    Came back for a second time after our wonderful first experience. Sushi Taiyo has only gotten better! They've expanded their menu to include a tuna dinner in addition to the salmon dinner. It was incredibly delicious, and called back memories of fresh tuna sushi in Japan. Great pricing at $47 for a roll, 6 pieces of nigiri, and 4 pieces of sashimi. The dinners also come with miso soup now which is a very nice touch and also a callback to our recent Japan trip. The servers are attentive and kind, and the place tends to fill up by around 6 PM on a Friday. I like that all tables have a view of the sushi counter. Their Japanese beer selection is great as well. I would highly recommend to all sushi lovers in Seattle!

    This place just opened recently and so far the food was great! Love the vibes and the menu is good. We ordered a dragon roll, caterpillar roll, salmon roll, miso soup, tamagoyaki, fish roe. We didn't have to wait so much for the food which is nice. The staff was awesome. We came in on a Sat late afternoon and not alot of people at that time. They only have street parking but we found one beside the restaurant which is nice.

    I was excited to check out Sushi Taiyo as it recently opened, but it was underwhelming. I ordered emperor roll (spicy crab salad, cucumber, pickled radish, topped with seared fatty tuna, seared salmon, spicy mayo, green onion) to go. The roll came in a plastic container that's way too big. They put the container inside a plastic bag. It was nice that the bag had a handle, but if I hold the handle to carry it, the container became slanted and the rolls were moving around all over. I hope they switch to a container that fits the rolls better, like the small rectangular ones that a lot of sushi places use. That was off to a rough start, but when I opened the food, I was even more disappointed. The said seared salmon and fatty tuna pieces on top of the sushi were tiny indistinguishable pieces. There was too much rice for the amount of fish they put in the roll. They put too much spicy mayo on top and the sauce diminished flavors from other items inside the roll. To finish off, it was my bad that I didn't realize there was pickled radish, but I thought having the pickled radish in the roll was just bad taste. I see that they had futomaki in the earlier opening days but I wonder why they decided to ditch it. I'd much rather have that with maybe kampyo inside. The portion of the roll was too small for the price of $21. I was hungry after a few hours. Maybe their main sell is omakase. I'm probably not going back after this.

    Stopped by for an 8:15 reservation and noted quickly they were understaffed, as it took a number of minutes for the waitress to even acknowledge us (and it's a relatively small restaurant). After another wait we received menus and ordered a bottle of kurosawa nigori sake. We did two orders of the omakase, which by the end of the night we realized should have just been 1. It was 14 pieces of sushi, with the first part of the order arriving at 9:02pm (slightly after their closing time). It was probably 20 minutes after that that we received the second part of the order. My heart goes out to the overwhelmed undergrad who was bouncing between the tables, and they were kind enough to offer us complimentary miso soup for the wait. The bites ranged from "decent" to "all right" to "regrettable", with the lowlights being the unbearably fishy mackerel nigiri and the texturally unpleasant squid nigiri. The amberjack nigiri was the most pleasant, but I was surprised at how "just okay" the king salmon and fatty tuna were--usually these are the easy wins. Most of the nigiri were very room temperature and had a cheap texture to them (more resistance than expected when biting through). The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, with the tables being clean and the lights dimmed low. There were notably no typos on the menu and there seemed to be a good amount of variety in their options. Tempted to add a third star simply because it's their soft opening and they're likely still getting the hang of things, but I wouldn't recommend or dine here, even if a friend invited me to--not for another 6 months, at least. Lots of room for growth in the food and service, and hopefully they catch their stride in the coming months

    I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The service is amazing. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu, which was extremely appreciated. We ordered the salmon dinner, seared salmon belly nigiri, sunrise salmon roll and miso soup. The salmon dinner is an amazing value. The rolls are generously sized and you get a decent amount of fish on each piece of nigiri! My husband was so happy with the quality of the fish. The seared salmon belly was probably the best piece of sushi I have ever had. It's smoky and literally melts in your mouth. You need to try this if you visit! The sunrise salmon roll was HUGE. They load it with the crab salad, avocado and seared salmon on top. It was so tasty! Sushi Taiyo is conveniently located on Stone Way. It is on the smaller side, but it feels cozy on the inside. It is pretty casual and we felt very welcomed & comfortable. This is probably the best sushi you will have in Seattle and it is 100% worth the visit. We are already talking about our next visit here. So excited that we have amazing sushi nearby!

    We saw that this sushi place finally opened and decided to try. It was very crowded for a soft opening. There was a wait for the table and the food, which is understandable. Glad we waited because we were blown away by the food in a good way. Having tried many Japanese restaurants and omakase in many places, I will say their fish is top notch! We ordered Chirasi and it is like not your typical mediocre bowl. This Chirashi comparable with the $$$ Japanese restaurant but for a better deal. We were too excited for the food and the presentation that we forgot to take the photo for other dishes and the Omakase that we ordered. We definitely will return back and try more dishes.

    This sushi place is new and as such I will start with the positives. The ingredients appear to be very fresh and of high quality. The sushi was cut very cleanly and presented very neatly- as shown in my, albeit poorly shot, photos. I did not confirm by asking, but I am fairly positive they use real wasabi which is a huge plus in my book. Seattle is home to hundreds of Sushi restaurants, and in that context it is difficult to say anything in particular stood out in my experience here from the food, value, ambiance, or service. I ordered the $77 14-pc omakase which does not come with any soup which I found unusual, and does not include uni as they do not carry it at this restaurant- also atypical. My favorite piece was the salmon, I believe sockeye, with its deep color and flavor and tender meat. The amberjack was a close 2nd. The wasabi they served had a light color, grainy texture, and mild but complex flavor which is why I'm positive they use real wasabi. Not many places offer this. My friend ordered the Chirashi bowl which seems like a much better deal if you care for value. Half the price of the omakase while containing nearly all the same fish options. Another positive was the sake I tried on an impulse. I've not had it before, and everyone in my party enjoyed it very much. I normally prefer dry sakes. This one was floral without being overwhelming and incredibly smooth. I've attached a photo. I'm hesitant to include this last part. Due to a misunderstanding, we were short 1 omakase which normally would not be a big deal, but I could not help but to notice the food takes unusually long to prepare here compared to comparable sushi restaurants. I ordered "2 omakase, 2 chirashi bowl, 1 miso soup." The server thought my partner and I would share 1 omakase. I would never think to do this, and I'm not quite sure how you even would do this effectively. By the time I received my order, the rest of my party had long since finished their food, and 2 rounds of drinks. 38 minutes. For context, when we arrived we were 1 of 2 tables, but in fairness several more parties came in after us. I cannot honestly say this didn't taint my experience, but I hope the rest of my review stayed relatively unbiased. I'm not trying to cry a river about a simple mistake, just noting it affected my experience and made the prep time more apparent. I also understand that they are essentially brand new. In my experience, sushi can be very subjective, and so everyone should give this place a chance.

    Went here on their soft opening week, and had a wonderful time. This place has great sushi for a great price! I can tell they source their fish well because of how fresh it tasted. We had the delightful roll and the emperor roll, and both were really delish. Also had the chutoro nigiri and it was very good and fresh. The place was nice and bright, good ambuance. Service was great and friendly. When we came there were a few people but the service was pretty fast. Will definitely come back here again!

It was ok to combine the skewers because they're so tiny, but the wings were almost falling off the plate they were on and very close to being a bad jenga situation with how they were placed.

Ambiance was middle of the road, neither loading ramp nor dark and cozy. They only have tables and counter seating, no booths. Of note, there is a bar across the street where they made a couple of nice after dinner cocktails - the better part of the evening.

The tender octopus with the bright cucumber that made it feel like the perfect palate opener. The seaweed salad was equally satisfying. It was fresh, and full of that sweet flavor that hits exactly right. Altogether, this was a dinner that felt fresh, vibrant, and deeply satisfying.
