This spot in PDX's airport seems pretty popular as it consistently had at least 4 people in line for the hour I sat in the food court. Their selection offers very common Vietnamese food fare (pho, other noodle soups, bahn mi's, and a couple of dishes to include either your choice of vermicelli noodles or white rice). The prices vary from 6.95 to about 12.95. Since I'm on a preferred diet of mainly proteins/veggies/fruits, I wanted just a soup broth with meat and veggies. I opted for the chicken pho with the specific request of no noodles but replaced with veggies (at an additional cost). After waiting about ten minutes, my order was ready and was hot. However, they mistakenly included the noodles with no extra veggies. (Picture posted). I decided to try a few bites to see how their noodles are. The noodles were made well; not soggy and not too firm. Upon bringing it to their attention, they indicated that they don't normally make my special request however after telling them that I was told that it was possible AND I paid extra, they were complaisant to my request. The broth was not bad but tasted a little sweeter than I've had in the past (standard chicken pho broth which is lighter in flavor than beef pho but the coriander still stands out) but my chicken was rather dry and tough. I found it difficult to eat much of my dish as I really didn't like the chicken. Their broth is much lighter in flavor than other chicken pho dishes I've had in the past at many other venues. I felt that it tasted better with spoonfuls of sriracha and a little soy sauce to make it slightly more savory. Again, I only had the chicken pho so my review is specifically addressing this dish. The bahn mi seemed popular with the airport staff as many of them ordered sandwiches. But quite frankly, I don't know if I'd ever come back to try anything else. But it is nice to see other Asian food options outside of the typical americanized Chinese and Japanese fare found in most airports. read more

The services is terrible. We ordered pho and fried rice and a minute later I came back to asked if they can give me change for $10 bill so I can tip the driver later. He was rudely said "NO, you have to buy something from us." I told him that that we just ordered and pointed to the table where my wife is still eating. He looked at me and didn't say a word. Airport food court food at its poorest !! I ordered the chicken and paid then moved over 5 feet to wait for my food, I was the only one standing at the counter. The 2 of the 3 girls were talking to the guy and should I say he was talking with them and then looks up me and says you order over there... Oh really I already ordered, but wait he can't hear me since he is chatting up the girls... So once again he looks up at me and then he gets the order and starts to make it and says is this your order, I said yes I ordered it about 5 mins ago.. So he toasts the bread ( about the only good thing about the food ) and then puts veg on the bread and then gets the chicken which is in a ton of sauce in a warming tray, i didn't see the meat before and I don't think I would have ordered it if I saw the condition.. I should have asked when did the meat get cooked and how long has it been sitting in the sauce.. I wasn't sure if they were going for jerky style but the meat was dry, tasteless and the only thing that could have saved this whole this was maybe remove everything and put cheese in the bread for a grill cheese type thing... 3.5 stars. Airport food has really come a long way. Wifey and I shared the noodles with chicken. It was hot, fresh, and yummy. The chicken was dark meat, so much more flavorful than that nasty breast meat that everyone seems to prefer. Veggies were fresh and obviously hand chopped. How it took nearly 30 minutes to make four spring rolls, I really don't know. I was the second person waiting for my order before the line picked up. And once more orders came in, the lady stopped in the process of making of my spring rolls and did those first. I was growing impatient especially since I had to board my flight soon. There were a total of five workers, but they were clearly not efficiently using the extra hands to get the other orders going. Average place to eat in the airport food court. The bang mi meat was ok and seasoned well. The item that was off for me was the bread. It wasn't the same as the authentic ones we've had but this one wasn't bad. The servers aren't friendly at all...they seem to believe that you should appreciate their service rather than the other way around. Broth is bland, noodles are starchy and fall apart, there's few onions to round out the flavor, and the chicken is cut thick (vs shredded). If you're paleo or GF then it's acceptable. If you're not that hungry, I'd recommend waiting. Sincerely, the Pho snob ;) read more

Pho as we all know is one of those go-to comfort foods. And the more love and care put into it, the more aromas, rich flavors come out. It's a fairly complicated process and requires time. Like other have said, for the location and need to deliver an warm-your-belly fix, it does the job. It's just not memorable in any way. I asked for some broccoli at the time i placed my order. The attendant taking my order said i would have to pay $1 extra. I thought well ok fair enough although 9.75 is / pricey to begin with. So on bottom gos white rice noodles, lots of those. Some chopped salad of lettuce, jalepeno, green onion, and shredded carrots a small amount of this and topped with 5 or 6 deep fried tofu. Now she starts to put on the broccoli she goves me 4 broccoli 2 of them are small ones. I ask her for 2 more broccoli and she says "no thats all we give" i offered to pay more and she refused. Then she said to me" if you dont like it this way i can refund your money". Are you serious! Terrible customer service. And she looked like she was irritated with me Bambuza your food is tastey. Who knew Vietnamese food in an airport would be so good?! There were a lot of options around but after a weekend filled with all kinds of food, we wanted something light and relatively healthy. Vietnamese food is always a refreshing option so I went with a vermicelli bowl. Their fish sauce concoction was delicious! It has a bit of chili in it so it was perfectly spicy. Vegetables were fresh and meat was plentiful. We also ordered a honeydew slush just for the heck of it, even though we saw that they used powders and it probably would be mediocre. But it was actually super good, not watery, not powdery, and super yummy! I've been coming to this place for several years now and for the most part, the food has hit the spot. For an airport eatery, the cost is relatively cheap and portions are large. I usually order the Bahn Mi sandwich, which definitely fills me up for under $10. The meat quality has deteriorated through the years however. Meh, it's an airport joint. There was quite a line when I was searching for some food to bring on the plane with me, so decided to try it. Went with the grilled pork vermicelli noodle + the egg roll. Fairly typical Vietnamese offering and hard to mess up, but man, the pork was like eating pork jerky. It was really tough to eat. The flavor was good though. It came with a small container of fish sauce, which was definitely needed since the egg roll was very bland. If you do crave Asian food at PDX, I think Bambuza is an option, but skip the egg roll, and maybe try tofu instead of meat protein. read more

Luggage check-ins, taking out my entire bag at security check-points, getting patted down at the security check-point... ugh, gotta do it, but soooo totally over it. Each and every time I get through those hurdles at the airport, I'm usually a lot more tired than running a 5K (at least I get to drink water through those, LOL). So, I was relieved to see a food court with fairly solid choices at the PDX (my first time here, can ya tell?). I cruised through my choices and jumped on the Vietnamese option. Bambuza had many of my faves from Bánh mì to Ph. I wanted something easy, shareable (between me and my family) and pack-able (in case I don't finish), so I ordered a Bánh mì and some eggrolls. They weren't the best quality items (all served kinda lukewarm), but they were good enough to satisfy my craving for un-boring Asian food. I was happy to even see that they had bubble tea drinks there, but they don't always have all flavors available. The price: expect airport prices (eh, probably a step below ballpark/concert venue prices). Normally I would rather starve than have airport food, but I haven't had any food all day, my flight was being delayed for 2 and a half hours, and I wouldn't have time to eat until dinner time. Since I was too lazy to go to Pok Pok and then go through airport security again, I decided to grab a bite at Bambuza after hearing from a waiting passenger that the food was not that bad.
