Must order the chicken sandwich when you come to Bao Chick. It is perfectly seasoned and the portion size is ridiculous. Stopped by during the lunch hour after seeing social media posts about this hidden gem. I order the double chicken sandwich and although in the pricey side ($20) it is a must try. The chicken is crispy and flaky on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. I've had plenty of chicken sandwiches in my day and this is top 3, no question. Ordering was quick and I was able to score some sample dumplings from the cashier while I waited. This is in a food court so the eating area is shared with other eateries. Get here early during lunch time if want to get a parking spot. It gets crowded.
Got Bao Chick takeout and it is a very unique chicken sandwich. The flavor is very good and the crunch is insane. Its also huge, the picture doesn't do it justice. Fries were also super tasty. One critique would be that the chicken still had the fat on it, which made some bites chewy. Overall I'd return and eat again!
Unbelievable!!! The best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. I got the original chicken sandwich and I'm blown away. They give you the option of getting a breast or a thigh, which I thought was very unique! It was so juicy and flavorful and I'm not sure what the coating is on the chicken but even with the mayo the crunch held up nicely!! Now I thought my regular sandwich was big but oh man did we learn it's not! My husband thought the insane chicken sandwich meant it was spicy but no it meant TWO chicken patties on the sandwich! It was huge!!!! It comes with the same option of breast or thigh, however the original sandwich when you order, you have the option of how spicy you were like the chicken but the insane sandwich does not offer that which my husband took as confirmation that it was their spicy sandwich but it was not spicy at all. Just something to keep in mind! Still a great sandwich! We also got the grilled Bao & Pork and another 10/10! Again, the words flavorful comes to mind when describing these! If you're gonna come, I definitely recommend these as well as the sandwich! We made our meals a combo, which let us get the macaroni and cheese and the french fries. Nothing stands out too much about those two sides. They were very standard. Very good, but nothing very wow. Especially compare to the mains! The service was quick and easy. You come order at the self order kiosk or the gentlemen at the register, you get given a buzzer and you'll just wait. I would say that amount of time that we waited was only 10 minutes at most! This is just a small restaurant in a whole cafeteria, so keep that in mind when you go! It wasn't too hard to find seating but this place is definitely packed! Bao chick was a amazing found! This place is definitely getting recommended anytime someone's ask me what's good to eat in the area!
The chicken dumplings were the star of the meal. Super juicy with a great meat-to-skin ratio. The filling was very well seasoned, and the dumpling skin was thin but sturdy enough that it didn't rip easily. The wasabi fried chicken was also really good. Made fresh to order (about 15-20 minutes), and it came out extremely juicy and well seasoned. The wasabi flavor didn't really come through, but the portions were huge! Definitely a great place for shareables!
Best service I've ever had. Before I even ordered, the guy working there gave me a sample of the chicken. I ended up ordering the Chicken Sandwich and Garlic Parmesan Fries. He also made sure we were eating everything with the sauce and seasoning that came with it. You could tell he was genuinely passionate about the food and took pride in the store, and that's what made the experience stand out to me and makes me want to come back. The portions were huge. Everything was good, and the chicken was super crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. I'd definitely come back and bring my friends.
I was born in China, so I'd say I'm pretty confident in being able to judge a Chinese food. This is easily one of the BEST Chinese food in all of SoCal. I'm shocked they aren't more famous. Both times I've been here the owner (I think it's him) sees me and before I can even finish saying 你好 (nihao, hello) he's got a sample of dumplings in my hand. The dish I've pictured is something called Cold Lamb. A better translation would be "cold-prepared lamb" but don't let the name fool you, it will be one of the best things you've ever eaten. Huge portions of meat, slathered in chili oil, with sliced cucumbers and lots of roasted peanuts. Then there's the amazing chili oil dipping sauce and a dipping powder that Im going to be thinking about for weeks. This meal was about 30 bucks but it comes with so, so much food that you could easily split it between two people. Will definitely be coming here any time I'm at SNA!
After perusing the options within the food court, Bao Chick caught my attention. Rather than the fried chicken, it was the lamb soup decal (in Mandarin) by the stall that led me to make my lunch order. The Chinese couple running the stall were quite enthusiastic in getting people to sample their fried chicken. I ended up ordering the lamb soup ($16) and a large fried chicken fillet ($9). After paying at the counter and taking a pager, I got my order after another 5 minutes. The husband running the stall (I assume) explained, with the same enthusiasm as before, which chili oil was for the soup and which was for the chicken. The lamb soup proved savory and flavorful without being too heavy. It was a touch oily, but easily cut with the bowl of rice. The soup contained plentiful protein, from lamb meat to stomach and other offal. The fried chicken filet lived up to its name. The meat remained juicy and tender throughout, The breading was flaky and buttery. It had a softer texture to it. I quite enjoyed it, though I definitely was already full from the soup. Overall, I would not have expected a food court stall to have such delicious food, especially one serving both fried chicken and lamb soup.
Wow super impressed by this fried chicken/dumpling spot in Irvine! Located in a cute mini food court area, Bao Chick was one of the first to open and the dude who worked there was saying that he had #1 fried chicken wings and I was skeptical but intrigued. Ordered the wings, some XLBs and potstickers and didn't have to wait too long for them. Homeboy was right- these were some of the best wings I've had! Crispy crunchy piping hot juicy flavorful without being too salty. Also the dumplings were fire especially those juicy XLBs and the made from scratch potstickers. Wish it was closer to me- I'd be there every day for lunch!
Hidden inside the food court, this little Shanghai-style spot is an absolute gem! The owner is incredibly friendly and walked me through all of his specialties -- and I'm so glad he did. The lamb soup was a standout: super flavorful with tender pieces of lamb that melt in your mouth. The Shanghai soup dumplings were perfectly juicy, and the fried chicken wings were everything you want them to be -- crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. On top of the great food and warm service, the place is also dog-friendly, which is such a bonus. Definitely a spot worth checking out!
A Fun Food Court Find - Bao Chick! This little food court has all kinds of international eats -- definitely a spot I'll come back to try more places But today, I started with Bao Chick, and what a great choice! The owner (let's call him the Chicken Guy ) was super friendly -- he even gave me a free chicken tender to sample and chatted with me for a bit. Turns out, he's quite the talker and has a great sense of humor! He didn't know who "鸡排哥" (the Chicken Guy meme) was, but he speaks both English and Chinese, so we had a fun little bilingual chat I ordered chicken tenders, wings, and a fried chicken sandwich, and my kids absolutely loved them. My older one even asked if we could make it a weekly thing! The fried chicken isn't greasy at all -- just crispy outside, juicy inside, and super flavorful. If you like a kick, try it with their chili powder And here's the surprise -- they also serve soup dumplings and lamb soup! I even saw some locals ordering the dumplings. The xiao long bao were juicy and flavorful, and the lamb soup was rich and tender with no gamey taste at all -- I secretly finished it myself and didn't share with the kids The lamb was melt-in-your-mouth soft, and dipping it in chili sauce made it even better! Highly recommend checking out Bao Chick if you're in the area -- friendly owner, delicious fried chicken, and some unexpectedly authentic Chinese comfort dishes!

Had such an amazing experience visiting Bao Chick in Irvine!! The owner of the shop was so kind and offered us samples of the dumplings, and we loved all the stuff we tried especially dipped in their delicious chili oil. The xiao long bao were very good, the skin is the perfect thickness and the filling is so juicy and yummy. My favorite part of this meal were the chicken strips. Best chicken strips I have ever had!!! The crispiness is seriously unmatched they're sooo flaky and tastes amazing. I wish I could eat them every day. Overall, I had such a positive experience at Bao Chick and I can't wait to come back. read more

I don't think I've ever had chicken like Bao Chick's chicken. - Location: You can find Bao Chicken as a unit in the back of Irvine's Trade Food Hall. Lots of food places in the plaza, and I believe a lot of business people flock here for lunch. - Food: My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken sandwhich and their 6 piece chicken wings (their top 2 best sellers). On the wings, batter was light and crispy, like tempura, and paired really well with the juicy chicken. However, what makes this place stand out the most from your standard chicken spot is the powder/oil that they give you! Smokey, savory, and brings out the natural umami of the chicken. They let you choose whether you want your sandwhich made with breast or thigh, and we chose thigh. The thing is huge and the meat is juicy, but the breading makes it kinda inconvenient to eat. Felt like a lot of carb especially since the combo has a brioche bun and a side of fries. I really enjoyed the cabbage slaw and almost honey mustard sauce it comes with! However, I would have liked some kind of pickled veggie or acid to cut through all the oil. We shall come back for the dumplings (again, REALLY good chili oil), and perhaps some of the other stalls since this place is nestled in a food hall. - Service: Off the bat, service was friendly and the owner was handing out fresh, hot samples. - Ambiance: Medium sized outside food court, with a smaller indoor extension of a few more stalls. Theres limited seating but it seems people don't stay there too long. It's pretty open concept and it can get quite warm, so you're lucky if you can snag one of those indoor seats. read more

I've come here every now and then for the original chicken sandwich with the thigh meat and have never been disappointed. The batter is VERY crispy, but you still get huge chunks of meat with every bite. It's a little on the expensive side at $13, but they include the whole thigh so the sandwich is very large. It's always made hot and fresh, and has plenty of flavor. Definitely recommend if you are a fan of chicken sandwiches! The owner is nice and gives a free dumpling sample whenever you order. The stall is located in a nice food court with plenty of seating and open air. I usually go on the weekends and it's a nice place to eat and relax. read more

Bao Chick is somewhere between four and five stars butI will give ultimately give it five because the owners is the hardest-working guy I've seen. He is always hustling, trying to get the attention of potential customers by luring them in with a free sample. "Chicken, number one! Dumpling, number one!" I've been meaning to try Bao Chicken and glad that I finally did. I ordered on the screen and was treated to a dumpling and chili oil while I waited. My original chicken sandwich was enormous, with the chicken sticking out from the bun. It was perfectly fried, not greasy at all, with a crispy exterior but still moist inside. It had some iceberg lettuce and a healthy dose of mayo and came with a side of chili powder to add some heat. Bao Chick also has dumplings (steamed and fried) and chicken tenders. There is outdoor seating in the food hall. Parking can be a challenge (this is one of my least favorite parking lots in Irvine because it's so small). read more

Bao Chick is located in the Trade Marketplace food court and offers up delicious fried chicken sandwiches and dumplings. The food court itself has a lively atmosphere and has a variety of other cuisines to try. Bao Chick specializes in fried chicken dishes with a Chinese twist. The portions are huge! The chicken sandwiches are the size of my head. If it's your first time, the original chicken sandwich is definitely the way to go. The fried batter is impressively voluminous and crunchy - it's also a different fried batter than regular fried chicken. I don't exactly know how, but it's very large and in charge. And the chicken is so juicy and moist. If you're not too hungry, the wings are also a good choice - but just be warned that they are also huge hahaha. They're cooked perfectly though, with the same fried batter and juicy meat as the sandwiches. The fries are also very yummy and served with a Cajun spice. The owner is very passionate in his work, enthusiastically sharing free samples of his dumplings and delicious dumpling sauce. He clearly loves his food and it reflects in his cooking. The honey mustard wings were very good, crunchy and crispy. As of this review they were $16 for 6 wings. You can make it a combo with fries and a drink, but that adds on an extra $6. The guy who runs the place said the chicken was "number 1" and I think he's right. He gave/pressured me to try a sample and won me over immediately. It's kind of in a league all its own. If you're going to Chik-fil-A you're on the bunny slopes. This is the double black diamond and only the most experienced can wrangle this much sodium. Stopped by Boa Chick for lunch and honestly, the first thing that stood out wasn't even the food -- it was the owner. He's a genuinely kind, older gentleman with the kind of personality that immediately makes you feel welcome, like you're visiting a family friend rather than ordering food in a food court. Even though the space itself is on the smaller side (it's located in a food court with other spots), it's still clean, convenient, and comfortable. We ordered a pretty solid spread: spicy xiao long bao with pork (6), grilled bao with pork (10), white garlic wings (6), garlic parmesan fries, and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Let's start with the white garlic wings, because wow -- probably some of the crispiest chicken I've ever had. And I mean crispy even after sitting for a bit. Cold or hot, that crunch is still there. The breading itself is really good, and the white garlic sauce on top is delicious without being overpowering (and I say that as someone who loves garlic). My only wish is that there was more sauce and a little more seasoning in the chicken itself, but overall? Still very good. Now the garlic parmesan fries -- I'm not even a fry person, but these completely won me over. Super crispy, perfectly seasoned, and just the right amount of parmesan. One thing about this place: if you order chicken or fries, you never have to worry about them not being crispy. That satisfying crunch is guaranteed. These fries were easily one of my favorite items. As for the dumplings, unfortunately they weren't for me. The spicy xiao long bao with pork had a very watery broth that burst out when bitten into, but without much flavor -- almost like watered-down broth. The filling itself was pretty bland. I'd rate these about a 2/10. The grilled pork bao were slightly better, but still lacked seasoning and were a bit tough to chew. I'd give those around a 3/10. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich, though? Very solid. That signature crunch shows up again, with a good level of heat that doesn't overpower the sandwich. I'd give it an 8/10 and would definitely order it again. Overall, I'd rate Boa Chick about a 7.5-8/10. The food shines most when it comes to anything chicken-related, and I'd recommend their chicken 100%. But what really keeps me coming back is the owner -- he remembers you, makes you laugh, offers samples, and genuinely asks for honest feedback. You can tell he truly cares and wants to improve. If you're craving crispy chicken, this is a great spot -- and the warm, welcoming energy just makes the experience even better. read more

I've been to this food court area for the Thai place next door and have gotten samples from Bao Chick, but now I am officially adding this place to my rotation! The owner is a fun and generous man who stands by his food (he's always saying it's #1 - and he's not wrong). I got the original chicken sandwich with chicken thigh and asked for it spicy, and it was really delicious! The chicken thigh in the sandwich was MASSIVE, crispy, and was not greasy for fried chicken. For anything other than mild spice, you get a seasoning cup so you can make it as spicy as you please. It was big enough to feed two people which was awesome. I'll be back! read more

The grilled pork dumplings were very good. I would get those again. Soft (not too thick) wonton wrapper, juicy filling, slightly crispy edges--perfection. They look very aesthetically pleasingly cute as well. Service was fine, the guy is very nice and gave us samples. My little boy loves chicken tenders/sandwiches, so he was set on trying the original chicken sandwich--no spice, and it was huge. He got the thigh, but maybe he would have liked the breast meat more (next time). I tried a little piece of the chicken, and it tasted like it had a hint of 5 spice in the batter or something. The breading is cool, but it was too oily for me. The food hall is kinda cute. There are other options for food if your party likes variety. Holy shit. This. Place. Was. Fricking. Amazing!!!! I got their original chicken sandwich and it blew all my expectations out the window. At first glance, my Fiance and I were flabbergasted by the size of the chicken. It was 2x bigger than the bun. The first bite was soooo moist and juicy. I chose chicken breast and I was shooked at how bouncy the chicken was. The whole time eating, the chicken was hot temperature wise. The season was a blend of schezuan and Nashville style. The umami was so unique that my tastebuds were having a glorious bath in boa chick's flavors. I will definitely be coming back and trying more of their menu. Thank you Bao chick! read more
Very very impressive!! Chicken is Asian style with panko crust and not traditional fried chicken. They have some decadent sauces, be sure try all. We came for their chicken tenders and chicken strips. We ended up ordering two orders of the chicken tenders (12), Nashville chicken sandwich and Beer Battered fries. Everything had a nice crisp and crunch. Their chicken was super juicy!! The slaw for the Nashville sandwich was a great compliment. The man at the counter was KIND!! Service was fast. It's located inside of "food court" so it would be great with beer or boba milk tea. read more
I stopped by here and the Xiao Long bao is well presented . Very kind and friendly service . Does take about 15 min for the bao to be ready as they must steam it fresh , cost is $10 which is reasonable I got the $12 one which has shrimp added to it .. I do recommend this place. I wasn't planning on getting any food here but I was suckered in by the sweetest man emphatically giving out samples of juicy dumplings. He was raving the people passing by about their special chili oil and crispy chicken so I placed an order for the chicken wings. They were incredible! Super crispy and flakey and the mayo sauce that went with them was delicious as well. There were huge pieces of fried chicken in one order; a great deal. I had enough leftover for later and they heated and crisped up nicely in the toaster oven. I am so glad I ended up trying this place and it's always nice to support a business with such kind hard working people behind it. read more
This review is only for the Pork Bao Buns as pictured, but they were pretty good! I don't know many good dumplings restaurants nearby. It wasn't the best dumpling I ever tasted, but it was still tasty. The dumplings were ready fairly quickly. I was impressed because when we ordered it was a pretty busy time but they were still about to keep up with the orders. I would most likely order from here again. The price is fair and there are nice dessert options around if you want to make more of an outing when visiting this location. Plan for parking to be a challenge, though, if you come here for lunch time. read more

One of my favorite spots to eat during lunch! The man that works there is super nice. He isn't fluent in English but he's always so friendly and welcoming. Occasionally he will give out samples of the grilled bao dumplings to try! That's actually what hooked me to this place first. Between the two grilled bao options (chicken&mushroom versus pork) I like the pork the most! It's super flavorful and hits just right. The chicken&mushrooms is also good as well, so definitely give it a try to see which you like more. Don't sleep on their chicken sandwiches either. They're MASSIVE. I was shocked! It comes our piping hot, it's juicy and has a nice crunch! Tip is to ask for extra lettuce and some chilling oil to spice things up. read more

OVERALL : I was in the Trade Marketplace for another shop but ended up walking by this storefront and trying out a sample of their dumplings with chili oil. The man handing out the samples (perhaps the owner?) was super enthusiastic and friendly. I ended up browsing through the menu at their self-order kiosk and chose the chicken tenders solely based on the photo! The fry / batter on the tenders looked SO crispy and I just knew they would be good. For the price, it seemed like a good amount of chicken! After ordering they give you a little pager and you can just sit in the shared tables near all the other vendors and wait for your food. PARKING : Located in the Trade Marketplace with a lot of other food vendors in the outdoor food hall area. Parking can be tight during peak hours in the lot. FOOD/DRINKS : Chicken Tenders - The chicken came out nice and hot. It was surprisingly a great portion size, enough to share -- AND the tenders were huge! You won't find any of those 3 inch tiny chicken tenders some other places try to serve nowadays at this place! The order came with a side of chili seasoning powder for spice + some mayo sauce for dipping. The crunch on these tenders are so satisfying and the batter felt really light and airy (not greasy and heavy). My only gripe is that I wanted some more flavor to them bc it started getting one-note after eating for a while. I wish it came in a spicy version / a more flavorful batter, or perhaps if they provided more of the chili powder so we can sprinkle on! I see that they have this chicken in a sandwich form, so I def think I need to try that next time because the components of the sandwich should def add more flavor in. read more

TDLR: The best chicken sandwich that I've ever had paired with the most mid soup dumplings ever. The only season why I came here is because a friend wanted friend chicken and Chinese food. Boom. I was not disappointed Xiao long bao: It's bland. The skin was super thin, the bao didn't burst during the drive, there was a good amount of soup in the dumpling, and it stayed hot in the packaging. Problem is that the bite was so flat. You get a hint of soup dumpling taste and it falls off the moment you get excited. A staff member did tell me that they specialized in pan fried dumplings which I was kindly given a sample of. It was better. Original chicken sandwich: It's the best chicken sandwich because of how they battered the chicken. The meat itself being juicy, the bread being toasted well, the cabbage being a good vegetable compliment, and the mayonnaise being ever present is already a given. What makes this special is how the batter is different from every single fried chicken or chicken sandwich spot. I don't know how to describe it, but I will eat this again. Bonus: They also sell chicken tenders and wings. I won't be surprised if they're as good. Service: 10-15 min prep time for my order. Not too bad. The staff member was all too excited to give us a dumpling sample. Bonus points there. Ambiance: It's a stall in a food court. Do you serve bone in wings? Dry rub flavors at all?
Yes. All of our wings are bone in. Most of them are crispy crunch style. Also we have teriyaki and buffalos wings are grill style.
Do you plan to serving strips/fingers/tenders?
Hello! We do serve chicken strips in store. It’s our hand crafted chicken strips.
Is this inside a business complex?
Yes! It’s in the food hall area of the plaza.
