Bam Bam is a great restaurant to sit down at as you wait for your flight to arrive. It offers Viet inspired dishes, sushi, as well as other favorites such as General Chicken. The restaurant is similar to others within the airport where patrons seat themselves, then order and pay for their food from the tablet. Once the food is ready, the servers will bring the food directly to you. Efficient and eliminates the wait for workers to fee up before taking care of you. Food: Pork skewers - If you have tried grilled pork from Vietnamese restaurants, this is exactly what that is. Tender grilled pork comes on two skewers on top of a cabbage/onion slaw and served with sweet chili sauce. The pork had great flavor and was slightly charred, adding to the overall flavor. The menu described the slaw as pickled but it tasted just like a raw slaw. Not too bad as the pork and sauce added plenty of flavor to the veggies. 4/5 Seafood fried rice - The portions was huge! This can easily be shared with another person along with the skewers and be a full meal for both. This came with crab, shrimp, crawfish, eggs, and green onions. The rice sadly did not have too much flavor and lacked veggies to give it a fresh pop. Most Asian fried rice shave a nice smoky flavor from the wok that it's cooked in and this sadly did not have it. Perhaps it was prepare son a non stick pan? 3/5 Overall I had a pleasant experience at Bam Bam. The portion size is definitely good for those that are more cost conscious as I made it into another meal later that night. Listen folks. If you can order food from damn near anywhere within the airport and have the food brought to you where ever the tablets are located is freaking awesome! Perhaps I should give kudos to United air for setting the stage for such an awesome experience, but the winner here is the breakfast Cajun fried rice that I ordered here before boarding my plane. I wished I would've taken a picture, but man ol man, it was so good! Take my word. Ordered the General Tso's chicken for $26. Rice was so hard as if it was barely cooked. I returned the bowl to the waitress. She said the cook told her I got the last scrapes of rice from the rice cooker and that it was going to take a while for another order. So I ordered a chicken sandwich ($20) as a replacement. The spring roll I ordered was already exploded impossible to handle. When tried the first bite, the noodle was old, mush. The sauce were also dry with the peanut in it al mush. This place has really deteriorated in the last year or so. I used to love this place. Just here for a short layover and C11 was right across so I decided to get a quick bite. Here's my review: 1. I ordered my favorite pork belly appetizer. This time it was dry and VERY SALTY!! I just ate a piece of it and I had to drink 2 glasses of water just to take the saltiness our from my tongue 2. The eel masago roll was a TOTAL disappointment. The eel was rubbery chewy. I just hope they give out quality food. The pork belly was overly fried or maybe stayed under the heat lamp too long as it was dry and jerky like - where did the fat go??? And the scrumptiousness that pork belly normally has was gone. The presentation of the greens that were thrown on top of it hid how dry and hard it was. The chicken fried rice needed salt and was too dry. I had half a bite of one and drank most of my coffee with it to wash it down. There was a seasoning that was overpowering similar to Chinese 5 spice that was screaming. Between the dryness of the fried rice and the overstated seasoning it was disappointing. It took me over 20 minutes to get a glass of water, after I asked about it and 3 servers walked by me. Reasons for the 1 star really goes to the set up of the Houston Airport - love the way you can order food and the second reason is the quantity of food. While some of our friends went to just grab something quickly from Wendy's, one of my friends and I ventured for something we hoped would be a little healthier. The minute I sat down, I knew not to order anything too Vietnamese (I'm Vietnamese and I just had this intuition to not do it lol). So, if you can, order anything that resembles more American food than Vietnamese food here. I ordered wings and truffle fries here, which is why my food ended up being pretty good. My friend ordered summer rolls and the vermicelli bowl with shrimp. I'm not exactly sure how you mess up summer rolls, but it was gross. She gave me a bite to taste and the shrimp was rubbery and extremely overcooked. The dipping sauce was awful. Her vermicelli bowl, luckily, was a little better but she was still extremely disappointed in her entree. The way she described it after eating was, "It tastes as if someone just looked at the Vietnamese dishes and put all the ingredients together, without looking at the instructions on how to make it actually taste like the Vietnamese dish..." So, there you have it. Also, side note, the food here is really expensive for "Vietnamese food." Granted, I already knew that since we were at the airport but...keep that in mind while you read my Yelp review and take my advice. What I got was bland. They also gave us someone else's order by accident. Some of the food was cold on the plate Brisket was mostly dry. The wings are ok but breaded and plain. Miso was good. Sushi rolls Good! They ran out of desserts we ordered. Could not get a dessert. No management on site. Staff didn't know what to do about no dessert. Had to submit a question to the website about refund for a desert. Automated Response was I needed to wait a few days to find out about the dessert issue. The staff tried but were powerless and/or disorganized. Food was OK. Very expensive. no Management on site to solve problems. Took 45 minutes to get food because need internet to order food. Spending $130, getting 4 menu items, and left hungry with incomplete orders after 2 hours. I ate here twice in the last week; once on the way to Florida and again on the way back. It's a Thai/cajun/vietnamese spot with a TON of relaxing space and even more chargers for all of your devices. You order from the iPads at each table, swipe your card, and your food/drink show up a short time later. I ordered Pad Thai Noodle with Shrimp on the way out and the special that was vermicelli noodles on a salad with Shrimp on the way back. Both were light, healthy (rare in an airport), and really tasty. The beer selection featured the usual macro stuff as well as some local options. A couple of the local options was St. Arnold beers. I was excited to try them after their recent success at GABF. They lived up to the hype. The employees were just friendly enough. They weren't rude, but weren't exactly friendly either. If you get a spot at the high tables you can have a never-ending supply of people watching. I found it quite entertaining. They have a ton of bar spots to watch sports on TV as well. Had a connecting flight in Houston, so my best friend and I had about 40 mins of spare time to grab dinner in between our flights. This place looked pretty cool--nice decor, swanky place--each tables/counter top seating had an iPad so you could order your food and drinks--how tech savy. We ordered the egg rolls, five spice crispy roasted pork belly, and the maki roll (fried shrimp tempura inside with crab sticks on the top--I forgot the exact name of this roll--I think it was called the BamBam roll). The pork belly was not crispy at all--nothing special about it either. The sushi roll was actually pretty good. The egg rolls never came out! I flagged down a waitress there and told her that my other two dishes had came out and we were finished yet the egg rolls had never came out--she wrote down our order # and assured us that the manager would credit us back the order (I had already closed the check on the iPad screen). Sounded great right? Well, it's been a week later and I got no refund--I know it's only $8.50 but it's super annoying that they would rip customers off like that. Service was just terrible. Food was the quality of a frozen meal served in a paper to go bowl. Small portion and fairly tasteless. Advertised as Vietnamese food. This is not Vietnamese at all. Precooked Chinese that costed $75 for lunch. The server put the bowls down with zero emotion. We had not ordered any drinks and the server said nothing. Did not even offer water. We ate the bowls without even water. We went starbucks after and got water there. After We saw that just about everyone had real glass bowls with lager portions. Why are some people given small paper bowls and others glassware? Overall unhappy expensive poor quality food and non existent service. Dont waste your money on the fake Vietnamese food.
