My boyfriend and I always find ourselves here whenever we're in "Little Saigon" as they call it. He always gets the Vietnamese coffee, large size every single time we come here. There's something about how the staff here makes it. It's very rich like how he remembers when he visited Vietnam. It's also the only coffee that really wakes him up and gives the kick he needs. I always like to try something new. This time around, I got the Mango Yogurt smoothie. Oh my goodness, so good! I love mango and yogurt, so this dessert just mixes all of that together. The flavor is pretty rich, but pure in my opinion. Usually at places like this, there's some type of powderey substance added in, not the case here. The downside, unfortunately, is the fact that they only except cash! I would've given this place 3 stars because of that inconvenience, but the drinks make up for it. We would really like to see a credit card reader in the near future. I would also like to mention that service is very quick. This is one of my favorite spots for desserts. i like coming here when i have a sweet tooth craving. i love their smoothies or just dessert with lots of mixed jellies which are mainly chewy. i am a fan of this place also because i love the fruit durian and they serve it here. its a big plus since durian is one of those smelly fruit where most places don't serve it. they do have outside seating around the building. they do have limited seatings on the outside. in the inside they have a few tables and a area with nice red chairs with nice padding. they have tv hanging on the walls and are usually music videos and mainly asian viet music. they do get busy during the hot summer days. they are most busy during sundays in the afternoon when people are done with dim sum. its seems like a tradition to get something sweet to eat after dim sum and i feel like people come here. a few times the line is out the door. i would avoid that time and just come here on slower weekdays. i usually love my durian smoothie which i add boba, red tapioca to it. its one of the best combo if you love durian. they do use the real durian fruit and not some concentrated syrup. yes sometimes their are pulp and you taste the texture. its amazing for the price under 4 bucks for the size you get. i always get satisfy with one cup and doesn't leave me craving for more til next time. i do like how you can customize it with less sweet or add toppings to it. another one of my favorites is the Number 6, red tapioca, boba, pendan jelly, durian, basil seed, palm seed, lychee, longan, and jello, and jack fruit for 3.75 lass sweet. let me say this agin under 4 bucks i thinks its a deal. its so good since i grew up with asian desserts and yes i feel like this is more authentic dessert than elsewhere. inside the drink they have different colors and weird shapes of jelly where a normal person would ask what is this. I don't know why I've been missing out on the Bambu train til now. My friends got so excited when a franchise opened in SF and I was totally whatevs about it because I know it's been a South Sac staple for awhile. While in the area after KBBQ, I thought it'd be a great idea to stuff my tummy some more by going across the street to get some dessert at Bambu. I had looked up their menu earlier in the day and decided it was only right to try the kitchen sink dessert drink, #6. And whoa, it was filled with so much stuff! Lychee, pandan jelly, basil seeds, young coconut, you name it. There was so much ingredients that I couldn't even swirl the drink with my straw! For the virgin Vietnamese dessert patron, I don't regret getting #6. It gave me a chance to try all the goodies possibly offered. All of the components had different textures and taste to them. But next time, I think I'll tone it down. My che will probably taste best with a combo of my favorite ingredients. I can't leave Stockton and 65th without some che now! read more

BAMBU IS NOW OPEN IN SACRAMENTO! Their original location is just down the road from my family's house in San Jose and I learned about it early on. The store's concept as a snack and drink spot isn't new, but the way they serve Vietnamese "chè" dessert is! Not sure what their drinks are like, but their specialty is chè. What is chè? It can be a lot of things, but generally speaking, it is a sweet Vietnamese dessert. Common ingredients include beans, different types of jelly, tropical fruit topped with shaved ice and coconut milk. They have plenty of pre-made combinations, but I always make my own depending on my preference. When I went yesterday, I had the bánh lot (chewy pandan jelly--a must!), dua non (young coconut), hot luu (fake pomegranate seeds), and dau do bu (big red beans). The coconut milk really just makes it for me =D Don't fret to message me for other suggestions. Portions are large, so sharing a cup is very possible. Their $2.50/cup special ends TODAY, so go grab it if you can =D p.s. They also have crispy tofu (similar to crispy chicken served at pearl shops) if you want to give that a try. There are many varieties to choose from but I always get the #1 dessert or #10. #1 is the Bambu special which has coconut, logan, pandan jelly, & basil seeds in it. It is really refreshing. The #10 is more on the sweeter side and has pandan jelly, grass jelly, & red tapioca in it. You can also substitute an ingredient for something else. Only thing that sucks about this place is that it's CASH ONLY. Also, their avocado dessert is really nasty. Trussed with all sorts of extravagant items like coconut meat, basil seeds, taro, etc, Bambu delivers Che like no other. The drinks served here are of quality and portion. SURPRISE FOOD ADVENTURE #3 How it works: One person picks a secret location to go for a food adventure and only tells the other people the address of the place. Everyone meets at the address and food adventures happen! One random Monday, roommate and I decided to go on a surprise food adventure. More specifically, we wanted to go on a surprise boba/pmt adventure! I had been wanting to try BAMBU for a while, so I kidnapped roommate and we drove to BAMBU. LESSON #1: BAMBU is closed on Mondays. Surprise food adventure at BAMBU attempt number one = foiled. So some random non-Monday day... roommate and I tried again. Because we had initially intended to go to Bambu for boba, that is what we got. Roommate tried the regular pearl milk tea, and I tried the jasmine milk tea with boba. So... the pearls/boba were good. At least much better than the ones at Tap Ex a block over. But the actual tea itself was rather disappointing. In fact, I... didn't enjoy my jasmine milk tea so much that I went home and tried to modify the drink myself by adding more milk to it. The tea flavor was way too strong and it had a really strange aftertaste. I don't even know how to describe it. Roommate's regular milk tea was better, but still... we've had better. LESSON #2: Don't get boba at Bambu. Just... don't. So why does Bambu have such good reviews then? CHE. CHE CHE CHE. What is Che? Vietnamese desserts! - Dessert #1 (The BAMBU special): Coconut, panda jelly, longan, basil seeds. So I have tinydotaphobia, probably better known as trichtophobia (DON'T LOOK IT UP. I'm warning you. Ugh. It gives me the shivers just thinking of it), and I really had to contain myself while having the Bambu special because the basil seeds look really freaky in this dessert. But despite how freaky this dessert looks, it's actually quite delicious-- the coconut was SO GOOD. I just may have to close my eyes while I eat it next time so that I don't end up goose bumping all over the place. Bleh. - Dessert #14: Red bean, taro, pandan jelly This one is really yummy, although I did have some struggles while eating it because the cup was so full that if I took the lid off, everything would have spilled out as I was trying to mix it. I ended up drinking it through a straw (which was a struggle because everything kept getting stuck in the straw) until it had reached a level that was low enough for me to take the cap off to mix it and eat it with a spoon. Also, ask for the small red beans-- much better than the large ones. LESSON #3: CHE. Other thoughts: - Free wifi! The network name and password are posted at the counter - They are ALWAYS playing random Vietnamese singing show type extravaganzas on their TVs. Makes for some... interesting entertainment. - CASH only! tl;dr: Go here for the Che. It can be rather sweet and it can be a lot to handle for people who don't know what to expect, but it's a pretty good dessert option (especially if you want something to go!) I've been here twice in one week and return again within the next couple of days. The flavors and smoothies offered here are AMAZING!!! The che (Vietnamese smoothies/desserts) is totally reminiscent of what you would eat in Vietnam. You can't go wrong with the #3 or the #6. The #3 (three color with taro and other yummies) is totally filling and could be a full meal. The #6 is a lot lighter and has delicious coconut milk flavor with jackfruit and fresh coconut. I cannot wait to come back and try out their smoothies and other goodies! Finally a place with affordable (almost everything under $4), fresh, and YUMMY dessert. I've seen them put whole avocados and durian into their shakes as well; they don't mess with artificially flavored powders here. The tea flavor is always robust in Bambu's milk teas and I admire that even the unpopular/uncommon drinks (i.e. Avocado brick jello shake and durian shake) taste good too. I really enjoyed this place. A few of my co-workers brought me here and I don't think I ever would have discovered it without them. The interior is VERY clean and well-kept and very comfortable. The employees are also very friendly. Here you will find a wide array (at least 40 or more I think) of iced beverages (not sure if they offer hot ones as well) that are different from anything I have every had. They contain ingredients from coconut milk and pomegranate to grass jelly and avocado. I would highly recommend coming here on a hot summer day if you would like a treat to cool you off. My drink in particular just had too many grass jelly's for my taste, but that is just personal preference. A co-worker had a mango drink that looked very good. Aside from the excess of grass jelly, my drink was very tasty! I like the fact that it is sweet, but not overwhelmingly sweet. I am usually not a desert person so I enjoy food/drink that just shows a hint of sweetness while still being delicious. This is kind of like Starbucks in the fact that you are paying about $4 for a drink, but in my opinion it is well worth it based on the ingredients and service you are offered. I wouldn't make it a regular thing for me because I'm not a $4 every-day-Starbucks kind of person, but every now and then the splurge is nice. So in summary I would highly recommend trying this out if you haven't before and I would recommend coming with someone who is well-versed in art, otherwise you will be ordering blind so to speak. This place was chosen since my best friend loves this place and I thought I would give it a try! We came in on a Sunday night since they were coming down from snowboarding. I ordered C10 which is like grass jelly, red bean, etc etc. I have posted a photo, but I was real excited to try it, and when it came out it wasn't as cold as every other reviewer has said... Which was definitely a bummer and odd because they put like a whole thing of shaved ice in the dessert. My dessert was tasty, but not cold which is why I gave it two stars. The place itself smelled of smokers maybe because there was smokers there, but it threw odd the ambience of the place since they were sitting at the door. Also, THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!!! which is important to know. If I haven't gone on Yelp to check this place out I wouldn't have known. I just had to come back. One of my friends is from San Jose and recommended I try the "Bo Dam" which means mashed avocado. It sounds weird, but wow what a savory rich drink! It also included shaved ice flavored with coconut milk as well as an assortment of jelly and boba that had great texture and flavor. Highly recommended! I also delivered a the Bambu special to one of my friends in Davis, and she was a bit weirded out by the basil seeds, claiming they look like eyes or something. We drove over to BAMBU and quickly ordered a couple of items (we tried to be quick because we showed up five minutes before closing). Almond milk tea ($3.25): the milk tea was sweet, but not too sweet. It had plenty of "tea" flavor and almond flavor, which I liked. What impressed me the most was how the boba were chewy, soft, and slightly sweet- it was perfectly done. Lychee and jelly dessert ($3.75): this is something out of our usual realm of desserts. the lychee was tasty and went well with the crushed ice. The jelly part was interesting, but not really for me. I think that my boyfriend enjoyed it though. The menu is huge and there is definitely something here for everyone. I liked that the place seemed very clean and the service was pretty friendly too. When you first walk in you are pleasantly surprised by its calming decor. It's really nice inside. I happened to show up on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. Not really surprising. The menu. OMG YES! They say third time is the charm and it truly is. This is the third boba place I've been to since moving to Sac, and I've been looking for a place that makes a Thai tea smoothie like the one I used to get in the Bay. Bambu definitely pulls through!
