Omar knows his stuff! Here is a guy who takes great pride in providing the best service possible. I had a aftermarket exhaust installed at a different shop, and they screwed it up horribly. Driveshaft rubbing on the muffler, unauthorized bracket welding which was not required, vibrations and noises from the exhaust pipes banging on underbody braces, and they didn't even bother centering the tailpipes. Omar was literally upset that someone would deliver a car in this condition. He took two hours, and less money than the original shop, to disassemble everything and put it back together properly, with dampers where necessary to prevent rattling. My Audi sounds great now. I highly recommend this guy's shop! read more

I drive an expensive car and have learned the hard way to not drive the car into a shop in clear view because many shops will immediately 'Adjust' their estimate upward. Was never an issue at Ballard Muffler. I explained what I needed done, and they said, "Okay, let's put it on the lift and have a look". He called me out have a look as well, and confirmed my suspicions of a bad catalytic converter and then proceeded to wow me with the fairest price I could have imagined. I asked him how long he needed to hold onto the car to complete the job, and he said "Give me about an hour". He directed me to a good coffee shop a block up the road, and then 40 minutes later he called me with the good news that the car was ready. Stealership Estimate for the job = $1600 Other Exhaust Shops Estimates = $300 to $800 higher than Ballard Muffler Ballard Muffler not only gave the best estimate, they actually performed what amounted to custom work at my request that ended up being a far superior installation to what other shops were offering to provide. I'm an engineer, and there was a flaw in the original design. A simple adjustment would guarantee a more seamless installation and significantly reduce wear on the exhaust system. The manufacturer now realises the flaw and currently builds the exhaust on new models EXACTLY how Ballard muffler performed my installation. In this day and age, you just don't find shops as reliably good and decent as Ballard Muffler. If you're looking for GRADE A work at the fairest price you'll find in the Seattle area, then you've stumbled upon a shop that's very deserving of it's great reviews. read more

Like this place needs another review. Can I just be the first to say that this might be the only car related service business that has a 5 star rating. With good reason. Fast. I don't even care that much about fast. Done right, yes. Fast, not so much. But fast they are and done right they are. Now for the good stuff. First of all, this place is one of those places that look like something you see in a National Geographic photo shoot of some unhappy part of the world that usually has a burned out chopper in it and a few bomb craters. Venture further past the driveway and you'll see where the magic happens. And they aren't going for pretty. The "waiting room" is clearly designed for you not to be waiting in it. The refreshment can be find in one of those Mr.Coffee machines that your parents bought you in 1988 to bring to your dorm room. If you ever wanted to know where that went its in this waiting room. I was greeted by the mechanic who had been busily tinkering away in the open shop. I told him what I thought the problem was and grabbed my keys, threw my truck up on the rack, and diagnosed in about 2 seconds. Following that was the quote. Which was about $450 less than I thought it would be. I tell you what though, if it hadn't read the awesome reviews of this place I would have not have believed this. I agreed and he said he needed an hour. No paperwork. No "this-is-an-estimate-but-I-will-find-15-more-things-that-you-should-buy-after-you-come-back-in-an-hour-sucker". I imagine this is what going to the local mechanic in Mayberry in 1958 must have been like. An hour goes by and I wander back thinking that all I will find is a garden gnome in an empty field of oil-spotted grass and that I imagined the whole place. He was already working on another car! At first I thought he hadn't even gotten around to it. But I found my truck in perfect working condition. Not to get all Hallmark, but you get a warm fuzzy feeling when you find a business that seems to have the sole purpose in serving the community and making an honest dollar. I can only imagine the hundreds of cars this guy keeps on the road for their owners. I also get the impression he has no idea what Yelp even is. He is too busy fixing those cars. Yelpers came through once again! I'd been eying this place for years, mostly wondering why it looked so ratty but still managed to keep in business. I stopped in last week just to get a quote on replacing an exhaust pipe with a 6-inch, rusted-out crack. The guy put it up on the rack right away and quoted me half what my regular mechanic had. I said Go for it! He told me an hour, but I had only 35 minutes to admire the never-remodeled-since-1952 plywood cubbyhole of a waiting room before he had his welding done and my car down. Drove away not much lighter in the wallet, and my car sounded like a car again and not a motorcycle! Two hours later: bad rattly noise coming from the replaced pipe. Crap. Went back the next day, he threw it up on the rack, and figured that his work the first time must have knocked a part of another pipe loose. 10 minutes later, he had it down with the pipe repaired. No charge, no fuss, quiet-again car, happy me. No charge card stickers in the windows, not even hours posted on the door, no framed awards from AAA or the BBB; it's as bare-bones a place as it gets, but hey, who cares what the waiting room looks like if they do this good and honest of a job. I am very happy I decided to go here when my muffler suddenly got loud. They were quick, kind, friendly and professional and the price was excellent. At first we talked about the approximate estimated cost to replace the rear muffler alone ($175) or the rear muffler and front muffler together ($275). I have a 20+ year old Volvo and the muffler always ends up needing repair/replacement on these cars, this is my 3rd 240DL and with a 20 year old car it is to be expected. The car was put up on the lift and the owner came back and said they could fix a hole in the muffler and possibly get me out of there for closer to $85. Considering money is very tight right now I was grateful for the possibility of not paying to replace the whole thing. He asked me to come back in 30 minutes and when I returned voila it was all set. There was one other thing he needed to repair on the front end of the exhaust and so I was charged a flat $100 total. What a relief! This place reminds me of the garage my grandfather had when I was a kid and I appreciated the same simple straightforward approach. When I've had this issue with other cars I've been to places that said they would not ever repair a part of an exhaust/muffler only replace the whole system. That seems to be standard now. Then a little Yelp research directed me here, and the experience was incredible. I called ahead to see if I needed an appointment, and was told I could come in any time. I arrived at noon and within two minutes my car was jacked up and I was given a price quote of $120 and a time estimate of an hour to an hour and a half. Even though they had to finish up with the car that was in before me, I was out the door at 1:00 pm sharp. I know almost nothing about cars, and owning such an old model, I worry whenever something goes wrong. I installed a set of headers on my `62 Falcon and needed to get the rest of the exhaust system hooked up. I'm usually a DIY guy when it comes to my old car but bending and welding exhaust pipe takes special skills so I decided to let the pros do it. These guys are great to work with. I was originally going to just hook into the existing system but once they got it up on the lift we decided I would be better off with all new pipe and a different style muffler in a different location. I live pretty close and they called a couple of times to have me come over and clear up a few questions they had. I appreciated the fact that they wanted to get it just the way I wanted and they did a great job. I asked about the warranty and he said if I ever have a problem just bring it back and he will take care of it. And you know what...I believe them. read more
