I came into the restaurant at 5:24 this evening (without a reservations-I know, it's rude) with a party of 3 (friends were on their way) and was told the earliest I could be seated was 8pm. I sat down in the waiting area to text my my friends the updated information and to my surprise hear the hostess (girl with pink braided hair) answer a call and make a reservation for 6:45pm tonight. Confused, I decide to ask but she was called away by another group checking in so instead I took it upon myself (apparently I need an intervention to deal with my issues of being rude) to take a quick peek at the "book of reservations" sitting openly on the hostess stand and it was for a party of 4! There are many scenarios and explanations that could be interjected at this point but suffice it to say I felt slighted and a little perturbed. Especially since as I was walking out (because by this time said friends had arrived) another group came in, also without a reservation and some type of manager (a little older woman with brown hair in a bun) and were offered seating at the counter! Needless to say (but I will say it anyway) we decided to dine elsewhere. I give 2 stars because for Medford the food is okay. I've been to Bambu quite a few times and will probably go back at some point because I've enjoyed the atmosphere. I have tried Bambu a few times now over the last few years, and each time I am even more disappointed. The food is super bland, and overpriced for what it is. The calamari was decent, but the Thai shrimp curry dish that I ordered lacked flavor completely. I barely touched it, and the waiter did not question this when she took it from the table, which is always weird. The tables are also super close together, so you feel like you are eating dinner with your neighbor, and basically sitting in the walk way. This is such a disappointment because we are starving for restaurants on this side of town. read more

In the Asian food desert that is the Rogue Valley, Bambu's Asian Fusion cuisine stands out as the best we have tried. The place is small, so make your reservation. The food was delicious. Appetizers of Dim Sum and the Honey Walnut Shrimp were amazing and our entrees (Country Curry, Sweet and Spicy Fish, and Tiger Cries) were all well prepared and tasty. The service was horrendous. The one server, two managers, and hostess were oblivious to anyone but one table of four. With a hardly packed restaurant of less than 20 people and plenty of open tables, it's hard for me to understand as a former server and bartender how service can be so lackluster. The waitress struggled with knowing the specials and my small party of 3 was ignored completely during our meal. Zero check-ins to see how the food was tasting. It would have been fantastic to get some more rice to finish the curry, but why wait another 45 minutes to have our existence recognized in their restaurant. Zero beverage service (we ran out probably five minutes into the meal), even placing the empty glasses and carafe on the end of the table. Bussing took another 15 minutes after we had finished and only because we flagged the waitress down for the bill. Never have I seen so many people struggle with so few a crowd in a restaurant, especially for somewhere that's so ranted and raved about as Bambu. I'm utterly disappointed that this is what they have to offer on a Friday night. If I could give just a food review, it'd be about 4.5 stars. That's the only thing saving this restaurant from the abysmal service's one star rating. read more

My friend recommended this place and I finally went because my favorite restaurant was closed. I travel for business. The only reason I'm giving this restaurant two stars is because it has some charm in the decor. Otherwise I'm really not sure why there's a line out the door for this place on a Monday night. First of all the service was awful I came in with no reservation but say at the bar , nobody could figure out who would serve me Ffinally , I had a waiter who came over and gave me a huge list of specials . This made me question the place right off the bat. I chose the arugula salad special with mango and the green beans with TOFu. I got the salad probably within 10 to 12 minutes which is fine. And then had to wait for my meal for 25 minutes and when it came it was not what I ordered it came with chicken. Let's talk about the food briefly, The salad was doused in dressing and sliced mangoes the green beans were drowned in a curry sauce. It looked like somebody just boiled the beans and dumped them in a bowl of curry sauce that's pre- prepared and then put some dry chicken breast pieces into it and then sprinkled the top with some crushed peanuts. Wow , chicken was under seasoned and in need of salt , but boy if I had to ask for salt , I may have been here until tomorrow, it took them 25 minutes to bring me the check after I asked for the first time was 15 and then 10 minutes when I asked for the second time. Sorry it's just really disappointing when your expectations are really high and when the restaurant is this pretentious to be high-class. I won't be coming back. read more

Bambu has blown a breath of fresh air into the Medford dining scene, and I for one must say that it has been one of the best dining experiences I've ever had the pleasure to pay for. I attended last night for the second time while celebrating my new dream job and I must say...it is consistently amazing. The entrees are simply a work of art. I enjoyed some Hawaiian Paco Paco over roasted vegatbles in a Passion Fruit and Coconut cream sauce. The sweetness of the coconut blended seamlessly with the tartness of the Passion Fruit and the fish was some of the freshest I've had in Medford. Bambu's jasmine rice is beautifully steamed and flavorful, no soy sauce needed. The chicken curry wontons were elegantly prepared and were served with a sweet orange sauce in addition to a great spicy sauce that had more than a mouthful of flavor. The tea is freshly brewed and quite tasty and the water is pure. The service team at Bambu is excellent, they made sure everybody's glass was overflowing and were some of the nicest restaurant staff I've ever met. In conclusion, if you're looking for some very well priced, high quality fine dining with a great atmosphere, don't hesitate for a second. Go to Bambu. You will not be disappointed. read more

Wow, this place is pretentious! Don't get me wrong, it seems like a great place to grab drinks with coworkers... but that's it. The food was awful. The chef likes to "experiment", I guess. None of it was any good, lukewarm, bland, or weird flavors. The Pad Thai was bizarre - wrong noodles, wrong sauce. But the reason I would give them ZERO stars if I could is this - on their website they specifically say they cater to food allergies and requests. My son has a life threatening peanut allergy. I told the waitress this as soon as she greeted us. She assured me none of the meals we ordered contained peanuts. When the food was delivered (by someone else) I asked again if there were any peanuts and explained about the allergy. He didn't know. He spent five minutes checking, came back and told me one of the dipping sauces had crushed peanuts in it. no apology, no offer to remove it, nothing. Just walked away. Atrocious behavior. Will never return or recommend based on that alone. It helps that the overpriced food sucked anyway. read more

I went to lunch with my best friend and 3 year old son. We have never been. Noticed, wow super busy! So we waited...no big deal. Then, everyone who got seated after us had their drink orders taken...no one came to us for another 20 minutes. Didn't bring my son water, or a fork the whole time. We saw the waitress literally 3 times. Everyone that got there after us was done before us. My food was "eh" very bland. The Teriyaki chicken my son got was very dry. Not impressed! The sizes are so small you get about a half a cup of rice with a half a cup of curry or whatever dish you order. Not like a really Thai food restarting at all. Super disappointed!! I had planned to get takeout but the phone experience was so poor I cancelled our order! First time I called, it rang and rang. Second time, a woman answered and then I was hung up on. Third time, a guy answered and took my order. I asked to sub rice noodles for wheat in a noodle dish and when he asked the chef the answer was no, which surprised me, but I went ahead and changed to a rice dish. Then he called back saying they were out of the fish I ordered and a different fish was replacing it. That was when I canceled the order. I have to say, I was skeptical because I am not an asian food kind of guy. We arrived and were seated right away with no reservation.....granted it was Wednesday. We ordered the tiger rolls and the special with 4 spring rolls. The tiger rolls were outstanding, the spring rolls didn't disappoint either and there was a soy mustard sauce that I could eat on anything. We ordered and my wife ordered the pad thai with shrimp and I ordered the crying tiger. I am not a pad thai eater so I didn't taste it, but the wife assured me it was excellent. My dish was a flank steak cooked to perfection with grilled onions and tomatoes, the sauce it came with, a lime, cilantro, garlic and maybe ginger, was excellent, but I couldn't resist going back to the soy mustard sauce. A bowl of jasmine rice was provided with our main course. I would highly recommend this place. Like I said, not a big asian food guy, but I would go here again anytime. Staff was pleasant, friendly and you could tell they liked the food they were serving. A definite add to the approved restraunt list. read more

The food here is really good and so is the service! You can tell how good a restaurant is by how packed it is on an off night. I would recommend always making a reservation. My go to dish is the Indonesian noodle bowl. Unique flavor with udon noodles, pork, and shrimp. Great outside seating adds the perfect touch to a dinner date. read more

Disappointing. Food was bland. Garlic chicken had most flavor. Soba salad was just noodles that tasted pastey. Rice was flat. Curried chicken was floury and no curry flavor. Reservations only? New policy? The hostess (rudely) asked us if we had a reservation. We didn't and were turned away immediately without a second thought. "You need to make a reservation, we're fully booked." Which was a joke since the place was empty. There were 2 tables seated inside, and the patio was empty which I pointed out to her. "Sorry." Well, I'm sorry this place took a turn for the worse in terms of service. I remember it being a nice place to dine, but they clearly think they are some exclusive dining experience now - ha! Make a reservation if you dare, or skip the hassle and enjoy a better dining experience at the local Red Lobster.. that's what we did. read more

The restaurant had some promise, I just think I ordered the wrong thing. Started with the tiger roll and that was outstanding, the water is delicious. Ordered the "chicken" Pad Thai and was really disappointed. First off there was almost no chicken, the average piece of chicken was no larger than maybe 2 centimeters wide and 3 centimeters tall. I could barely stick it with a fork. The noodles tasted like the chef took a pan full soy sauce and dumped the noodles in there. Had to mix in the rice with the rice noodles just to delude the soy taste, so it was pretty much just a plate of rice. I would go again though, but just stay away from the pad Thai. read more

As I travel a lot on business I was pleased upon finding some solid Thai fusion down Medford way. The food was well prepared and the sauces excellent. As far as the food goes it's an easy 5 stars. I did find the service to be a bit lacking as I had to request my own sauces and refills. My waiter seemed rather over-caffeinated and surly on what appeared to be a calm night; though it didn't spoil my experience. Despite the lackluster service I am likely to dine here again when in Medford. read more

As usual Bambu did not disappoint! I had a hazelnut crusted halibut special that was wonderful although at $28.00 it was much more expensive than dishes on the menu. My 14 year old son had the sweet and spicy fish and said it was the awesome. We shared the dim sum plate which we both enjoyed. The service was impeccable which is something I've always appreciated about Bambu. We are looking forward to our next dinner here. read more

I finally came here for the first time with friends for dinner. The Tiger Cries steak dish, ordered medium rare, was the toughest steak I have ever had. Half a plate of tough steak and half a plate of onions. It took awhile for the waitress to come back, but she was sweet about taking the dishes back and making new plates for a few people in our party. I will give it another try but only because the server was sweet, the food was disappointing.
