This is the second time I've ordered from this place and got sick from the food. The 2nd time I thought I'd be safe with just some shrimp fried rice. It must be their shrimp making me sick. About 12 -24 hours after eating it, I got a brassy taste in my mouth and had to run to the bathroom with diarrhea. I felt like I was going to throw up. I started perspiring profusely and got weak. So today I searched all over Broad Ripple and Castleton for some food. I wanted to satisfy my hunger without paying too much money. I decided to go to The Bamboo house. I ordered some chicken wings and fries, fried dumplings, and shrimp fried rice. The dumplings looked good, but the rice was a little dry. I was okay with that, but when I opened up the box of chicken wings... I got so angry. Instead of whole chicken wings like I normally get, they gave me small pieces of chicken. Now I love the young lady that is at the counter on Weekdays, she has already told me they don't want to see me order French fries because they don't know how to make them. Rude Asian lady took my order refused to make it even though they made it before. I've paid an up charge prior. I have no problem paying an upcharge. No problem paying the delivery charge but I will not be disrespected on the phone by someone I'm trying to give money to. I ordered takeout from Bamboo House on a weekday for dinner. I had it delivered to my house which didn't take too long. It arrived within a decent time, especially during rush hour. And it was hot when it arrived. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, which is a favorite of mine. It's what I always order when ordering Chinese food and Bamboo House's was phenomenal. I've been ordering from them during my time in college and it's much better than Chinese restaurants where I originally am from. The staff is very nice and friendly on the phone. They're very polite and helpful when ordering. They provide accurate delivery times and allow you to pay cash or card, which is very convenient. They know us after so many years of ordering from them so they always make sure to put in enough fortune cookies for all of our kids. Finding great Chinese takeout can be a difficult task but Bamboo was delicious. The young lady at the counter had great energy and was very kind. I have lived in IN going on 13 years now. Originally I'm from NJ/NY and have not had good Chinese takeout until now! And I compare all food to what I had in NJ/NY. The food was delicious, staff was courteous and taking Covid safety measures seriously. My only complaint was they handed my roommate the wrong order and charged him for it. And as he arrived they called me telling me my order was ready to be picked up, looked in the bag he brought home and sure enough was the wrong order. Best chinese delivery in Indy. Food is fresh, tasty...never that moment when you're eating chinese and delivery and you take a bite and go, "uh-oh....not sure what that was" and you just try to brush it off and forget it happened. They do exactly what you ask for and I'm pretty sure they're making their own egg rolls or they have the secret hook-up on the best vendor for frozen cause the only other place I know of with egg rolls this good is China Garden in Southport and Alex definitely makes his own. Will not be ordering again. I ordered yesterday for dinner. When the food got to me you could tell it wasn't fresh. The noodles and rice were dry and the beef in the beef n broccoli was so over cooked it snapped in half. Bamboo House offers cheap standard Chinese carry-out food. It can be a lifesaver when you want something more casual, in close distance, and with large portions. It is mainly focused on carry-out and delivery orders, not really a place you would go to dine-in. I've ordered the General Tso's bean curd, shredded pork with garlic sauce, hot & sour soup, dumplings, etc. Nothing was life-changing or unique, but the food was hot and fresh...and was easily spruced up with chili crisp and Sriracha. The portion sizes are huge and you can often get 2-3 meals out of one order. There are multiple families who work at Bamboo House, and you'll often see a kid hanging out in the dine-in area while mom/pop cook or deliver food...sort of charming. Regular customers are recognized and the customer service is prompt and friendly. There is a lot of parking, as the older mini mall it occupies is mostly vacant space. Bamboo House is a nice option when you get the craving for Chinese food, but don't want to put a lot of effort into satisfying it. read more

I ordered a quart of the Hot & Sour Soup (very good), a pint of the Egg Drop soup (ok), and the Steamed Chicken & Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables (good but not much shrimp). In the Broad Ripple/SoBro/Meridian-Kessler, King Dragon is the Chinese takeout of choice. But, as as resident of SoBro, I feel Bamboo House maintains the same quality of food, with the added bonus of delivery! The menu is standard, and this is NOT a bad thing. It has everything you would want. For you vegetarian consumers, all dishes can be made with tofu to replace the primary meat/protein listed on the menu. All the classics taste just as you want them too. The subtlety of the chow mei fun, the sweet and spiciness of the General Tso's, and the tanginess of the orange all contain the same taste bud stimulation you've always turned to. Bamboo house wins out for me for two reasons. Reason one is location. Located at 52nd and Keystone, its close, easy to access, and sits in a large parking lot. Complete convenience. And, if ease of pickup is still too much, they deliver! At this point, its hard NOT to want to order! Reason two is their flexibility in the menu. I can fully enjoy so many flavors and dishes that I previously couldn't, due to my animal-free diet. Literally just finished eating delivery from here. I couldn't find a menu online, so I called and sort of BS'd an order (General Tso's, rice, crab rangoon, and an egg roll). It was about $12 for all of that and I was stuffed before I got halfway through what they brought. The Tso's and rice was enough for two healthy people, there were 5 or 6 crab rangoon pastries, the egg roll was a good size, and it all came with soy sauce, duck sauce, sweet n' sour, and a fortune cookie. It also got here a lot quicker than expected. Now, in saying all that, I was originally going to give this a 3 star rating because 1) No menu online (they confirmed that the site was down when I called), 2) They weren't friendly AT ALL, and 3) Food quality was average (but not bad). This is our favorite Chinese place in Indy. It's not exactly for the food quality but for the great service. They are the only non pizza place that will actually deliver to us! Not even all pizza places will for some reason. They are always fast and consistent. As for the food it's the standard Chinese take out with no frills but sometimes that's what we are in the mood for. Actually probably more than we should. I've had them better around the area but they're decent. They are pretty fast in the front receptionist is always friendly. She always has a positive smile on her face. This is a family-owned establishment in the daughter is usually on the register. Kind of a limited buffet, but for $5.20 (2007's price) (includes drink, but not tax) for lunch, it's a heck of a deal. No salad bar, but they did have jello, a couple different canned fruits (pineapple and fruit cocktail), and orange wedges. And the hot items that they had on the steam trays were more than acceptable; and I'd even say very good, considering the price. I got there shortly after the lunch rush, and just had the buffet, but the food wasn't old. And people kept coming in for carry-out. The limited buffet, with it's low-low price, makes it mainly a fill-up-cheap place. But, ordering off the menu gets you more variety and quality. Their extended hours are good if you are in the neighborhood, until 10pm weeknights, and 11pm Fri/Sat. Their red and green colored menu has a lot more items than standard walk-up Chinese restaurants.
