As a Lao person, the biggest compliment I can give this restaurant is everything reminds of home. Authentic, as if your mom or auntie were in the back of the kitchen whipping up the food themselves. I restaurant itself is pretty sparce in terms of aesthetics, but I could honestly care less based on how good the food is. I've been coming here for over 10 years, and every server that's come and gone have all been friendly and respectful. I've never gotten the feeling that they're hiring just to fill a spot in the schedule but find people who care. In regards to the food, as I said it's one of the most authentic to Lao flavors I can get here in OC. I've never had an issue with any item, everything taste amazing, comes out hot and fast, and just hits the spot every time. My favorites are the Nam Kao, Larb, Deep Fried Short Ribs, Pad Kee Mao, Fried Rice, Khao Poon, Khao Piak, Pho Lao, Deep Fried Catfist, Beef Jerky, Lao Sausage, and plenty more that hit the spot. Located in the heart of Little Saigon, I'm embarrassed it took me this long to stop by, given the fact that all my SoCal visits forever revolve around this area. I came here with a party of 4. Lunch: *PAD SE EW (Combination $19.99)- Stir fried soft rice noodle with egg, chinese vegetables, and black sweet soy sauce. *PAD THAI (Sea food $20.99)- Fried noodles with choice of meat, eggs, bean sprouts, carrots, cilantro, and green onions. *JUNGLE PAPAYA SALAD $20.99- Shredded Green Papaya with thai eggplant, long green bean, ong choy, pork rind Food- Both noodle dishes were great. Noodles were coated well with the flavoring/sauce but still had a good bite to it. Noodles were not overcooked and the pad se ew had a very distinct charred tasted from the wok- DELICIOUS to say the least!! The papaya salad was what I was looking forward to the most. During the time or ordering, I request for this dish to be "SPICY SPICY" and asked for extra padaek. The server 100% obliged but I assumed the kitchen staff would balance things out with a little extra sugar and lime... that wasn't the case. The papaya salad was really spicy and really salty. I still managed to eat the dish but would have loved a more well-rounded mixture of flavors. Service was great. This unassuming Lao cuisine restaurant is located in a busy plaza in Garden Grove. The portions were surprisingly large and delicious. The Fried Rice (Khoua Kao) was really good, our 12-year old son enjoyed that the most, and the flavor was a pleasant change from your typical fried rice. I've been coming here all my life and it is still one of my favorite restaurants. The food is impeccable, it's cozy, and the service is fantastic. And cherry on top, it's affordable. I have so many memories here. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, etc. - this has always been a go to spot for my family and I. My favorite dishes are the Pad Kee Mao, Pad See Ew, Beef Salad, Lemon Trout, Pineapple Fried Rice, Tom Yum Goong, and the Papaya Salad. It was so delicious and the dressing on the papaya was absolutely perfect. I got the pad.see ew w chicken for my toddlers without spice. Vientiane Lao Thai used to be one of my favorite spots for years, but it has gone downhill badly. The quality has dropped dramatically. Ordering just one item now takes 40+ minutes, and the food is nowhere near what it used to be. The Crying Tiger used to be juicy, tender, and flavorful, but now it is chewy, dry, and almost flavorless. The Tom Yum soup was also disappointing and below average. Service is just as bad as the food. The staff is extremely slow, and you basically have to walk up to the servers yourself if you want any service. Great value for delicious Lao and Thai cuisine here. A bit hard to grab service but it is a very casual restaurant. I always want to try different items, but I split a bowl of my usual order when it comes to Lao food of the Khao Piak and their Nam Khao. I noticed many people on Yelp ordered the Nam Khao as well and I can confirm it's a must get! It was delicious, warm, and the rice had a nice crisp. I liked that we received a generous handful of lettuce and cilantro to eat with! Their Khao Piak was not the best I've had but still satisfies the minimum. Their noodle is more so of a flat wide noodle, just a bit more overcooked but still had a chewy texture. Our meal was satisfying and fueled us for the day! It was comforting and the flavors were authentic and definitely worth visiting. The hand chopped noodles were chewy in a good way and the crispy pork that came on the side elevated the entire experience. I didn't know that we had a Laotian restaurant in north OC until my out-of-town friend founds this spot via Instagram reel and wanted to go. I was not sure what to expect, but the food was so good, and I really enjoyed their mango sticky rice (the proportions are on point ). We're here for the second time as the same friend is back in town and really wants to try the Khao Piak because it sold out early last time. They had again sold out of Khao Piak the night before, but we're willing to make it right then for my friend! We found out the reason why was that thry make their noodles by hand, so the chef was hard at work in the back. We had other dishes in the meanwhile, and I particularly enjoy their Pad Thai and Satay skewers that also really hit the spot. We actually did not have to wait long, and the staff made sure to check up on us in case we were in a rush; their friendly and hospitable banter really made the space very relaxing and inviting as we ate. And the Khao Piak was so worth it! My friend is super satisfied, and it's such a great comfort meal -- the broth is a good consistency and very delicious. The ground chicken and crispy pork belly really works well in the overall flavor profile, and the handmade noodles were so nice and soft, but not soggy. Place the order over the phone, said it was 40 mins, cool. I went to pick it up, the total was $92. WTH. I'm like lemme see my order. 3x Sticky Rice, 2x Sausage, 1 Chicken Larb and 1 Beef Fried Rice. It never used to cost that much. So I took off the Beef Fried Rice, because it wasn't that serious. I went to check my order before I drove off, they forgot my Larb. But the cashier brought it out to me, good looking out. Now the food, sticky rice was sticky. Sausage was on point, which saved it from getting a 1 star. The Larb however was bogus. No spice, when I asked for a 5/10, no flavor, taste like a buncha burnt rice. Damn when did this place became so pricey? It would've been justified if the Larb was good. I have been wanting to dine in at this restaurant for AGES, every single SEA influencer home-cook or foodie has had MANY good things to say about this restaurant and how authentic it is. The fish was sooo crispy and crunchy, without any fishy after taste. It was an excellent pairing with the fresh som tum (which can be thought of as a relish salad). 4/5 - The beef jerky was thin and easy to chew. Love how the larb has tripe and you can choose how cooked you want the meat to be. Boat noodle usually has a darker and richer broth from pork blood. The broth also has a lot of either morning glory or basil and it was a little overpowering. But overall it was decent. This place has really good boat noodles and pad see ew. I wish that boats noodles would come with all the toppings like tripes and intestines like the traditional ones but the broth here is really good. Pad see ew is one of the best around, the sauce is super flavorful, I will def be back! Restaurant is quote small so you might have to wait if you have a big party or come at rush hours. read more

i love a small humble shop meant for locals and this definitely hit the spot the crispy rice is definitely the dish to get here, their signature, and ive been to many places similar to this before, but never had this one! wrapped in lettuce it was fresh and crunchy. personally the tom yum soup was pretty good but nothing amazing, the fish was so tender and soft, but very bony. tomatoes were yummy and broth was hot and spicy and sour, but really needed a bit more toppings, especially for the price of 17.99 i believe. i was surprised for this soup to be so expensive but quite sparse. i did love the service though, and something about a very homey restaurant with its simplicity and quiet diners makes the food taste even better. id be back to try the crispy rice and something else, and thank my friend for recommending it :) read more

Overall rating: 4/5 stars Normally, it would be a higher rating but this weekend their service let me down. I've visited this restaurant 2 times previously and they were wonderful. The food was delicious and the service was decent. This time I took my family here to celebrate a birthday. They took forever to serve my food. We had to remind them to bring us our food. It looked like they forgot about us. They were not too busy. There were two parties in front of us to sit down. Other people were getting their food. Even pickup orders were getting their orders. My family was getting hungry! All we had was the salad! Now it was beef salad and it was tasty...but the point is I shouldn't have to wait that long for my fried rice and pad see ew. They finally brought out our food piping hot. Looks like they rushed to get us the foods. Thanks! I hope this won't be a common occurrence. Everyone has an off day. Like I said, the previous times I've been here they've been great. read more
