This is a must stop every time I come up to San Jose! The banh beo is small, and comes with all the toppings separately packed. I could eat a whole order myself. Super affordable for a quick snack or for catering an event. There isn't a dining area as it is more of a pickup style where they operate from a window.
Banh beo (rice cakes) were so good! We got 100 for roughly $20. This would be great for parties. The only downfall is they are cash only. But for how much you get and how good it is, cannot beat! We didn't get to try the other items which consists of: banh day (which is basically a noodle version of the banh beo) Banh it Tran (rice dumplings) Banh hoi (woven rice vermicelli) Not sure if they still sell a tofu jello item but I didn't see it on the menu. I heard this was really good but never got a chance to try it! Would def come back when I'm in SJ or for parties. Soo good! Wish they sold the crunchy fried pork fat as a topping here, but either way really good.

I usually order the Banh Beo tray, which comes with fish sauce - always a favorite. I call ahead (a few hours before) and pick up to save time (and to make sure they're open). Can't beat the prices here, $18 for 100 banh beo is so good in this economy! The texture of the banh beo was good, and my family enjoyed the bite-sized portions. The Nước chấm was also good, surprisingly really well packaged too. This is a great place to go for an affordable potluck/gathering dish.
Read on Yelp review that this place next to the Banh Cuon place is great convenience, so I decided to give it a try. Not knowing Vietnamese, we had no clue what the menu said. Luckily, when I asked them what they are selling, they opened the box to show me one by one what those were. Banh Beo is the small rice cakes that look like a shallow bowl and inside are mashed egg yolks and dried shrimp floss . It tasted soft and great with a dash of fish sauce. A box came with 50 and is cash only for $9. Each is as big as you connect the thumb and index finger together. We got a box and this together with the Banh Cuon (rice noodles) next door made a great breakfast. They close on Tuesday.

Pretty decent prices, I got 150 banh beo for $27. CASH ONLY NO CARD, APPLE/GOOGLE PAY. The banh beos come with fish sauce too. They do speak English so don't be afraid to order on the phone with them. I usually place an order at least a day before. Pick-up on time too. This is a great party tray deal and will wow your guests. The ladies are super nice too!! Please support this business.

If i can describe the taste, it is like eating deviled eggs except with rice cakes instead of egg whites. Parking lot was very small and easy to miss if you don't know where to go! You know, as much as I'd love to say that it was someone's recommendation or the awesome reviews that brought us here, I'd be lying if I said either was the case. Rather, it was a fortuitous series of mistakes - turning the wrong way out of a parking lot, not realizing it for about ten blocks, and then missing my first chance to make a U-turn to get back on track - that led my friend to seeing the signage for Banh Tolan and wanting to stop in. I've said in the past that there's nothing like randomly stumbling upon great finds, but even I have to admit this takes it to an entirely different level! Tucked away at the back of an incredibly small shopping complex, Banh Beo Tolan is easy to miss if you're not familiar with it or using GPS (or happen to find it by chance...). The place is pretty small and is purely a to-go business, though they're still taking orders from their doorway thanks to COVID. The menu is similarly modest, listing only a handful of items - their namesake banh beo, banh day, banh it tran, banh bot loc, and banh hoi. However, based on the photos on Yelp, every one of them looked so good! Since we had just finished lunch and were actually heading to another eatery to pick up food, I didn't get as many things as I otherwise might have and went with just their BANH BEO (Steamed Rice Cakes with Dried Shrimp, Green Onions, and Mung Beans). It was also a little intimidating to see that everything comes in "bulk" quantities (I got the smallest portion - 50 pieces for $12)...until you realize each piece is literally bite-sized. The rice cakes themselves are soft and tender, the dried shrimp added a savory punch, and the mung bean gave it some nuttiness. For me, the only thing missing are the fried pork rinds that some places will include, but it's fine. Just drizzle some of the accompanying nuoc cham (fish sauce) and you are good to go! The one thing that I super appreciate about Banh Beo Tolan is how well they packaged our orders for us. Not only was each piece neatly arranged inside the take out box, but they also tightly wrapped the container of nuoc cham, so there's little concern about it spilling in the bag, let alone your car. If Banh Beo Tolan was located in SF (or just anywhere closer than San Jose), I'd come back all of the time, whether to bring to get togethers with friends or even just to have as a snack in the fridge (they reheat super well, whether lightly steamed or microwaved). But alas, I'll have to wait for my next trip down here to get another order or to try their Banh It Tran!
Been craving banh beo and husband found this place all thanks to Yelp. Definitely bang for your buck as it's $9 for 50 pieces! Was a bit more doughy than what I would prefer, but it still hits the spot. It's a small parking lot and you literally just order at the counter in front of the door. It's just a grab and go type of business. And don't forget it's cash only!
I'm a huge fan of Banh Beo and I haven't been able to find a place as good as the banh beo I get in Santa Ana, and this place is for one, such a great deal, and second, super authentic and delicious. They're cash only and super simple storefront with just one guy interacting with customers. Menu is straightforward and prices are super affordable. 50 could definitely feed 2 people which means it's only $4.50 per person!

I found this place while searching on yelp for a store that sells boxes/party trays of banh beo as I was introduced to it at a vietnamese party and fell in love with it! It's one of my favorite Vietnamese dish! Tried this place out and it was so delicious so now I come every so often to buy a box when I crave Banh beo. This place is CASH ONLY so come prepared. The staff here speak Vietnamese and little to no english, but it's pretty simple to order. I don't know how to speak Viet but I just pointed to the 50 piece on the menu and was able to order just fine. They're also so nice and friendly! Highly recommend that you come and try it out! Super affordable too!
Always so good! We order the banh beo with all the fixings... the shrimp, onion and green bean (I think they mean the yellow mung bean). It's cheap, always fresh and delicious, and the only place I know that makes it on point every time! Order ahead (I phoned in my order 2 days earlier, but one day ahead is fine), with your name and phone number and pay cash at pick up. I heard that they do speak English, (from other reviews), but I speak Vietnamese so no issues there. They serve an order of (non-spicy) fish sauce dipping sauce with every order. 150 of these little round guys is a measley $30. You could eat a dozen of these easily in one sitting. We ordered 300 for $60 and they came in 2 small tin trays. The parking lot is very small so be prepared. There is no where to sit and eat, and usually there's a little line just to pick up your order. I was pleasantly surprised to see plenty of parking and no line to pick up my 4 pm order yesterday. You know it's got to be legit if the establishment is named after it. There's literally three items on the menu, but everyone goes for the banh beo! The banh beo were delicious! Plenty of nuoc cham to top it all off. I don't know if I'd trek it all the way to east San Jose regularly for these little gems, but maybe for special occasions. Also FYI, they are open Christmas day. No need to preorder for a tray of 100, although they were taking preorders for larger quantities. I'm not sure what qualifies as a "large order". Unless I am craving in a restaurant, I will never get Banh Beo elsewhere. These little guys, yes they are smaller versions than what you'd get at the restaurants, are seasoned so well. I really taste the fried shallots and each banh beo has a slight indentation where the toppings settle. The toppings are kept in its place. Every bite is banh beo heaven. Tips for newbies - As appetizer each person can eat about 25 pcs - Mung bean on the side is always safer - Go next door and get the Banh Cuon and fish cake to make it a complete meal - If you think you're good with 50 pcs, get 100... trust me - Service is quick here so don't be intimidated if you see 3-4 people lining up What's banh beo? You can Google it but in my own words and not ChatGPT they are little flat rice cups that has a savory flavor due to its toppings of dried shrimp, green onions/scallions, fried shallots and in some places they add pork skin. They are great for appetizers at parties and are great accompaniments to other Vietnamese rice roll dishes such as banh cuon. read more

My go to items to order are Banh Beo or Banh Day! Food Banh Beo or Banh Day The Banh Beo is not the traditional size, it's miniature. Definitely recommend ordering a party tray if you're looking to bring a dish to an event or to eat for lunch/dinner. Price The cost has increased quite a bit over the last 2 years since the pandemic began. I ordered 150 Banh Beo pieces for $24 and it came with a complimentary side of nuoc mam (fish sauce). It's freshly made-to-order, which can take a bit longer, but you can taste the quality of the food. The employees there do not speak much English and are fluent in Vietnamese. It's cash only so be prepared before you arrive. Location/Parking It can be tricky during peak hours (ex. holidays/weekends) since it is located in a small plaza shared with other businesses. read more

This place makes very nostalgic banh beo for me. It was super good, a little thicker than other places, and very good portions for the price. The nuoc cham was a bit spicy and lacked a bit of flavor but I enjoyed it either way. Prices got updated in November 2024 but it's still super worth it. My favorite spot to pick up banh beo. Cheap and delicious. I didn't know what banh day was until I came here, but those are my favorite. Chewier than banh beo, similar to the texture to banh bot lot, but with the same flavors of banh beo. Nuoc mam here is delicious. We always call ahead for pick up, so it's packed and ready. The plaza is a little cramped, especially because they're located all the way inside. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with E Man Jose. LOVE that I can get my Viet food fix without breaking my wallet. HATE that I want EVERYTHING! From Ốc (snails), Bánh Cuốn (steamed rice noodle rolls), Bò Né (steak & eggs), Chả Cá (turmeric fish), Bánh Bột Chiên (pan-fried rice cakes w/ egg) to Bánh Kẹp Lá Dứa (pandan waffles) just to name a few. Because I can't find these things in SF, the struggle is real on where to go. But, on the upside? Since most of these mom and pop places are wallet-friendly, you can hit up multiple places the same day. With the pandemic, E Man Jose businesses are struggling more than others due to language barriers, little/no social media presence, and not having the tech for delivery so it's a win-win...you fill your tummy with deliciousness while supporting a mom and pop shop. After getting my Ốc fix nearby, I stopped by Bánh Bèo Tolan. Their specialty is Bánh Bèo, steamed rice cakes from the Huế region in Vietnam. This is a takeout only operation (call ahead for large orders/catering trays). CASH ONLY. The bánh bèo are small, about the size of a half dollar coin so one box of 50 can be polished off by one hangry person. Once you start popping them in your mouth, it's hard to stop so overorder than underorder. S E R V I C E The cashier doesn't speak much English but is friendly. It's a two women operation and you can see them freshly steaming the rice cakes in back. I appreciate that they securely packed everything...the container of nước chấm was tightly wrapped in saran wrap. Imagine if it wasn't and it spilled IN your car. OOOOF. It would smell like Joe's (YOU) basement. P A R K I N G Tight and limited parking in the plaza. There's only one to two spots dedicated per a business so you may have to double park. Overall, solid bánh bèo. Not my fav in Man Jose but it def hits the spot when you're craving it. AND, you can't beat that price! read more

They were closing in 15 minutes and I called to ask if I can still put in an order on the phone and I was still 10 minutes away. The lady took my order of banh beo and banh it tran. She told me I needed to order at least 6 banh it tran because she didn't want to steam only a little bit. I told her I want 10, but she said well can I do 6 or 12 instead. Maybe her steam tray only fits 6 at a time... she then suggested I get banh day instead but I really wanted banh it. When I got there, parking was hard to find. My husband ended up dropping me off on the side I figured I wouldn't have to wait long since I phoned in the order 10 minutes prior. Service was ok, not the friendliest but wasn't rude. They were there just to make food, take your money knowing that you will return because it's so good and inexpensive. I waited about 10 minutes and didn't realized it was cash only. Glad I keep an emergency stash behind my phone in my phone case. There wasn't a place to sit and eat so we found a park and ate our food. My daughter loves banh beo but said she didn't want any at first. She ended up eating half of the order :( I would have ordered her own if she wanted some too. I was hoping I was going to eat it for lunch and dinner! The banh it was good but slightly too sweet for me. We normally make them smaller so it's more enjoyable to eat. I should have ordered banh day instead like the lady suggested. This place will definitely be my to go to when I come back to visit. It was so inexpensive and yummy! This is my family's go to whenever we order banh beo. It's perfect for a simple lunch, party, potluck, or any occasion really! Prices have gone up but I'll still order since it's understandable considering how hard businesses were hit during the pandemic. We ordered over the phone to pick up same day and they were super accommodating of us. We placed an order for 100 pieces and it was $16. It also comes with nuoc mam but I think they make it super sweet which is not to my liking. Parking lot is pretty small so it can be hard to find parking if the plaza is busy. Cash only! read more
I absolutely love getting trays of Banh beo from here! I always drop by Banh Beo Tolan when I go to San Jose and I have to say they have one of the best Banh beo that I've ever tried! Also, they charge a very reasonable price. It is about $17 for a tray of 100 Banh beo. read more
