It's been a min since I last came. I stopped by cause I wanted something bread so I can make my own banh mi at home, but they didnt sell bread anymore. This was many months ago. We stopped by early this Sunday morning and was pleasantly surprised that they have expanded the menu from mainly banh mi. The now have Pho and rice noodle dishes. B5 combo is a solid can't go wrong choice. All the protein was cooked well and seasoned nicely. Egg roll was good. Fish sauce is going to be the grey area because thats always personal preference, it was good, but would say more on the fishy side, which my fiance liked. Im used to my moms sauce which is more on the sweeter side. I also got an Vietnamese iced coffee and I will say it is probably the best Vietnamese ice coffee that I've had in thr ABQ area. Its was strong and nice and smooth. It wasn't too sweet. The reason why I say this is the best iced Vietnamese cofee I've had in ABQ is because other places, the Vietnamese coffee is bitter or its not balanced enough with flavor. At over $8 for a cup, it's pricey but if i need a Vietnamese coffee fix, this will be a good to spot. I will say they keep it really clean in there and the white esthetic was pleasing on this sunny Sunday while we were eating in there. read more

The traffic was a mess at lunchtime but I made it and was glad I did! It was my first time here to try this before my next appointment so I needed something quick. Typically I'd get a bowl of Pho but the temperature was about 100 so no Pho. I opted to try the Noodle Salad bowl w raw veggies and assorted cooked meats on top. (See pic) It was a good choice but it took longer to get that I expected. The desserts looked very tempting but I didn't have enough time so I'll try them on my next visit. (See pic) They had a big selection of Vietnamese cold fruit drinks and coffee drinks. Again, I'll be going back to try some. (See pic) The nice thing was that half the dining room had Vietnamese customers which I consider a good sign for authenticity. The place was very clean and attractive. The staff were extremely polite. My Noodle Salad Bowl came in a big paper bowl w a lid so I was able to eat half and take the rest home easily. (See pic.) It was okay but I wasn't crazy about it. Easy carryout brunch. Will repeat. After some shopping at TJ Maxx, I stopped in for a coffee and egg banh mi. Service was quick, the banh mi was packed with veggies, and the Vietnamese iced coffee with pandan cold foam was a nice rec by the young man working the cash register. Looked as good as it tasted! Saw lots of families dining in, enjoying the hot plates and boba teas. Eager to return and try the pho, since I've already tried and liked the grilled pork banh mi (no gristle, just meat). I love Vietnamese food and was excited to try their Banh Mi and teas. I ordered #1 bc I love everything and their fruit tea with passionfruit and guava. First, impression, the service was polite and understanding. The sandwich and drink came out within 10 min. Their Banh Mi was flavorful and was in a 9in roll that was lightly crispy and filled pretty well. I am used to shorter rolls that are stuffed way more. I felt like I ate more bread than toppings, otherwise I would rate it higher. It's about a $12 sandwich, on par with Subway footlong prices. The fruit tea was great, although I question the practicality of the canister it was served in. Instead of a plastic cup with a straw/no straw, it was in a plastic can that you can open like a soda can on top. I disliked how I couldn't reseal it or reuse it. If I wanted to recycle it, I'd have to put effort taking out the lemon wedges, which I did in order to. So, if I had the choice, I wouldn't get those cans. Everything costed about $20 before tip. I think in the future, I'll ask if I can get extra meat and veggies to make the Banh Mi feel more full. The place was also very bright and clean. I liked the atmosphere where there's plenty of seating. They also have every table with soup utensils and condiments bc they also serve pho. read more

First time trying Banh Me and U, and I'm already looking forward to coming back! The menu is quite impressive. They offer quite a variety of Bahn Mi Sammie's, Noodles, salads dang, they also have the Korean Corn dogs!! Let's just say I can come here many times and order something different! Since it was my first time I got the first Banh Mi sandwich on the menu, and it was out of this world! The balance of the savory meats, the pickled daikon radish and the freshness of the cilantro is just EPIC!! The drink menu is extensive, Bobas, Teas, matchas galore!! Again, I'm already focused on what I'm getting next time I come in! The service is friendly and welcoming, we were those people who showed up 30 mins before close.. I know I know. Fail! For a restaurant with Banh Mi in the name, Id expect the Banh Mi to be a lot better. I got a Banh Mi Thit Nuong (grilled pork) The thit nuong is okay tasting, but it is chopped up into little tiny pieces and doesn't seem to be actually grilled. The bread is what really ruined it for me, they use soft hoagie/sub rolls instead of a crispy baguette, immediate vibe killer. I also got a viet iced coffee, the cup was over 3/4 full with ice, for the price I would expect more than 2 sips of coffee before the cup is empty. Only giving two stars because the goi cuon and peanut sauce were pretty decent, but with plenty of other much better Vietnamese spots in the area, I do not plan on returning here. read more

I was so full on only half of the delicious pork banh mi sandwich and half of the shrimp spring roll! The sandwich has the delicious soft bread with soft crust and loaded with the meat and vegetables. Several sauces including a chili/oil, siracha, hoisin, etc. were set on each table. The shrimp spring roll came with the peanut sauce. The order itself came with two very generously sized spring rolls. The triple chocolate moor had a hard ganache with white and dark chocolate mousse inside. Was light in texture but yet filling! Clean restaurant. Very nice staff. I was invited and it was my first time. The place was clean & warm decor. The young lady was extremely nice and helpful for sure. Got my grilled pork barn mi(very good & have to say), along with the mango sunrise fizzy. The drink was refreshing and tasty. I needed another item that was without all the bread so I got the chicken hot plate. It was pretty good but not what expected and funny enough served with a whole sandwich hoagie bread lol. No long preamble here. I've done something I've NEVER done in a restaurant or takeout - I ordered the same thing two days in a row it's so good. Specifically the Special Banh Mi with extra pate and the Special Bun that includes, shrimp pork, beef and spring rolls. Giant Portions. The sandwich is close to a foot long and the bun is a large bowl. These are delicious. Coda has a slightly larger sandwich but this is much tastier. The pho was good, but my favorite were the shrimp and pork eggrolls that I KNOW they made in house because the filling wasn't the typical Chinese take out eggrolls. So fresh and YUMMY! I got a passion fruit fruit tea, a grilled pork banh me and an ube coco drink with egg pudding. The desserts - er um ..... * * * New Mexico serves Vietnamese food that is different from what you get in the rest of the country. Different and in many cases, better. Banh Mi and U splits the different and better distinction. The sandwich operation is not that unusual. Execution is much much better than the execution in most of the other Vietnamese sandwich shops I have been to. Blue Ribbon all the way. The dessert operation is more experimental. Frankly there are a lot of flops. * * * On the absolutely delightful sandwich operation: I ate with people who ate orthodox sandwiches. They absolutely loved what they had. I got a "de-constructed" version - where they take a ton of sandwich ingredients and put them on a plate. It is a huge plate with lots of different items on it. They give you an absolutely first rate banh to go with the plate. The bread would be just fine by itself. But you take all the runny egg yolk from the fried egg, And the natural juices from the hot pork, and sauce that you poured on top of the whole proceedings ... And you have fine fine fine fine fine eating. Fine without the bread - just with what is on your plate. Fine with the bread soaking up all the juices. I was a happy camper. * * * The Vietnamese are the master French bakers of Southeast Asia. The French make a distinction between boulangeries and patisseries which the Vietnamese do not particularly honor. But there is a difference between being able to bake amazing bread and the ability to make amazing desserts. Banh Me and U's bread is off-the-charts good. The establishment tries to be not-my-grandmother's Vietnamese baker for dessert. I miss their grandmother. Banh Mi and U goes for a modern American approach. Chocolate chip cookies. Lots and lots and lots of flavored cheesecakes. These are not New York style cheesecakes - although one item calls itself that and may be true to the recipe. Generally these are gelatinous constructions made with some sort of Bavarian. They fuse the sugar overdose of American desserts With the no-flavor flavor of Chinese desserts. My pistachio cheesecake had some artificial pistachio flavoring in it. But it had maybe 1/4 of the taste of commercial pistachio ice cream. * * * They also try to get cute with the Vietnamese coffee. I had a banana-topping-topped Vietnamese coffee. This was up there with the pistachio cheesecake. There was very little banana in my banana topping. It did add a layer of thick sugary mass on to an already sweet Vietnamese coffee. * * * But never mind dessert. The sandwiches here are fantastic. Banh Mi and U is destination lunch eating. If you absolutely positively need to get a sugar fix afterwards, Albuquerque has no shortage of ice cream parlors. read more

I want to love it.... I really do but I feel my review will need some context. I'm a Cali girl and spent a lot of time in Alhambra so I like a real Banh me, the flavorful meat sticking out the ends, tons of pickled veggies and the kick of jalapeños that sometimes you have to pick out because it's so hot. Usually in LA you walk up to a counter of a hole in the wall and walk out $10 later. This place is like a Starbucks version, so cute and clean and a slightly anime vibe, great to meet someone for lunch plus it opens at 10AM for early lunch eaters. For a sandwich and a coffee it's $21 so there is that. The sandwich was good and probably great to many but it was a little too vanilla for me. It was light on meat and fillings and for the price was underwhelming. The viet Coffee is premade so I couldn't ask for less condensed milk and that felt odd that I couldn't customize it. My first visit to this establishment was today May 1, 2025. It's a combination of sandwich and teas restaurant and bakery. It has nice parking, and is a pleasant and comfortable spot. Modern decor with great natural light. Staff is friendly and helpful. I have not eaten Banh Mi often, so I needed some time with the menu. The pomegranate tea was refreshing and had a nice slice of grapefruit. I had the Sausage Banh Mi sandwich. As expected, the bread was delicate and light, there was a nice blend of cucumbers, lettuce and thinly sliced sausage. I ordered the old fashioned chocolate cake and 2 macarons and will eat them later. Excellent food, I certainly will return. Sandwiches are good the bread taste very fresh in addition to the fillings. I visited on two separate occasions to try a couple of sandwiches. The first time I I went it was very busy and there was very little sitting inside so I got it to go. I had the ube foam coco drink which was ok but a little on the pricy side for the size. The second time I had the me and u fruit tea which seemed to be in a bigger sealed can/cup. It was delicious and would definitely try more teas on my next visit. I had the special and grilled pork sandwiches which were really good. The grilled pork sandwich was not as filling as the meat special sandwich. But I liked the taste of the grilled pork more. For dessert I had Is the blueberry cheesecake and a couple of macrons. The blueberry lavender macron had a strong lavender flavor which was too much for me. The orange truffle macron was very good and not too sweet. The blue berry cheese cake was good but the portion was very small. My spoon was bigger than the cheesecake. Overpriced for the desserts I had. Hence the minus one star for the desserts and prices. read more

New banh mi place in the Northeast Heights neighborhood. This replaces the previous Tako Ten restaurant. Shop is well decorated with nice instagram-friendly walls. I went during their soft opening promotion and, to be completely honest, was not impressed with the A1 and A2; the bread tasted bland and sandwiches felt lacking. A1 is the special combination which includes various types of deli meat. A2 is the grilled pork. Gave them a second chance at their grand opening and they definitely improved! Sandwiches had abundant meat and were more flavorful. Price is definitely higher than I would expect for banh mi ($7-8 in California, for reference). Their ca phe sua da/Vietnamese iced coffee is a bit weak in my opinion and also pricey. I do like how they have a discount for cash purchases. There's a small baked goods display with prices ranging from $4-5. This is a good spot to consider picking up a bag of some fresh short baguettes for home. Service: excellent and prompt. Got our sandwiches pretty quickly despite having a rush at opening. Staff was very friendly and was quick to correct any mistakes on our orders. read more

Getting into Banh Me & U's parking lot at lunchtime from eastbound Montgomery is a little tricky thanks to the backup of people trying to get into the chicken chain, but it's definitely worth it. I had the special - liver pate, ham, meat floss and another meat, fresh veggies, pickled daikon and carrot on a housemade baguette. It was so good! Super fresh and yummy. My husband got the ube foam coco drink, a tasty blend of sweetness with the earthy ube and pieces of coconut. I think the drinks are kind of pricey so I didn't order one for myself. They have some fantastic looking pastries; I didn't get one today but will plan to order one on a future visit. Service was friendly and efficient. Quite Good, got the grilled pork banh mi and a cheese Danish. wow their bakery section is not mentioned on the online menu, but they had multiple slices of cake and several interesting pastries and macaroons. My friend also enjoyed her banh mi, and cake. The fizzer was good, although at the counter they didn't really have much of an explanation of it. Place is cute, very instagram styled, but comfortable. They are very polished, i expected to find that its a chain, but googling it only showed the local option. so perhaps they have a big branding marketing/designer person onboard. read more

Finding this little Vietnamese cafe/fast food venue last Friday was a pleasant surprise. It's a relatively new eatery located in Albuquerque's NE Hodgin neighborhood (Montgomery Plaza).
