Parking is crazy to find so I parked illegally (shhh) and ran in and placed my order and ran back out and waited near my car. I waited about 10 minutes, there were a few people inside the tiny restaurant but they looked like they had a lot of take out orders. I ordered the roast pork (da jay) sandwich and it was delicious. All of the ingredients and flavors in the sandwich blended wonderful and it was very tasteful with a hint of spiciness since I ordered medium spicy. I didn't like the crunchiness of the bread and should've told them not to toast the bread. The main thing that ticked me off about my (da jay) was how small it was in comparison to other Bahn mi's I've had in the past. That sandwich was way too good to be that small. I was still hungry after I ate my lil Bahn mi. However, the taste was soo good I will definitely return to check out some other items on the menu. My lychee bubble tea was on point and hit the spot. LOL @ all the people who think the food here is phenomenal, classic, and traditional --- Sandwiches here are definitely not banh mis. It would be more accurate to say that they are Vietnamese-inspired sandwiches.* Examples: -The bread used is not "freshly baked French baguettes" - more like thin Italian rolls. -Too much pickled carrot/daikon. Usually, the highlights of a banh mi are the french baguette and meat. The pickled vegetables are meant to be garnish. -Sriracha is used to make it spicy. A proper banh mi has slices of jalapeno. -The Traditional Banh Mi has one small, thin slice of ham and lots of ground pork. There is *no* ground pork in a traditional banh mi. Now, this wouldn't bother me as much if the menu weren't so misleading. It emphasizes tradition, Vietnamese ham, and liver pate, none of which really exist in this sandwich. It should just be called "ground pork in an italian roll". The spring rolls, likewise, suck. The rice paper is dipped in warm water for too long, so it doesn't hold ingredients well. (The ingredients in the spring roll also do not taste good.) The milk tea tastes like milk-flavored water. Despite the shortcomings, the tapioca pearls are excellent, and are consistently good. Those pearls taste like they were made within the last 1-2 hours at all times of the day. The fruit tea boba drinks are the only thing that's good here. --- * I can say this because of my cultural background. And I grew up in a town so Vietnamese that, as a kid, I thought Vietnamese people were 90% of the US population. Which is all to say, I was born with Vietnamese food in my blood. ** The workers here all speak Cantonese, so the food may be an HK-interpretation of Vietnamese food. They are also polite and nice. I got their Banhmi (7.75) with the Grilled Chicken, Kept it mild and also included a Match bubble tea (4.50). I would say for the area, its not super expensive like dekalb market but its not super cheap eats either. Their bubble tea isn't bad they have a nice selection, I liked that it wasn't crazy sweet and its brewed fresh for you. The Grilled chicken had a bunch of carrots, cucumbers with a mayo type based sauce. The chicken wasn't dry and had sweet bbq marinate. I would say overall they do the highlight was the bread, it was crunchy outside and fluffy inside. It held everything together and was able to absorb any sauce of juice. This was one of my favorite go-tos in Park Slope, and my quick stop right before traveling to the airport. I loved the quality/quantity of this food for its price. Extremely tiny place with a few seats along the window, mostly a take out place/delivery. They also serve pho and some appetizers as well. A good selection of drinks. It's about a 15 minute walk from where I am and always worth picking up in person--the baguette is so crispy and whatever you get the ingredients are always fresh and expertly prepared. New fav is the smoked duck roll-let's be real-the rolls are a vehicle for the peanut sauce which I could drink straight from a bowl. This is probably the only banh mi (Vietnamese Sandwich) place I will think about when I want a vietnamese sandwich. I've been to other banh mi places in Brooklyn and in the city, and they've either been too pricey, or too poorly made - this place is both reasonably priced, and very well made. Banhmigo's is a hole-in-the-wall 4-seat eatery at the corner of 7th Avenue and Lincoln Place at Park Slope. Easily walkable from 7th Avenue Station, and perfect for pick-ups. Banh Mi consists of a single baguette filled with savory or sour ingredients, including beef, chicken or pork. Banh mi has that certain quality of cutting your gums from the toasted French bread, but that's common with all French breads isn't it? Spring Rolls are also a staple of the lunch-on-the-go foods on offer for the place. Shrimp Spring rolls are the common winner but the Duck Spring Rolls are the item I pick on a regular basis - I'm unaware of any other places that have this. Peanut sauce and Stiracha on the side, you'll be in heaven. These 'street foods' as some might call them, are truly the box lunches you want to get on your way to work. I'm a bit surprised to see all of the raving reviews about the banh mis and bubble tea here. The food is proof that this is not an authentic Vietnamese operation and is only an imitation of one at best. We got grilled chicken and braised short rib banh mis and a Thai bubble tea. The banh mis were both lacking in meat and had a ton of shredded carrots and pickled daikon to make up for the missing meat. Every time I would take a bite of my sandwich, my teeth would get stuck on a thick, dry cilantro stem. A traditional banh mi would have cilantro more than its stem to give the sandwich a nice sour kick. The stem just doesn't cut it. The short ribs were mostly fat and the non-fatty parts were not very tender, therefore not having the full braised texture. The grilled chicken was marinated just fine but was extremely dry. Neither of the banh mis contained any jalapeños or chilis, which contributed to the lack of flavor. The bread was not a French baguette but instead an Italian hoagie roll, which again is why this banh mi cannot possibly be seen as the real deal. The Thai bubble tea was awful. First off, it had no sugar or condensed milk. This could have been okay if we asked for no sugar, but their original recipe seems to not call for either of those essential ingredients. The bobas were extremely mushy, which means that they were overcooked to the point they were blending with the flavor of tea. At times, I would swallow a boba without even tasting or chewing it! I was excited to try this place, but won't be coming back. Within a 15 minute distance, there are other banh mi spots that stay true to the ingredients of their dishes. read more

Best banh mi I've had in Brooklyn in a LONG time. I'm torn between writing this review because I don't want there to be a line out the door every time I come, but I also want this place to still be in business next time I want a great banh mi sandwich! It reminds me of the banh mi of my childhood (in Brooklyn Chinatown when it costs $2.75 and you got one hell of a meal). The guys who work here are nice (at least the ones who speak English), and the two sandwiches I tried (the traditional and the grilled pork) were both amazing. I liked the grilled pork a bit more, as the flavoring was stronger and it reminded me of how good banh mi could be (grilled pork is a staple of Vietnamese "fast" food). Only complaint was that the "spicy" wasn't even that spicy at all. Luckily, they had two bottles of sriracha ready to go at their eat-in counter (it seated 4, but not comfortably). My only real complaint is that their menu lists their rolls as spring rolls and also makes distinctions for some summer rolls. But it appears as if they're all really summer rolls (at least the duck breast one that we had), so be wary of that. They're technically still spring rolls, but not the fried variety. They were still good though. Speaking of fast, service was quick and with a smile (they also deliver for free with a minimum of $10). Bubble tea is a bit pricey (well, not compared to Hanco's), and they don't take credit cards yet (as of 12/15/12), but they will. Also, a dollar off sandwiches for a limited time, and a student discount is also available. Will definitely come back here! The fact that it's in Park Slope, they have the right to sell overpriced mediocre asian food. Da King was kind of meh, the sandwich was missing a lot of flavor and ingredients. I asked for a medium spice level but it wasn't even spicy at all. I ended up drowning the sandwich in sriracha just so my tastebuds can finally feel something. The smoked duck breast roll was a complete rip off. $5.50 for two measly shreds of duck meat? You gotta be kidding me right? The summer roll was filled with mostly lettuce and vermicelli and again no cucumbers or chives inside. The peanut sauce was so and so, I wish they had chopped peanuts in it. Thai iced tea was another rip off, about half the cup was ice.. I paid $4 for a cup of ice folks. All in all, I'm sticking to Saint Marks or Chinatown for banh mi. You could get so much more flavor and taste for a much lower price than what they charge at Banhmigos. read more

Yes this place has banh mi and tacos. I can't speak for the tacos but I do enjoy their banh mis I would order the Traditional Banh mi or the Grilled Pork Banh mi. You can ask for different levels of spiciness. Be care of "spicy," as it really is spicy. On a hot day, I would like to get their Viet Coffee which is very sweet but very strong. I can't speak for the 8 other flavors, but the "Traditional" banh mi might be the best banh mi I've ever had. It's simple, but very well balanced, making this sandwich much more interesting and thought-out than what you'd expect for $6.50. The bread comes from a local bakery, made to "secret Banhmigo specs," according to the cashier, and and the vegetable toppings are pickled on-premise. My sandwich also came out gently toasted and steaming hot in mere minutes, and unlike other sandwiches I've had, it doesn't get boring halfway though. Instead, my palate was refreshed with every alternating bite of sweet pickled toppings, making every bite taste like it was the first. It's a bit of a journey for me, but I will definitely be coming back for more. Go. Now. I'll let your Banhmigo experience do the rest of the talking. Edit: I quickly came back a second time to try a few more sandwiches with some friends. To my friends, I have often called this place, only semi-jokingly, the best restaurant in NYC That may be in part due to my massive bias towards banh mi joints. Two things that really set apart banhmigos' from other banh mi I've had in the city are the inclusion of crispy pork in their traditional sandwich, and their super tasty mayo sauce. Many other places could be said to have fresh crisp baguettes or fresh pickled vegetables, so little things like this really stand out. The beef short rib sandwich is a very well conceived addition to the menu, bringing strong anise flavor and richness a bit like niu rou mian/Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Had an Eat24 coupon so I decided to place an order with Banhmigos on my way home. Got a classic banh mi and an order of shrimp rolls to meat the minimum spend requirements. The first few bites of the bahn mi were all bread, and it was much too crunchy for me. I had low hopes, but by the end of the sandwich I said, well ok that was good, but not amazing. Then I had the shrimp rolls. I'm a sucker for peanut sauce, so these things had me sold. They were also huge and delicious. With my discounts, the meal was under $10. Pretty amazing. This is a small shop with a counter and a few stools that face the street. I ordered the grilled pork. It's tasty, but I don't think it's that authentic. The meat was fine, but it could have had a bit more depth to the flavor. The bread is crusty, but as someone else mentioned, not crunchy to the point of being difficult to bit into. I'm a huge fan of the special mayo they use -- so creamy, so good, but they either didn't use it or skimped on it, because I don't really recall much of it. I also think that it could be a bit more generous with their portions. Also, everyone who works there speaks Chinese. It is completely possible that they are vietnamese who are ethnically Chinese and hence speak the language but are familiar with Vietnamese food. it does though seem a bit "Americanized" so that's probably a moot point. read more

The way the pho comes somewhat deconstructed with the broth in a separate container and the bean sprouts, jalapeños, and sauces in a separate bag, makes me see how traditional this place keeps it. In Thailand they do the same thing so I kind of like that the bubble tea is good but just ask for a little less ice ! Came here with my friend who loves this place. We got the spicy chicken bahn mi. The wait was about 10 minutes, which isn't bad. The chicken was so tender and spicy like they advertized. The name threw me off, here I am, thinking it's a fusion and it's not going to be authentic....cause I mean, there really isn't any good viet places in NYC (let's be honest) I ordered this for take out via grubhub and it was pretty quick. Got the grilled chicken, spicy while my friend got the short rib banh mi. The first thing I noticed was how hot the sandwiches were. My favorite place in NYC (banh mi Saigon) isn't hot. So I know this is hot off the oven. I ripped my first half and eagerly took a bite. The flaky air crispy bite of that baguette sold me! I like a good balance of bread:filling ratio. The pickled carrot/daikon was delish! The chicken were diced but soft. The only issue I had was my first bite had a big chunk of mayo. So I couldn't really taste the flavor of the chicken until the very end piece (the tip of the baguette) next time I'll ask for less mayo or maybe a evenly distribution of mayo. And they definitely leave the seeds in the jalapeños (yassss) My friend really liked the short rib so we split our sandwiches. So I got to tried the other half of the short rib. Personally, it wasnt for me but I can see why it's a hit. The meat was tender and soft, definitely been cooking for a while and had soaked up all the flavors from the broth, maybe....too much in for me. Also, there were big pieces of fat.
