It was very busy upon arrival but we were seated rather quickly. Much sooner than the stated 25 min wait time. Waiter did not hear us order our second appetizer. But he brought it after we mentioned it. We waited over an hour to get our meal. Ordered at 7:05 and it's 8:10 and still do not have it. By this time on a Monday it was clearing out. We asked the waiter twice during this time and he said they were backed up in the kitchen but it would be out soon. We finally gave up waiting and asked for the manager. Come to find out the waiter was just wrong they lost the order and were never working in it. For this reason I rate the service as bad. You just don't lie to customers saying "they're working on it". So the manager ended up not charging us for our meal. Which after and 1.5 hour wait was the right thing to do. As far as the food goes. It was pretty good - my daughters really enjoyed their meals. My wife and I thought they were good. Just not great. Ramen noodles at $16 a bowl make for an expensive meal. I don't think ramen places are worth it. read more

From the moment we walked in the smells were amazing! As we walked to our table I couldn't help but notice how yummy all the different meals looked. Bakudan Ramen is AMAZING! Every time I go I get the same thing and it tastes as good as the first time. I usually order the Shoyu Spicy ramen and it has just the right level of spice that gives it an enjoyable kick. The Bakudan Breeze is for those who like refreshing tropical drinks. I'm a sucker for anything with coconut or pineapple and this drink has them both. Not pictured I've tried, the spicy poke nachos and the spicy edamame and if you can't already tell, I'm a big fan of anything spicy. 10/10 experience and the ambiance makes everything even more enjoyable! Update: This time I tried one of their bowls. My wife had the bulogi bowl and I had the curry chicken katsu bowl and an appetizer of edamame. The edamame is covered in salt. Not a fan on that. The correct way is sprinkle of sea salt, not encrusted. The Bulogi bowl was ok, but the beef had a smokey taste to it. Another just ok meal. The Curry Katsu chicken was a bit better and the salad was better than the katsu. The curry was a bit overbearing for curry and I love curry, but this one was like when someone puts too much garlic in something. Yes there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Salt on the edamame and the curry which was a drizzle of gravy, which is normal, but the curry was way too concentrated. I guess that is the reason for the salad to cleanse my palette. The stafff deserves a 5 star review for each time I have eaten there. So far the food, for the price, is average for Japanese/Fusion/Ramen. The decor is nice, and like I have posted previously, feels like a bar, which isn't a bad thing, I have had amazing bar food. I have seen so many amazing reviews and maybe I have a high bar. As this is the second time here. I can say it is an average place but you are paying for the service you get. The food is secondary for us. read more

I ordered spicy miso and it wasn't much flavorful so I ordered the spicy paste and it made it better. Men(noodle) is different. I walk in and the host is on his phone, I genuinely thought he was a customer until he put his phone away and asked me how he could help me. In terms of ambiance, the music is VERY loud. I could barely hear the staff speak because it's so loud in there. And maybe pick a better playlist that fits the vibe of the restaurant better. I'm happy that San Antonio is introducing more and more Asian food options. Here, I've tried the garlic tonkatsu ramen, the spicy miso, and the takoyaki. The garlic ramen has a flavorful broth. The meat is well marinated and cooked to a proper wellness. I'm pretty pleased with this. The spicy miso was fairly good. The broth was tasty but not as full bodied as the garlic ramen broth and it featured well marinated meat and bok choy. The takoyaki was pretty good. Not bad at all. First time bringing my mother to this location and the both of us were absolutely fascinated by the upbeat and ambient energy when we first walked in. Music is modern, diverse, and not too loud. I was able to enjoy a long conversation during our meal and it was just amazing. The food? 15/10, extra points given for Jose and the cook's genuine concern to check into the nutritional (sodium) content of some of their items before ordering. Met a friend for lunch on Friday as we both have been wanting to check this location out esp. since it's closer to both of us vs. The Rim location. We were there during the lunch hour and there were plenty of tables available. I was quickly seated by the main aisle but wanted a table by the window along a bench seat as it was roomier. You know, gals and their purses need room too but mainly because I didn't like my back to the door. The waiter was nice enough to wipe down the table which I assume had previous patrons who recently left. It was nice to see the rice paper partitions between tables in some areas so it added some privacy. There were a couple of booths on the opposite side that had cozy booth type tables. The kitchen is visible and in the same place as the old IHOP. Decor is modern and lively, there's a bar and the music was pumping at a higher volume so I was hoping I could hear my friend once she arrived. It seemed the music was turned down a bit and we were able to hold a conversation after awhile. Our waitress took our drink orders which we both ordered hot tea since we've got a cold spell and in the 40s. It came as a Green Tea Bag with a small white cup that had hot water and a small saucer with a lime and lemon slice. The waitress also brought over a ceramic hot water bottle that reminded me of what they serve for Hot Saké. She warned us that it was hot and to be careful it was SUPER HOT to the touch so I had to wrap a couple of red cocktail napkins around it as a sleeve in order to pour it into our cups. I've had hot Saké in containers similar to that but they're manageable and tempered but this wasn't. It was tricky maneuvering as it was hot and a bit heavy to pour. I almost asked for a cloth napkin which would've been sturdier. I think they should invest in teapots with tempered handles which are safer for customers. Had it slipped, there would've been hot water spewing on our table and possibly our laps. I decided to order the Bibimbap with Steak as my protein. It was served in a stone pot. Ingredients included white rice as a base and topped with broccoli, cauliflower, red bell pepper strips, shredded carrots, green onions, probably Sirloin steak slices, a soft egg yolk and topped with red and black sesame seeds. I asked about the BBQ Sauce and the waitress said it wasn't that smoky and that I could have it on the side. I wondered if it was their version of Gochujang so I wanted to control how much sauce was placed on. Plus, in Korean restaurants they'll usually serve it on the side. I'd say this BBQ Sauce tasted a bit like Hoisin sauce with a slight kick. As far as the Bibimbap itself, it was more of a Steak & Veggie Stir-Fry Bowl vs. traditional Bibimbap. The steak was a little chewy in some pieces, a firm cut and I had to spit out some tough pieces. It wasn't thinly sliced as in standard Bibimbap. I was missing the standard elements and flavor profiles such as Sesame Oil, Spinach, Bean Sprouts, Mushrooms, Cucumbers. And I think it needed a fried egg. I was hungry and figured I'd try their version of this dish. Funny thing was I enjoyed the flavoring in the white rice of all ingredients?? My friend ordered the Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen. I think she liked it & wanted more veggies so she was asking how my broccoli tasted so I gave her a few pieces. She ate the soup and near the bottom mentioned it was salty. That's why I didn't order the Ramen as i read & heard past reviews from friends that were served salty Ramen at The Rim location. I think the last place I had Ramen in SA was at Tenko Ramen which was SO salty that I kept adding water to the broth to try to dilute it. I guess that's why I've hesitated trying it in newer restaurants who try to switch it up vs. traditional Japanese restaurants. I'd probably come back to just try the Ramen and give it a shot as well as the Shrimp Tempura which looked glistening as the waitress passed by with an order. Our server was very attentive and checked up on us several times. She gave a cheerful thanks and goodbye from the bar when we left. There were a lot of servers so every table didn't have to wait around and the food came out quickly. Ambiance and Service was 4*. Food was 3* as far as my dish. I have yet to try their cocktails and Saké. On a positive note, at least there's an Asian Restaurant with Ramen in this shopping mall and area. read more

My wife and I had high hopes for this place. We show up on a Friday night around 8pm - packed. Not in the typical sense, but a small restaurant with several people packed in like sardines - the kind of place with too many tables and chairs for the size of the establishment. The kind of place that if you are sat at a busy walkway, people will be bumping you and squeezing between you and the person behind you while saying "excuse me" or having to find alternate paths - it was just uncomfortable. The kind of place that if you fart, the person behind you will ACTUALLY hear it and smell it. Next, the music. It's a ramen joint, we showed up and the music (Bad Bunny) was blaring and it was a struggle to have a conversation with my wife. The next song in the playlist was "Forgot about Dre" - at that point all was forgiven because you gotta crank that mother f*cker up! Now, with my "old man" gripes out of the way, I actually was pleasantly surprised. The ramen was delicious - the Garlic Tonkotsu and the Spicy Shoyu. To be honest, the Tonkotsu was better but really can't go wrong with either. Although the ramen was great, the Gyoza had much left to be desired. It was cold, hard, and was literally delivered to our table about a minute after ordering - they seemed microwaved. I don't know, I don't recommend them. The staff was great, 5 stars, the wait wasn't bad, and the ramen was good. I would definitely go again, but only if I was picking up a "to go" order to eat somewhere else. read more
