I've been to Paik's Noodle several times and have also tried locations in other cities! I forgot who originally recommended this place to me, but I'm glad they did Their prices are super good and their food is consistently good. I get the jajangmyeon ($10.95 for a small) every time, mostly because the noodle texture is TOP TIER. The noodles are thick, chewy, and springy, and they pair really well with the jajang (black bean) sauce. There are also plenty of ingredients mixed into the sauce, although I find it a little salty sometimes. The tangsuyuk (sweet & sour pork, $15.95) is super crispy, and I really liked the tangy sauce with it. I personally prefer dipping the pieces in the sauce so they stay crispy, but you can also pour the sauce over if that's your preference! The restaurant can get pretty busy on weekend evenings, with waits usually around 10-30 minutes. There's plaza parking available nearby. Paik's Noodle has multiple locations around the Bay Area and it's about the same experience at every location I've visited. I ordered Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong. The noodles for both dishes have a pleasantly chewy bounce to them. They are thick, satisfying, and cooked perfectly right. The Jajangmyeon's black bean sauce was savory with a touch of sweetness and contains peas, onions, and pork. The Jjamppong has a spicy seafood broth with squid, mussels, pork, and veggies. Every meal comes with pickled yellow radish on the side to help cut through the richness of the meal. Service is not what you come here for. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated and a part of that was because they skipped our name on the waitlist. They claimed they called it, but we were standing less than 15 feet away from the front door and never heard a thing. The music the restaurant was playing outside didn't help. Once sat inside, it is a turn-and-burn operation. Food is ordered, dropped off, payment is collected, and nothing more. Again, don't go here for the service, go for the noodles. The atmosphere is casual and bit cramped. It has a cafeteria-like feel inside and can get a little noisy. Parking can be tricky especially when busy since they share a small parking lot with neighboring businesses. The value you get here is unmatched. I recommend getting jajangmeyon with a bowl of rice (dump rice in the sauce after you're done with the noodles) for first-timers. there is no san carlos yelp page, so i'm directing this review of paik's noodle to here. despite their namesake and what they seem to be known for, i feel like paik's noodle is so average and normal for jajangmyeon. its supposed to be a korean chinese fusion but i feel like they just end up skimping on both cuisines to create a dish i'm not sure feels familiar to either cuisine. the noodles are chewy and have a good texture, but the sauce relies much too heavily on the onions and random other added veggies than the natural fermeted savory umami of black beans. i hope to be impressed another time! read more

The parking lot is small and so is the restaurant. We ordered Jajangmyeon, Meat Jajangmyeon, and Cream Shrimp. The Jajangmyeon was super tasty and easy on the palette. It seemed like there wasn't a lot of meat in the meal, but good thing we ordered the Meat Jajangmyeon, which cost an additional $3. The Cream Shrimp was creamy and tender too, reminiscent of honey walnut shrimp. The restaurant is crowded and lively. You can hear K-pop music and other diners chatting when you're eating. I also love that they provide everything you need at the table, from scissors and extra bowls to plenty of pickled radish. I've heard this place has the best jajangmyeon in Koreatown, and it definitely lives up to the hype. We ordered the version with seafood, and it came with a bunch of different veggies that added a nice textural profile to the dish (baby corn, green onions, onions, wood ear). The soybean sauce had a more subtle soybean flavor compared to others I've had, but was sweeter and more smoky. The dish contained some whole dried chili peppers, which added a low burning flavor to the dish. Arrived around 5pm on a Friday and were seated immediately. By the time we left at 5:40, there was already a wait, so timing definitely matters. Highly recommend the stir-fried jajangmyeon, mandu, and tangsuyuk. We tried the chili shrimp this time, but we'll probably stick with our usual tangsuyuk next visit. I don't really like the chips in my dish but my friend liked it. The shrimp was decently sized and nicely coated. After watching Culinary Wars, I was highly motivated to try Paik's Noodle. I think I harbored too high of expectations because of that, as the quality fell a bit short. We ordered the Meat JaJangmyeon and Jjamppong. So their noodle texture is definitely impressive and unique; perfectly al dente, chewy, and glossy. It tastes like some sort of tapioca noodles. However, the flavors of both the JaJangmyeon and Jjamppong did not follow the same upwards trajectory. The JaJangmyeon needed a bit more salt to me. I've had a better tasting one at a local Korean mom and pop joint. I liked the Jjamppong better than the JaJangmyeon, but I felt as if it just tasted like a spicy Korean noodle soup with a hint of seafood; nothing extremely distinctive. Not to mention, the seafood inside the Jjamppong was minimal and the mussels were really tough. We came at an off hour so there wasn't a wait nor was it hard to find parking, but I can definitely see how it could be problematic. There were also a lot of flies flying around. I do still want to try their stir-fried JaJangmyeon and tangsuyuk, but having tried the two classics already and not being super awed by them does kind of set the precedent. read more

Its popularity speaks for itself with the long waiting list but the line moves fast. I came here on a weekend evening but had to wait for only 10-15 minutes. The service is pretty quick and the servers are very friendly. The menu is pretty limited here of you are looking for some variety. You definitely must try the jajangmyeon here! I liked the texture of the noodles and the flavor of the black bean sauce. I would like to try other versions of jajangmyeon. I also got their cream shrimp but it didn't hit the spot. The batter was not coated well and it wasn't crispy. The shrimp was fresh but it wasn't cooked well and the sauce wasn't that great. This dish was a big miss. They are much better when dining in or even take out, but be careful with catering. We had an office catering with them and they are so focused on delivering quality of food that the office efficiency suffered. We had a long long line as the whole setup only serves one employee at a time. After the queue, you arrive at the station first with the yellow pickled radish and a bowl of plain noodle. Naturally you open the bowl and put the pickles inside. Then the broth station where it's a spicy broth or a vegetarian one. They didn't tell me the spicy broth is seafood. And they'll ask you to pick up the radish before they put the broth into the bowl so the flavors don't mix. So I saw a coworker reached into the bowl and picked out the radish with her fingers and fidget to put them on the bowl cover. lol....so unnecessary! Anyhow, I don't want anything spicy, so I moved onto the Jjajang station, which is for dry noodle with sauce and the sauce has pork. The sauce only had 3 small pieces of meat and some chopped onions. Although it's sufficient to coat the noodle, it's really not much nutrients. The sauce tastes sweet. Moving down the line, there's prepared dry noodle for vegetarians which has more veggie ingredients and then lastly sweet soy chicken wings for people who don't eat pork or seafood. I loaded up on that and they are delicious! Later on as they started to run out, I saw that they added a garlic and tomato clam and fried chicken drum sticks.
