i like this place because it's named 'Rose' and so am i. that's legit, right?? really, i just appreciate theaters with a little character. i'm so bored of the massive multiplex. i wasn't familiar with the area, so the building from the outside was a little obscure. there was scaffolding covering the address, and i almost missed it, due to the fact that it fronts the face of a government building. inside the decor shines of pre-deco visage. facilities are clean and the auditorium was large. minus a star for the cafe being closed, though i was probably there on an off hour. read more

An okay place to see movies. It's not really better just because it's BAM. I saw BORAT there to a packed crowd which was fun. The theater was this great old-fashioned movie house type theater which was great. I also sat a few rows behind Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams and stood on line behind them for popcorn. That was funny. I guess the only way I can sum up BAM Cinemas is to say: "Heath Ledger thought Borat was really funny--even the naked dude wrestling scene." read more

I'm getting really tired of the entitled whyte pypo who go to BAM and act like it's their living room. I swear it's as if people make the decision to go to nice, pricey movie theaters just to be annoying. This is why I choose to travel farther to theaters like Alamo and Nitehawk Cinema; where it's required for the patrons there to shut the fuck up or get out! read more

I love going to the movies at BAM. The theaters are beautiful, the movies (both new releases, classics, and the scheduled programs) are always interesting, and it feels like a nod to a time when going to the movies was an event. My goal is to become a BAM Cinema Club member to inspire me to go more often. An excellent venue for seeing a film! read more

Love this theatre and its staff. The films and the film series are outstanding. My one complaint is the design of the larger theatres upstairs. There are no center aisles, so if you get a seat in the middle you won't be able to leave your seat without disturbing a whole lot of people. And the side seats give a somewhat distorted view. read more

The most polished theater in all of Brooklyn in all facets, including picture quality and interior. I wish I had known how stellar this theater was years ago, but it was relatively new when I was a kid, so I came to know it better more recently. I've seen the the cinema packed to the brim sometimes, reflecting how popular this theater is and how widely appreciated its selection of films continues to be. Saw Fruitvale Station here, pretty comfy and spacious, my only thing is that they could use a few more restrooms.

Love that there isn't a crowd but for 12 dollars a ticket and no student discounts from Friday-Sunday, definitely not a fan unless they're playing something super good here. read more

BAM is one of my favorite places to see a movie due to the exquisite setting, their classic film screenings and the eclectic moviegoers that frequent the cinemas. The convenience of the venue cannot be overstated, especially since it's accessible by nearly a dozen subway lines (and LIRR). I docked one star for the cramped and uncomfortable seating in the theaters. read more

A beautiful space, though the whole night was bittersweet, realizing that it may very well be the end of NYCO as we know it. A friend and I enjoyed a wonderful evening at BAM watching Anna Nicole. The performance was wonderful and the house was perfect for the performance! BAM and NYCO didn't skimp on details: pink carpet leading into the building and an amazing pink grand curtain. My only complaint is that the lobby didn't really seem able to be able to handle the large, sold out crowd of Fridays performance. There was a lot of long lines leading to elevators and big crowds in front of orchestra entrances before the top of the show. Other than the foot traffic, this was a very enjoyable night in a wonderful venue! read more

The theaters are small, but upstairs, in the Rose Cafe, it's gorgeous. The lights transcend you to a different place. I imagine this is how heaven would welcome you. It's a really beautiful space for events. I'd definitely go to an event or lounge like this. read more

One of the best places to catch artsy, indie and even some mainstream flicks in BK. One thing that irks me about this cinema is the previews. You can never time it to miss the previews. Sometimes the previews start before the written show time and sometimes after. This means if you are five minutes late you could be missing the first part of the film. Cinemas 3 and 4 are the larger theaters with the bigger screens and have that old theater grand movie experience. Cinemas 1 and 2 are much smaller and have the art house cinema feel and because they are small you better get to the movie on time. All the theaters have nice, clean and comfy seats. I became a member of BAM and its one of the best things I've done that has helped me enjoy Brooklyn more. I am there weekly. They have great arty movies and series as well as the mainstream movies. The only thing is that the bathroom is a little small so there is always a bum rush to use it when the movie lets out read more

Saw the Nutcracker here last night. Excellent production! The skills of some dancers does not match up to Lincoln Center's Nutcracker dancers, timing was off and dancers were not precisely in sync with each other; nevertheless, it was still a very good show. Since its the holidays, naturally, you will hear kids crying during the performance. We sat in orchestra seats. They were comfortable. You can sit anywhere and get a good view. The 430pm show was not pretentious and less snotty than Lincoln Center's. read more

Guys, if you live within walking, biking, subway, train, or airplane distance of BAM, get yourself there. I'm a patron and it really makes me feel like a part of my community. Also, the programming is insanely good. The buildings are beautiful. There are great restaurants and bars nearby. It's just the best and you should go and, moreover, become a member and enjoy the benefits BAM offers. The customer service rocks. read more

Saw Rimbaud in New York at the Fisher.The play leaves a lot to be desired but it's worth a shot .The theater itself is comfortable and has good sight lines.I'd like to see something better here at some point.I hadn't been in this neighborhood in years and I enjoyed exploring it.Keep in mind there are a number of restaurants in the area.We parked on the street.you are almost across the street from the Barclay Center. read more

This review is about the BAM Cafe. I first came to BAM over 5 years ago for my aunt's birthday. My family and I greatly enjoyed the Sunday gospel brunch. I brought a few of my Manhattanite friends into Brooklyn this weekend and after hitting up the Brooklyn Flea we came to BAM Cafe for its happy hour from 6 pm - 8 pm. The buiilding instantly wowed my friends and while there wasn't live music playing, there was great music and it was simply relaxing and chill vibe to grab a drink and relax. I love Brooklyn for many reasons, and one of those main reasons is the cultural diversity that you find there a lot more often than in Manhattan. The crowd was a great mix. Also, what a great deal for the happy hour! We ordered 6 drinks among each other - cocktails, prosecco, and beer - and our tab never ran more than $40. We left before the 9 pm performance to have dinner but I wished we could have stayed. I can't wait to come back to BAM again for a performance or to the cafe for another drink when I am back in the neighborhood! read more

Very cool place. First of all their cinema isn't the typical cinema around. They carry independent hard to find movies who are aired in theatre style rooms. Their shows are a little too out of the box for me, and their plays as well but I have always enjoyed myself. They also have a lounge that offers light food, a full bar and more. Dress to impress, but kept on the artsy side- this isn't the MET after all :). read more

An odd selection of movies playing here but a quality cinema nonetheless. They have a huge IMAX screen with real stadium seats, the kind where you can sit behind Shaq and still have an unobstructed view of the screen. They show mostly independent films here but will also have some mainstream attractions as well. You can come here and enjoy a film without feeling cramped or dirty or like you have to contort your body to get the best view of the screen. read more

I loved this place, I saw Sufjan Stevens here about a month ago. The place was beautiful, it was easy to get to, even though it was sold out and we were in the back the seating was arranged nicely so I could see over the people in front of me. I'm a fan of the movie theater here. They show current indies as well as a few oldies. It's clean and only has four screens. I've been to the cafe on free music Fridays and Saturdays. The space is gorgeous, but for popular bands, go early. The cafe can get full easily and you may not get in. They have a bunch of tables and also serve bar food in addition to alcohol. It's a great place to lounge and relax with a few friends on a lazy Sunday. read more
