Normally one of favorite places to go but the brunch was sad. Avocado toast was so thin the avocado was spread on as thin as butter. Added the "2 hard boiled eggs" only to get one egg that was quartered. Hopefully just a new staff in the kitchen but just in case, don't order the avocado toast. You will leave sad and hungry. The humus and pimento cheese were on point and tasty.

Now this is what a brunch should be!!!! Start of with the ambience - Lazy Sunday morning right when Local Yocal opens, you have the entire dining space to yourself and with the soft music playing in the background , it almost takes you back to Mayberry of Ron Howard's town! Upon that, we had the most wonderful server named Yaniola with whom had a most wonderful conversation while she took our orders. Now about the wonderful brunch we had ! We have been waiting to have bone marrow dish here for some time now and today we had our wish fulfilled. It was in one word - scrumptious !!! With that we ordered a Mimosa and Bloody Mary with Belvedere vodka which complemented our meal well. For our mains, we order the Brisket Hash and the Brisket Benedict! They were both made from the freshest of ingredients and the tastiest of brisket we have ever consumed for breakfast. Upon that, the house BBQ sauce was perfect and took the dish to another level! We left happy and with some leftovers looking for a cozy place to snooze and reminisce the wonderful meal had , for the rest of the weekend!

I will say, I was guilty of over looking this place when I was looking for somewhere to go for my birthday dinner. The name gives of casual dinner vibes, and I was looking for something a little nicer. I'm glad a friend recommended it because this place was perfect. It's a great place for groups of date night. The food was good. Steak was cooked to perfection, the cornbread is delicious, as was the loaded mac and cheese. Service was good and staff was friendly.

We stopped by Local Yocal on a lazy Saturday morning after the farmers market! This spot is a little outside the downtown McKinney area but just close enough for convenience so if you're looking to avoid the crowds it's definitely a good spot! The interior was super cozy with a warm southern charm. Plenty of space especially for Saturday brunch! The food was delicious! I had a short rib grill cheese that was mouth watering and utterly delicious! The short rib was tender and moist! The aus ju that came with it was definitely on the saltier side so beware before you dip you sandwich. My husband got the brisket eggs benedict. The hollandaise was made perfectly and the potatoes were delicious! The brisket seemed a little dry and lacking. Overall we'd definitely be back to explore more of the menu and cocktails!

Had lunch here. Our waitress Francis was friendly and helpful. My husband had the Pork ribs and brisket, with potato salad and coleslaw. The ribs were dry and chewy they obviously had been sitting around too long. The Brisket was delicious! Potato salad was delicious, coleslaw ok I had the country fried steak, with Garlic mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. I loved my meal everything was delicious and the steak was tender. We also decided to try the house-made potato chips with " smoked onion dip" Potato chips were fresh and great could use some salt, dip was a disappointment, so I took home and added my own seasoning to Eat later with the chips ! Overall it's a 3 because of the ribs , when you are a Bbq place in Texas ribs should be chewy and tough in my opinion

I have to say the service was top-notch. I made last-minute reservations, and they were able to take us in. I told them it's my husband's birthday ; they had a card with handwritten birthday wishes, which I think is fantabulous! Shout out to the reception and our server, Lorraine; she is on it! The vibe of the place is very welcoming and lively. I ordered the chef's special, and it didn't disappoint; the blue cheese on the steak was spot on! I also love the macaroni and cheese with the chili; it seemed to complement perfectly. My husband loves the chicken-fried steak; he said it's the best one he 's had yet. Garlic mashed potatoes were also scrumptious. I forgot to take a picture of the flourless chocolate cake, but it also tasted great! We really had a great time and it was a hands down 5 star experience!

Service: Amazing! I appreciate that Local Yocal was able to accommodate a huge party of 12 people with grace. Our waitress came by often and made sure we were all doing okay! She also was able to split the bills between parties, which we were all so grateful for! Food: I absolutely LOVED the grain salad bowl! It was full of fresh ingredients and packed with flavor! I would definitely order it again! The Shrimp and Grits were great! I loved the big shrimps! They did not skimp out! I was disappointed with the BBQ appetizer platter! The BBQ was good, but there are some other great local BBQ places that I personally prefer more!

Love Local Yocal. Great spot across from downtown. We got the onion dip, steaks, and split some of the sides. The mashed potatoes were the best!

    Hummus with Grilled Local Pita

I had the pleasure of visiting Local Yocal BBQ and Grill recently and was incredibly impressed! This restaurant has been on my list to try for a while and I was not disappointed. It is located in the heart of downtown McKinney and has a modern, rustic interior with both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant also features a replica of a real prohibition style bar, along with over 250 types of bourbon. To begin out evening, we ordered a bourbon with bitters, orange and cherry as well as a mocktail by request. Our waiter had told us that the bartenders are incredibly talented and would be able to put something non-alcoholic together for me. This mocktail ended up being excellent! It was a perfect mix of cranberry, pinapple, pomegranate and orange. I loved it! For our appetizers, it was very difficult to choose. We ended up ordering the Smoked Red Pepper Pimento Cheese, Hummus and the Hydromain Caesar Salad. I absolutely loved the pimento cheese, it was just the right amount of spiciness and came with some excellent sourdough toasts. The hummus was also delicious, however the grilled local pita was a little more bland. The caesar salad was one of my favorite caesars I have had in a while. It came with creamy lemon dressing and sourdough croutons. The appetizers were all perfect! For our entrees, we ordered the 44 Farms NY Strip 12 oz and the Ribeye 20 oz steaks. These were both perfectly cooked to their requested doneness of medium well and medium rare. They also came along with 3 sauces, the Cabernet Demi, Chimichurri, and Horseradish Crema. I thoroughly enjoyed each of these with the steaks, especially the chimichurri sauce. Overall, the steaks were great for their price point and I truly loved the smoked taste and delectable texture of them. For our side, we ordered the LOYO Mac N' Cheese, which is their macaroni and cheese with Wagyu beef bacon. This was under their 'Favorites' on the menu, and I absolutely see why. This was my favorite dish of the night! The pasta shells were perfectly creamy and paired amazingly with the beef bacon and green chiles. If you're going to order anything, please get this! We also had the Roasted Beets with Texas Goat Cheese and Smoked Pecans. This was also a perfect side for our steaks and so delicious, especially the goat cheese. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and our waiter Mason made it a great night! Local Yocal is a new favorite of mine and I cannot wait to come back!

    Chicken Fried Steak

This was our second visit to Local Yocal. Four of us visited. We had mixed reviews. We all agreed that our food was fresh and tasted great. The variables came with size of portions. The chicken fried steak plate is huge while the roasted chicken breast plate is more like a small appetizer than a meal. If you are a light eater, go with this one. The YOLO Mac-n-cheese topped with chopped brisket is a meal in itself. The shrimp and grits was an average portion and they do allow you to substitute with grilled shrimp, if that's your preference. The service was friendly and attentive. Our waitress took time to answer our questions and offer suggestions. The food service seemed a bit slow, but we did visit on a Saturday around 7pm so we didn't see it as a problem. The ambiance is themed to the local history and well thought out. It's not too loud to have a table conversation but not so quiet as to feel solemn. Seating is all comfortable, table or booth. Great job on the booths though y'all. They are roomy and well lit. We will be asking for a booth again next time.

    Health-Nut Grain Bowl

I was debating between 3 and 4 stars and settled on 4, let me tell you why. Local Yocal is in a great location. The service is very friendly and does a great job attending to their guests. The overall layout of the restaurant is perfect for a date night or family dinner. If you're going to put "BBQ" in the name of the restaurant when Hutchins is down the street, you better bring it with the BBQ sampler plate. It was in fact, brought. The brisket and smoked sausage were tremendous. For main courses, my wife ordered the health-nut grain bowl w/ steak skewers. The bowl was good, the steak was cooked perfectly. I ordered the wild caught mkt special which was swordfish with carrot risotto. I'm not going to say I didn't enjoy it. I will say that I've been here before, and you're making a mistake if you don't order a steak or literally anything else but fish. Ordering fish and risotto at a BBQ and grill place was more my mistake.

I am not usually a dark beer guy but the server talked me into their schwarzbier and I ended up ordering a second one. If you are into porters and stouts they have you covered, and if you lean lighter there is plenty on the board too. The food held its own right alongside the beer. I went with the burger and it hit exactly the way a good pub burger should, juicy with a solid char and fries that actually get finished. My wife ordered the pappardelle on a recommendation from the table next to us and she was not sharing much of it, which tells you everything. We started with the chips and queso and cleared the bowl before the entrees even landed. Great vibe inside, big patio, and the service kept our drinks full the whole time. I'm not a fan of constant interruptions while eating, so that balance was appreciated. The place itself is awesome. Plenty of TVs, a great layout, outdoor patio, and a great bar area. Perfect hangout spot whether you're with family, friends, or just grabbing lunch solo. Prices are reasonable and competitive with similar spots. The downtown McKinney location is ideal and easy walking distance to other shops and restaurants, so no need to keep driving around. Food was great. The burger was juicy and flavorful even well done. The salmon was also well done with crispy edges and a slab of butter that melted right over it great flavor. Hoping that butter option is available for the steak because that's next on my list. Sides were solid too. Only thing I wasn't big on was the fries. They're super thin, so they were crispy but had a slightly hard, borderline stale texture. Just my opinion though. overall still a great experience. Definitely coming back. Burger and salmon were outstanding, customer service was great, and the atmosphere makes it a spot worth checking out with family or friends.

We love downtown McKinney and so many establishments have that southern charm, friendly service, and just love people. We always bring in a group of paying patrons. Early on we felt there was a clickish vibe, but never thought anything about it. We make friends everywhere, since we are travelers . Last few months we noticed a shift, bartender ruder, lack of service, the regulars shifting their gaze as if something was wrong. Last night ended that for us, and I'm sure they will be thrilled. Our bonus son chose to come here for his celebratory event. We invited a variety of people we knew, local talents, professionals, and family. Hateful comments about having a few balloons and party hats and how "you BETTER clean all that UP, I'm not doing it." We were treated with disdain. No service, each person had to get our own menu when we were ready to order, , and silverware after food was served, no one took our drink orders, when we went to the bar-our tabs were closed after each drink order. The bartender, Chevon, (who is always there) was rude and ugly to our whole group and to those she didn't even know was in our group. The new DJ, (Shawn) skipped over our friend twice. Chevron (bartender) who didn't know the person she was speaking to was my sister, said "I hate that guy, all he sings is rock songs." I mean... it karaoke. And that guy she's talking about has been bringing a group of people here for over a year. So carry on the "high school drama" there are a ton of places in McKinney that are lovely and welcoming. When you are hateful to singers, doctors, nurses, business owners, and veterans... that news will travel fast. And as rude and ugly as this review is, it's not near as rude or ugly as we were treated, individually and as a group. If you are gonna be bias to people, you don't need to be serving them. It's sad, because I know Karen and what Spoons means to her and her family. I hope they clean house and start over in the back. FYI (Shawn was a really nice DJ, he was so kind to people celebrating others.) But other than that, I wouldn't recommend The Garage for any new Collin County resident, any bridal party, bachelor party, or group celebrating anything... you can DM me and I'll give you a personal list of plenty of places to go. Many of them walking distance.
