I use to eat at Banana Leaf a lot back in the day when I use to live in San Jose. It's been awhile since I last ate there. We happen to be in the area and we were hungry. We decided to come back to Banana Leaf and check it out. We arrived to Banana Leaf on a Friday night for dinner. The Malaysian/Thai restaurant is located at the McCarthy Ranch in Milpitas. Plenty of parking is accessible in the large parking lot out front. The Malaysian modern decor still looked similar to when I was last there. It was a bustling and lively Friday night atmosphere. Plenty of tables were packed and the bar was half surrounded with patrons in their bar stools. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes for our table. We ordered Roti Prata, Mango Chicken, Seafood Pad Thai, steam rice, a glass of Chardonnay, and a deep fried banana à la mode. Everything was delicious and authentic. Two of my old favorite dishes there, the Roti Prata and the Pad Thai were just as tasty like I last remembered. The sweet curry sauce and the fluffy Roti Prata went perfect together. Every bite is scrumptious. The Pad Thai were flavorful. Prawns and calamari in the Pad Thai were tender and plentiful. The Mango Chicken was rich and sweet. Finally the deep fried banana was delectable and went very well with the vanilla ice cream. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Banana Leaf. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The vibe was family friendly and welcoming. I am not sure when I will be back but it was nice to return for some nostalgia.

Everything was good. We made reservations for a party of 7. They had lots of large tables. Make sure you have a reservation as it does get packed here. The cumin tofu was my favorite, unique dish. So flavorful! It contained green beans that was nice and crunchy. Paired well with white rice:

I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. I had a reservation, so got a seat in 10 minutes. Everything I had from here was flavorful. Beef banana leaf rice was my favorite item. It had beef rendang, sambal and peanuts which were all very flavorful. Singapore black pepper beef packed a ton of flavor as well. Roti murtabak another excellent item. I am sure other items in the menu will taste good too. I should return to try more stuff.

3.5/5 stars! Came here with a group of people to share family style so let's get into the foods I think is worth getting to share. Also I've noticed the spice levels here were pretty mild compared to other Thai/asian restaurants 8/10 pineapple fried rice; this was pretty good! We got the regular one and the spicy one, the spicy one wasn't that spicy, but the flavor profile was good overall 8/10 pad see ew, can't go wrong with this, had lots of veggies and a reasonable amount of protein ish, but I think this might have been my favorite dish out of all the ones I've tried 7.5/10 Satay Chicken, this was not bad, chicken was juicy and the sauce paired well with it, enjoyable skewer! 6/10 pad Thai, this was too sweet for my liking and the noodles were a bit overcooked, so they were a bit mushy 6/10 Black Pepper Chicken, never had this before but the black pepper sauce was a bit sticky for my liking, so didn't really eat too much of this 6/10 papaya salad, the papaya was cut too thick and long, the flavor and seasoning was lacking 6/10 mango black sticky rice, I will say the mango was juicy and sweet, I was just a little thrown off with the black rice, it wasn't sticky but it was more grainy

I've been searching for a good Malaysian Singaporean restaurant and I'm so glad to have stumbled upon Banana Leaf! This restaurant seems to be well-loved by the community for years, and it still seems that way as it was packed on a weekday dinner. The restaurant falls somewhere in the middle of casual and upscale. The portions here are huge and they have an extensive menu, so it's best to order family style. Huge plus for them having an extensive vegetarian menu as well! We ordered Roti Prata, Chicken Curry Laksa Mee, and Malay Sizzling Beef. Bold flavors! We mainly came here for the laksa, but we were impressed from everything we ordered. The roti was flakey and was nearly ordered at every table. The laksa had a rich and flavorful broth, though I wish it was spicier. The sizzling beef was peppery and delicious. Since the beef dish was saucy, we ordered rice on the side to balance its strong flavors. I'd come back and order these dishes again and definitely try other dishes!

Banana Leaf is well loved in the family as we've been coming here for years. Safe to say, the food is just as good as we remembered and it is still a bumping spot! It gets really busy especially for dinner, so plan ahead to get on the Yelp waitlist or call in, but note they sometimes will close the phone waitlist. RECS: + Roti prata ($5.25) is a must, so light and flakey with a delicious curry + Pineapple fried rice ($18.25) is so well seasoned, it's been my personal favorite since I was a kid! + Singaporean black pepper prawns ($20.95) are so rich in flavor from the sauce, with plump prawns + Hainan chicken with rice ($17.25) is poached to perfection, paired with wonderful sauces and turmeric rice + Belachan kang kung ($18.50) is delicious! + Mango sticky rice ($12) is our favorite dessert item here, all the right textures and flavors

Banana Leaf in Milpitas never disappoints! The restaurant is always packed, which is a testament to how good the food is. Despite being busy, the service is consistently friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food always arrives fresh, hot, and full of amazing flavor. You can really taste the quality and authenticity in every dish. If you're looking for delicious Malaysian cuisine with excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere, Banana Leaf is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Good food, uber quick service and casual indoor arrangement. The servers are attentive and responsive. The food is close to Malay cuisine and flavorful. I would go back especially for a quick meal at those lunch hours. At the same time, the menu is elaborate that you might want to visit with time in hand to try a few items at a go. Overall, a good place to visit to enjoy Malaysian cuisine.

Enjoyed our lunch today! Been here years before but for some reason today's lunch will have me come back. As usual this place was busy but we were seated right away. No menu scan the qr to see the menu. They no longer have lunch specials all ala cart. We ordered the Roti nice light crispy fluffy sauce was yummy as well. Basil fried rice on point as well as combination noodle curry dish(forgot the name of dish) love the sauce and noodle cooked perfectly not over done. Will be back to try more.

Haven't been to Banana Leaf for many years and decided to come because I was craving their Roti Prata! Came for lunch right when they opened at 11:30am because I knew they could get really busy. Decor is pretty basic but warm; the booth we got was very comfortable. Service was very attentive and prompt. My friend and I ordered a Roti Prata and a Combination Satay (beef and chicken thigh) as appetizers; Nyonya Shaking Beef, a bowl of Coconut Rice, and Pad See Ew as main course; and then Black Sticky Rice with Mangoes for dessert. Their Roti Prata was excellent as usual, the curry sauce went perfectly well with the warm, fluffy, and crispy bread. The beef and chicken skewers in the satay were tender and juicy and perfectly grilled. Both entrees were really delectable and flavorful. Black Sticky Rice with Mangoes was a great conclusion to the meal. It was a delicious meal and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food. Highly recommended!

We were originally going to eat at Shabuya but the wait was too long so we came here and I'm glad we did! We had a table of 8. Since they were so busy, they told us we only had an eating time of 1.5 hours which was fine by us. Our server came to us promptly to get started. All of the food came out pretty quickly. We started off with the roti prata and it was good! The roti was very flaky, I wish it was a bit thicker. Their coconut soup was delicious. The tom yum was very spicy and lacked depth. Their pad Thai and mi goreng noodles were the stars. The pineapple fried rice was terrible - super mushy and didn't taste like normal fried rice. Apparently it usually comes in an actual pineapple but it seems they ran out. The green curry was good, a bit spicy. The basil shrimp was also great. We ordered the eggplant and that didn't come out, but glad it didn't because we had too much food. The drinks were also okay - nothing outstanding. The white sangria was fruity but not strong at all. We told our waiter we were celebrating a birthday and he brought out a free cake slice with a candle, super sweet! Overall, the service was a stand out. The workers are amazing. Food comes out hot and fast, but some dish's are definitely lacking.

After long time we are here. Well crowded for a weekday dinner. Orderd Roti Prata fresh made and great tasting side. All the dishes we asked for extra spicy. Galangal soup was good, just that they had too many big chunks of vegetables particularly tomatoes contributing to the volume and they had added green thai chilli. Petfect except the quantity was less for even 3 people even though we ordered large and suppose to be for 4 people. Mee Goreng was tasty but did not get the extra spice it also had less quantity. Sizzling veggies were hot but not spicy nor did the flavor of pepper came through, but tasty though decent quantity but still less when compared to other places. Coconut rice ordered did not have any of the flavor coming through. Interior was dim and congested. Overall pricey, less food, but taste good.

Banana Leaf has been a mainstay for my family and me close to 15 years! These are our favorites and we order them every time: - Rendang beef (hearty and warm for the winter) - Hainan chicken with turmeric rice (cool and refreshing in the summers) - Pineapple chicken fried rice - Roti prata (light and crispy with just a hint of sweetness - beloved by the kids!) Unfortunately with small kids, we don't eat out all that often, so I usually order to go. And they were so sweet - they even gave us a free dessert on the house this time. I hope they stick around forever because the food is so good!
