I didn't feel like cooking today so we came here. So nice to have instant delicious food to eat in. I had the #3 - 2 tacos carnitas .... Oooo so good!! Hit the spot!! Hubby today had the #1 mixed meat on 2 and then carnitas on other 2. Mmmm. But as usual he still hungry. He went back up and is trying the Putaco! Papusa fried then opened up stuffed with mixed meat ( his choice). The helper came around to see if everything was ok. That's nice. We asked for more green sauce! Yum. It wasn't busy when we came in but got busy after that. Table were filling and orders to go. Busy busy.

I'm so happy to finally have tried this restaurant! We were greeted warmly and lively music was playing. It wasn't too busy and we were able to get a seat after we made our order. My husband got park and cheese pupusas and I got a taco plate of three with chicken, asada, and carnitas. I loved how flavorful it all was and the presentation was great! The pupusas were piping hot with melting cheese, and although my husband ordered 3, he was pretty full after one. We had a good time and will definitely come back!

My boyfriend picked out this spot from my list of bookmarks in Tacoma and said he was craving papusas. I've had this place on my list for a while too so I was happy to agree and we were able to find parking nearby luckily. The exterior looks very vibrant and festive which was nice. However when you go inside, the vibes are even more festive with appropriate volume festive Latin music. The inside has a modern vibe with the wooden interior and adorned with different masks, murals, and text on the walls. There was a few tables taken and a few people ahead of us and this was consistent throughout our visit as there were people were coming to dine in or take out. Despite their small size, they are pretty spacious in terms of seating inside. The menu is concise and clear in what you will receive making it very easy to order. My boyfriend got the combo with two tacos and papusa and I got the papusa with a small rice and beans as well as a agua fresca to share. The salsa that came with the small rice and beans is spicy, even to make me feel burns on my mouth but the flavors and burn was so good. I need to ask them what that is next time cause I gotta learn the recipe and ask if other restaurants offer it. The other salsas that you usually get were okay, nothing really memorable or spicy. They do have a fridge with different glass bottled sodas, Jarritos, and much more. The service here is phenomenal too, the cashier was very friendly and courteous. The person who delivered our food was also friendly and to let them know if we needed anything else. They offered that same warm service to all those before and after us. We were really happy to get our food as we were hungry and the smell of the food was smelling so good. The papusas as well as the curtido was some of the best I've ever had. It was packed with the right amount of ingredients for both the pork and cheese and revueltas papusas. The rice and beans were plentiful for a small order of it. The aqua fresca was a watermelon lemonade (if I heard the cashier first) and the jamaica was pretty good. My boyfriend said the carne asada tacos were delicious too, not the best he's had but pretty good. The prices are super affordable and it is clear that this spot is a crowd favorite among its' community. I want to come back to try out the bowls and eat more papusas.

Out of this world good. And when adjusted for the fact it's in the PNW it's even better. The Quesadilla was crisp and flavorful, the kids burrito was highly acclaimed and the house red and green sauces were sensational. To top it off the service was warm, friendly and accommodating. Lastly, the aqua fresca was fantastic. Flavorful, friendly and affordable. 10/10 would dine here again.

First time here and the experience was nothing short of amazing. The customer service was personable and the food was next level. I will say it was a slow time for them so the gentleman at the front had more time to connect with each customer, but nonetheless the service was A1. I had the Putaco I believe a (Pupusa Taco with Carnitas) side of rice. Id return for the rice alone thats how flavorful the food was. The Salsa was the perfect amount of spice, the Taco was a great balance between crunchy and chewy.

Set on a street corner off of 6th Ave, this tiny little venue draws your eyes in from the big spacious windows and mural painted on the side wall outside. The smell of mouth watering food in the air competes with the sounds of Latin festive music. Clean looking inside, with personable hostess ordering or self-ordering kiosk. The food is flavorful and delicious, the perfect serving size to sate your hunger, without weighing down your stomach. The 3 Agua Fresca varieties are interchangeable and limitless. Highly recommend for a quick easy lunch.

No frills, just great food! There was a discussion about the best burritos in Tacoma and Balcon came up multiple times. I wasn't hungry enough for a burrito when I came in so I opted for a quesadilla - it's kinda the same thing, right? I showed up a little after noon and apparently that was the perfect time since there were only 2 tables left! Not to mention there were a lot of people waiting for their takeout orders. This is a fast casual place where you can order at the kiosk if you want or you can speak with a friendly employee. There was a little bit of a wait on food, but that's due to volume and you could tell that they were hustling. The quesadilla wasn't fancy or anything - just simple, tasty food. I'll have to do some research to see if I agree with others that this place is the best, but I definitely see myself coming back here!

A friend and I went there looking for a spot to eat and catch up with one another. The inside is really neat and clean, and the decor is simple and beautiful. There was a kiosk to order, and you could order at the counter as well. The food is extremely reasonably priced! The taste? Out of this world! We had pupusas and tacos and drinks. What a treat! And the salsa is amazing! I was so upset when the meal was over! The staff are very friendly and service is fast! I can't wait to go back. Probably today!

We've gotten take out from Balcon X twice now and it will be a regular stop on our Friday night takeout rotation from now on! The only hard part is deciding what to get because everything we've tried is fantastic. This time I had the two taco plate with one veggie and one mixed taco. The tacos were great and very different. I love the fresh corn tortillas doubled up. Such good spice levels and they stand up to the substantial and juicy fillings! The house-made red and green salsas were a great addition to the flavors. The rice and beans were both flavorful and a great addition to the plate. My dining partner had the Steak Bowl which he said was delicious and satisfying. He says he'll have it again. He isn't a fan of corn tortillas so skipped the tacos. (I'm working on it.) We also had a side of two cheese and bean pupusas which were toothsome, creamy and savory and should convert the corn-hater into a corn lover because of their texture and amazing flavor. The tangy cabbage slaw complements the taste beautifully! I recently heard a rumor that your can have a taco made on a pupusa and, if I can confirm that rumor, I'll try that next time! Everything smelled so good in the car no the way home that we forgot to take a single photo. That's a indicator of how good this food is! read more

Me and my husband wanted to try something new and as we pulled up the Restaurant had their closed sign up BUT the amazing man who was working the front register (didn't catch his name) was so kind and still offered to make our food! We got take out from this place and it was very good! We got the chicken burrito, steak burrito and the bean and cheese pupusa. Chicken burrito was unique and had a special flavor and the steak burrito was really good! More of a standard steak burrito. Both were super delicious and I would order either of them again. Omg. What a gem. I totally wish this place was here when my husband lived 5 minutes away I was able to order takeout which was a little confusing, but I eventually figured it out (use google). I got 4 pupusas (bean and cheese/ pork and cheese) with the slaw and red salsa oh my gosssh. To die for. These tasted just like the ones my aunt used to make when I was little and would visit her in Cali. I was skeptical when I saw the slaw because it was a different color than I'm used to (the slaw I see usually looks like coleslaw but still is pickled and has a kick to it), this one was pink but man did they prove me wrong. Even the slaw tasted the same!! I also got my husband the mini pork burrito which he said was so delicious so yay. As soon as I arrived, I was instantly greeted by this very kind gal, their bathroom is so cool, I've never seen a bathroom with a sliding door! It was very clean too which I appreciated. The whole restaurant is so so cute, small so not much space for a lot of people to eat there but regardless, the food is absolutely amazing. I spent about $27 in total for 5 items. Delicious delicious food with wonderful service! The staff was nice to explain food and names to us when we came in. We tried the mix torta, tacos and a pork pupusa and WOW. The torta was the surprise hit. If you ever got the opportunity to go to El Balcon in Bremerton id DEFINITELY recommend this place. Tacoma needed some pupusas! The location has limited seating but they serve everything on to go plates so give it a shot even if they're busy. read more

Balcon has easily become our favorite place to eat. Their food is so flavorful, delicious and reasonably priced. Right before they closed the other day we decided we wanted tacos, we went in and picked up our order and put it in the fridge until we were ready to eat. When we went to eat unfortunately we had gotten the wrong order. We called the next day when they opened and were told that they needed to call someone and then would call me back. With in a few minutes the Owner, Mario, called me and apologized about the mix up and offered me a refund or offered to remake the order, whatever he could do to make it right. We asked for the order to be remade and of course everything was amazing! The hospitality this place offers and the fact that it's locally owned has made us lifetime customers! We were obsessed with El Balcon when we lived in Bremerton so I was ecstatic when I saw the sign go up here off of 6th Ave! We have tried everything on the menu and love it all. Stopped by bcs of the reviews and they didn't disappoint. The staff was so sweet and attentive. They made the experience feel very homey. Food wise, the pupusas were great. The filling, whether bean/cheese or revueltas, was great. A good mixture of the cheese and protein without skimping or overfilling. Still, the tacos were my favorite. This place is consistent and delicious. Not to mention the service is always very polite. I work at Tacoma General and order from there whenever I have a 24 hour shift. I love their pupusas and burritos. The food is filling and tasty. Highly recommend for anybody to try out. The location is also very cute inside and has a lot of nice light. read more

The first to-go order last Sunday of combo chicken + pork tacos with the addition of chicken bowl was okay...average. Their website continues to read they are closed Sundays as of today. I brought it up on my review last week. The owner thanked me for it. WELL...we gave them another try today (Saturday). We ordered to-go meals again. History

Established in 2010.

It was always a dream of ours to open our own Salvadoran and Mexican family style restaurant. When we started out, we’d make our food to family and friends, and we’d grill the meat out on our South Tacoma apartment’s balcony. The scent would carry and people would place orders to “el balcón” (the balcony in English) When we opened our first restaurant in Bremerton 2010, we named it “El Balcón” after our humble beginnings. We’ve wanted to open in Tacoma for years, and in 2021, we got the chance when the beloved Old Milwaukee Café went up for sale. We are overjoyed to return to Tacoma to serve our original community with an express version of El Balcón, our Balcón Express. Serving fresh, handmade Salvadoran and Mexican cuisine, grab-and-go style. We thank our customers for their patronage, support and spreading the word about our restaurants!

Full disclosure I'm part owner. But I also eat here several times a week. Yesterday some friends of ours who live in Issaquah invited us to their home for dinner but asked could we bring enough food for 10 people and a sample of everything on the menu. Our partner and chef did not disappoint! We brought two huge platters of everything on the menu to our friends. We ate every morsel on the platters to resounding "omg, this is sooo good" to "wow, what's this? YUM!" Kids were super happy too. It seems funny to post a review of our own place, but I was honestly touched by the care, details and love that our partners put into serving the food we serve and making special requests happen even in their busy times.
