My favorite thing to order is the chicken sandwich and the passion fruit shake. I like my shake made with water not milk. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, which if you're expecting a traditional Cuban, this is not it. It's great tasting but it's not traditional. This one has a bunch of lettuce and untraditional pulled pork. It's great tasting but not what you would expect from a "Cuban sandwich." The cheese steak on the other hand is great tasting, toasty, and delicious. Nothing pairs better than their special "pink sauce." Banana king is also known for their wonderful shakes "world famous." I always go with the strawberry banana and add sweet milk to it. The shakes are a lot of calories so don't overdue it! Overall my experience was great. Spanish fast food chain that offers some serious munchies. Ordered a steak arepa combo that came with a shake of your choice in which I got strawberry made with milk as opposed to water. I also got a columbian style empanada that was filled with potato and beef. The arepa tasted homemade and wasn't too sweet and had a good crumbly texture. It was seared on the outside and moist on the inside. The sliced steak was melted with some cheese and pink sauce and finished with a thick slice of fresh tomato. The shake was pretty good, it didn't taste so much like fresh fruit but it was blended to a good consistency and wasn't overly sweet. I wouldn't refrain from ordering things like hotdogs and hamburgers from this joint but if you're looking for a change in your normal fast food routine try one of their spanish sandwiches made with arepa buns or green plantains. I am absolutely outraged at the food and customer service that I received at this establishment. Anyhow I ordered Salchipapas which was 16 bucks, a passion fruit smoothie, and got a deal for 2 cheese empanadas for the price of one. This was the worst takeout food I received in 2022 yet and probably in all of 2021 before. I literally can not believe how badly I was disregarded however I will get to my issue. I spent 16 dollars on a large order of Salchipapas and I received a portion size so small, that it was the same container I used for side salads when I worked at restaurants. This was such a small portion that I was still hungry, and very upset. I am also not sure if the blenders at this establishment are broken, but there was a HUGE chunk of ice in my smoothie that I had to take out in order to drink it which was very disappointing. My empanadas were so small, that I understand why there was a promo deal for them. I was not happy with that, but my main complaint is about the Salchipapas (the main course). This came in such an insultingly small portion for 16 dollars, that I almost thought that I was being April fooled two weeks late. When I called the restaurant no one spoke English which is also unacceptable. I am not trying to be mean, but how are you going to have customer service when the staff can not even communicate in the primary language? All they did was waste my time, say no, and hang up on me twice. If this is how you treat your customers, then I never will return again. I was dissatisfied, angry, hungry, and any other negative adjective you can think of. The woman then told me in broken English that she can get me an order for pickup. I asked if it can be delivered and she said no; I was willing to meet them halfway and drive to the restaurant for the replacement food. The woman then all of a sudden could speak some English and said it would be 8 bucks. I almost dropped my phone. Do they really expect me to drive there to pay for the food? The portion was so small I would not pay 8 dollars for it, let alone 16. I even called the following day to ask for someone who speaks English. To some miracle, I was able to speak with someone who knows the language the next day. She explained that this was the size they have been using for Salchipapas since they opened and it was fine. For that price, I can get a large pizza; in reality I would need 4 servings of that half efforted main course to even get close to full. I reiterate I am 155 pounds and 6 foot 1. If you're food can not fill me up, there is a problem. I am going to waste away to nothing if these portions keep coming I do not understand for the life of me how anyone was ever satisfied paying 16 for that size, 12, or even 8. Regardless, I do not care what they give other people because this was not worth what I paid for. I sent the picture of the portion to Uber eats, they also agreed this portion was minute and said they would refund me. I also showed this picture to almost every other acquaintance I came across that day to verify if in fact I am being unreasonable, nope everyone found that portion to be ridiculous. The sad thing is I was exchanging with one of their associates all day arguing which is so sad. I was a consistent customer and explained, since they are so prideful and will not even make it right. If they want to lose money by all means go for it, but make this situation right because you know in reality its nice to care about the customers satisfaction. I worked in the restaurant industry for years and I can not tell you how many times we just added another order of fries when a customer is not satisfied with the portion. Why? BECAUSE FRIES COST NOTHING AND WE CARED ABOUT THE CUSTOMER. These people clearly don't and I am not a bird, nor am I on a diet. For that price I want to see a mountain of costless fries. I don't wanna hear I am sorry, like I said that does nothing. I don't wanna hear oh we are getting that worker in trouble because that does nothing for me either. I do not care what they do unless my order is fully replaced. I am happy to go down there in person and talk to that rude worker and the manager so I can perhaps enlighten them about the word RESPECT if they are willing to toss me some costless fries that I deserve. Yes it was that bad, that I would be willing to come in and call them out. Let me know when that worker is back I can come by and give a verbel extension of this review. I've been going often to this specific place since last year and I went today with my 5 pound miniature pinscher, it's not the first time that I bring my assistance dog to this place because I live really close. I have to say that there's is NO SIGN anywhere that shows that they don't allow pets inside. Even though I told her it's an assistance dog. My dog was calm and quiet sitting under my seat. Some one else took my order and I'm wrong? I come to banana king after work almost every weekend (I'm a dj). I'm very habitual and my go to meal is the cheese steak sandwich and a diet coke. It's usually rather busy around the time I usually come. I have no problem waiting. You order your food, you pay, and they hand you a reciept with your number. When your food is ready they yell out your number and they had you your food. You can take it home or eat it there if there is space available. On this particular night I'm waiting rather longer than usual. I hear ticket numbers called after my order. I get up and ask why are orders that came after mine being called before me. I'm asked for my ticket. I hand it to them. They hand me my diet coke, and I take it and take my seat again. After about 6 mins of waiting yet again ( total elapsed time 25 mins). I get up and ask the person who took my money what was the deal with my order. After looking through tickets and asking me for mine, which they took to begin with this person was clueless to what happened to my order. That's fine I know no one is perfect. This is do go wrong every now and then. I'm still not upset. The problem begins when she tells me some one took your order. Again that's fine I still have no problem. I said ok now what. She replys with I'm sorry I can't do nothing about it. This is when i lose my shittt. Let's just say her and I go back n fourth for about 5 minutes. She gives me an attitude at this point I'm irate (40 minutes total time elapsed and no food). We are both yelling at the top of our lungs. Not a pretty picture. She tells me she is going to call the cops and encourage her because at this point I have to report a robbery as well. You cant take my money and give me nothing in return. Went to the Banana King in Clifton on Crooks ave. I picked my order up. Got home and noticed it was wrong. They refused to deliver the correct order so I had to pick it up. I told her I had opened and touched the original order they gave me. But the cashier told me she would not give me my order until I gave her back the original order, which I had opened and touched. How anyone can give this place anything other than 5 stars is just unthinkable. I've been coming here late at night for at least 7 years and they are consistently amazing. I've ordered everything they have to offer, but the best thing is the steak sandwich with bacon. I like to drown the sandwich is their pink sauce and wash it down with a milkshake; my favorite is the Mora (some sort of blackberry). Make sure to order your shake with milk and without sugar. Sugar is not necessary in a fruit milkshake unless you really hate yourself. Banana King is a magical treasure and should be treated as such. That is why it is customary to bow as you walk in and out. And, of course, to sing songs of great praise while you wait in line.
