Nice movie theater - ticket prices are a little high ($14) and the selection ranges from more mainstream art house movies (the kinds of things that would play at a multiplex) to some exclusive engagements day and date with Manhattan, and the Cinemateque programing which is excellent, challenging, and often presented in 35MM. I love the movies they show. I love the ambiance. Prima! I loved them enough to become a level II member. I have a few things that just drive me crazy though. 1. You're an art house cinema. Why are you serving Regal Cinema Yellow No. 5 popcorn? 2. Your cinema club is such a great idea, but managed in such a haphazard ridiculous way, where do I start? Half of it is online. 1/3 of it is managed by a 3rd party. 1/3 of it never answers the phone and keeps 9-5 hours. 100% is still sent by mail? Why, if I'm allowed to buy membership online, and you have a numeric receipt system, do I then have to wait 2 weeks before I can get discounted tickets? This is a movie, not elective surgery. Just print the membership number out in the receipt email? Why on earth don't you do that? Why must I wait until Monday, to call....to get a temp pass? That's it. The rest is love. Sigh. read more

Awesome! This cinema has such unique and wide variety of films. Not just the regular old boring mainstream movies that all the 16 year olds are rushing to see. The theater itself is very decorated and has an interesting historic feeling to it. Seats are wide an comfy, screen is big and the theater has a good AC which is very very important in today's theaters. All in all a great venue for catching side-stream movies. read more

when you want to see a film like a civilized person and sit in comfy seats, enjoy lovely snacks, peep some cute dudes and soak up a truly brooklyn experience then go to court street cinemas. ahahahahaha, NO. don't do that. though that is a whole other kind of truly brooklyn experience (go see anything, doesn't matter what, at 3:40am at court street and see what i mean). This is definitely one of the best neighborhood theaters I've encountered in the 5 boroughs. Every New Yorker should take some time to see a movie in different neighborhoods around the 5 boroughs, it's really one of the great aspects of New York. I've had some great experiences at Cobble Hill Cinemas for instance and many different ones in Queens including Forest Hills, but this one really is up there among my favorite. I think they only have 3 or 4 screens, but the architecture and design is incredible, the feeling of the theater is unique and happens to be a perfect setting to really dive into a movie, and you don't get any rowdy juvenile delinquents here (Like the ones you might encounter at the United Artists in Astoria). BAM in general is one of the many great things that makes Fort Greene a special neighborhood, but specifically BAM Rose Cinemas is a much needed feature to an area of Brooklyn that is scarce on cinemas. I would describe it as quaint, cozy, and special. $12 adults. read more

I have yet to see a film here even though I bought a ticket--at an inflated price for Brooklyn I might add. One extremely hot summer night my friend and I opted for an air conditioned movie theater and ended up here. We got our tickets well before showtime, went to get something to eat and then returned. When we got into the screening room it looked as if they had oversold because there were no empty seats. The usher said that was probably because people had snuck in from other shows and told us to see the manager. They would not give us refunds only passes. When I came back to try to see a movie they said everything was sold out. I asked for a refund which was refused. They could use a retraining in customer service and theft control. The IFC is so much better without the attitude. Plus the atmosphere there is like yuppie apocalypse. Like if a UFO landed filled with gentrifiers. Get over yourselves, it's BROOKLYN. read more

Fans of BAM pay attention to this! I called BAM to find out about student rush tickets. Latasha was very nice but she said in order to get student rush tickets I not only need a student ID but I need to be 25 tears old or under. I'm 33. I'm a student and cannot afford the high price tickets. They refused my $10 even though they have nearly 60 seats left for the last night of Lipsynch. They will not sell all those tickets and could at least get my $10 + my friend's $10. This is 100% age discrimination. I was told that they get a lot of complaints about this but refuse to change it. Statistically (especially now with our current economy) most students are over 25. Last I read the average age of students at community colleges is 28. Most Graduate Students are in their 30's. I'm a theatre student and have no job. I should be encouraged to see this show & the theatres (with interest in theatre declining) should be pushing student tickets more. this is my first choice of theaters when i'm making plans to see a movie, so it's too bad that they only show a few at a time. but, that being said, the theaters are super-clean; the audience is sooo respectful (i HATE when people talk during movies -- this isn't your living room!!); and independent, only-in-selected-theaters movies are often available here. quality stuff. read more

The best damn movie theatre in the entire city, bar none. I go here all the time, and the seats are great, great sound, projection, sight lines and imaginative retrospectives and older films. Also the best audiences to see a film with, you can hear a pin drop. I try to see all the new releases here. read more

I just saw the production of Ghosts by Ibsen. Brilliant rendition, adroitly reduced to an hour and forty minutes without intermission by the director. Was riveted throughout. Superb acting, great sets. Harvey theater is incredible. BAM is a jewel. read more

Gorgeous architecture and a nice, intimate setting in each theater. But a suggestion: don't sell popcorn during NT Live or any other *theater* broadcasts--they lack the soundtrack and amplification of studio films and therefore the noise of a neighbor's popcorn chomping is especially maddening (and unnecessary at a 10:00 a.m. screening, no less). I doubt BAM would sell popcorn for a live play, so why do so for a telecast one? Especially when tickets are $25 apiece. read more

Great theater - good location, elegant space, good sound, nice patrons for the most part, civilized place to see a movie in NYC. A pro AND con is that it's independent which is good (we need more good independent theaters) but you won't get discount passes - but if you join their movie club that allows for discounts over a period of time. Plus there are good places to eat right nearby or on Atlantic Ave or in Fort Greene and parking can be had. Thanks BAM! read more

Love the programming and the fact that it is around the corner from the house, but the customer service at BAM Rose Cinemas is HORRIBLE! The Manager there was horrible and his supervisor even more horrible - supercilious and condescending. They made a mistake and gave my husband the wrong tickets and then made him wait around for the person who made the mistake to come back from her break to exchange the tickets. Really? Exchanging 1 adult ticket for 1 kid ticket and returning $4 requires an in person identification - even when the mistake is theirs? Pathetic. read more

I a good place to go if you want a little bit of history added to your movie experience. The theaters themselves are actually rather small for my liking and the chairs can become a problem. Again, the ambiance is nice though. They are however better know for their indie films so that is always a plus! read more

So glad that BAM is a convenient walk from my apartment. Love the cinema choices and the performances. The building is gorgeous and lovingly restored. My only complaint is that I wish that they did a better job with community outreach to older and ethnic residents instead of trendy Manhattanites. read more

My go-to movie theater, albeit with a limited selection. I appreciate that BAM has the bargain ($10) matinees for the first show of the day, relatively few previews, and comfortable seats. Can't comment on the refreshments, but with it being so close to Atlantic Terminal and many restaurants in the area, I'm a fan. I want to go see a movie in their big theater sometime. read more

They do a great job of picking films here, but unfortunately BAM is coasting on that--the seats are really uncomfortable, the sound muddy and the screens small. Once the sorts of movies they show become available for simultaneous streaming--or even just soon after screening--I'd recommend staying at home. Cheaper and more comfortable. And i say this as a huge supporter of BAM who wishes that they'd invest some money in these theaters to bring them up to modern standards. read more

The entire Brooklyn Academy of Music organization is a New York gem. The architecture of the buildings is gorgeous and the Rose Cinema is my favorite place to see a movie. The screening rooms are smaller than the average theatre, for obvious reasons, and it's a lovely place to catch a new or classic film. There is so much going on at BAM and I highly recommend movies here. The selection is always top notch and the crowds are the most respectful I've seen in New York. read more

I feel the need to say how impressed I was by the experience I had today taking my 7-year-old daughter to a show at the new Fisher theatre at BAM today. It was a lovely space and a high-caliber production followed by a dignified Q & A session with the artists (for kids! kids got to ask questions!) and the tickets were only $12! That is an affordable price for New York City parents who would like to introduce their children to good theater but cannot afford Broadway. Good job, BAM. read more

Glorious. Beautiful, clean. And kudos to whoever had the brilliant idea to show previews BEFORE the printed movie time, so that when they say the movie starts at 420, it actually starts at 420. My only complaint is that you can't put the butter on the popcorn yourself, but I guess you can't have everything.. read more
