We love Bamboo Sushi in Portland and we were SO EXCITED when we found out it was coming to Seattle. I had to make reservations for opening night, I *had* to. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. We popped in around 5, an hour before our reservation and although they were busy, they were able to seat us at the bar. In Portland, the locations are all different, from fancy to not so much. This one is nice, fancy and a totally different feel from the Bamboo vibe we are used to. Not saying this is bad, it's just a different version. Service was a little scattered (opening night) but overall super friendly and attentive. We ordered mainly off the happy hour menu and still managed to spend as much as if we hadn't, it was good though. Got the chef hand rolls (neggi toro with green onion- our favorite, crisp Nori, soft tuna, they don't skimp), the sunset roll (it was a little too heavy handed with the Sriracha for me), Friday the 13th roll (also too heavy handed with the sriracha), green machine roll (super good, fresh, crispy, smooth, sweet, different), the nigiri plate (4 pieces- fresh and really enjoyable) and by accident the cauliflower (sort of tossed in a buffalo sauce, topped with chopped cashews and it was good). Decided to give this place a try as I heard a lot of good things about it in Portland. We had double dates here and utilize their happy hour menu as well as their SRW menu and their regular menu.Our server was nice to explain some background about bamboo sushi and how ordering process work. SRW menu: Nigiri roll - I'm not a conousseur of nigiri so I thought it was ok, nothing special. The size was reasonable though. Kimono roll - this was interesting as it had shredded apples on top which made the roll more refreshing and interesting. Crispy cauliflower - probably my favorite out of the 3. It was lightly battered so it had that crispy taste and the sauce reminds you of Kung Pao chicken Happy hour menu: Karage - very good, juicy, crispy, nice flavor. A favorite at the table Shashito pepper - eh. It has bacon and those flakes you see on takoyaki but nothing really special Philly roll - I like the crispy texture of this Hand roll - eh, rice and salmon, nothing really stood out Service was kinda off, they didn't provide us with any soy sauce, ginger or wasabi with any of our dishes and we had to ask 3 times before it was given to us. We are so lucky to tried the hidden menu of the limited alaska wild salmon with wild mushroom bowl. It is delicious because the ingredient is fresh and mixed in a balanced way. The rice is the top grade with their siganature green sauce with it. The waiter there is very warm and they recommend the califlower, which is the staff's favorite. Great place to stop by when you're at UVill. The restaurant has a more high end vibe compared to your typical sushi restaurant and the prices definitely reflect that with special rolls ranging between $16-$22. We showed up around 7:30pm on a Wednesday and waited ~15min for a bar seat. Ordered the Hoki Poki Box (left) and the Garden of Eden (right). They were both very unique but not super memorable. I've had sushi here before and don't remember what I ordered but I do remember liking it more then the two we order this time. Food and service was quick once you got seated! Really liked Bamboo Sushi. It's sustainable fish were excellent which is not always the case when trying to be environmentally conscious. I enjoyed a miso Caesar salad which I highly recommend. TLDR: I don't recommend their food is mediocre at best and the service is just not worth it. WE WAITED FOR THREE HOURS FOR FOOD THAT WE DIDNT ORDER and were treated terribly. This restaurant is deserving of no stars but yelp doesn't allow that. Truly, my friends and I went to UVillage for dinner to celebrate the end of summer. We were seated quickly and ordered (1 burger, 2 crispy rice rolls, 1 plate of 5 scallops, 1 chicken karrage). It took about 30 minutes for the sashimi and karrage to come out. Not long after, my friend's burger came. Our waiter did not speak to us outside of ordering until an hour after we ordered too settle the bill. Only after my friend mentioned it, did he realize that we had not received the majority of our food (just some measly appetizers). After going to "check on something" he came back and asked us if we were certain that we did not receive our food because apparently someone sent our dishes back. OBVIOUSLY we did not or we would have happily paid and been on our way. Then after apologizing he promised to rush our orders. After another half hour, a manager approached us and told us we would not have to pay our bill aside from the burger our friend received. We were quite happy because that meant we would get our food soon right? Wrong. A half-hour later (two hours after we had been seated) a hostess (who was incredibly patronizing) informed us that the ingredients to make the stuff we ordered had run out. We ordered crispy rice rolls, what kind of sushi restaurant runs out of rice? Although the food we ordered will be comped, my friend and I have not gotten our meals. We were informed again that we could order anything and that they would comp it. We tried to order dessert because we were very hungry and ready to leave. Instead of taking our order, the waiter let us know that there would probably be an hours-long wait. Fast forward ten minutes, the table next to us receives their dessert despite being sat down a full hour after we had been waiting for our food. After our original orders were no longer available, we were asked to order different rolls. I ordered a "chasing the dragon roll", we got a "friday the 13th roll". At this point we had been there for 3 hours, starving and with food that we did not originally want (though I would have eaten anything at that point). I have no idea how terrible the management must be to mess up so many things in a row. Almost all the tables around us had been changed, we were the only patrons stil there from around 6:10, by the time we left it was 8:52 PM. The plate which served our appetizer has a plaque that says "restaurant of change" more like "restaurant of shitty service". This was a terrible experience as the sole Asian patrons in the restaurant (all the waiters and staff were white, all the people sitting around us that received their food were also white) it was really disappointing and frankly disparaging to see table after table served. read more

I'm settling on 3 stars for this review because I think this restaurant deserves different reviews based on food vs. service. I ate at Bamboo Sushi before the remodel and enjoyed the food but wasn't very impressed with the overall menu. With the new remodel they also improved their menu! We ordered cocktails to start which were very flavorful. I personally had the Kyoto X Jalisco and highly recommend it! For food we ordered the tuna poke, shrimp tempura, tuna crispy rice and Friday the 13th roll. All of the food was fresh and flavorful! Extra special since the entire menu other than the burgers is gluten free! As for the service, I was unimpressed. Our waiter was not very personable and messed up quite a few things with our order. We ordered shrimp tempura and received a shrimp tempura roll. After explaining the mix up, our shrimp tempura didn't arrive for another 30 minutes. I also ordered a second drink and the wrong one was brought out. When I explained the mix up again they didn't bring my new drink until after I paid for my bill. We were done eating within an hour of being there but spent almost 2.5 hours there total with all of the mixups. Overall, the food is worth the visit if you don't mind the subpar service! read more

If you have a small mouth, or like enjoying your sushi in one bite, this is not the restaurant for you. Not only is the sushi huge, it's so thin it falls apart easily and is hard to get into your mouth. Not to mention, when we ordered the shrimp tempura rolls, we received one plate with five pieces and another piece with six. In our first plate we'd been missing one of the shrimp tails! The only good food we ordered and enjoyed was the ginger chicken. I'd recommend any of the bowls. Moving on from the food, there were so many problems with the service. First off, there was a plate and cup that we're soiled on our plate and when we pointed it out to the server who brought us water, she immediately took the cup over to two other servers, pointing at us and laughing. Not to mention she was supposed to be bringing over wasabi and soy sauce and ended up not giving it to us at all. It is a bit spicy but the portion size is perfect and the quality of the sushi was amazing. We ordered a chirashi bowl and once again 10/10!! I loved the freshness of the fish! The one thing that was not tasty was the mock tail. The drink was made of cherry, berry juice, and egg whites. It was very sour and I expected it to be like a sweet sunrise mocktail. Went with some friends to this highly-rated spot on a Monday evening and had a great time! This spot markets itself as a sustainable sushi restaurant yet the prices were reasonable for Seattle. The ambience inside is wonderful for both medium-sized parties and date nights. We got sake and the cauliflower appetizer to share, which was delicious. Even though I am not vegetarian I opted for the Green Machine roll after recommendation from a friend and it was DELICIOUS! I'm so happy Bamboo Sushi has opened in Seattle (in U-Village, to be exact). As a person with a gluten allergy, sushi is tough. There are a lot of allergens hidden in the makings of a lot of sushi and it's so nice to be able to not have to worry as all of Bamboo's rolls are gluten free! They also have gluten free tempura!!! I previously had to go up to Vancouver, BC to find celiac safe tempura and with the border being closed due to the pandemic (especially) it's great to have a more local option. I love love love the green machine rolls (they have a few variations). Yum! The fish is all fresh and sustainably caught. I can't stress enough about how good they are at handling allergies. In our family we have to avoid gluten, dairy and egg and that can be tough with sushi rolls. They have always gone above and beyond with leaving things off or substituting other things so we can still experience delicious rolls! I've had nothing but good experiences both pre-Covid and during Covid. Prior to covid, the waitstaff was friendly and mostly attentive. Now that it's just take out, it's incredibly easy to order online and pick up at their window. I believe they are currently closed "for renovation" and have a vague mention of opening spring 2021 and that can't come soon enough for me! read more

Had one really good and one really bad experience here so hit or miss. I like all the gluten free stuff and the food is great the first time I went with a friend. But today I asked to sit on the patio on the side further away from the loud music coming from the bar next door, and I put my arm on the table and it got stuck in something super sticky and after a good bit, nobody came to take my order (person on other side of patio who came in about the same time had water and drinks) so I just headed out and had ice cream for dinner, since my phone was dying after a long day and I figured I'd be waiting quite a bit longer and didn't want to be trapped without it.
