We ordered the thick sesame bread with green onion, chicken cream corn soup, minced shrimp in lettuce wraps, and salty soybean milk. The sesame bread, which I had several years ago and loved, was disappointing this time. The outside was tough instead of crispy as it should have been. The inside was fluffy but too bland. The chicken cream corn soup was okay, with a pretty standard flavor. However, the minced shrimp in lettuce wraps surprised me. The lettuce was crisp and refreshing, while the minced shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, and bamboo shoots were savory and flavorful, making a perfect combination together. This is one of the older restaurants in Milpitas that serves standard Chinese food. It has a few unique signature dishes such as their sesame bread. This bread comes in a thin or thick version with layers of dough and green onions inside. Go with the thick version. I also enjoyed their salt and pepper fish fillet. Service is standard. I've been seeing this thick green onion pancake everywhere, and it turns out there's a local place that my parents used to go to all the time that has it. I've never had Hui Chinese food before, and it was such an amazing experience. Chinese food is so diverse! We ordered the green onion pancake, knife cut noodles, pea sprouts, lamb with green onions, and 5 cup chicken. The bread was absolutely delicious, it came out steaming hot and it was so fluffy and light with a strong green onion flavor. You could see the layers of dough and the crust was light. It was perfect for dipping into all the dishes we ordered. The noodles were bouncy and had a nice un-uniform texture. I wish it was a little more flavorful, but overall a good side dish. The lamb was sliced thin and had a typical stir fry flavor, slightly gamey. My favorite dish was the 5 pot chicken. It was so rich and saccharine, with a thick soy sauce glaze so sweet like caramel sauce. My mom said it used to be chicken wings; which she preferred, but now it's drumsticks. Darda is still a solid Chinese restaurant in Milpitas after so many years. Its portion size and pricing is still very reasonable given inflation over the years, and the quality of the dishes are still good. We are still a fan of their thick noodles (dao xiao) and egg & tofu stew (guo ta dou fu), and recently discovered their tofu/bean curd "warm pot" is fairly similar to the seafood, but included a bunch more tofu! New favorite item! We got our order as takeout, and everything was packaged very nicely. The warm pot was packed into 3 cylinder containers, each wrapped within another small bag to prevent leaks, and the egg & tofu stew was also double wrapped. The green onion pancake is usually a favorite and while it still tastes good, it definitely has a lot less onions than it used to. Nonetheless, given inflation these days, Darda is a solid restaurant serving Chinese food - I wish they were a bit closer so I could come by more often. While they have some seafood options, their regular Chinese dishes are probably their best ones, so wouldn't index too much on seafood. They are located in the really large Milpitas Square, so parking should be ok in the shared lot, but it does get really really busy given the number of options and Ranch 99 there, so plan accordingly. read more

Have been coming to this restaurant for ages. I think it is the only original restaurant left in Milpitas Square. The restaurant is pretty spacious and decor is rather basic. You really come here for the food, not the ambience. The five of us ordered Hot Spicy Fish, Bean Curd Casserole, Bean Curd with Soup Stew, Dry Sautéed String Beans, Three Flavor Home Made Chow Mein, and of course our favorite Thick Sesame Bread with Green Onion. We came early on a Monday evening, so it wasn't too busy. This place can get pretty crowded. Food came out rather quickly and at a good pace. Their food is rather consistent and is usually pretty good. My favorite was the Three Flavor Home Made Chow Mein. The Bread was excellent as usual. Everything was tasty and delectable. Dada seafood is a staple restaurant and a hidden gem in the bay area. I have been coming here since I was two years old and this place never disappoints please do not let the low rating fool you. My favorite things to order from this place are the chicken with chili sauce, the three style homemade noodle, chicken and scallions, the green onion and sesame bread, thick, salt and pepper, fish, and sometimes when it's winter, the chicken and corn soup I've taken my friends here for the first time and they love it. I ordered several dishes from Darda, and most of them were aggressively average. Nothing memorable--until the Mongolian beef and dumplings arrived and turned dinner into a survival challenge. The Mongolian beef looked like someone introduced thinly sliced beef to a bowl of mystery sauce, tossed a few crispy noodles on top, and hoped nobody would ask questions. It didn't look like Mongolian beef, didn't taste like Mongolian beef, and had a strange flavor that my taste buds are still trying to file a complaint about. Then came the dumplings. They were undercooked, dry, thick, and tough--an impressive combination that should not be physically possible. Each bite felt like chewing a leather coin purse filled with disappointment. "Dumpling jerky" is honestly the most accurate description. The photos are not misleading. That is exactly how the food showed up. I ordered several dishes from Darda, and while most were forgettable, two were so bad they completely ruined the meal. The Mongolian beef was almost unrecognizable. Instead of the rich, savory dish you would expect, it was a pile of thinly sliced beef drowned in a strange sauce with a few crispy noodles scattered on top as if that would somehow save it. It neither looked nor tasted like Mongolian beef. The flavor was oddly unpleasant and difficult to describe, but the easiest way to put it is that it was barely edible. The dumplings were even worse. They were dry, tough, and somehow tasted undercooked at the same time. The wrappers had the texture of leather, and chewing through them felt more like eating dumpling jerky than an actual dumpling. The photos speak for themselves. This was not a case of one dish being slightly off. The food looked careless, tasted worse, and left me wondering how it ever made it out of the kitchen. I'll be up front and say that my family and I have been coming here since this place opened over 20 years ago, so I may be a little biased when it comes to this restaurant. While many things have stayed the same (the decor, most of the menu, and actually most of the wait staff!), there have definitely been some changes thru the years. They've had changes in ownership as well as changes in head chefs, though for the most part the recipes have always stayed intact, albeit with a learning curve for the new chefs as they get dialed in. Great Halal Chinese food all around, with fantastic sesame flatbread and my favorite, their seafood soup noodle with shaved noodles. We are big fans of their shrimp chow mein as well and their beef noodle soup. There's still the occasional hiccup where sometimes the seasoning of the food is a little under salted, but it still tastes good. As an aside, it's interesting to see the patrons thru the years. Many of the customers these days were kids that grew up eating at this restaurant with their parents, and now many are bringing their own children here as well. However, this restaurant has been around for years and stands out as one of the few Chinese Halal and seafood spots in the Bay Area. They've also opened Darda Express in Sunnyvale, focusing on quicker delivery with a limited menu. Today, we had the Hot and Sour Soup, Noodles with Gravy, Black Bean Chicken, and Vegetarian Chow Mein. Everything arrived hot, fresh, and flavorful. The Hot and Sour Soup leaned more sour than hot but was still solid. The Noodles with Gravy were the highlight - soft, thin noodles in a tangy, sweet-and-sour black bean gravy, topped with thinly sliced cucumbers. This was my first time coming here because it's my wife's favorite Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.First,it took about 30 minutes before anyone even came to take our order. Then after another 30 minutes, they finally brought out our food but only one dish, the sweet and sour chicken. About 10 minutes later, they brought the shrimp chow mein, but we were still waiting for our Mongolian beef. We finished both of the dishes we had, and no one ever brought the Mongolian beef. I asked one of the servers about it. She disappeared for about 10 minutes, then came back and simply said, "No" astonished, I asked "no what?" She replied that I never ordered it. I then asked the woman who took our order, and she said she would go get it. A few minutes later, she came back with a completely different dish and insisted it was ours. It looked different and even tasted different from the mongolian beef my wife has ordered many times before. They started arguing about it instead of fixing the mistake. At that point, I didn't even want it anymore. On top of all that, we had to ask for water, and even then we barely received any service the entire time we were there.To make things even worse, it's only been about 20 minutes since I ate there, and I already feel sick.I will never come back. I have been there a few times before. We loved it before. But last time, the quality was not good, not like the previous. Chilly Chicken has small pieces. I am not sure if it has the piece of chicken or includes only the dough. And Mongolian Beef has small pieces of beef. It has bigger beef slices before. Only the bread with scallions was very good.
