This review is mostly for their desserts only---3.5 stars. Once in awhile when I have that little craving for sweets for Thai desserts, I would drive to this area for those sweet cravings. Location: in T&K supermarket/ Vua Kho Bo (beef Jerky store)/ Quan Hy Restaurant CASH ONLY (I think) Desserts I've tried and recommend---I really don't know the names for all these desserts below...I describe them according to how they look or look at my pictures and you will see: ---Thai Desserts-- $2.50-$5 (depending on size of cup): taro cubes, sticky rice taro balls, green pandan tapioca flour noodle, ruby red water chestnuts, pandan jelly cubes, and coconut milk. ---pandan coconut balls $2 for 7 balls--- Green sweet rice filled with sweet coconut glazed, crushed peanuts & coconut, cover with fresh grated coconut shavings. ---Mini dish sweet pandan cover with a layer of coconut milk on top-- $2 for 8 mini dish. ---fried bananas---I used to get this a lot but it has been discontinued since not many people buy them. Bangkok Pai is like that okay looking, almost kinda cute girl you overlook in class cos of that hottie that just walked in. Meaning, this place is okay but there are better options around the area. However, other Thai places really cant beat their prices. Pad See Ew usually runs around $9 at other that places but here you get beef Pad See Ew for $6! If you want to add a thai tea to your order its only a $1 more! Great place for college students or starving artists on a budget cos the price is low and the portions are good. read more

I don't know what it's called, but if I had to describe what my personal favorite is here, it would resemble green little balls (haha) covered with coconut shreds. It's a hole-the-wall, take-out joint runned by a husband and wife. The husband usually does the cooking while the wife takes orders. Only 1 table with 2 chairs. The prices are pretty cheap relative to other Thai places since it's not a full service restaurant. The menu is pretty basic for Thai food. They have the typical tom yum soup, fish cake, curry (red or yellow), som tom, pad kee mao, lad nard, and pad see ew. No mee krob. The only proteins they seem to have are chicken, beef, or shrimp. No (real) fish or squid. The food itself is OK. I've gotten the crab fried rice, papaya salad with preserved mini crabs (Goi Ba Khia), glass noodle salad, beef salad, and different versions of Pad see ew multiple times. Some of the food kind of tastes like it's cooked more to please the local Vietnamese clientele than true Thai, but maybe it's just me. The desserts really stand out here since Thai desserts are somewhat hard for me to find. It's not a huge selection, but mebbe 7-10 sweet items to choose from including the standard fried banana, mango w/ sticky rice and Che Thai. No coconut flan like Thai Nakorn though. (; _ ;) OMG, I love their Che Thai! (+1 star bump to an otherwise average rating) It's a soupy dessert made with sweet coconut milk with crunchy water chestnut filled gluten, chewy dough balls, diced taro & agar, and slivers of jackfruit. Great for people looking for catering for Thai food. We had a huge party at our house and order their large try of spicy fried rice - it came out to be $40. All of our guests were fans of the rice and I'm interested to see how good their catered noodle dishes would be. As others have mentioned, this place serves take out Thai. They have pictures on the wall of the items so it makes it easier to choose. We were going to go to the Hue restaurant nearby on Sunday afternoon but there was a long line. (Ain't nobody got time for that) Anyway I ordered the beef salad, glass noodle salad, pad kee mao, two desserts and iced coffee and tea for $26. That's a lot of food for the price. At the end, there was a bit of confusion on our part but the young doode behind the counter was not very nice. That great Thai service you get everywhere else doesn't exist here. No smiles no thank yous no good byes. The food came out fast and we took it home because there's only one table inside. So 10 minutes later in the comfort of our home we inhaled the food. Everything was pretty good. My favorite was the glass noodle salad. All the flavors were right and it was delicious. The pad kee mao was a bit sweeter than normal but the noodles were cooked right with shrimp. It was a nice change because I usually get it with beef. I liked the beef salad the least because it was way too spicy and salty. If you like it really spicy, i recommend this dish. I enjoyed the che thai and green cube thing. They aren't overly sweet. Decided to try this place because a friend recommend it Upon entering I wasn't really greeted nor offered a menu... a simple "hello" would have been nice if this is truly a Thai establishment. Anyways I ordered a papaya salad, pad see ew, chicken salad (Larb) and beef salad. The boy working the front kinda gave me attitude as I was asking a question about the beef salad. I only asked one question and he seemed super annoyed and rolled his eyes as I handed him the money to pay. I'm kinda skeptical to think the food is made to order because the boy said the food would be done in 15 minutes and I got all of my dishes in 10 minutes... The papaya salad was good, but I can't say it reminded me of my mom's papaya salad only because my mom makes it spicier... The pad see ew was okay. It was lacking the "bam" factor of undeniable flavors, it was unfortunately on the bland side for me (maybe I went on an off day). Chicken salad and beef salad was okay as well, they chopped lots of cabbage in those two dishes which I'm not used to because they're shouldn't be any chopped up cabbage in them, idealistically the cabbage should only be on the side not mixed in all together. The beef salad looked a bit undercooked and kinda smelled old... Let's just say the food did not settle well with my stomach, but since it's just food to-go, I shouldn't really be expecting much. I feel like this Thai Togo place does a really good job with their meals and all. You can get a combo of pad Thai and Thai tea for just 7.50$ how cheap is that?? I usually get the pad Thai with beef and chicken or pad se Ew with beef and chicken. I'm not a fan of shrimp, but it's pretty good once in a while. Their mango sticky rice is also really good! However, the boy & the girl (her kids I assumed) are so freaking rude and their faces look like there is something in their rear ends all the times. I usually go here for to-go thai food and their food is really good, but I recently came here again after my grandpa passing away and I came here to order food for my family. One of the employees, male, was very passive aggressive when he was speaking to us. We didnt know that we had to order fried rice ahead of time so I asked for that order and he said they had no more rice. I understand that theres no more rice so I'll order something else, but when he said it he came off as rude. So I ordered a pad see ew and said I wanted one order of it and the man said "we have that but we dont have rice" like i get it you told us already. Thai hospitality was sorely missing here. this was my first and LAST trip ever to this business. why? let me tell you why.... my 2year old son accidentally knocked over a potted plant and it SHATTERED. i was mortified...and before we could even apologize and offer to pay for the damage, the lady at the counter yelled at me and said "YOU MUST PAY ME $50 FOR THE POT THAT YOUR SON BROKE!" she was quite angry and never, not once, asked if he was OK. other customers were a lot more concerned for his welfare than these people were... to add insult to injury, they didn't realize my husband and brother in law were Thai and could overhear them talk to each other if they should charge $30 or $35 and she said, nah i'm gonna make them pay $50 first of all...what the f? are they for reals? i don't have to pay a thing. what was a big potted plant doing there on a riser anyhow? what if my son had been cut and bleeding? what if the pot fell on top of him and he got hurt? the fact that they didn't even ask not once if he was alright tells me that this place isn't doing do hot... i figured they probably need the $50 far more than i needed if they were immediately this hostile and nasty. so gave them the $50. i know i sure didn't have to. but the service and attitude. unbelievable. perhaps that pot had a lot of sentimental value, i dunno...maybe she was having a bad day...she wanted us to feel like absolute crap and she was quite successful. i still have the image of my son's face and his little hands clenching on some of the leaves...dunno if he was trying to upright the plant or what...he was frozen...thank god he wasn't hurt by all the shards...this is the 1st and hopefully last time he ever breaks something...it was an accident. totally his fault. but totally an accident. and seriously, the way they handled things...HORRIBLE umm...again, i repeat my hubby is Thai and just about every Thai establishment we have ever gone to we have been treated with such great care and service. even my hubby was taken aback by how awful we were treated. my son has never damaged or broken anything before so we were both mortified and just wanted to fix the situation stat. the dessert that we got was not a big deal. it was $1.50. add the $50, the little dessert we got cost us $51.50 and i gotta say, NOT WORTH IT. will NEVER come back here again. as a fellow small business owner, this is NOT how you treat customers. our good friends were with us, and they also are business owners and were in shock by how badly they handled this situation. the only good thing about all of this is that my son wasn't hurt, just scared. if he had been hurt this would have been an entirely different sort of situation. this was simply super bad luck i guess...in any case, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

My mom introduced me to Bangkok Pai and I have been in love ever since. This place is to go only, but I really think as far as authentic goes, Bangkok Pai does it right. When I think of Thai food, I think of kicked-in-mouth flavor, and this place really delivers. They only do to-go, which is kind of a bummer, but I still make the trip at least once a month. The little to-go shop is located in the T&K Plaza off of Bolsa. For those of you familiar with the area, you know that this is quite similar to a monster truck rally. Your car could definitely be next to be crushed! All kidding aside, the place is a family owned restaurant and their food always wows me. The flavors are mouth blasting, but there are some very, very slight Vietnamese influences to some of their dishes. I recommend the Thai Spicy Fried Rice or the Spicy Beef Salad. You can't go wrong with these choices. They also have some pretty good Thai desserts as well if you're willing to give it a try. The customer interaction is not the best, but very limited so I don't take it into account too much in my review. As rude as they can be, it does not stop me from eating their fuuuuuud. read more

Had the Pad Thai and the Beef Salad. Both had a lot of flavor and definitely had that homemade and comforting taste to it, which I love. The Beef Salad was good but strong. The beef itself was good and there was a lot of it. But there was also a lot of raw onion flavor that I think either needs to be eaten with rice or with alcohol. Or I might have to request less raw onion or substitute with raw tomatoes. Also had some desserts, don't know the names of any of them. But they were all solid. Very homemade tasting, very familiar / similar to other Vietnamese desserts but a little different. More of a takeout place, only one table to eat at. Here's the thing about Bankok Pai: Cash Only Inconsistent Delicious when CORRECT We always order TO-GO. They are cash only, and the price includes all taxes, so that's good. The food is GOOD. We love their Thai Fried Rice with Crab, because they actually use real crab. The flavor is delicious, and the portion is good for 2. The bad: Very inconsistent. We'd order the same thing every time, but it's not made the same each time. Sometimes, there would be basil in the rice. Sometimes not. Very inconsistent. Last time, we ordered the thai fried rice with crab, and the crab meat had TONS of shells. Gross. How can you eat like that? Luckily, we didn't swallow any of the shells or that would have been bad. Why do we continue to go back? For that 50% that the order will actually be the one we ordered and taste GOOD. This is my family's place. FYI - the Thai tea is NOT from a bottle, they brew it from scratch. This place caters to more of a fast food thai place than a sit down restaurant. Everything is made from scratch and I especially love their desserts the most, mmm yum fried bananas, and my uncle has been a cook for as long as I've been alive. Called in for some Togo food. The lady on the phone had asked if we are paying in cash or credit card. So, I had reply cash. Arrived at the restaurant, I had noticed that I do not have enough cash so I had to pay with a credit card. The older lady acted like my credit card payment of $20 some dollars were going to put her out of business or something. Not coming back. Not credit card friendly. There are plenty of Thai food restaurants around who will be more than happy to take credit care payments without making such a big deal about thing. read more

The fried rice pictures don't look like authentic Thai spicy fried rice I used to eat at my favorite Thai restaurants in San Diego so I was skeptical and didn't order them. I ordered Pad see ew with beef. It tastes bland and a bit dry, 2 stars for it. It doesn't have the tasty flavory sauce which pad see ew is supposed to have. Small portion, the beef looks like it's the left over from yesterday and just taken out from microwave.
