Had a quick layover so I decided to go in for a bowl of pho. Very efficient system where you sot and order and pay through a tablet placed at each seat. I was pleasantly surprised that the pho was as good if not better than most I've had. That's saying a lot since I'm Vietnamese and live in Hawaii where pho is good and plenty. The broth had good flavor and a nice balance of sweet and savory and the dish had very good quality pieces of beef and pork. The service was excellent. With that in mind the food was ok, not great. We had sushi, Bulgogi fries, and the miso soup. The soup was better than expected, but the rest was bland. What a HOT MESS this place is!! I'm not sure if the man was new or not, but he was definitely not trained. I ordered one Edamame and a Prosecco and he closed my bill with a 18% gratuity attached. I said, please leave it open, I may order something else. He told me that's not how they order there. Okayyyyy ... He then came back to me and said "I can leave your check open". Great, that sounds good and I ordered another Prosecco. When I went to check-out he said my bill was $111.10. I told him "not a chance"!! He then said "oh, our mistake .. someone else got your bill but this is the one that needs to be paid". I'm like, are you freaking kidding me with this? He then pulled out the credit/debit card machine and told me that he would text me a order number that I need to put into the machine to refund the $111.10 and that I could put in the correct amount. How can I put in the correct amount if you don't tell me what it is? Long story shorter and 15 minutes later, I'm rushing to catch my flight with no refund because he couldn't figure out how to use the machine. My card was then charged four more times for the amounts of $47.63, $23.82, $33.55, and $4.86 causing my bank to freeze my account on a Friday afternoon with no access to the bank until Monday. The food was "fair at best" airport food and over priced but I travel enough for work to understand that. However, the service was about as poor as I've every encountered. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

The location isn't bad, in the northern half of Terminal C at IAH. The seating is a bit too hip in style but the plain tables and curving bar actually do work. Service wasn't bad either, but wasn't great. The main killer? They used to be a Vietnamese-cajun place at some point, but today the closest they get to that is a Japanese tempura-battered broccoli. Those shrimp po' boys and bowls of noodle soup previously on the menu are nowhere to be found, and in place is a very, very generic American restaurant. Even the attempts at not being too generic, such as the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, are indifferent at best, mediocre at worse-- there was no "hot" at all and it barely tasted like chicken, which is quite an accomplishment. read more

Bam Bam is another OTG restaurant in IAH Terminal C. That means seating yourself and order and pay by I-Pad. I came here for a pre-flight dinner with my colleague. The food was quite good for an airport! The menu is New Orleans and Asian. This combination is not strange at all, since historically there is a large Vietnamese American community in New Orleans. The crawfish étouffée I ordered was excellent! I enjoyed the bold, smoky flavors and generous amounts of crawfish meat. I like the preparation with rice on the center so I can control the ratio as I eat. Bonus points for serving corn bread that was not dry! They have a decent beer menu here as well. I ended up getting the grilled pork banh (grilled pork, cilantro, daikon, cucumber, carrot, pickle aioli - $13). Yes, yes I know it was a $13 banh mi but it's an airport and I was craving asian food. To give Bam Bam some credit, it was large portion so I took half my sandwich home. I liked how flavorful it was. I could taste the umami from the fish sauce and the sweet & spiciness. The grilled pork could have been a bit more tender & less jerky-like, but again flavors were good enough that I didn't mind. I also ate this the next day and it was still just as good! I don't really like fast food but I'd go to Wendy's before I ever eat here again. The food, portions and price are terrible. I got the smoked brisket bowl and a salad, my husband got the miso salmon. When my food arrived I was literally like wtf! The salad was ok but my brisket bowl made absolutely no sense. I have never seen anything like it. Imagine taking two small rectangles of brisket and cutting them into extremely tiny cubes as if you were feeding it to a kitten and laying it next to a bunch of bland over cooked white rice with shredded dry coleslaw over it. All the staff stand around chatting but when I ask for napkins (you know, for my food) it took an act of the gods to flag one down. The food is priced quite high and remarkably bland, despite coming from two food cultures known for being flavorfully. I ordered the salad rolls to start, which looked nice but we're wrapped terribly so they fall apart. I asked for hot chili oil (a staple in Vietnamese cuisine) and they acted like I asked them for caviar at McDonalds. After bringing the oil, it took another 20 minutes for my simple fried rice. I was going to order the pho, except that when I asked about the pho, he had no idea what I was saying since I pronounced it correctly (fuh, not Fo). Which was a bad omen to me. Pass this place up. Please keep in mind that this rating is an 'airport food' rating, though Bam Bam would do pretty damn nicely out in the real world. The food here is prepared to order. It's prepared quickly-- as if your flight is hauling ass in minutes -- and it's prepared tenderly and full of flavor. Impressive. The staff here won't pretend to be your best friend. They are polite and efficient, but they won't ask you about your grandchildren. And that's fine with me. Just quickly hook me up with my skewers and extra tall beer and we can be friends for life. But seriously, this is good food. And it's served by people who want to get you on your way. I like that. And I really wish there were a Bam Bam at all of my departure gates. read more

I can't say much about their other food but, the steak was surprisingly tender and cooked to the right temperature. The wings were spicy and right. Buffalo is my flavor of choice. The drink (I got a cocktail) was quite a lame rendition compared to how it is described. The menu is not fusion, it is either Vietnamese or it is Cajun. It's quite a standard fare for both types of cuisine so I didn't really get what was so "fusion". The fried rice I got was so barebones I could barely see any vegetables. Really a sham. The taste was alright but underwhelming. My drink was basically a beer with no proper proportions of alcohol thrown in...so underwhelming. The worst part is the ordering is done without any interaction with people, yet, you are still expected to provide a tip.
