Been here a few times, it seems each time the experience gets worse and worse. Made dinner reservations at 1710 as their hours say they open at 5. Get there and there are many tables already with food!!! Many on their main or final course. Now how does that work. I have worked in kitchens and there is no way, unless they actualy open at 430, or let patrons in early. Glad I made reservations as it started filling up, and fast. There have been times when i did not make a reservation, and had to sit there for over an hour waiting for tables to clear/people to leave. Was offered water, yet a quarter of my glass ended up on the table, and the busser/hostess made no notice, as she did not say anything. So I wiped it up [aka smeared it around table with non absorbent table linens they offer] until it sort of dried. Got to have wet linen all through dinner. Server arrived and read through specials so fast it was difficult to remember everything (this night they offered 5, typically have only had 3). Good thing we knew what we wanted. Siam beef and pistachio crusted halibut. Beef was amazing. Cooked perfectly, not rubbery nor chewy. Sauteed vegetables had the perfect amount of char on them. The fish however; ... Fish itself was a beautifully sized portion, and had a good amount ot thickness to it, not some flat pounded out piece of fish made to look larger. The sauce was NOT good. I suppose it was meant to be a creamy, coconutty enhancement to the vegetables and halibut, but it was not. It had a cloyingly thick feel to it, and at the same time tasted reminiscent of a hollandaise made from a packet. There was a slight coconut flavor, and at the same time a plastic undertone, like some coconut milk can acquire. I literally had to avoid the sauce as I feel it did not compliment the fish at all. This rotating fish special is usually really good!!! Sometimes it has pistachos, others macadamia nuts or hazelnuts. The sauce needs some attention, though. Also, this place needs a dress code. All in all, i will probably return, well, maybe. read more

My wife and I went here on a Tuesday evening hoping that no reservation was ok and we almost had to go somewhere else. They were packed. I advise a reservation no matter the day. Even though they were busy the wait staff did a great job. The ambiance is leaning towards a modernistic Asian feel. The food overall I would classify as Asian fusion. We started with the tiger roll and fried calamari. Both were excellent. My wife wasn't real hungry so she ordered a side of sauteed vegetables and I ordered a buckwheat noodle dish with Bok Choy. The dish was definitely a fusion but it worked well. When we come back to Medford this place is definitely worth another visit. Sitting at the bar is a real treat because you get to watch them cook. Have been coming here for years and feel that this place has been one of the most consistent restaurants in Medford. Service is good, they can be a little slow but only when slammed and you don't see people standing around not doing something so they truly are working hard. The service team does a great job. The food is really delicious, and the specials are always unique and so perfectly cooked. My husband and I haven't been back in a long time and we finally came by last week. My relatives live nearby and they introduced me to the "BAMBU" restaurant. We made reservations and sat at our table in a timely manner. The meal was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed two different curries, chicken and seafood (spicy level optional). Plus, chicken Katsu and Korean BBQ beef. The staff was attentive and polite. I like Bambu. It's more 'upscale,' so it's a nice place to go on a Friday or Saturday evening. I love their green beans- they're great. I get them every time, so I can't comment on any other entree. If you're not a freak like me who enjoys eating a huge plate of green beans for dinner, they also have a nice selection of fish and noodles on their menu. We find ourselves returning again and again to Bambu. The food is high quality, super tasty, satisfying, and you actually feel good when finished, not heavy and weighed down like elsewhere. Service is wonderful, and we always feel welcome and appreciated. We like the upscale, yet not pretentious, vibe, and value the attention to detail, from the classy menus to the well dressed employees to the lovely artwork on the walls. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and they have delicious vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Highly recommend. This place was EXCELLENT for a Medford area restaurant... Food had an amazing taste, service was fast and friendly, prices are affordable averaging $15 per entree and the restaurant has a classy, relaxed, upscale vibe. I would recommend trying the chef specials for a meal and the fried banana dessert sounds weird but was sooo good! I'm not one for fried foods either! And oh yea.. The tiger rolls are to DIE for!!! Bambu has wonderful food when you eventually get it. The service is very slow and the waitresses and even the hostesses are on the verge of condescending. The food is fresh & made to order but portion size can be extremely inconsistent especially with the garlic chicken & the Shanghai baby back ribs. We've received very good portions on occasion and then when we ordered it again have received about 1/2 of what we received the previous time which is so unfortunate considering the prices. I've resorted to ordering take-out when I have a Bambu craving but have been left on hold for 25 minutes and then when I tried calling back, the hostess had left the phone off the hook and I was never able to get thru. I actually sent a fax to let them know they had left me on hold but I had never received a response from anybody regarding the service issues. I know somebody who used to work there and she stated that I need to compose an email to the owners to let them know about my experience with my lunch order because she assured me that the owners wanted to know stuff like that because they were always trying to improve. I did as she recommended and never heard anything back. Either the owners just don't care because they are so busy or they just simply don't care. I'm not sure which. It's a shame that the service is so poor now considering how wonderful the whole experience used to be when they were in their first 5 years of operation. They catered an event I attended. They had menus sitting out and I took one. I can't believe what they charge. Outrageous prices for mediocre food. Stopped in for dinner on a Friday night, and was quite surprised. Have been hearing a lot of good things about the restaurant in the last few years. We thought the food was all about quality and taste, as most Asian restaurants in the area are all about perceived value through quantity in serving size. Service was good, food presentation was excellent. However, this place has limited seating, reservations are a must. We went at 5 PM and it was packed within 15 minutes. The tiger rolls are a must! They were every bit as delicious as we had read about, if not more so...if that is even possible! The food and service is great. The staff at Bambu were there when we needed them, but not over our shoulders. Just the right amount of attentiveness. My husband had the crying tiger while I ate the pad thai with shrimp. Everything was very tasty. I also like that they offer you plates for sharing, the portion sizes of the meals could easily feed two or more. This is a preliminary review. Let me start by stating that I will most likely go back and try more things; also, I went during the lunch hour, so that could be why I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. Now, onto the review. I had the Chicken Pad Thai and the Tiger Roll. The Tiger Roll was DELICIOUS. I mean, REALLY delicious. My only issue was that it was ONE roll, about the size of an egg roll, for $7. I, personally, think that $3.95 would be a fair price, at lunch time, especially, even taking into consideration that this is a more "upscale," "different" restaurant for Medford. I was not impressed with the Chicken Pad Thai. I did NOT like the thin noodles; they reminded me of Pasta Roni. It is mostly noodles, too, so there weren't a lot of other, more interesting flavors or textures to compensate. I do, however, think that this could be an excellent dish with a bit of tweaking :) The hazelnut-crusted mahi mahi with mango coconut cream sauce was AMAZING. I do think it needs a vegetable other than the cucumber salad, though, to balance it out just a tiny bit. I like that their water is flavored with cucumber. Refreshing! Like I said, I plan to go back at dinner and see if it's a bit more of what I was expecting. Still a good place, on the right track, with a soothing, relaxing atmosphere and lots of pretty things to look at. I would have rated it a 2.5 star, simply because I was REALLY disappointed with the Pad Thai...but that wouldn't be fair, considering that everything else was pretty good. read more

This place seems super popular and is always busy which is SUPER surprising. I've worked in the same plaza for years and have tried bamboo SEVERAL times. Every time I go I regret it. For one their portions are ridiculously small and comical. Two the profit compared to food cost is heinous, the prices are hysterically high. Their "Pad Thai" is an insult to thai cuisine. It's spaghetti noodles with soy sauce... nothing that resembles pad Thai. This place is a joke and I have no idea why they're thriving. This place is amazing! I found it thanks to a friend that raved about it. I tried it on my last business trip to Medford so I knew where I was going for dinner this time around. The Cantonese salmon is simply amazing. I got it last time and could not risk trying anything else. Super flavorful and seems very healthy since it is served on a bed of steamed spinach and over some delicious broth. Lots of garlic too. I also tried the calamari and it was also, one of the best I've ever had. Big portion too, which was bad since I was alone. Service was excellent and the outdoor patio was lovely. Chris took excellent care of me. She was attentive and thoughtful. I will be back on my next trip south! read more

This used to be a really great place. I don't know what is going on there, but I have sent dishes back twice in the last 3 months. To charge the prices they do, they need to deliver on service and product every time. Tonite, when I returned my entree, the waitress, who didn't show up until we had to ask someone to 'bring over the waiter', said 'no one else complained about this dish tonite'... oh. Great response to a customer who literally couldn't slide thru the baby back ribs with a steak knife-they-were-so-tough. Bye bye. Oh my goodness! I have to absolutely rave about this place! I have no complaints about this restaurant other then it's spendy but so incredibly worth it! You walk in and instantly smell the delicious food, you're greeted by someone who has great manners. The waitress we had was slammed and was still taking care of everyone with a smile on her face and was incredibly polite. Our food was done perfectly and oh so delicious, pretty good wine selection and they use the correct wine glasses for each type of wine. Which if you're a wino like me, you appreciate that. We DO love this place. My wife eats a vegan diet, and this is the one restaurant where they don't blink an eye. It's fresh, creative, simple and DELICIOUS!! Friendly staff (we happen to particularly love Chelsea,) super location and great ambience. We like to sit outside when it's warm, and will sit at 'the counter' when we don't have reservations so we can watch the creative chefs. We tried Bambu for a long overdue date night. It was Wednesday and we arrived 30 minutes before closing but after waiting just a few minutes we got a great table outside by the fountain (outdoor seats were uncomfortable for eating, better for relaxing). Hubby LOVED the Korean beef! It was a perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked flank steak. I tried the Bambu Pad Thai and it was a huge serving. Enough for two dinners. The flavor was great but it needed some sauce on the side which wasn't offered until I asked. (We hadn't even received soy.) The only disappointment was the chicken in the pad thai, it was ground chicken and it was dry, but there was plenty of it. I would have enjoyed more vegis in there. read more

I hate giving poor reviews but Im very disappointed. Im new to the area from the east coast. I figured why not try some thai here. My first mistake was that I didn't yelp this place to see reviews before getting an order. I got the chicken pad thai. I figured no thai place can ruin pad thai so I kept it simple with that. I was very wrong. The first thing i noticed was the noodles looked like angel hair instead of flat thin rice noodles. Next, the chicken was chopped to smithereens like it should be used for laab instead . And worst of all- no side of peanuts. All of the sauce was at the bottom of the container instead of coating the noodles.. and to top it off, when I started to fold the noodles around there were SLICED JALAPEÑOS in the pad thai itself. I have never seen this at any thai restaurant in my life(and I have been to plenty). Thank God there was a container of white rice thrown in to go because I wouldn't have dinner. I haven't given up on finding good thai food in Southern Oregon but I do not plan on returning to this restaurant. read more
