This was our second stop for date night last night after dinner last night. Even though we were pretty much stuffed beyond belief from Cow Bells (yum!) we just had to have dessert, duh! I got a half and the hubs got the whole shebang. I went with chocolate covered in toffee & the hubs chose peanut butter covered in coconut. These things are delicious!! I don't think I could ever order a whole one because they are so sweet & filling, but I will definitely be back for another half in the near future, i'm sure. Let me give some advice about Bananarchy: Your eyes are WAY bigger than your stomach. Order the half banana and just go nuts on it! I got mine with crushed peanut butter bits and it was so decadent I could barely make it through half of mine. I would definitely get a half next time. Their flavors are very exciting and new, so keep checking their site for the flavor of the week. I missed the Tiramisu and am killing myself over it. I can't believe I've haven't been here before. The bananas were just perfect. I got the peanut butter pie. The banana was the right amount of frozen. It wasn't frozen to the point where it was hard to eat or too cold to eat. The guy was amazing and super friendly. There wasn't a parking lot but there is convenient street parking nearby. This place is so top notch that it makes me wish I watched Arrested Development, somewhat for the tons of pun possibilities, but mostly because I'm forever grateful to the show that this gem now exists. I first tried Bananarchy at Blues on the Green a few years ago and since then, the truck has moved around Austin a bit but their service, quality, innovation and taste have never let me down. Their frozen bananas are dipped in your choice of: chocolate, vegan chocolate, peanutbutter, or vanilla (white chocolate) ...then in your choice of topping, anything ranging from: cookies, oreos, toffee, cinnamon, graham cracker, etc. Holy (somewhat) healthy dessert heaven! Some people note that it might be hard to eat a whole one...don't mind them, they're wrong. Particular favorites that stand out -- cookie crumble, the milly vanilly...and pretty much anything topped with Oreos. I was very excited to try this after hearing so much praise for it, but these desserts were very underwhelming for me. We got two with our Austin Passbook, one with chocolate and nuts and the other with chocolate and Oreos/graham cracker crust. I took about 2 bites of each and was done, I just couldn't get into the frozen banana feel/texture. This is one of the best treats during the summer. I love frozen bananas, so the fact that you can make a custom frozen banana is great. The trailer is in a small trailer park, which is pretty easy to get to and if you go during off hours it is really easy to get parking in the lot. Plus service is super quick when no one is there. I love just getting it dipped in chocolate with reeses. If you follow them on instagram, you get to know the weekly special, which is usually something super delicious like banana fosters or strawberry cheesecake. read more

Honestly, I was so pumped to try this place, especially after hearing everyone and their dog rave about it, but I left feeling a little underwhelmed. The menu wasn't as experimental and exciting as I would have hoped to see from such a funky food truck, the bananas seemed overpriced ($4 for half a banana with some chocolate? What is the markup on that, 300%?) and the girl who served us was high as a kite, which in hindsight explains why it took 15 minutes to make two bananas. After an arduous half year I finally got to try this place. Every time I stopped by it was closed and then when I went at the right time they were closed for the winter :( I tried this place about a month ago. I really liked it. I had what I believe is called the milli vanilli. its dipped in vanilla and chocolate. The banana itself, I thought was delicious. It wasn't hard at all and it was sweet. Its like each banana is at its peak ripeness. The vanilla was a bit too sweet for me though. Next time I'll just get the chocolate dip. The only complaint I have is that they change locations occasionally and their times are sporadic...so be sure to always check their website before heading out. read more

I'm not what you'd call an Arrested Development fan (seriously, before the new season came out last month I had never seen an episode) but I am a fan of frozen bananas. Seriously, growing up in Southern California they were my dessert of choice every time we went to the beach. My banana of choice is the Milly Vanilly with rainbow sprinkles. Seriousy. Vanilla? Chocolate? Delicious colorful waxy bits that remind you of childhood? How can you go wrong? You can't. 4 stars because it's kinda pricey. I feel like even a 25 cent reduction in price would be psychologically more reasonable. But I've never let reasonable stand in the way of enjoying delicious frozen bananas. read more

This is hands down the first place I've ever been to, other than Mr. Natural, that serves completely awesome vegan chocolate. A friend of mine recommended it, and I've been hooked ever since. Great spot to go with friends, not too much seating but there's not usually too many people there. There are a couple of picnic tables behind the trailer, but you can also bring a blanket and spread it out on the concrete slab to the side of it. Staff is always very friendly too. Warning: it is cash only though. Luckily, there is an ATM inside the gas station next door. I had a vegan foodie friend in town last summer who kept trying to drag me to Bananarchy, but I always resisted. I've got frozen bananas in my own freezer already for smoothies, I would tell her. Then came the Groupon, the worst drought in Texas history, and my summer vacation. Bananarchy is conveniently located near Barton Springs pool. The Afternoon Delight happens to be just the right blend of sweet, salty, chocolaty, and cool to satisfy me after a bike ride, some swimming, and some sunning on a Texas afternoon. It is now my favorite post-swim destination. Yes, the bananas do seem kind of pricey, but a.) so is a pint of beer in that neighborhood; b.) when it's 105 degrees out and you are selling chocolate-covered bananas on a stick by the local swimming hole, you've kinda cornered the market! So much deliciousness in one dessert!! I was very pleased that this trailer moved to South 1st Food Court (at S. 1st and Live Oak), because now it's super close to me.
