I made Tuesday lunch reservations for myself and 3 coworkers during restaurant week. $25 for a 3 course meal (limited menu). We came on time and were sat quickly. Had great service throughout our visit. Drink orders were non-alcoholic as we were heading into work. Cat ordered the Garden Party. Menu described it as watermelon, cucumber, mint. Sounds refreshing. It was not! It was sour, tart and tasted like pickle juice. Cat was going to sip on it but when the waitress came back to see how things were, I spoke up (Cat doesn't send things back) and she got a new drink...the Red Rosie. She liked that better. Apps ordered: House Salad. Shan liked it, Jack didn't. Be warned that the dressing is a lemon vinegarette. And is blah otherwise. Don't mistake it for ranch. I had the beer cheese soup. Delicious... order a bowl. Cat got the Brussel sprouts. I tasted and liked the Asian flavors. Entrees: Jack and I got the Short Rib Grilled Cheese. It was hard to eat as hand- held, need to use silverware. It was sweet and savory. Rich and heavy. Fries were well seasoned and accompanied by garlic aioli. Loved that. Spent the rest of the afternoon in a food coma but well worth it. Cat got Just the Tips. Shan got the Pan Seared salmon. Dessert: Jack got the mango sorbet. Light and refreshing. The rest of us got the Ice Cream Sandwich. We weren't a fan of the puff pastry. Wasn't much of a sandwich since you still had to use silverware, not hand held. Ice cream had little vanilla bean specks and the caramel drizzle was yummy. Maybe put this 2 on a cookie instead?? I ordered my classic grey goose club soda lemon and lime and it came out in a timely manner and when it was gone, she asked if I needed another.. and of course I did! We started with apps.. we ordered the bread with the 2 different butters and oil chimichurri to dip the bread in (something I never knew I needed till now) and it was amazing. One of the butters was a garlicy jalapeno (?) and the other was a pumpkin butter which WAS INCREDIBLE! 10 outta 10. We also got the shredded pork nachos (also incredible) the meat was perfect, the cheese was quality and the toppings were perfect, every nacho had some toppings which is all you can ask for. We also got the bacon (this is the one MEH out of the meal), it was just pork belly haha. We also got the truffle fries with a nice lil aioli which was amazing. Typically don't go for truffle fries because they are too truffle-y but these were absolutely perfect.. and crispy but yet a warm pillow in the middle. Would definitely do again. For my main I got a shrimp caesar salad. The dressing was amazing, the croutons and the shrimp amazing but the lettuce was like.. LARGE. I had to cut it in order to eat it. Other than that.. awesome. Wow! I must say, my favorite part about this restaurant was the service. It was the best I've ever had! From the kind hostess to the fast and amazing waiter we had to even the person who walked me to the restroom, I appreciate how everyone was so nice! I brought my coworkers here for a nice team dinner. We shared the chimichurri shrimp appetizer, bread is life (which came with 3 different dips, my favorite is the oil mixed with jalapeño), and brussel sprouts. All was delicious! My dinner was the filet mignon and we ordered sharable sides: mashed Yukon potatoes and the char grilled street corn. My coworkers had the hanger steak chimichurri and prime rib eye. We all loved our meals and nothing was leftover! Dessert was the 50 shades of chocolate and tiramisu- which were huge and delightful! We loved the decor throughout and how it was dimly lit. If Baldamar isn't the best steakhouse in the Twin Cities, then it is definitely one of the top 3 in my opinion. I've been here a few times already but just happen to head back here over the weekend for brunch. They have a great brunch buffet and have a lot of great things to offer - such as the Ceasar salad station where they now make the salad fresh from scratch. The prime rib is also always really good. They also now have a pasta station where they use the big parmesean cheese wheel. Everything else they offer is great too. I wish they still had the Eggs Benedict station. Aside from the brunch buffet, you can't miss with the steak and oysters. I've had the filet mignon and porterhouse before and they are great. Always juicy and cooked the way you want it. The oysters are really good and fresh. I prefer meatier oysters but the ones I had here were good too. I recommend making a reservation as they can get busy. Pre Mother's Day lunch on Saturday. This way we could choose from the entire menu and beat the crowds. We started off with a few too many appetizers, apparently we were very hungry. We ordered - Bread is Life, Meatballs, Truffle Fries. Bread was outstanding, the meatballs were so good and the Truffle fries were fine but the others held my attention. I ordered the special which was a steak, with chimichurri sauce served on a toasted roll. It was perfectly cooked, the chimichurri was fantastic and the steak juices and chimichurri made that roll succulent with flavors. We started our meal with bread is life and they even gave me a gluten free roll so I could try all the butters and dips. We got the chilled lobster roll, so amazing and loaded with lobster! A premium steak house with some of the finest locally grass fed beef including the wagyu. Our party of eight leaned more to the sea bass and loved it. The pork chops also presented well. The calamari was perfect. And... trust the servers when they push the old fashion cocktails. Those were a hit and the variations were fun to explore. The atmosphere is a tad noisy in the main room so if a special occasion you might ask to be sat in the side room. We loved the interior design as no detail was spared. Sunday brunch at Baldamar was one of the best dining decisions I've made in a while, and all thanks to Yelp. Probably one of the few buffet style restaurants that nailed everything they offered. From the different prime cuts, pasta bars, salmon and shrimp options, to the soft and oh so yummy French toast and puff pastries, a job well done chefs! There were no complaints at all because everything had great flavor, the atmosphere was truly memorable and the service was personable -- and for that reason, a beautiful and wholesome experience was surely had. The inside is absolutely sleek and the layout accommodates for a wide variety of people. From the moment we stepped in, everything about that place just made me feel warm inside(very crucial for northern folks during the winters), as if I was in a different state, somewhere down south. Soft lighting + great music = optimal ambiance. Our server, Erik was really cool and great at small talk -- which made us feel more appreciated and less of just being a number. He explained the full rundown of how brunch works and is overall very easygoing. When I made the reservation online, I was asked if a special occasion was being celebrated, to which I chose, Anniversary. Once we were seated, there was a special letter that was made for my partner and I, wishing us a Happy Anniversary and also included a small gift ;) ... That small gesture made my girlfriend smile and in return made me feel reassured about choosing the right place to celebrate. 3 of us went to Sunday buffet. My wife and I go there specifically for the the authentic Caesar salad using egg yolk, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and of course anchovies!!! Well, this is no longer done. The guy was absolutely clueless on how to use any of the the ingredients (already put into bowls ) to make the salad. He would just load a pile of lettuce and toss it with little else. The poor guy was also working the meat carving booth which he did a great job at. Baldamar management gave him no training on this at all. For $52 plus tipping I expect a lot more than this. We will not be going back there for brunch nor do I recommend it. Excellent food, beautiful décor - 4 stars. First of all, the food is great. We started off with an order of Whiskey Smith Scallops. These were 3 giant scallops with candied bacon and various flavorful sundries - yum! Then we moved on to our entrees, a burger from the Happy Hour Menu and an 18 ounce Prime Ribeye from the Dinner Menu. We added bacon and an egg to the burger. The sauce on the burger reminded me - a lot - like McDonald's secret sauce on the Big Mac except waaay better. And the Ribeye - it was perfection. I couldn't have asked for anything better. LOW CARB: It was easy to eat low carbohydrate carnivore style at Baldamar. The steaks are sold as sole menu items, sides are separate. I didn't understand this at first but the bartender finally got it through my thick head. Enough said. Easy. My only bitch was our experience with seating. It was our first time at Baldamar. I literally called from the parking lot to check if you need reservations and to determine if there was seating available. No big deal if we didn't get in though, we had a list of 3 restaurants we'd try to visit on our way back home and Baldamar was our first attempt. Here's what I found out... Yes - you need reservations. No - there were no tables available. Yes - you can sit at the rail in the bar (not at a high top table). No problem. We don't mind the bar. So...we sat at the bar and the food was great. I know you need reservations but the restaurant was over half empty!!! I was so irritated watching the seating, I actually counted open tables in the dining room and open tables in the bar. 2/3 of the tables in the dining room were open when we arrived. And 2/3 were open when we left (about an hour and 15 minutes later). Half of the high tops in the bar were open when we arrived. And half were open when we left. So why couldn't we sit at a table? Why were we relegated to sitting at the bar when the tables were mostly empty for well over an hour? Yet there were a total of FOUR (4) employees bumbling around at the host/hostess stand and they couldn't figure this out? Tacky. Irritating. Weren't we dressed nice enough? Was it my casual style Columbia vest? Are they simply trying to act busier than they really are? Can't the staff count tables? Are they waiting for a bus load of football players to show up for dinner? Are they simply understaffed? Who knows? Overall, a good (food) experience other than the snobby seating thing. Hey, folks. Another year, another Valentines dinner with the girlfriend. I've been hearing nothing but good things about Baladamar, so why not check them out for Valentines. We ordered: 1) Surf, Surf, and Turf (Lobster Tails, Shrimps, and Bone-in Ribeye), 2) Prime Filet Mignon, 3) Caesar Royale, 4) Tuna Poke, 5) Sweet Potato Fries, and 6) Brussel Sprouts. 1) CAESAR ROYALE The Caesar Royale came out first. I'm not a fan of salads where you have to cut yourself. But no biggie. This was a really good Caesar Salad as the bacon bits and cheese bits added great flavors and textures. 2) TUNA POKE The Tuna Poke came out afterward. Man, this Tuna Poke was amazing! The Tuna was room temperature, which made the texture more delicate. The flavor was really nice and the avacado added another layer of delicate texture. I honestly would take this Poke over Poke served from actual Poke-focused restaurants. 3) SWEET POTATO FRIES The Sweet Potato Fries came out the same time as the mains. They were fried tempura style, where there's a light layer of batter/coating. These are definitely better than usual Sweet Potatoes Fries. It came with 2 sauces, vinegar and a spicy-mayo. We added ranch too, but the two that came with the fries were already solid. 4) BRUSSEL SPROUTS The Brussel Sprouts also came out the same time as the mains. These Brussel Sprouts were amazing and a must get when you're here! They were toasty, smoky, sweet, and savory. The outer layer of the Brussel Sprouts were charred and chip-like. These were the first to be gone. 5) BONE-IN RIBEYE (on the Valentines menu) The bone-in ribeye came with one lobster tail and three shrimps (called Surf, Surf, and Turf). Having a shellfish allergy, I only tried the ribeye. What can I say, it's a solid ribeye. Charred exterior cooked perfect medium rare. This ribeye has more chew on it, but again, it's still super solid. I loved gnawing the crispy meat off the bone. 6) PRIME FILET MIGNON I'm going to say it, the Prime Filet Mignon was the protein show on the table for me. Nice charred exterior, cooked medium rare. The interior was so moist and tender. I usually prefer ribeye, but tonight, the filet mignon was it. This made me wonder how their prime ribeye is like on their regular menu My girlfriend and I had a great time at Baldamar. Now I get why I hear nothing but great things about this place. My partner and I went to Baldamar for dinner for the first time last night for my birthday and it was awesome, and I don't use the term lightly. Sorry, no pictures because we just were in the moment enjoying the whole experience. We shared everything and it was more than enough food. Started with a spinach salad, nicely balanced. The ribeye was absolute perfection, no other way to put it (beautiful char, medium rare, and melt in your mouth tender). We want to go back and try the wagyu ribeye next. The additional "bling" of scallops were also perfectly cooked, pillow like, and buttery. The steak and scallops were the stars for sure, but everything else was so tasty too. Sides were the loaded twice baked potato and roasted artichokes, and we finished off the night with a massive piece of bananas foster cheesecake. We couldn't even eat all of it. It had two layers that were light and airy, and mmmm. This meal was simply amazing start to finish! I know staff don't always get a lot of praise, but our server, Chris L, was sweet, thoughtful, and attentive. Eric, the GM, was not only a good GM working the room, but he truly made us feel special and taken care of, and we're just average people out for a meal. Our conversation was fun and engaging, and I got to learn more about the steaks and about him as a person. He comes off as genuine and someone who cares about his customers like his own friends and family. So this has been one of the most positive experiences in a while. We made a trip here to try out the food and upon walking in we were greeted and seated immediately. There was no waiting or any funny business. We then sat down and were greeted again by our server Joel. Joel was ver charismatic and friendly and best of all he was a fellow foodie. He went over the menu and explained everything clearly. We got to speak to Joel a bit and loved his attitude and his customer service skills. Joel was possibly one of the best servers we have had in a long time. We started our order with the artichokes, oysters, baccon and scalopes. The artichokes were divine omg the flavor and tenderness in them were beyond what words can describe. The source was very flavorful and creamy leaving you wanting more. The portion size was good. Then came some baccon. Omg the size of it was very generous and Joel explained that it was smoked for 18 hours. The nice tender pork belly was cooked to perfection and and cheries on top with shot of bourbon that I ended up drinking instead of dipping or drizzling on my perfect swine. The oysters were described perfectly and were smooth yet delicate and had a creamy taste. There was no need for hostashish or hot sauce to kill the marvelous flavor. The scalopes were seasoned to perfection and not rubbery or hard. The presentation was as if picasso created this masterpiece and the flavors were all over the place making your senses go wild. This was all washed down with a pinot noir that was fabulous all in itself. Joel then came back to take our dinner order. We then spoke about places to eat and recomeded things to each other and were incredibly happy with him. Any server who can make an instant connection like Joel did is a master of his craft. For dinner Joel recommend a lobster resoto that had a lemony champagne sauce that was on point. The flavor didn't kill the lobster taste and it also came with a lobster tail that my other half devoured. The chef did a spectacular job with the presentation of the dish as well as the creation and the flavors. We also ordered a A5 waygu fillet that was cooked rare that when we poked it we can hear inside the steak screaming moooo. The seasoning was very simple as it should be and the sight of the meat would make you think you were in a dream by the way the marbling refected off the knife as we cut it. This was followed by a another pinot noir then came then joel came back and we told him that it sucked and to send it back lol. For desert we had the lavender creme brulee and the teramisu and a ruby port. The lavender creme brulee was creamy and well portioned. It had a taste of lavender but not strong enough to over power the creaminess of the creme brlulee. The flavors again were divine. We did not try the teramisu and got it to go. The potions were larger than expected. The ruby port went well with it and enhanced the flavors of the lavender. We spoke to Joel some more and told him how amazing everything was Joel gave us the deserts for free and we chatted for a bit. It was nice that Joel genuinely cared and spoke to us and was not in a rush. The ambiance of this place is kinda dark inside. It feels intimate but it can also be causal. The seating is very comfortable and the tables are a little small if you get the table for 2 to fit all the items you want to try. The wine list was very large and they had all types of whiskey and other libations to help you pass the night. The location has ample parking and I am adding a few photos. I apologize I didn't take photos of the steak and lobster resoto because the food was so good I was in the moment and forgot to take photos. I give this place a solid 5 stars not only because of the food but because of the fabulous service that Joel provided. We were also greeted and checked on by multiple people. One of the gentleman that checked on us seemed to be a manager and he was very friendly and made his rounds. I didn't get his name but he was amazing too and his level of charisma would make you think you were being sweet talked by casanova himself. The clientel was not as I expected. I was expecting a more snobby cliontel considering the prices but everyone seemed relaxed. The people were more business casual than elegant and the staff seemed to be like chameleons and adapted to the clientel. They are open with a special menu for their valentine week that I maybe attending and also for restaurant week they will be having some special dishes. Tomato carpaccio (refreshing hit of garden goodness) the awesome Brussels sprouts, the scallops, tuna poke and truffle fries (oh yes). Let's just say we were cooing in happiness. The service at Baldamar is consistently good. The food is great. Previously I've gotten their miso marinated sea bass which is perfection. I'm pescatarian but my hubby has enjoyed their aged steaks. My first impression entering this place is, wow! It's so classy and beautiful. We were greeted promptly and service was superb! I made reservations, which I highly recommend because this place gets busy. They're located right next to Roseville mall so there is plenty of parking. We started with an order of the dry rub wings.... GET THESE! The spices were magnificent and although I'm not a bleu cheese fan the sauce was divine. The prime rib eye cut like butter! It was tender, but had enough bite to it and was super juicy. The mashed potatoes and mushrooms paired so well with it. I ordered the prime rib sandwich. I'd give it a 6.5/10. It lacked flavor, but I enjoyed the truffle fries and the ooey gooey-ness of the sandwich. There are quite a few items I would come back to try and overall, I enjoyed my experience. I have been to Baldamar near Rosedale Center once for a birthday dinner and a handful of times for happy hour. Everything has always been fantastic and what you would expect from a more upscale steak house restaurant. The decor is stunning with a very dark, modern country chic theme. Service has always been quick and courteous with great recommendations and knowledge of the menu The food is outstanding. Steaks are prepared exactly to the temperature requested. I love the happy hour! Great selection of food and beverages at a more than reasonable price. The happy hour is available in the bar only, FYI. There is enough selection to either have a drink before dinner or just hang out at the bar and enjoy a burger, chicken sandwich, or even lobster sliders!! read more

The ambiance at Baldamar is wonderful. You have the option of indoor or patio seating weather permitting. The service was outstanding. Our server was kind enough to sweep under a couple of chairs at our table that had crumbs left from prior guests. I'm sure this should have been done before we arrived. If you love steak this is your place. Other proteins aren't quite as exciting. The pork dish comes with some overly sweet mashed potatoes. They would have been better without the addition of apples. This spot was recommended to us, and I am very glad we went. The ambience felt refined and high end but comfortable. The lighting was very relaxing, and I loved the wine wall. The wine wall went all the way to the ceiling, and there was a ladder for retrieval. The server was prompt, and helpful. The food was phenomenal! I got the Garden Party NA drink, and loved the sweet and sour flavor. I read another review that said this beverage was too sour, but I think it was perfect. However, I don't like super sweet cocktails or mocktails. I ordered hanger steak. It was very tender for a hanger steak cut. We also order the twice baked potato and broccolini for sides to share. There were three of us and that was plenty. The sides were yummy, especially the potato dish- I loved the crispy skin edge. Finally, we split the carrot cake. The caramel was very sweet, and I wish it was more salty. Next time, I won't put the full serving of caramel over the cake. The cake it's self was moist and perfectly blended with spice.
