My friends live close by so whenever we want boba we come here. It's near 99 Ranch and some other boba places, but Bambu's boba is so much better. I love this particular Bambu the best. I got a coconut milk tea and it was a bit sweet for me so the owner put some more coconut milk for me. If you can tell from past reviews I like my pmts a bit on the less sweet side. I was really grateful that she did that. Bambu's coconut milk tea is my favorite! I've tried other places but I say Bambu has the best. My friend also got an ice coffee and it was really good! Ask for less ice though because it was all ice an very little coffee. I tried che for the first time too at Bambu. I got to say it's interesting but pretty good. I got the Chè thp cm because I wanted to try a majority of the things that went in it. It had Red bean, white bean, green/mung bean, taro, pandan jelly, pearl, and combo jelly. Pretty good and I want to try the Chè trái cây next time! I also want to try the blended coffees too because they all sound delicious, particularly the chai tea blend. This has been my recent guilty pleasure. I usually don't crave sweets, but sometimes a good cup of refreshing Che (Vietnamese dessert) is all I need to end the day. I usually order the No. 10 which comes with Red tapioca, grass jelly, and pandan jelly in coconut milk. I love the mix of the jellies and the red tapioca (one of my favorites in che). The red tapioca is like a pearl, but has a thicker texture. But I have been wanting to try other ones, which might not be as sweet since it's not coconut milk based. I got the try the #6 recently that consisted of different fruits/ingredients such as lychee, longan, red tapioca, jackfruit, palm seed, pandan jelly, jello, and young coconut. They always ask you if you want your ice separated (to take to-go and kept for later) or in the cup. The ice comes in a big snowball form that sits at the top of the cup. For an average price of $3-4 for a big cup of sweet goodness, you can't ask for more. This place is cash only, so if you don't have it, just run over to Ranch 99 and get something small. read more

If you're feeling a Che craving, Bambu really hits the spot. I came here with a friend around closing time, but they were still willing to serve us. We asked what they recommended and they basically said #1-3, we went with #3 which was Che 3 Mau, basically, "Che 3 colors" translated. It's crowded to order with people lingering waiting for their drink, cash only (unlike other locations), and no rewards cards like other Bambu stores. I've been dying to try this place since I've heard so much about it - for their boba and their Vietnamese dessert. The boy and I were in San Jose running some errands, so why not bring my Vietnamese boyfriend to Bambu so he can tell me which Vietnamese dessert to order!? But in reality, he just asked the cashier what was the most popular item. She said number 2 (che thap cam - combination), so that's what I ordered! Desserts are around $3.25-$4.25, which isn't that bad. I mean, you pay the same price for froyo, right? This was my first time eating che, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! There were different beans, taro, tapioca, and green pandan jelly in it. Not a big fan of big beans, so I didn't eat all the mung beans on the bottom, but I did finish the rest of the drink quickly! I've never had pandan jelly before - but I am hooked! It was very chewy, but very interesting. This place seems like it's always crackin'. All the seats outside were filled and there was a bunch of people eating their che inside. Besides those people, there were a bunch of people waiting on the side for their desserts. Crazy! Mmm I really loved this place! I am a huge shaved ice fan, and this is the Vietnamese version of it, except that all the shaved ice and accompanying ingredients come in a boba-like plastic cup. I ordered the #3 (Chè 3 màu), which contains red bean, white bean, green/mung bean, taro, and pandan jelly. It's basically a mix of those ingredients, shaved ice, and coconut milk in one large cup. Hands down. The best one around. I guess it's probably because it was the original one. I've been to two different ones to give it a try. Each try was worst than the last. Bambu in Maryland. I ordered Che Ba mau. Very watered down and too much coconut juice. Not that much Che in there. Bambu in Sunnyvale. Not as much ice but still a lot of coconut juice. By the time I stirred everything in it just taste like coconut juice. And I got full off of just trying to drink up the juice. Didn't even get a chance to really try the Che itself. Upsetting. Bambu here. I decided to give it one last try. And actually try something else. I got their number one. Lychee, coconut chia seeds and jelly. Very refreshing. Just the right amount of everything. It's great to know that I don't have to drive all the way to the ghetto and congested Story and Tully area when I'm hankering for some good Viet drinks. They have a pretty extensive menu outside of the Viet dessert drinks, but I usually stick with those and the smoothies. I'm glad to say I haven't been disappointed. Their ingredients are fresh and don't come in the form of sugary syrup, which gets major points from me. I like my boba tea places just fine but nothing beats a healthier and tasty alternative. This place is usually crowded at night and it's not hard to see why. Bambu makes an effort to appeal to a younger crowd while still retaining a family-friendly environment. Their interior is stylish and the TV plays mainstream Vietnamese and American music. Oddly enough, they also occasionally play Korean music but I'm not complaining. Service seems efficient and friendly enough. Che is one of my favorite desserts, and I was very excited that Bambu opened. I am happy that Bambu exists, but I'm very disappointed with this location. At first, I ignored it thinking that the cigarette smell was because people were hanging out in front of the shop and maybe Bambu just had an unusually large number of heavy smokers for patrons. But I started to notice that the coconut milk in the che tasted like cigarette. The taste was so strong that eventually the thought of coconut milk made me think of drinking cigarette. GROSS. My love for che was ruined. To be fair, after a vacation from Bambu, I've tried going back to give this location a second, a third, a fourth, and even a fifth chance, but I can smell the cigarette from about four feet outside of the door, even when not a single patron was in sight. I've gone into the shops next door to see if they had the same problem. Even when Bambu's patrons hang out outside of the neighbors' doors, those shops still smell clean. Bambu, please do something about your cigarette problem at the Hostetter location. The food and air at your Story location is fresh. Why can't your Hostetter location be, too? If not for the gross smell and taste of cigarette, Bambu in general is a great place for something fun to eat. read more

I was there yesterday late afternoon to buy 2 drinks from them and I was disappointed with this Young lady Cashier . She was very rude to me at the beginning of my order . I didn't like her attitude toward me . I didn't Like how she acted this way to the Customers . I love avocado shakes and I heard they packed a good one here. There was a line out the door but the line went fast. I opted for a plain avocado shake (instead of with red brick which was like little various jellies included) since I just had a big dinner. The shakes was tasty, and had a good creamy avocado shake flavor without being overly sweet or gritty. I'll definitely be back to try some other flavors. read more

Wow, I had never been to Bambu until recently when I realized that they have the best Vietnamese drinks (Che) I've ever had. I highly recommend their "dessert drinks." It comes with coconut milk, palm sugar (this is my guess), a scoop of shaved ice, and your choice of various jellies, beans, and/or tropical fruits. The consistency of the jelly is perfect--soft, chewy, and absolutely addicting. Also, they don't make the coconut milk overly sweet which I really like. I've ordered the dessert drink with pandan jelly, grass jelly, and red tapioca and it's excellent. I also tried the coconut smoothie which was good, but not great, and it was a little too sweet. They close at 10pm--they should consider having extended hours for summer! CASH ONLY and the lines can get pretty long, so expect to wait about 10 minutes for your drink. read more

This used to be my favorite of the BAMBU locations. Not anymore. It is now the worst, especially after this morning's very short visit. I tried ordering a coffee drink with pearls. Someone from the kitchen shouted out to the cashier who was taking my order something. The cashier translated to me that the pearls weren't ready yet. A half hour after they have opened and the pearls are not ready? What? How is it possible? Instead, I started to receive a major attitude problem. Instead of having pearls, she suggested grass jelly. I told her "Forget it" and left. OH! Almost forgot to mention one thing. The cashier didn't apologize at all that the pearls weren't ready yet. WTH? Obviously, I won't return to this location. Great place to get Che! They can customize your order (I'm very picky) and are usually very pleasant about it. I always get the che with the red tapioca, the large red beans, and the pandan jelly. The cashiers there are very knowledgeable. They always know what you're talking about even before you know what you want. It's magic! All the drinks here are of high quality and are equally tasty. The pandan jelly is my favorite, as it is chewy, slightly sweet, and just the right texture. I've also tried the Strawberry Fantasy here, and it's a pretty decent strawberry smoothie. The drinks also come out really quickly. There is ample seating both within the restaurant and outside as well. Many people frequent this location during summer, since it is fun to sit outside with friends, chewing on delicious desserts and chatting it up. Parking in this plaza is a little crazy because--duh--it's an Asian plaza full of people who are trying to get in and out. So just watch where you're going and you'll be fine. Also, Bambu gets really busy on the weekends--especially Sunday afternoons, so be prepared for a couple minutes of waiting. read more

This is my second time trying Bambu. Everything here is really fresh. Everything is made with fresh ingredients. I'm a milk tea kind of gal so I was only considering these on he milk tea menu. I've gotten the taro milk tea before and strangely, it was too fresh for me b/c there were like chunks of taro in it. I could see how people would like it, but not for me. This time I got the black milk tea with pearl. I really enjoyed how they added the boba syrup to the bottom of the milk tea and allowed me to mix it. It add a good flavor to it. This place has a ton of other types of drinks. Some with fruits and jellies and more. Some too elaborate for me lol. But a lot of other people seem to like it. Overall, I think you need to try this place and judge it for yourself. It's a very authentic type of boba place and I'm just into the milk teas, so that might be why it doesn't appeal to me as much. Great service! Located in the Ranch 99 plaza. I always get #5 (avocado dessert) or durian smoothie. I love the durian smoothie here since they are very generous with durian! This time, with the help of the cashier, who was super helpful and patient with me, I ended up ordering #1 Bambu Special--very refreshing and light. Finally got to try this place after seeing all my friends pictures on instagram! I got the #4 which had mung bean, grass jelly, red tapioca, pandan jelly (yummy and chewy(, jello...all in a coconut milk juice. Most drinks have the coconut milk base so if you don't like that, get the #1 which is made with clear coconut juice instead. Also, they have a bunch of menu selections but you can basically choose whatever ingredients you want and create your own. If you've never had any, I suggest going with the premade one so you know what goes well together. If you've ever had the Thai dessert, Ruam Mit, it's basically the same concept. Yummy!
