I love going to pochas because of how amazing the food and drinks always are. I've been looking to recreate the same feel of pochas from Korea, and Bangia is a very close replicate, and one of the few bars/pochas that truly feel like the ones there. The food and drinks came out pretty quickly, and they had waiters walking around just in case. It's very similar to the service in Korea, where you have to flag them down if you need anything. I kind of liked it more that way instead of someone checking in every 5 minutes asking if you need anything. I also love the vibe and interior, it's very similar. The front reminds me of a nightclub because of the lights, but the inside was very cozy and looked exactly like most pochas. The actual food was very good, and very comforting. The drinks were also exactly what we were looking for. We let our server recommend us drinks based on what we like, and he did perfectly. We even got more drinks after our first round. We were able to wash all the food down with the drinks. Also, the bingsul (bingsu and sul "alcohol") is so good. We decided to get the lychee and it was a good balance, not too sweet, but very refreshing. Overall, really great experience ! read more

We came here because it was almost 10pm and most restaurants in Koreatown were closed. I was craving soondae, so I got this with the ddukbokki. This was the strongest soondae I ever had - a little too strong for my liking, but I think the red sauce from the ddukbokki went well with tempering the flavor a bit. The dduk was a little on the soft side when it first came out, but when it cooled down the texture was more chewy. I also liked how there were bits of intestine in the red sauce. The squid was honestly the highlight of everything. They served it to us whole and someone took the time to cut it into small pieces. The texture was amazing - so chewy and fresh. I never saw anything like this in LA Koreatown so this was really impressive to me. The Korean pancake was decent. Not wow but it went well with the soju and the other dishes we got. read more

Wandered into Ktown on a Saturday night. You know how that goes. We wanted some causal but fun eats, comforting. So we walked down some stairs and went into Bangia. We started with some wings! 10 piece chicken wings, half soy garlic, half sweet and spicy. Piping hot. Sauce was amazingly good. The garlic had lots garlic chunks that gave it an interesting texture. The spicy sauce was sticky in a good way haha. The deep fried whole squid was hot and fresh off the fryer. Cut at table side, served with two sauces. Tartar type sauce and soy based sauce (very similar to seafood pancake sauce). Tasted great!! The army stew was deceptively huge. Felt like there were two packs of noodles chilling in there. Lots of ingredients, various textures. From the soft rice cakes, to juicy sausage, soft luncheon meat slices and way more. Definitely worth getting for a bigger group. For our dessert, do some light customizing of your shaved ice. The Bangia Bimsul is a fun boozy dessert. Each bite comes with a little soju or makeolli, it's sweet and dangerous. Hands down AMAZEBALLS!! We've been to several Korean restaurants during our stay in the city and by far this is our BEST meal! This was our anniversary dinner and I'm so glad we booked a reservation here because it was perfect. It's located downstairs so you have to be on the lookout for signage. Recommend getting there early, joining the waitlist or making a reservation. They open at 6pm and the people start walking in. The place is big inside and has a great vibe. The menu is online and there are QR codes at the table for you to scan. They'll come and take your order and the food and drinks are out quickly. I ordered the Truffle Oil Chapaguri beef and hubs got the Bulgogi rice platter. Omgosh these were DELICIOUS! Best bulgogi and the Chapaguri beef was chared to perfection! Came here a couple years ago and remember it being really good but the food quality and service has definitely fell off. Their food prices are not cheap and their portions have gotten tiny. We ordered the spicy pork and mozzarella with tteokbokki and the dish came out barely covering the bottom of their small cast iron pan. The service here is okay. It felt like we were being rushed more than attended to. We were told that they needed the table back by 8pm but by 7pm it felt like they wanted us out. I cannot believe how rude the staff is here. They make you feel rushed the ENTIRE time you are sitting there. Don't be a Pocha place if you don't want people to sit and talk for awhile??? And mind you we were only halfway into our food and drinks and they'd come around asking us if we're done, touch ALL our cups and plates at least once every 10minutes to check if it's empty. It felt like if we even stopped drinking / eating to talk for just a little bit they'd rush over and want us to hurry and finish. We really were not there past how long normal people stay at pocha places on a weekend night (there were other groups there who were still there even when we left). Year after year this place is still my TOP fav pocha. The food portion is huge, and most of all the workers here are all just so funny and have top tier service. They joke around with you while making sure that you have everything you need, and are part of the experience. This place is fast becoming one of my "regular spots" when I hit up NYC which seems to be a minimum of quarterly. Its no frills, its kinda hidden away from the main hustle/bustle and honestly its just good bar food and a great pocha feel. The place requires entry down a set of steps and has their small ish bar area right up front when you walk in but opens up to a larger dining room as you go further into the back of the restaurant. The ambiance is dimly lit and is a fun spot for group gatherings but I could also see a laid back intimate date working here. The service is your typical pocha in ktown and the menu is broken down by their "top items", jeons (pancakes), stir fried ( meats, etc.), Grilled items (pork skin, squid, etc.), Soups/Stews, Rice, and Fried Chicken. Honestly love the ambiance and love that they have Hallasan (my favorite soju). I have been here a few times now and ive landed on my typical spot (at the bar when alone, 2- 3 bottles of hallasan, and the truffle oil chapaguri (Parasite Movie inspired) with pork belly. Its comfort each time, its filling, its no frills, and while the chapaguri is a tad pricey for what it is.... Its still just a comforting feeling. This is a "go to" for me. Was recommended to come to Bangia in NYC's K-Town for the Soju/Makgeolli Bingsoo by a couple of TikTok videos, and was unfortunately disappointed by the hype. My friend and I went on a Thursday night, in which Bangia offers $3 shots, IIRC, which we had decided to skip out on as we were excited for the Bingsoo. We ordered a Mango Bingsoo with Soju and a Lychee Bingsoo with Makgeolli to share, both of which tasted like they lacked alcohol. The Bingsoo also melted relatively fast, after receiving it for a couple of minutes, the Bingsoo had melted into a drink. One plus to the Bingsoos was the mochi bits inside of it, which were fun to eat. On top of everything, service was also incredibly slow. The restaurant was pretty empty since it was a Thursday night, but it took forever for our two Bingsoos to come, and also for our check as well. The table next to us also voiced frustration when it took them a while to receive their check. IIRC, it took ~2-3 reminders to receive the check. Not sure if I'd come back again, since there are definitely other restaurants in the K-Town area that offer better food with better service. read more

My group ordered the kimchi pancake and a tofu with kimchi and pork dish. The tofu with kimchi and pork was AMAZING. The blocks of tofu had a great texture, soft yet firm, and I've never had plain tofu, but it tasted so good. As someone who grew up eating a lot of Korean food, especially from Queens I find that often times Korean food in the city is priced much higher for something that doesn't hit the mark as well. This is definitely my new favorite pocha to go to in NYC. I believe they went viral recently because of their shaved ice makgeolli, but I could be wrong and it's been a long-existing menu item. I would highly recommend getting a reservation and coming with lots of people because we ordered food enough for maybe 5 people when it was just my friend and me. Service is honestly pretty good, and I love how they blast K-Pop on the TVs everywhere. I highly, highly, highly recommend getting their lychee shaved ice makgeolli. It's probably one of the best shaved ices I've had in the city, and they even put some mochi balls to add texture. Bangia... is MF BANGINNNNN BABY. I love coming here with my friends for any occasion, but any time you come, it's gonna be a lit time. They recently popped off on social media for their drinks but the food has always been incredible. Bangia has generous portions, and I always feel stuffed when we come here. We order 3-4 plates for 5 people and it's a pretty good amount. My top picks are : Budae JEONGOL, seafood pancake, SPICY SEAFOOD CHEESE RICE CAKE, and truffle oil chapaguri with strip loin. My friends and I love their lychee soju cocktail, which comes in a pitcher. It is not too sweet, and the alcohol is not too strong. One order also comes along with a cup of lychee. For the most recent time I came, I recommended my friends to try the lychee makgeolli. They've never had Korean rice wine before, so they were skeptical. However, everyone loved it. Had a really great experience here on Thursday night! I've been here a couple times with my friends previously and we've always really enjoyed the food and drinks. Thursday nights already get pretty busy but the restaurant had really nice vibes. My friend and I ordered two dishes and two cocktails. The soondae tteokboki was delicious! I really liked the flavor of the soondae especially when dipped in the tteokboki sauce. The octopus and pork belly were cooked really well - both were tender and had good flavor. The dishes were spicy but not too spicy. The drinks tasted great as well. My friends and I always get the lychee soju cocktail. I tried the yuzu soju cocktail this time, but I liked the lychee one better. The yuzu cocktail is lightly more bitter and less sweet compared to the lychee cocktail. The staff were super friendly and came to check up on us many times. They also gave 3 free shots to both my friend and I, to try out some of their new creations that may be introduced to the menu. I really liked the carbonated rice wine (Starlight Chungha) - it's very light, fresh, and slightly sweet. They also gave us a warm shot that tasted a bit cinnamon-y, and the drink was super smooth and didn't taste strong at all. I had a great time at Bangia! It is dark lighting but very intimate. I caught up with friends ordering the Tteokbokki (rice cake) stir fried pork with mozzarella and army stew w/ a side of steamed egg. Love love loved the Tteokbokki (rice cake) but found the army stew okay, a little watered down. The steamed egg was fluffy and perfectly seasoned. The service was kind and quick. Favorite ktown late night spot by far!! I've been here a couple of times, and it's always the best pre or post a night out in ktown, or even just for dinner. It can be pretty busy on a weekend, but depending on the time there can be no wait. I've ordered a bunch of stuff from the menu, but my favorite is the tteokkboki and the oden, as well as their noodle soups! Everything comes in large portions, and is meant for sharing, so I'd recommend going with a group and just trying a bunch of stuff! The egg souffle is also AMAZING here. It's complimentary and sooooo fluffy!! It hits every time. The atmosphere is also very cute, there are lots of seating areas each in sort of separate sections, which gives more privacy to each table. Arrived ~6:45PM on Thursday evening and got seated after a 10 minute wait. The interior is cozy and cute. Their food is priced reasonably according to its size. There was a complimentary seaweed soup and steamed egg, which were both really good! We ordered the jokbal and bibim guksu with pork belly. For the jokbal, though there was a lot of meat they were disappointingly not quality cuts. I don't think I would order again. I quite liked the bibim guksu along with its assortment of toppings, but it was not as refreshing or spicy as I'm used to. I am tempted to order this again though. Their per day drink menu is shockingly cheap. The strawberry makgeolli was extremely good but there was definitely not a lot of alcohol in it. On the other hand, the lychee soju felt like 5% lychee extract and 95% soju. The service was good.
