Found this gem via a Google maps search and what a find. I'm Latin and have had chick peas at several Spanish and Cuban restaurants but this Guyana version of it so freaking delicious, a must try. We came here when my family from out of town wanted Caribbean food and I saw it on Yelp. We were NOT disappointed! Not only was the food delicious but we received top notch, friendly service!! THE definition of a family run, local restaurant. Mom is in the kitchen. Dad is at the bar. Their daughter is a waitress. Warms my heart every time I go. The food is absolutely superb. They have dishes from all over the Caribbean and the menu changes often. Love that place. Whenever I have friends and family from out of town, I take them there and everyone loves it. The location is great too; away from the crowds but close enough to Atlantic. Some points about other reviews here about this place: It's not a hole in the wall. It's a small, family run spot with it's own charm. Not fancy. If you don't like the food here, it's because you dont like this type of food. That's your problem. Don't blame it on the restaurant. It's not a Jamaican or Guyanese or whatever place. Its Caribbean fusion. Don't expect the food to taste exactly like that one dish you had at the last Jamaican or Hatian restaurant you went to. Unless it's a chain, jerk dishes will not taste exactly the same everywhere you go. It's a family run spot. So don't expect assembly line type of service. It can be slow at times. But that comes with going to a small local spot like this. Plus don't forget "Island time" is a real thing. It adds to the experience. If you are in a rush or starving, go somewhere else. Again, it's a family run spot. Don't expect big chain, corporate, robot like service. People have their off days. You might not feel friendly every single day of your life; dont expect them to. That said, they are never rude. But I can see when someone might be having a not so great day and is not up to kissing your @ss or act all peppy. There is no HR, corporate department here. Small local places dont necessarily take yearly customer service classes or have a manager breathing down their necks making sure everything is perfect and PC. Sh!t happens. They might forget an item or confuse an order. Its not the end of the world. People make mistakes. Comes with the territory with small, family owned places. The people that wrote negative reviews are just negative people. You know the type....the hard to please, the picky, the annoying types that always suck the life out of a party. And how big of a fool people look saying the dishes are americanized or styled to the Delray/Palm beach crowds. This is as authentic as it gets. Stop trying to act cool like you are some authority on Caribbean food. Wow wow WOW! This restaurant is a MUST try ! The ambiance makes you feel like you're on a Caribbean island. They serve authentic island food. I can honestly say from the moment we walked in the door all we could feel was love. We ordered the conch fritters (delicious) to start. While waiting our waitress, Lauren, gave us a complimentary order of the jerk meatballs. They were sooo good with a kick of spice. Lauren also gave good suggestions and was soooo sweet. Our main dishes were the Snapper, stewed and an order of Jerk chicken. The entrees came with a salad, rice with okra, cabbage and plantains They even gave us extra rice. ALL OF THE FOOD WAS PERFECTLYYYY COOKED WITH ALL OF THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SPICES We also were blessed to meet the owner, Donald and the Chef. They are very friendly. Real home cooking, superb tastes and friendly service are to be had at this "off the beaten path" tiny dining spot off Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. Authentic "island" plates were cooked to order and served with pride. This place is definately worth a trip for dinner. Outdoor dining is available. The only downside for this dining spot is the live entertainment, which, in my opinion, was not very good. There was a great keyboard/vocalist performing next door at Salotto Ristorante and he should be considered as a addition to Bamboo Fire Cafe. read more

By far my favorite restaurant in Delray. The curry chicken and mac & cheese are the best I've ever had. The dhal, conch ceviche and meatballs are also all must haves. Some friends and I checked out this restaurant for dinner before going to a show at Arts Garage. It is a small cafe with limited seating inside but does have additional seating outside. The owner and staff were very pleasant. Though the food was very delicious I have two issues. It was HARD to taste ANY conch in the conch fritters and we had two orders for the number of people in the group. My second issue had to do with the dessert item. We had the cheese cake. It was just a SLITHER of a slice for the price. The other dishes were delicious and filling. I would recommend this restaurant if you're interested in Caribbean cuisine. read more

Okay ladies and gents: be prepared to be surprised and unsure of whether to believe me- I totally understand. So, I challenge you: try it for yourself. My husband and I have been wanting to try this place since the very first night we moved here. I had read great reviews and it sounded different, off the beaten path, a local spot, and delicious. All of these things, it indeed was! From the outside looking in, doesn't look like anything more than maybe a local Chinese spot: it's not. The jerk chicken here can make you escape to the Caribbean in one bite. I can't even think of the right words to describe. We both ordered the specials as there were two and the server spoke very highly of them. One was a chicken lo mein type dish but again do not think Chinese - it isn't and wasn't. This food will make your mouth water. The sangria: strong and wonderful. The other customers here were locals and we chatted with a few different tables! Everyone was so nice and wanted to know how we found such a hidden local gem... yelp of course! We even made such good friends with the one table they shared their coconut shrimp with us. I ordered the conch fritters expecting thick heavy dough HOWEVER I was surprised; those fritters were light, airy, full of flavor, and I was able taste and chew on bits of conch. The sweet lightly spicy sauce complimented the fritters well. Normally I'm a fork and knife kind of gal, but not last night. I ordered roti and ate the pepper pot ox tail stew with my hands. I wanted to consume every gelatinous bit of yummy. I sucked the bones clean. I'm going back to try more of the menu. As someone who can be considered a picky eater, I took a leap of faith on vacation and went outside my comfort zone. Thankfully I did as this place was five stars all around. My wife and I split the Jerk Platter and we also tried the meatballs, rice and rum cake (which was amazing). The Jerk platter was also delicious and very flavorful. As out of towners, the owner and his daughter treated us and my friend as if we were regulars and couldn't have been more pleasant. Out of sheer chance I decided to go here with a friend after hearing about Delray Beach restaurant week. I wanted to try something completely out of the usual and this is what we settled on. If you are a fan of Caribbean jerk and curry, you have come to the right place. I absolutely loved my lemonade (It's the last drink of my mind normally) and the garbanzo frito. My friend and I both raved about the eggplant dip. He had the blackened pork chops and I had the vegetable/tofu curry dish. Again, impressively good. For dessert he had the cheesecake and I had the rum cake. My pick is the cheesecake as I felt the rum cake had a bit too much rum in it and it was loaded with whip cream and ice cream. I had given a suggestion to place both the whip cream and ice cream on the side so that the guest can decide how much they really want. Service here was so friendly and personal, they made us feel like we were dining in someone's home. The restaurant has limited indoor seating. We've been coming to Bamboo Fire for years, as we love the food and funky, causal atmosphere. I'm writing this review because Bamboo Fire just keeps getting better. They've tweeked the menu a bit, improving what was already very good - for instance the very decadent mac and cheese. I couldn't have imagined it being any better, but it is! Standards such as the jerk meatballs are delicious and we order then every time we come. Eggplant dip starter is fabulous and loaded with flavor. Same for the vegetarian Lo Mein. This is our SPOT! We absolutely love coming here. We go here often, but our time is always spaced out and the staff always remembers us! They're accommodating to our two year old and always so friendly. The food is amazing, the meatballs and garbanzo beans are a must. Never, ever disappointed! The last time we went here our daughter suddenly starting getting very upset because her ears were hurting. The staff all came out to help calm her down. When the food was ready they gave it to us in boxes because we needed to leave. They didn't act one bit annoyed or upset. Tried Caribbean food for dinner today. Very, very good all around. Small place that appears family owned. It's near downtown but off the beaten path so nice and quiet. My husband discovered this little gem before we met...I've now been 4-5 times and it is FABULOUS! Our friend Brian did a meet-up event there, which was my first experience. We ate there again last week. This is a tiny place; seats only 20 inside but also has lovely seating out front, and it's off the Avenue so nice and quiet. Being lovers of Caribbean food, the menu had our mouths watering, and the food did not disappoint. It's family run, and there's definitely love in every bite. The curry chicken is a favorite of mine, you can request level of heat. My husband had oxtail stew and deemed it every bit as good as the islands. The jerk meatballs are to die for. This time I also tried the conch fritters....delicious, and loved the dipping sauce with a kick! You MUST try their special lemonade, but don't expect an answer as to the secret ingredient! I am not going to wax poetical about Bamboo Fire Cafe, I am just going to tell you, that if you want to eat REALLY GOOD homemade Caribbean food, Caribbean style, you go here. People who know how to take life easy, to relax and enjoy your food and your dining experience, this is for you. The food is slow in coming and full of amazing flavours, so bring some charming company to pass the time. I reckon it's the best chicken curry I've eaten out in South Florida, ever. The family run charm of the restaurant is very engaging...when I ate there, the diners were obviously all regulars and the manager and chef (husband and wife) came around regularly conversing with them and catching up. Unique food with Caribbean flair, and a whole lot of flavor! I hadn't been back to Delray in quite a while, but from what I recalled, moat of the options on the Avenue tended to be overpriced and mediocre at best. I'm not saying that this is absolutely the case, just not necessarily the area I'd think of for a quality meal. So as my tummy started to rumble and dinner began to approach, I decided to do some research, and found the Bamboo Fire Cafe. While it isn't right on the main strip, it's not exactly a far trek either. The inside is cozy, filled with color, and radiates the island spirit. Exceptional staff went above and beyond to constantly make sure we were enjoying the experience and to make us feel at home. Upon seating we were brought a complimentary serving of spiced meatballs, which had just enough kick to be interesting without being intolerable for a heat-wimp like me. Don't worry though, for those spicy lovers they do have an entire hot sauce bar inside filled with a dizzying array of bright bottles all vying for your attention. Unfortunately they were out of their Calypso lemonade (I guess I'll just have to go back), but we were able to get an authentic Jamaican ginger beer instead, which did have plenty of strong ginger flavor with a nice dose of sweetness. To start with we ordered the grilled conch appetizer. Other reviews had recommend this option over the breaded conch fritters, and I have to say, they were spot on! With a nice char from the grill these conch were exceptional! A heaping portion of chewy, fresh meat in a scrumptiously savory garlic butter sauce with capers. I've had conch before, but nothing quite prepared me for how incredible it could be, by far some of the most tender and flavorful conch I've ever eaten, with a nice touch of saltiness! Next up were the entrees, and we went with the shrimp mac and cheese and a Curry Crab special. The mac was a unique take on your standard restaurant dish. Rather than using a boring boxed variety drowned in cheese sauce, tortellini were baked with lots of gooey real cheese, and then the bowl was served with succulent, perfectly cooked shrimp. As for the crab special, the sauce was tangy and interestingly spiced, with a stunning presentation in which we literally received an entire crab. They did give your standard seafood crackers, however even with mechanical aid the crab was a bit tricky to eat. This is probably not the best first date food, but if you don't mind getting your hands a bit dirty you're in for some seriously delectable meat. In addition to the star of the show, we were given very generous portions of a salad and some okra-fried rice with sweet plantains. Everything was delicious! By the end of the meal we were utterly stuffed and satiated, and there was still a bit of food leftover! I can't emphasize enough how jovial and helpful the staff were, and how much we thoroughly enjoyed the meal! Come soon and come often! read more

Really the only restaurant i care to go back to in Delray Beach Shrimp mac (more like tortelini), jerk meatballs, curry, jerk, roti, homemade hot sauce, even the side salad, so damn flavorful Only thing is judging by the other pictures & what I've ordered I'm almost positive they dont consistently give the same pieces of meat (e.g. i got a few little wings mixed in on my plate last time) & i waited a good 40 min before getting served, i hope cuz the food was fresh There's some small jamaican kitchens that do the traditional caribbean dishes better but as a whole this place is tough to top read more

We saw the Yelp! Reviews on the Bamboo Fire Café and pictures of the food, and have driven by many times and thought "I have to try that place." I am so glad we finally made time to go last night - the weather was not cooperating but the food was fantastic. Our table ordered a calypso lemonade, conch fritters, eggplant dip, curried tofu, and jerk chicken and pork. The jerk chicken and pork are smoked, and you can taste a light flavoring of that process underneath the seasoning. I am a fan. Each meal came with very fresh and light Caribbean salads, fried okra rice and the most delectable plantains any of us have ever eaten - hot right from the kitchen, crispy and caramelized on the outside and soft, sweet and hot on the inside. It was the sweet finish to an interestingly spicy and flavorful evening. I have to give it 5 stars because I appreciate when people create things and share them because that's what they love to do - and if you go there you will see these people love to share with their guests. Tip: For a party of 4 it was about $100 not including tip which included 4 meals 2 appetizers and lots of refreshments (because we ordered some things medium - spicy.) read more

I have never really had this kind of experience at a restaurant. We talked about seasonings and beers, etc. Cool place. Go spend money here. Often. curry goat - well seasoned, and tender. Mild taste to the meat, and not greasy. Very good. okra fried rice - A well prepared fried rice. Not greasy, fluffy, flavorful, well seasoned. Not a ton of okra in this, it is sliced thinly and used more as a flavorant. habanero hot sauce - A bit tart for my tastes but still decent. Pretty hot. ghost pepper hot sauce - Not as terrible hot as I expected, but definately still hot. Very good flavor, I prefer this sauce to the habanero. More balanced in flavor. jerk chicken - Great jerk taste, this was a freebie sample piece we were given. jerk pork - Same sample plate as the chicken, but the pork was outstanding. They lightly smoke it and the pork was very moist and tender, with a little smoke and alot of jerk taste. Really good. plantains - Best plantain I have had. Caramel/yellow color on the inside, orange brown with little crunchy bits on the outside. Ripe and very tasty. salad - Spicy and sweet. Good simple starter. Mango and spicy vinegrette pair well. grilled conch - It's true, you can hear them crack the conch soon after ordering. Beverly explained that they just grill them for about a minute on each side, then dress them on the plate. Surprisingly tender, cut with a butter knife, and was light and buttery. conch fritters - These were well prepared, very light, like an extra light beignet. Best restaurant I've been to in a long time. Small, family owned and operated- amazing food. Atmosphere was cozy, and we were welcomed like guests to a family dinner. The waitress, Lauren, was kind and engaging. She wanted to know my name- and meant it. Drinks and appetizers arrived quickly. We had Brazilian lagers, jerk meatballs and fried plantains. I don't eat meat but was told the jerk seasoning was REAL jerk seasoning. The fried plantains were excellent- as was the beer. The salads and dinners were also exceptional. I had the grouper grilled in banana leaves. The chef herself brought out the meal and chatted with us for a bit. Told us how she makes her rice and incredible salad dressing. This place is authentic fire! Just had dinner for the first time and holy cow it's fantastic!!!! The owner/chef bring Guayanese and Caribbean to true form. The Jerk Chicken is succulent, the meatballs are divine, and the okra fried rice creates the perfect balance to the spice.
