The lady upfront is very rude and disrespectful. She acts like you bother her when you ask her questions. The food tasted horrible! French fries tasted fishy...yuk and the burger had a weird taste. I didn't come back or complain because clearly they don't care. The service was really good but they lied about that kool-aid being sweet and the internet lied about the bologna sandwich being good and I lied to myself about the crab leg boil being good. Unsweetened kool-aid. The bologna sandwich looked cool but I didn't look at enough reviews because there should have been some tomatoes, mustard or some kind of sauce and a pickle on there. The bologna tasted great it just lacked more flavor. Much needed flavor. Nobody told me to get a boil. I just tried it because it was there and I wanted crab legs. No flavor. Didn't even smell seasoned. The first bite was weak and the rest of the bites were weaker. I drove over 30 minutes for that. Something would have to change drastically in regards to taste for me to change this review. read more

Got the bakers cheeseburger...it came out so wet, a lot of mustard, so many pickles!! I had to take off 9 pickles. The fries were ok, needed salt. Disappointed that they don't have milkshakes. The salad was very good. I wouldn't come back for the burgers but for the salad. read more

Burgers and fries are always great...ALWAYS. Portion sizes are phenomenal...especially with their fries. Get out of your car and walk up to the window ambiance, they take your order, then wait and listen for your order over the speaker. They staff are friendly and service is fast.... Yelp 100 - #20 March 2023 This was my first visit to Baker's Drive In and I wasn't impressed. I was torn between Whataburger and Baker's and ultimately chose Baker's. During my visit their fryer was not working , so I wasn't able to order the tater tots featured in their photos. However, I did order a Texas Double and a BLT. I'm happy I went with two options because their BLT was delicious. I enjoyed the toasted bread and the flavors were there. However, the Texas Double did not deliver. Next door getting a windshield replaced and this place was super convenient over the lunch hour. I ordered the Jefe Steak Finger basket. The food was hot, fresh and delish. The amount of fries was plentiful and I do appreciate being over fed vs under fed. The service was good. She was nice, sweet and professional. Also when my food was ready she flagged me over. If fried and fast food is your thing this is a good place. The food was tasty but was not unique or anything different than what you would expect. read more

Are you kidding me! For as long as we've lived in Alvin, we've been going to this "* Dive" and loved every minute of it. It's been an American original. Food is always love shakes fries. But something has changed under his new ownership. The front of the shop is messy with handwritten notes. They can't understand English so they hand you the menu to point at what you want. Very disappointing. These shops need to be run by somebody who is culturally aware of the significance. They play in the community. I cannot say the same for current ownership. 5 Stars for a run-down place open since 1954 you ask? Yes! I've been driving past this place for 40 years and its always looked the same. Like its 100 years old. I noticed the sign today said open since 1954. So, its older than me. I had already eaten lunch and was going to an appointment when I passed it. I thought I need to go there before it closes for good. I decided to stop on my way back, walk up to the window and determine if there was something I could get, without eating a whole meal. It was then I spotted a soft serve machine in the back, Perfect! So I ordered a cone she said $1 and I gave her a $2 bill for tip.She had never seen a 2 dollar bill which always brings a smile I left happy that I finally stopped after 40 years! It's good to see that someone had a homestyle turkey burger on the menu in McKinney. After 5 years of hearing my co-workers talking about this place and never thinking they would have something I could eat....I thought I'd look over their menu. To my surprise, there was/is a turkey burger on the list of items. Shockingly, I decided to make the trip. I walked up and placed my order. Once I got my bag and made the trip back to the office, I got out of my car and noticed a very pleasant sighting....GREASE on my bag! This took me back to the days when I used to eat beef. Needless to say, I'm sure i looked like a little kid as I smiled, carrying my bag across the parking lot. Finally, I made it inside and sat down to eat my burger. Each bite was very good, and I ended up eating there 2 days in a row. Needless to say, I will be back again, and I'm also included in the group lunch trips to Baker's now! read more

It's been a year or so since I visited Baker's, and I hate to say it, but Baker's, in my opinion, has changed and it's for the worst. The hand made patties are gone and the fries are now served with some type of seasoning salt. The burger wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as before. In my 19years of living in McKinney, Baker's was always consistently good and fresh. Why did they have to change what made them famous? Good luck with your seafood boils and fried rice. Great Ole' Fashion good burgers and shakes w/great customer service! This was my first time visiting as I had a craving for some chilli-cheese fries. I hadn't had any in years. Looked up some reviews and decided to give this place a try. I ordered a Texas cheeseburger, Turkey burger, 2 chilli-cheese fries, and a large shake to go. Got my order, drove home, washed my hands, took my shoes off, and took a bite of the burger. Whew...my eyes literally rolled in the back of my head it was so good!! And...the chilli-cheese fries where all of that as well. The most impressive thing though to me was the size and taste of the Large strawberry shake. Their shakes are what a large is supposed to be! Ok I wanted a bologna sandwich, and I googled bologna sandwich in my area and this place came up. I want them for a pulled up I was like damn this place is a dump but it's been open since 1954 and it's the same building all the way. When I ordered the sandwich the lady was super nice and very nice. I also ordered a corndog for my hound dog that was with me and it was a little pricey at $4.99 but I guess he liked it he ate it all. I will be back for the bologna sandwich because it's a good 1 inch thick sandwich and I asked him to burn it for me and they done a great job just like my mama would've done. read more

Wow. Talk about an old-fashioned drive in! Really tasty and really a classic place to stop. I ordered the fried bologna sandwich (because why not?) and a small chocolate shake. The sandwich was HUGE. Think a slice of bologna the thickness of a hamburger. Whoa. It came dressed with mustard, lettuce, onions and tomato. The shake was thick and slightly malty in flavor. Everything was super-filling (overly so, actually) and incredibly cheap. I think I paid $6.50 for both. Amazing all around. Good to know: You park and walk up to the window to order. While I hate giving bad reviews, things need to be honest on here. I've seen way too many over-hyped reviews on Yelp, and I refuse to be part of it. I know this place from way back. The concept is a real throwback to old times and I was hoping to score big based on the reviews. Unfortunately, it appears to have slid considerably downhill. Burger was OK, but nothing to brag about. Meat was sort of mushy and flavorless. Fries seemed to have been cooked in old oil and tasted off. It's a rarity to catch fried mushrooms these days (Remember TGI Friday's in it's heyday?), so I decided to try them. Forget it - terrible! Decent Shake to drink, which helped calm my angry stomach after eating here. Would like to go back and try their fried Baloney Sandwich but not so sure anymore. Today I've had my last Baker's burger. I've been a loyal customer since 1969. I've eaten there ever couple of weeks and brought friends and family there for as long as I can remember. The burger I got there today was so dry I could barely swallow it. There was enough lettuce on it for at least 3 additional burgers. It had no flavor and all you could taste were the pickles. If you blink while driving down highway 5 you will miss it. It is an old timey drive-in where you have to get out of your car and place your to go order at the window. This place screams Mckinney! It is loved and a back bone of this city. If you are craving an awesome burger, chili cheese tots, and a milk shake this place has it all and it is good! You can see right through the ordering window and you can tell it is old but super clean. The frito chili pie is the best in Mckinney. The entire time I was pregnant with my second kiddo I craved this place daily. It is that good. Get out of your comfort zone and try a Mckinney staple. You won't regret it. read more

I never had been here before but had heard about it. The website doesn't show too many pictures, but the burger pics behind the website info looked great. I was greatly surprised when my burger came out with this tiny frisbee of meat. There was zero flavor and the meat was so cooked it was almost like a cracker. This place is great. We have been coming here for years. The people are always so nice and the food is consistently good along with being reasonably priced. Some of our favorites are the fried bologna sandwich, the steak sandwich, and cheese tots. And this is going to sound crazy, but the Dr Pepper here is incredible. I'm serious. There's something different (sweeter) about it. It's almost like a Dublin Dr Pepper but from a fountain drink. A couple of newbie tips: Tell them how you like your burger--all the way to the pickles, tomatoes, mayo, mustard, etc. It will be exact! The giant fries are pretty big. Enough for 3 people so easy to share. Ask!! There were a few things on the menu that aren't clear from the name, and all of them sounded great! Talk to the staff!
