she should have. When we complained, she lied to the owner claiming that we cussed at her. Whatever was bothering her that day should not have been taken out on her customers. We were disappointed that the owner seemed to be taking up for his waitress rather than understanding and accepting our concerns. Several other staff members treated us nicely so we tipped them instead of her. 4 stars for food, 1 star for the owner, 0 stars for Shellie. Overall the experience is 1 star. read more

We stopped here randomly, as it was later than we usually eat and incredibly hungry. Thank goodness we were hungry because the amount of food you receive is more than expected. I tried the chicken croquettes, which came with mashed potatoes, plus two extra sides which I chose broccoli salad and chicken gumbo. Croquettes were massive, hand patted and super fresh bursting with fresh parsley and smothered in gravy. My boyfriend got the breakfast sampler, eggs over easy, bacon, toast, home fries and French toast topped with banana. His plates overflowed and he said it was the best bacon he has ever had. I don't think we ate for 12 hours or more. Needless to say, and sadly, that we did not have room for the amazing selection of desserts by the Pennsylvania Bakery. Lesson learned. Save room for dessert and come hungry. This was probably the best "diner" food I ever had and we will be back to sample more of their menu in the near future. read more

While I understand all businesses are short staffed, it doesn't take extra time to welcome your customers, smile at any time, or kindly show manners instead of acting like any request is putting you out. The food was good but service was extremely poor. When asked what they had for dessert we were told that there wasn't a menu so we could just go look up front at the case. Now, even though that was weird, it would be doable if the customer could determine what the desserts are. Once I spoke to the owner he claimed they are understaffed and apologized while making excuse after excuse. Sadly his tactic didn't leave me with a feeling of appreciation. Due to this we will take our future business to other restaurants that are short staffed but are still willing to wear a smile and display common manners. read more

When it was time for dinner order I ordered the boneless marinated chicken breast. She took the menu from me and had to look at it before writing it down. She asked about soup or salad. None of the soup choices she could remember sounded appealing so I ordered a salad with oil and vinegar dressing. She asked if I wanted some bread which I said yes to and she walked away never asking what sides I wanted. I figured that maybe there were some standard sides? She came up behind me a few minutes later and asked me if I wanted some cole slaw or pickled beets with the dinner. I asked about mashed potatoes and she mentioned something about hoping something cold would suit me as she already put the order in as I had said that I did not want sides???? A little while later the chicken breasts cane out with a bowl of mashed potatoes. I guess maybe she also decided I didn't want the salad and bread I had ordered??? I was tired and just ket it go. When finished she asked if I wanted more tea and when I said no just put the check down. No offer of coffee or dessert at a place named Bakers??? Bakers diner is a fine establishment. The service was friendly and the serve time was pretty quick! The food wasn't bad at all-- I did enjoy it very much-- but the omelette was a tad dry and didn't have very much cheese in it. Don't let the 3 star review deceive-- I'd definitely go back. It's just hard for me to give a diner four or more stars unless the food was above and beyond, which typically doesn't happen at ANY diner in my experience. Love Baker's, but unlike most people from Dillsburg, I don't go enough! This time I tried the creamed chipped beef on french toast which I then dipped in syrup. So good! I wasn't that hungry because of a big lunch, so this was the perfect dinner meal. I opted for the french toast because I wanted thicker bread and the toast didn't get soggy at all. I've never had it the traditional way on regular toast, so next time I'll get that, maybe with some scrambled eggs... This is a new favorite! read more

What a wonderful surprise. Serious food for hungry people. I had a Monte Cristo it was excellent but what surprised me was the Wedding Soup!

the management and staff at baker's diner are the singlehandedly most ill-mannered human beings I have ever had to deal with. The manager called my fiancé and I both d*cks while walking to the kitchen after we requested the bill when we found old crusty food on our silverware and in our drink cups. The busboys were pointing at us and talking badly about us in Spanish while giving us both the meanest mugs you could imagine (heads up, busboys - you're not the only ones who can speak & understand Spanish!) We both ordered a salad with our meals- I got mine almost instantly while my fiancé never received his. We called the manager over, and my fiancé pointed out the dirty silverware to him. His "solution", just like with the crusty cup, was to simply replace it. We nicely explained to him that we had lost our appetites and no longer wanted our food, but would gladly pay for the bill anyway. His response? "Well we already made the food, just take it." We explained that we did not want the food, we just wanted to pay and go elsewhere. Not wanting to cause a scene, we simply agreed to have it boxed up to-go. As the manager went to the kitchen, he threw my fiancé's silverware on the floor while swearing and talking badly about us. All in all, if I were you, just go to wendy's. Nice Stop on Route 15! Baker's diner is a nice place to stop for a meal if you are driving on Route 15. It is a typical diner layout with a pretty typical diner menu. The staff is very friendly and knows the menu or can find out quickly if they don't know the answer to your menu questions. My only complaint is not enough vegetarian options. But there are a few and we liked almost everything we got. We had house made french onion soup. Very tasty, but not much actual broth as it is load with onions, bread and cheese. Not much broth is not a complaint, just an observation. I really liked the soup. We also had the spinach feta pie in phyllo dough that came with a Greek salad. Again very tasty. The spinach pie is huge! Much larger than what I excepted. There was a lot left over. The Greek salad was what you would expect and everything was very fresh and tasty. Our only complaint was with the pirogies which were deep fried. They were fine, but we prefer not deep fried. If I'm passing this way again I would stop here and I would recommend it, especially if you are not a vegetarian as you will have loads of choices. We stopped here on April 14, 2017 while driving through the area. We thought it would be a quick, family friendly establishment with better food than fast food. Service was ok. Drinks were refilled quickly. Ambiance is standard diner. I ordered fried shrimp with broccoli and green beans, my husband got fish and chips, and the kids ordered spaghetti. The food was canned. All of it. It takes talent to make food this flavorless and uninspired. I have tasted better at nursing homes. The broccoli was limp and mushy, the beans were completely flavorless, and the shrimp was something frozen from a decade ago. Should have gone to Wendy's for half the price. read more

Tried to stop for dessert one night (@ 9:30pm)waitress looked at our table 3 times & didn't come over to ask for even drink orders. She went to the back on the last time and didn't come out or send someone over - we waited a couple of minutes to see if someone would come over and nothing. Ordered chicken croquettes and the outside was warm but took a forkful of the interior of the croquette and took a bite of an actual chunk of ice?? Waitress took it back to be "fixed" which took another 15 minutes. Meanwhile my husband got done with his meal. Manager came over to find out why my meal had been taken away and I told him. He apologized but never saw him again. Waitress came out with my food eventually and the check for the full amount(never offered to deduct my meal). She apologized and said "new cooks". By then I was full and took it to go. Horrible way for the manager to handle it, or not handle it. Hope I don't get food poisoning!! 5/26/23. Also I had the cream of crab soup while I was there, never had cream of crab soup made of solely imitation crab, just gross subpar food. Always upset with this restaurant. They always miss the mark. Our pickup order was over 20 minutes late and then they served me what they call "chicken pot pie" Do not order it. It is NOT a pie. There is no pie crust. It's chicken and potatoes...a filling at best. No vegetables. I've never been more upset with this place. If you're going to serve chicken and potato filling, at least put it in your fine print. read more
