I went to Jamaica last year and I absolutely loved the food and their culture. I couldn't have enough of their jerk chicken, it was the right amount of spice and yet the savory flavors left me wanting for more when I came back home. Enter Soldiers Restaurant it has the full gamut of all the Jamaican dishes in 2 huge double sided steam tables from Oxtails to Jerk Chicken to plantains to Salt Fish. Its something you have to see to really take in everything they have to offer but its like you died and woke up in a Jamaican food heaven. I particularly love the Jerk chicken because most Jamaican spots use just the chicken legs, which is the cheapest part of the chicken, Soldiers Jerks a whole chicken and cuts it up so you can have any part of your choosing. They have a sister establishment run by the same owners on Fulton Ave in Bed Sty with the same style. The food is self serve and weighed and its not cheap but you can't argue with the quality that is being served which is second to none in Brooklyn or even all of New York city, this place isn't really close to me but when I get my craving for Authentic Jamaican food I run over here always leave satisfied read more

Excellent eating experience.. COVID precautions implemented!! Sink to wash hands , hand sanitizer readily available and masks/gloves provided to customers for sharing food. To start , I was greeted by employees, they were wearing masks, gloves and monitoring customers around the buffet table, which is a plus for me. The restaurant and bathroom was clean which is another plus for me. The food is weighed so depending on your appetite at the time it may get pricey but the food is worth it. Amazing Jamaican food!! Unlike many steam table/buffet places, everything here is fresh, clean, and delicious. It's cash only, but at $6.75 per pound, the quality of the food is worth it. They have all the classic Jamaican dishes and because it is buffet style, you can walk around and see what you like. Not everything is labeled so if you're unfamiliar with Jamaican cuisine, just ask-chances are, it's going to be delicious. Never again. I used to go here religiously with my husband. We loved the food here. Even though the food was costly, we spent at least $50-120 each and every week here for the past seven months because we enjoyed it. There was one incident four months ago where I went there late and the peas soup I had was spoiled. The cashier called one of the cooks to taste it and they agreed that it was indeed spoiled, before even tasting it. When one of the other cooks tasted it, he made a face like he just bit into a lemon. They replaced the soup with another soup. I tasted it before leaving and it was fine, but then when I went home the pieces of yam were rancid. Unfortunately, I had a cold and could not taste it until I had eaten a significant amount and was ill the entire morning following. I let this incident slide four months ago because they replaced the original item and the cook I spoke to said he would make sure this never happens again. After all, it is not their fault that I could not taste that the second soup had gone bad too, right? Then, this morning the second incident happened. This time with the ackee and saltfish, one of my favorite dishes from this place. If you have grown up eating ackee, you know this is something that you don't play with. The ackee was sour. The cashier tasted a tiny piece and said it was fine. The first bite into my plate of ackee seemed fine as well, but the second bite made me gag. They refused to give me refund, even a partial refund (subtracting the weight of the food that I had already eaten), or give me something else. Very simple solution. We asked politely for one of these solutions, but ended up just leaving angry and hungry. I should have known that the business owners were like this. Every day that I come here in the morning for breakfast at 7am (if they open on time), I come back at night around 9pm to see the same food from the morning being served! Obviously, I knew to avoid this food and any food that looked off, but this is outrageous. I have watched some people who don't know any better eat this food at night. The way they handle food here is not safe. Some of the food isn't even warm to touch. It can be freshly made every day, but if you don't follow basic food handling and storage protocols, the food can still harm someone. To have spent $14 on rancid food was a waste, but to be treated like the way the chef responded was on another level. Extremely disappointed because I enjoyed the food here. From now on, we'll just walk the extra five blocks to another West Indian restaurant. Just walk in any direction and you are bound to find other restaurants that won't get you sick. read more
