    Chicken Katsu
    Myrnie T.

Very delicious! Food was great, if a bit salty, and perfect for a drizzly spring day. I had the curry udon chicken katsu because I didn't want to make a choice and it had everything in it haha. Katsu was super crisp, udon was bouncy, rice was perfect. He ordered the chicken katsu don and I'm not certain we got the right dish because he ended up with udon and katsu? Regardless, it was delicious.

This is the second time I've been to this restaurant. Both occasions have been very pleasant. The first time I came around 7pm, it was packed. Today I arrived at 5pm and I am the only person here (both visits were on random weekdays). I ordered the spicy white tuna poke and a nigori - both were very tasty. The restaurant is clean and the staff have been very friendly.

It wasn't super busy on a Tuesday evening, but it is also the summer so there aren't many students around. We got seated fairly quickly and the workers were nice. The curry pork loin katsu was pretty good and the portion size was enough for a full meal. The katsu was super crispy and delicious! I also got a rainbow roll and a piece of sake salmon. I will say the prices for the fish do feel a bit pricey when compared to other places in the area. The sake salmon was quite large and fatty, so I think it can make up for the price. The fish I tried all were flavorful and delicious, so I enjoyed the food overall. The servers were nice but they never noticed to refill our water even though we were there for a while. Otherwise they were great!

Very clean, very fresh food. Friendly service and excellent suggestions! Sushi tacos were great!-two different styles. Not yet on menu! Nice upscale but unimposing decor, pleasant background music. Terrific flavors. Sushi tacos were my favorite! Hope they make it to menu soon!

    Caterpillar roll and Inari

The gentleman at the counter was very kind and welcoming as well as highly efficient. We just grabbed some take out and it was ready pretty quickly. The ambiance was nice and spacious too. I had the caterpillar roll and Inari and then my partner had the shrimp tempura roll. We both liked our rolls and felt the quality was good and fresh and traveled quite well. It was also well packaged.

We ordered the west coast roll and the dynamite roll, as well as 2 salmon sushi. The salmon sushi was okay but wouldn't recommend - it was served with a lot of rice so we couldn't really taste the salmon very well. West coast roll was pretty good - salmon quality was to be expected at the price point. I really enjoyed the dynamite roll. Food came out quickly, so if you're in the area craving sushi and want it fast, Yu Sushi would be a good option!

A Chinese family opened this Japanese restaurant. The food was surprisingly good. I like the baked sushi, which is called Lion King. The katsu and sashimi was just okay.

    Udistrict food walk - katsu

Came here for the udistrict food walk although this place seemed to participate unofficially. We couldn't help but wait in the line for a $2 katsu. Even with so much going on that day, the people working the orders were fast and pleasant. The bang for buck was 100% there, was a solid little strip of katsu, and the katsu sauce on it was tangy and not too sweet either.

My new favorite sushi place on the Ave! I will say that there's not much variety to the rolls, but overall fresh tasting and delicious sushi rolls and a nice interior!

Good sushi spot on the ave, just a nice spot to check out and sit down if you're craving sushi on campus. Nothing to write home about, the sushi was good. I want to try the udon and katsu/curry next. The table next to me ordered the curry and it looks delicious! Cute decorations and the lady in the front was very nice.

    Curry Chicken Katsu.

Came here on a friday night and it was not busy at all. Ordered the curry chicken katsu and it was exactly what I wanted. The curry was strong which went well with the rice and the chicken. Side salad was decent. Food came out quickly and the service was good. They gave me a container of water for the table.

We opted for the 16pc Chef's Choice Sushi Course, which consisted of 4 courses. For the first course, we were served Albacore, Flounder, Sea Bream, and Black Snapper, which were excellent. The cuts of fish were great, and I appreciated the server advising where we should skip the soy sauce. The second course was Amberjack, Striped Jack, and 3 different Salmon varieties. As a salmon lover, I especially enjoyed this part! The fourth course consisted of Bluefin Tuna served 4 ways (all delicious) and the final course had Chopped Fatty Tuna, Eel, and Tamago. This last one was probably my least favorite, and the Tamago was different than normal, almost pastry-like. However, the overall experience was awesome, and we were very full by the end. A pricey but delicious dinner!

I wish they had more cold tea options for the summer and more non-alcoholic drinks in general, but still had a great experience. The fish selection is fresh and the pieces are very manageable. It feels like there is a local touch with the salmon course/pieces. My husband is left handed and I was very impressed our waiter noticed and adjusted accordingly. I especially loved their soy sauce (which they said was house made). Fun little date night out and we really did enjoy it. Highly recommend making a reservation as that is what we did.

Since my birthday fell on a Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have Chef Shiro Kashiba himself behind the counter preparing and serving our meal. The entire experience was incredible. The service was organized, attentive, and made the evening feel truly special. Chef Shiro Kashiba is knowledgeable, entertaining, and incredibly passionate about his craft. With every course, from salmon and tuna to white fish, mackerel, shellfish, and eel, he explained how each piece should be eaten, where the fish was sourced, and even shared personal stories from his career. It felt like he was telling a story through every piece of sushi he prepared, making the experience both captivating and unforgettable. Chef Shiro Kashiba is truly inspiring. It was also wonderful to see that everyone seated at our counter had traveled from out of state just to experience his omakase, which speaks volumes about his reputation. This was, without a doubt, the best sushi omakase experience I've ever had. The fish was exceptionally fresh, and every bite was thoughtfully prepared. The flavors were unlike any sushi I've had before and gave me a whole new appreciation for how extraordinary sushi can be when it's crafted by a chef with such deep knowledge and experience. I love this concept. I'm not much of a roll person bc it's always pricey and then you have to eat all 6-8 pieces, so this was right up my alley. We loved it so much, we came here 2x when we were in Seattle. And even our first time we had to get seconds. All the sushi from the beginning are rolls, and near the end they are nigiris. So save some space for the good stuff at the end. The first time during lunch hour, they kept restocking the sushi, and they even had bluefin tuna nigiri at the very end! Score!! I'm more of a nigiri person so I got half rolls and half nigiri. Of course this isn't like fancy restaurant sushi, but more of like casual dining sushi and bc there were so many people, it was fresh bc it was a high turnover. Sushi quality was decent. Reminded me of just like an AYCE sushi quality. You won't get sick, but don't expect Jiro Dream of Sushi quality here. lol. The other time we went was during dinner of 1 hour before they close, the selection wasn't as good as they didn't have bluefin tuna nigiri, but still worth it and didn't cost us an arm and leg to get sushi. I hope someone catches this concept in San Diego! It's so clever. Love it and would love to come back again.

They don't take phone calls or reservations online - very old school. Which I think makes it more desirable. We ended up getting a special room with a "chabudai" style table! What I did find pleasant was that although it was a lower table, there was an opening beneath the table that allowed your legs to hang rather than having to sit Indian style. Tyson was an amazing server. Was attentive, accommodated our allergies and was thoughtful with us having a young child. He was so pleasant and polite! We enjoyed the following: Baked miso glazed eggplant - YUM and melts in your mouth. Black Miso Cod Collar - this was pleasantly surprising and so delicious. Eat bite was tender and flavorful. Simple yet so appetizing. Sushi rolls were both fresh and well prepared. The nigiri was also great and fresh- not fishy.
