Went here for a patio dinner for the first time and it was an awesome summer night! The ambiance was lovely and service was great, despite how busy they were. I ended up getting the carbonara ($I forgot), salmon caesar ($25), and an NA sangria ($9). They were good, but you can expect to foot a heftier bill than you'd typically expect, so minus 1 point for that. There's something about this city and GREAT wings because man oh man they were so crispy, nicely flavorful and juicy as hell. Enjoyed a lovely spot on the patio with some friends! The chicken wings came out hot and the portion was bigger than I was expecting for a spot in the North Loop. Usually I love this place. Today the waitress was not very attentive. I went with a couple girlfriends we ordered wings, calamari and the beans. Had a Bloody Mary to drink. They mentioned 20-25 minutes on the phone and as soon as I showed up the wings were coming out hot and ready. $20 for 12 wings (flats and drumsticks). Monte Carlo is a great spot year round! I've been in the deep winter months and beautiful summer time, each experience has called for a different yet incredibly enjoyable. Most recently, I've had the salmon caesar salad which was great if you're looking for something very light. I wish it had a stronger caesar flavor but it was pleased for lunch. In terms of drinks if you like martinis this is your place. They will give you a martini with a mini shaker so you basically get 2 drinks in one. Such a great deal and they'll do martinis that aren't even on the menu considering they have the ingredients. The energy inside is very vintage romantic which is something you don't see a lot of in this area of minneapolis which tends to lean more modern. We made reservations which is definitely needed as it's a smaller place. The tables are a bit tight which gives me a bit of anxiety. Not a ton on the menu I can eat. My mom & sister split a steak, I got wings & fries. The infamous wings. I didn't too much care them honestly. They are well seasoned. Idk if they use allspice or what but the cinnamon-ish flavor throws me off. I don't mind a bit of sweetness but generally not my fave seasoning mix. Ranch is extra but it does help. My water glass was dirty and had food stuff on the rim which turned me off completely from drinking it. I ordered just the wings and boy was I disappointed. They are jumbo wings with a dry rub but spoiler alert, the dry rub is just salt and pepper. Heavy on the salt. The wings were so salty they started to burn the inside of my cheeks. The fries were good. Take any recommendation for a Minnesota eatery with a grain of salt (no pun intended). You're better off flying to Chicago for a decent meal. The music they play is nice. Surprise! Graduate school, a career, and retirement all in Minneapolis and I had never heard of the Monte Carlo until this weekend. My bad luck. It was excellent. Since 1906? Who knew? The place is like Jax but a little more compact; a huge bar at the front door with tables beyond. The dark, old time décor is quite attractive. At a little more than half-full, the noise level was very tolerable. There is an adjacent parking lot guarded faithfully by an attendant. No need for valet parking since the restaurant entrance is only a few steps from the lot. I had the scallops and linguini, which was excellent. My wife had the clam chowder and a shrimp plate that I don't see on the online menu right now. Also excellent. The menu includes an eclectic assortment of options, pretty mainstream stuff. Our first time dining at Monte Carlo fell a little short than expected. I'd heard so much about the food, and the the cocktails; it was on my bucket list for months. I was finally able to book a reservation for the indoor seating and while the food and drinks were indeed delicious, a few other points fell short for me. I found the menu to be significantly limited; a handful of sandwiches and main entrees. The bar menu is more vast than the dinning menu. I didn't order an appetizer as I had not done my homework about their famous chicken wings to try them. Nothing spoke to me and knowing my entré was served with their delicious house-made Cesar salad, our table passed on apps. For mains, we enjoyed the "Moules Frites" and the "Scallops Basilic". The Moules Frites were served with country bread and our choice of side; I opted the $3 up charge for a Baked Potato, but once it arrived at my table, I immediately regretted that decision; the potato was flavorless and bland. Literally, just a baked potato, no fixings. The mussels on the other hand were delicious. The broth the mussels were served in was well seasoned, warm and savory. The Scallops Bascilic dish was insanely delicious! The scallops were perfectly cooked, but what truly pulled the whole dish together was the garlic-y cream sauce that covered the entire bed of pasta. What made this experience less than phenomenal was the limited menu and the service which we found to be okay but not on-par with the type of establishment this is; service is a bit lack-luster as is the delays with drinks. I also wasn't too big a fan of how close together the tables were both indoors and outside. If you don't mind the lack of privacy on a casual date night or a girls night out, jump the broom and try them out. But if you're looking for a more intimate, romantic experience, I'd keep this one off that list. All in all, it was good, not great; still a fun night out in the North Loop complete with a good meal and okay drinks. We stopped by on a Monday for drinks and something to eat and sat at the patio. Really nice ambiance with the trees and the umbrellas. Lots of people there after work. The prices on their website are outdated- everything is a bit pricier now. I ordered the root beer float cocktail (really unique!) and the cheeseburger with fries. Overall I thought the drink menu was good but a bit pricey with no happy hour, and the food menu to definitely be on the higher end- with even a plain ceasar salad costing almost $20. The root beer float drink was good, but I was disappointed that by the time it got to me the ice cream was almost completely gone and melted away. My burger was good as well and the fries were very crispy and perfectly salted. Our server was very pleasant and kind, but service overall was pretty slow. I've dined at MC over a dozen times since moving to Minneapolis in 2024. Here are some thoughts: service alternates between good very indifferent. Hamburgers are great, Chili is outstanding, walleye is bland, almost unseasoned and the fish sticks to the breading and has to be scraped off with a knife. Servers...some are great, and some simply disappear and have to be found to pay the check. That happens a lot. The impression I get overall is no one is supervising either the kitchen or the room as there is a lack of consistency in both food and service. The restaurant seems to be getting by on its ambience which is of course great. To summarize, you just don't know from one visit to the next what you're going to get. read more

We also tried the fried chicken and it was super good with flavor! I enjoyed the calamari but we especially enjoyed the variety of alcoholic malts. The patio is also cute and vibey, with nice hanging lights and trees nestled between the buildings. The patio is first come first serve for seating so you may have a bit of a wait on a nice day. Our service was very slow and we had a hard time tracking down our server to get additional items and the check. In terms of the menu, the vegetarian options were extremely limited which was a bummer. The open faced egg salad was good but nothing mind blowing. The fries it came with however were delicious! Had this spot after a long day on set and it was a smooth vibe. We rode scooters from our hotel over and it was a cool experience to view Minneapolis while on our way here. The service was really nice, even noticed how tired we were because we weren't speaking much, but told us that we were a nice and easy table for the night. Tastes like 80% oriental spice / 20% salt... not salty like wings should be which makes me want to eat a lot of these in one sitting compared to most places due to the salt factor of normal dry rub wings. I like these dry rub ones here since it does not leave a bad after taste like the dry rub everywhere else. The calamari is a bit on the salty side but if you dip into the marinara it's fantastic! Togo service was 15min for both. Pick up Togo at the bar. Smells like just wings in the restaurant even though it's much classier of a place with a full menu. Yikes, this is not what I thought it was going to be at all! The vibes are very midwest steakhouse and it does feel in every way highly authentic for what they're going for. Tablecloths with towels as napkins, everything just seems so midwest - it was nice to go see this! Then we ended up getting our drinks, and let me tell you it's really cool to have a sidecar that is bigger than your manhattan or martini. And the manhattans and martinis weren't bad, they just were good enough. Now at this price point that makes sense and if your goal is to go have a couple cocktails and a miniature steak and get drunk then yes, this will work, but the cocktails could be much better! The food however did not hit. The wings were nice and crispy and had a fun flavor. They certainly weren't spicy though, and I wouldn't call them necessarily juicy either. Crispy was the best they had going for them. The caesar salad had to be the most watery caesar salad i've ever had and was not at all tasty. The steaks were SOOOOO small that it was disappointing, and the Rueben Sandwich was decent, but certainly wasn't made with anything that had flavor depth like Katz's pastrami. I might drop by for a drink in the future, but I won't be eating here again. read more

On a weekend trip to MSP, met up with some friends we haven't seen in years. It was our first time to the Monte Carlo and it did not disappoint. They have a nice seating shares in front to wait for your group and people watch. The server Yasmina was super friendly. We had a table for six on the patio. It was very comfortable and good for conversation. We ordered the legendary chicken legs with the dry rub and they did not disappoint! All the entrees were great including the green beans.
