Came back to try their other dishes. I ordered thru toast and order was ready for me at the pick up time. When I came there were large table for family dining filled with people. Tea leaf salad: still a solid 5 stars. Pad Thai: 2 stars. Good proteins. Pasta tastes over cooked and flavors weren't there. There is some spiciness to it which I didn't like. Maybe the sauce was spicy and when I ordered it non spicy they didn't put much which left the flavors none of existent. Squid and shrimp were excellent otherwise. Nasi goreng fried rice: 4 stars. interesting flavors. I kinda like the chucks of potatoes that was in it. There were a decent amount of protein toppings. Kang kung balachan: 3 stars well cooked with wok flavor. However missing a pop of savory umami that would be expected from shrimp paste.

I am surprised we've been sleeping on this great Malaysian restaurant for so long. We drop by this plaza fairly frequently since the aquatic center is just down the street. We decided to check this place out to try something different. The auntie who seated us was super nice, and was very helpful in making recommendations for vegetarian items. She kept checking on us throughout the meal as well which was very sweet. Comfortable seats with a great view of the kitchen, you get to see them prepare the food in front of you! We got the fried rice, pad thai, and the fried eggplant. The wok dishes all had plenty of wok hei flavor, and were all seasoned perfectly. We could not stop chowing down on the fried rice. Pad thai noodles were also perfectly al dented rather than mush that you get at some other places. The only thing that was not as great was the eggplant. While it was very crispy without being too greasy, it was underseasoned. The dipping sauce it came with helped, but it was not quite enough. Even with this I would highly recommend this place. The great service and the delicious fried rice and pad thai are worth the trip on their own.

Wow! Saw this place on SF chronicle top 100 restaurants in the Bay Area. I was surprised to see something from my hometown on the list so i had to check it out!!! The tea leaf salad was a nice blend of textures and flavors, very refreshing while also slightly salty/savory :). My favorite was the Ying Yang noodle! The fried noodles were done perfectly! Those in combination with egg base broth create such a smooth and delightful texture. The Rendang curry was nice! Lots of chicken which I'm a fan of, and not as spicy as it seems. The house chili tilapia was quite epic!!! They must put a whole bottle of the sauce over the fish, which is a sweet chili sauce. I think some of the texture/flavor is lost with the sheer amount of sauce, but never the less it was still enjoyable. Would definitely come back, the menu is extensive and has something for everyone.

A hidden gem for Southeast Asian food in the Bay Area! A casual authentic Malaysian and Burmese cuisine for years, Mingala is a must-visit. Bak Kut Teh: A herbal broth rich with pork belly, pork ribs, mushrooms and tofu. It's a comforting dish, perfect on cooler days. Huat Dan Ho: Creamy egg sauce over your choice of thick horfun or thin vermicelli noodles, simply comforting, one of my favorites and it's hard to find this in the Bay! Ha Mee: A vibrant shrimp noodle soup that hits all the right notes. The shrimp taste is so pronounced and rich. Another favorite! Chow Kuey Teow: A classic, wok stir-fried with flat rice noodles, with wok hey (wok taste) and packed with flavors. Curry Seafood Clay Pot: A hearty pot filled with fresh seafood and aromatic red curry. Each dish brings a taste of Southeast Asia right to your table. And if it's extra kick you're after, don't forget to ask for their homemade sambal.

Stumbled upon this restaurant while walking since we were looking for a spot for lunch with my family. I was excited to try their food because I love Burmese food, and also realized that they also serve Malaysian food. It's quite spacious inside and wasn't extremely busy given that it was lunchtime. We were seated in one of the booths and it was very comfortable. It was great that one of the menus showed pictures of the food. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all spectacular. Our favorite was the Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet since it was crispy and flavorful, especially paired with the sauce. We also enjoyed the Paratha, Curry Laksa Mee and Curry Seafood Claypot. Each dish tasted authentic, except for the Hainan Chicken. I would not recommend that since the chicken was bland and the sauces didn't help either. Would definitely recommend this spot to those who enjoy Southeast Asian cuisine. The servers were also very friendly and kept coming to our table to refill our waters. Also love that there's plenty of parking available since it's located in a plaza.

Authentic SEA food, staff (auntie) very sweet, recommended me to switch from Tom yum meehon to Prawn noodle soup bc she thinks I will like it more and I did! I can see/taste the "wok-hey" when the dishes come out. Love every bite, come try and you won't regret!

I'd thought I'd lost this place, but they just moved from Warm Springs to Newark. It had been so long I forgot what I ordered previously, so this time I got a dish with coconut rice, peanut marinated chicken, peanuts, veg, and pickle. The coconut rice was rich but not too sweet, while the richness of the chicken marinade balanced out the tang of the pickle. The veg were raw and a bit dried out so I skipped those. I also grabbed a Malaysian iced coffee, which was similar to classic Vietnamese coffee with strong brew balanced out by sweetened condensed milk. Sounds like you can customize the sweetness - I said "sweet" and it hit the spot. Logistics - indoor seating only - plenty of strip mall parking outside

2nd visit & was dissapointed. Chow kuey teow was horrible: bland & the noodle were all broken up; hainan chicken was more dry than last visit; roti was not fluffy & was more like made from frozen scallion pancake; Kaffir lime soup was ok, beef rendang was the saving grace.

    Karina S.

Huge fan of Malaysian food, was excited to try this spot! Very cozy restaurant and it seemed like there were a lot of regulars here. Tried the chicken murtabak, gado gado, and char kway teow with beef. I think the chicken murtabak, which was a green onion pancake with chicken curry inside, was my favorite dish. Pancake was crispy and the chicken was super flavorful. The gado gado sauce was a bit sweet for my liking and could have had a bit of a stronger peanut taste, but was quite good nonetheless and the fried veggie fritters were an enjoyable addition!

This restaurant is THE only one out of the entire east bay region that made it to the SF Chronicle Top restaurant list recently. Worth checking out if you haven't been here before. Fantastic authentic Malaysian food. Been one of my go to restaurant all these years when I crave for Ying Yong Huat Dan Ho or Hokkien mee noodles. They have one of the best Ying yong with the crispy noodle and gravy over it which you need to try. Exactly how it's done in Malaysia. I also love their main entrees, along with other appetizers such as roti canai (prata) and gado gado. Fast service and very friendly owner who takes time to introduce dishes to diners new to the southeast Asian cuisine.

A late lunch with bestie after our shopping around this area. We only had 30 minutes left before this place is closed for lunchtime. We ordered food to share: Singapore behoon, balacan kangkung, and a bowl of steamed rice. The foods were surprisingly good! The service was good too. The place has a casual vibe. We'll be back

Been here a couple times. All noodles and soups are stand out. Curries are good too, even the seafood ones and I typically don't love seafood curry. Noodles have good heat, soups and curries and rich and flavorful. Noodles have good bite and some dishes come with good lemon and chili sauces. Can be a bit salty but good management, fast service and food.

I visited Mingala with a group of friends, and we got to sample a wide variety of dishes from their menu. We tried the roti pratha with curry sauce, hokkien mee, rendang, belachan kangkung, salt & pepper fish fillets, café baby short ribs, and their coconut rice. Among everything we ordered, the café baby short ribs and the salt & pepper fish fillets stood out as clear favorites. The short ribs were incredible--the marinade, made with ground coffee, added a subtle bitterness that perfectly balanced the sweetness of the glaze. It's a unique flavor combination, and I can't think of another spot in the Bay offering anything quite like it. The salt & pepper fish fillets were also outstanding. While this dish isn't hard to find in the Bay Area, Mingala's version is one of the best I've had. The batter was light, thin, and perfectly crispy, with just the right amount of seasoning. It was a crowd favorite at our table--despite being one of the last dishes to arrive, it was the first to be polished off. The only (minor) criticism I had on the food was that the curries felt like they could've been more intense in their flavors. For example, I thought the beef rendang could have been reduced a bit more so the coconut flavors were more prominent. The dish itself was otherwise well made -- the beef was fall-apart tender. If you're craving traditional Malaysian and Burmese cuisine, Mingala is the place to go. The food is excellent, and I'd gladly come back to try more of their menu.

Amazing southeast Asian food spot. Mixed veg and panang curry was really the best. I'm bummed that they are closed permanently :-(

I was recently invited to a neighbourhood holiday party where each neighbour brings a dish - like a potluck. I decided to bring Curry Puffs. The curry puffs were a hit - they were gone in seconds, a testimonial to the deliciousness of these treats made by Curry Leaves Bistro. The host even placed the curry puffs the star and centre of the photo he sent to the neighbours. Source: Malaysian curry puffs are widely available at street food stalls, bakeries, and markets and are enjoyed as a breakfast item, an afternoon tea snack, or a late-night treat. Locally known as karipap, it is a popular, savory, half-moon-shaped pastry snack with a flaky, crispy crust and a thick, spiced filling. They are deep-fried until golden brown, resulting in a crispy exterior. When eaten hot, the curry puff provides a satisfying contrast between the golden, flaky, and crispy exterior and the soft, warm, savory, and mildly spicy interior.

I'm already drooling just thinking about it and would 100% order it again in a heartbeat! Char Kway Teow (10/10): Amazing stir fried noodles. The flat rice noodles had a smoky, slightly charred flavor and were tossed with savory Chinese sausage, tender shrimp, egg, bean sprouts, and garlic chives. The dish offered a satisfying blend of sweet, salty, and umami flavors. It was comforting, flavorful, and wonderfully satisfying without feeling too heavy or oily. Singaporean laksa (10/10): This dish was similar to a Vietnamese curry with a fragrant, coconut-rich broth that delivered a balance of savory, spicy, and subtly sweet flavors. The rendang chicken was super tender, the yellow noodles were soft and soaked in flavors. It was the kind of dish that made it hard to put the spoon down. Perhaps it's because of the rush of orders and addition of items I assume are not usually on their menu, things were a bit chaotic. Multiple people ordered multiple dishes and the kitchen was getting some orders confused (eg calling out an order # multiple times even though that customer had been served already). I will only review the 3 dishes my family got. Perhaps the Nasi Padang combos are better here (I see this is most commonly reviewed and popular), but sadly, they had already ran out of the Ikan Masak Lemak thirty mins after opening. Nyonya Laksa (2/5) @ $18 -- The soup was too watery and there wasn't enough of a coconut taste to it. The chili helped a little once mixed in, but there was still something missing from the soup. Mee Rebus (3/5) @ $18 -- The sauce was flavorful and slightly sweet. However, the sauce was poured on top of the tempura shrimp so I had soggy tempura. A little nit: I had to stir the noodles to make sure all noodles were coated. Hainan Chicken Rice @ $17 -- I didn't try much of this but the rice was fragrant as expected and had that chicken essence taste. Also ordered a milk tea (strong and standard) and a milo (which came in a can, I thought this would be made in house but I was wrong). This store is a stall inside a larger food court, so seating is limited. There is a public bathroom. Service was nice -- they asked if we were eating there and served us. All plates/cutlery is disposable so it's easy to pack up if you don't finish there.

At each table we started with a cup of Iced butterfly pea lemongrass honey and then a cup of hot teh Tarik which was my favorite drink of the day. It reminds me of hong kong milk tea. The first dish did not come out until 50 minutes after we were seated. It was Kaya Toast with semi soft boiled eggs. I think traditionally the eggs should be alot softer forming a type of egg jam for you to dip the toast into but that was not the case here. Next was the Dabai fried rice which came out room temperature. The flavor was savory and reminds me of rice and beans texture but with more of an olive taste. I think it would've been better if served hot. Then the forbidden rice pudding came out warm and it was not bad. At 1 hour and 30 minutes after seated, they brought out a big tray of assorted food with no descriptions of what anything are so it was a taste and guess and reference back to the instagram post of this event. The kuih talam tasted like it was missing sugar and just tasted bitter to me. The Rosewater kuih sago was interesting and pretty tasty. It was prepared like a piece of mochi. The bingka ubi kayu is my favorite peace of sweet and reminded me of butter mochi. The mung bean kasturi was not bad but really heavy. The curry puff was cold and didn't tasted fresh. It was also quite salty. The pumpkin Cara berlauk was interesting and also quite heavy. The beehoon fresh roll was cold and lack flavor. The keropok crackers are good as they should be. The dip tasted like sweet and sour sauce. Overall not a great experience. All the food didn't taste fresh and tasted like they were all prepared a head of time but the service was still very slow. None of the food items really stood out to me. Items were all placed in a giant tray that was was meant for people to take togo but they were awkward to carry (especially since we were taking public transit). We asked for another togo box since we consolidated everything to one tray with some more leftovers that wouldn't make since to carry two giant trays. And the server was reluctant to give an additional small togo box. The instagram post about this event also advertised more drinks to be paired with this meal but it was never served. Never got our green tea, coffee, and tropical punch which would've improved the heavier and sweeter items that were served.

Hands down the best I've had in the USA, and on par with the best satay places I've had in Southeast Asia! Our favorites including both kids were beef and pork. So tender, so flavorful and delicious even without using the peanut sauce. We even got another two orders of each to take home! Seafood laksa was such a big portion with good amount of seafood. If you've had Singaporean or Malaysian laksa, this is different. Different in a good way since the owner chef is from Indonesia. The Hainanese chicken rice was tasty. Turmeric rice was different since I'm used to the ginger chicken rice, but the poached chicken was very well made. Under the chicken skin was a layer of gelatin which happens when the chicken is poached and then cool in a meticulous method. Together with the ginger scallion oil sauce, it was umami! Fried spring rolls were crispy and good flavor of meat and vegetables inside. Together with their house lime chili sauce, it was a party in the mouth! (Maybe it's a different variant of the dish, but I preferred the more coconut heavy broth flavor that I had over there.) I still enjoyed this dish overall though. I also tried the Hainanese Chicken. It really wasn't anything amazing, but this could be due to the dish being served with regular, white rice; they had run out of turmeric rice for the day. I also had the kumquat sparkling drink. The menu notes it's sour, but I didn't think it was overly so. It was still more sweet than sour in my opinion. I enjoyed the drink, and it tasted like they used real fruit rather than artificial syrups. I think the portions are a bit small, particularly in the case of the Hainanese Chicken, but it's nice that they served complimentary shrimp chips. Service came off as genuinely welcoming/friendly, even if we weren't checked on after the food came out.
