#45. Talay Nam Prik Pao

Casual Thai restaurant at University Mall with fast, friendly and polite service. Parking can be hard to find along with the restaurant on the other side of the Giant. We order a bean thread vermicelli soup which was a good alternative if you don't want something sour and spicy along with the Bangkok Fried Rice. Seafood stir fry #45 had more spices which balanced everything out. Prices are reasonable compared to other Thai restaurants where prices have all gone up.

I've come to this place many times but this is the first time I'm reviewing it. This place is cozy and that but is clean and they have a TV showing the Olympics so I liked that. The food here is pretty good. I got the pad se ew and chicken satay for appetizer. My friend who's never had Thai food before went pretty basic with their Bangkok fried rice and spring roll. The satay was great. Well cooked. Good sauces. They also gave you a good portion. The spring roll however was bland and we only ate two of the three pieces. The pad se ew pork was delicious but the fried rice was just average. Overall it was a good meal and I'll probably go back just because I live very close to this place.

I haven't been here in years. It looks like they got a new name and a new door that leads directly to the restaurant. Great Thai food. Ambiance is just okay; keep in mind it's in a strip mall across from GMU. My only complaint was that food trickles out instead of being served all at once, but my friend did say it's better than food coming out all at once really late. I agreed. Food today- Pad kra pao (tofu): a little salty but it's meant to be eaten with rice. It had a kick. Delicious! Pad Thai was on the sweeter side and needed the squeeze of lime. Drunken noodles looked paler than what I'm used to, but it tasted delicious. Thai tea is so yum because it's not overly sweet; they come out in these huge take out containers. Would come here again! Service was great, too!

Got to say nice spot to take a lady to. Good staff here. Very friendly and easy going. It isn't east to find service like this. Inside the decor is quite relaxing. Yes it's in a strip mall, but this is a place to go to. The chicken ka prow is so tasty. Also the portion sizes are solid. Is it a little expensive? Yes but rent, location, and inflation are the reality. Planning on returning this weekend, as very good Thai food. They have a lot of selections on the menu.

Came for lunch on a Saturday and was pleased with the menu offerings. Cute restaurant decor, friendly staff, and comfortable environment made the lunch worthwhile. I ordered the drunken noodle, which is described as a dry lo-mein (though I may argue this not a lomein) with beef, chicken, and shrimp. Upon request I was given condiments, of which I added chili powder. My daughter ordered a wonton soup. The large was a good size that came with large shrimp wontons and some lettuce. The soup itself was unremarkable and we did not drink it. The pad Thai came with shrimp and was very sweet. I wish the sprouts had been blanched. Finally everything would've tasted better with Sri racha imo but maybe I just prefer things spicier rather than sweet and sour.

Second time trying Bangkok golden today (6/12/24). First time was pre-Covid, but I did remember saying it was good back then. Total today was $45.43 prior to tip for Bangkok fried rice, drunken noodles and satay pork. I came around 4:45 for an early dinner. There weren't too many customers so it was nice and quiet. The staff were super friendly. Once the order went to the kitchen, I could hear the grilling and wok noise. I knew I was in for a treat. The satay came out first. It was a bit dry but it paired well with the peanut sauce and the other sweet sauce. The entrees smelled absolutely amazing. Visually, the drunken noodles looked pale, but the flavors were all there and it was perfectly seasoned. The fried rice came with beef, shrimp and chicken I think and it was a filling dish. Both dishes had a nice wok hei. Overall, the location is great and the price to food ratio is a really good value. I'd recommend

This pad se ew was delicious. My eyes were watering over the flavors and I cannot wait to come back.

This place is consistently tasty! My 3rd try and this is now my fave thai restaurant. It's just so good. I ordered a lunch pad thai beef slightly spicy and it's just that. The beef could be a bit more marinated or flavorful, but the the tamarind sauce was on point. Yes, the parking is horrendous in this shopping strip, but if you can ignore that, this place is legit!

Food was excellent. Crispy duck with basil and crispy pork belly with Chinese broccoli stayed crispy even for delivery.

I really liked the kick of spice in the drunken noodles and Panang curry. The price was nice but the food was a bit salty.

This is the perfect spot for Thai food on a hot summer' day. The air conditioning and food has both…read morebeen memorable. Their decor is obviously very nice too but it is the food that brings me back. I really like this Sisters Thai, the food is consistent and delicious. Personally I love the boat noodles here, flavorful and well balanced meal that takes me back to my trips in Thailand. Their beautiful presentation does not take away from the flavor. To wrap up the meal, their desserts are always solid too! Their servers are friendly and easy going!

A cautionary tale…read more TLDR: Specify that you want your entrée served AFTER you finish your soup/appetizer and be clear about how spicy you want your food to be. The space is very small, maybe 10 tables. There's some parking that might be available in a small lot across the street and a half block away. I ordered Tom Ka Gai soup with Chicken, and Drunken Noodles with beef. Seems simple enough. And yet, there were three issues with these two dishes. I was really hopeful when they brought out my bowl of soup, mostly because it was a BOWL of soup and not the more typical cup-sized serving. The bad news was that the soup was tasteless. It consisted of a watery broth, some chunks of chicken, and a few mushrooms. (Issue #1). The six of us were two or three spoonfuls into our soups when the waiter brought our entrees. I don't know about you, but I like to finish one course before the next one is brought to my table, and I'm faced with having to decide which dish I want to let get cold. (Issue #2) In this case, the choice seemed obvious. I pushed the bowl of soup away and dug into my Drunken Noodles. Like many people, I typically order Drunken Noodles at Thai restaurants. I've had it dozens of times without any problems. I say "Drunken Noodles," they bring it (usually after I've finished my soup or appetizer), and I enjoy it. That's not what happened this time. This time, it was almost too spicy to eat. It was MUCH spicier than any other Drunken Noodles-es I've had. And I wasn't alone; another one of us could only handle a few bites of her food before giving up. (Issue #3) I may give this place another try, and if I do, my visit will include the advice that I just shared with you at the top of this review.

It's so rare that I don't like a Thai restaurant but this one definitely let me down. I wanted to…read moretry this place because it was close to where we were one Saturday evening. But the place was pretty empty, and I think I can understand why. The food here in my opinion is below average. I ordered a medium spice level Drunken Noodles with Chicken but I swear this was Extra Spicy--this is coming from a person that has a pretty high spice tolerance. Not only that, but it had a very tangy flavor to it as well. I've never had drunken noodles be this tangy. It did not taste right at all. This is one of my go to Thai dishes that I have ordered at many many restaurants. My husband got the Kob Kun Fried Rice. His dish was okay, but sort of strange. They kind of just plopped some crab on top (see pic) and didn't actually mix it into the fried rice. The crab they put on top was kind of cold, while the rest of the dish was hot. I thought that was odd. Even then it was better than my dish. So my husband, who has an higher spice tolerance than me, offered to swap dishes with me but even he could not handle it. It was spicy in a truly unenjoyable way. This sucks because I ordered a medium and they did not take that into account at all when making it. I had to do what I very rarely do--I asked if I could kindly send the dish back and I explained my issue. They were nice enough to let me order something different. I got the green curry with chicken. Sad thing is I got this mild in an effort to not have the spice issue again. However this time, my curry was completely sweet. I do actually like some spice in my thai food so this whole experience really sucked. I feel like I've made better thai curry at home, I will not be going back.

Located in a small strip mall in Oakton, VA next to a Hair Cuttery, Japanese Restaurant and…read moreChipotle, is this cute Thai restaurant. With light jazz music playing in the background, this restaurant is lined with wood floors, walls, booths, tables, chairs and a bar. As we sat down, we were greeted with glasses of water along with a plate of boiled pods of edamame beans along with a sauce plate of sriracha & sweet soy sauce. Yummy. A sign of a good Thai restaurant is their Drunken Noodle & Thai Fried rice. We ordered the Chicken Drunken Noodle medium spicy & Thai Crabmeat fried rice. Let's see if it has wok hei? After 15 mins, our food arrived. The portions for both plates were above average. First the crabmeat fried rice. See the picture. Very colorful. There were large lumps of crabmeat as well as flakes/strands throughout the fried rice. I smell some wok hei. There was a side of spicy Thai lime juice sauce. It was good but odd that it came with the rice. The fried rice was very crabby in flavor and smell. But the taste was missing a little more salt. Here is were you order the Spice Tray. Throw some fish sauce with red Thai chilis. Or, what I did was mix some sweet soy sauce to elevate the flavor profile. Salty and sweet with the fried rice. The star of the show was the Chicken Drunken Noodle. So many flavors of spicy, sweet, salty & herby from the basil. Add some vinegar & chilis along with fish sauce & chilis to give the sour & umami flavors. The noodles were very soft and piping hot, even after 10 mins. Some wok hei too! This is probably one of the best Drunken Noodles in the area. Even my son said it was full of flavor & best he has ever had. Service was good. Our glasses of water were refilled multiple times. It's a little one higher end of moderate but the quality was very good. We found a gem! Definitely recommend & we will be back!
