"Return to Society, Return to all man-kind" as the menu reads... Dear Reader and fellow foodie. All you need to know is that this place is number one, chicken sandwich number one, fried chicken number one number one, Chinese fried chicken NUMBER ONE. This chicken is EXCEPTIONALLY crispy on the outside, marinated to PERFECTION, and juicy to the MAX. Try it with the honey mustard, I PROMISE you will be thinking about this place for WEEKS. Generous serving sizes, excellent spice powder and chili sauce to sprinkledrizzle on top, and the owner is AWESOME. Talk to him. Ask for a free sample if he doesn't hand you one, my head was spinning with all the delicious options in this food hall until that moment. I got the original chicken sandwich with a Chinese tea, dr pepper, and mac and cheese. I honestly would've been satisfied with just an order of the chicken wings with honey mustard. The Chinese tea is also very satisfying, milk tea that tastes authentic (had some at the Beijing airport one time). ((Im saving the mac and cheese for breakfast tomorrow, will get back to you soon)). I hope I find myself in this city again soon, I'm going STRAIGHT to Bao Chick. Forever a Changed Woman, Love Ray.
This place is SO GOOD! I just had it for the first time and it's now my new favorite chicken sandwich! "Bao Chick number 1!" On top of that, the service was incredible because the FREE SAMPLES on chicken! They are located in the back of a food court so there's plenty of seating, and dogs are allowed I believe! Plenty of sun and lovely patio-like ambiance. I'll be back once a week, see y'all there!
5/5 (based on the xiaolongbao only, didn't get to try anything else) Located in a semi-outdoors food hall, with a casual vibe, this place is counter service only and you order on the kiosk. Got the shrimp and pork and the spicy pork xiaolongbao, both were delicious. Spicy pork ones came stacked with soup, almost more than you'd expect. Shrimp and pork had more filling, less broth, but still juicy. Skin was right too, not thick enough to feel doughy, not so thin it tears before it hits your mouth. If you're in Irvine and craving dumplings, this one's worth the stop.
"No 1 chicken!" The owner (i presume) called out to me when I tarried to give the menu a look. Then he made the hard sell. "No 1 dumpling, no 1 chicken sandwich, no 1 everything!" A nod and a smile from me as I politely indicated I wanted to browse the other offerings but who am I kidding? He had me. Committed to the bit i made a half-assed round of the other offerings before coming back for "no 1 chicken." I was offered a dumpling sample which i accepted. It was good but hot enough to burn my mouth. Worth it! Anyway, i got the beijing wrap and it came with chilli powder and chilli oil (this shop owner is my kind of no 1 guy) and a rather generous wrap, filled with chicken at a reasonable price. The wrap was yummy. The fried chicken well executed and the service was memorable. This place is my number one, no 1 chicken place ;)
This was on our list to try since we saw it on IG. Glad we did today. It is located in like an outdoor dining hall in a corporate area hence we see lots of workers as customer. Maybe because that is their main client ale hence food was done quickly. First off as we approaching the place, they hand out chicken sample as well as dumpling sample. The owner (I'm assuming) introduce us the menu as #1, very enthusiastic, give out friendly vibe. In term of food, everything was delicious. The chicken sandwich was actually filled with two piece of thigh. The wing was very crispy and moist. It is still hot and crispy after 10 mins in a hot humid lunch day. The popcorn chicken portion is big. However, it deserve 4 out of 5 because the pieces are inconsistent. They also give you chili oil in case you want to spill it on your chicken. We would definitely comeback.

In a situation... where I'm craving Chinese food, but my husband wants fried chicken. Then suddenly, you get a sample. And...it turns into a full meal. Started off with this fully stuffed grilled bao. The soul? This house-made chili oil. It pairs surprisingly well with their crispy fried chicken. And their chicken wings too! A multipurpose chili oil! This is a giant "Number One" Chicken Burger that the owner is very proud of. Somehow they nailed both Chinese food and American fried chicken. Oops... almost forgot their xiao long bao! Juicy and comforting! To end this unexpected feast? A bowl of lamb soup, which I personally think pairs surprisingly well with their fried chicken sandwiches! The chicken sandwich was crispy hot and tender. It was also a decent portion for the price. You can order through the kiosk or the person. A sample was also given for you to try while you decide.
The wife and I decided to finally come check out this place. We ordered the chicken tenders and white rice. Let me tell you people, it was delicious, super crispy, portions were big. Milo was amazing, he did a song, a dance, and helped us by explaining their menu and recommended several different things, ultimately we went why the tenders and rice and it did not disappoint. I consistently find the food here to be exceptionally fresh. I particularly enjoy the fried chicken special for $10. The meal includes white rice, coleslaw, seaweed, and pickles.
Must order the chicken sandwich when you come to Bao Chick. It is perfectly seasoned and the portion size is ridiculous. Stopped by during the lunch hour after seeing social media posts about this hidden gem. I order the double chicken sandwich and although in the pricey side ($20) it is a must try. The chicken is crispy and flaky on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. I've had plenty of chicken sandwiches in my day and this is top 3, no question. Ordering was quick and I was able to score some sample dumplings from the cashier while I waited. This is in a food court so the eating area is shared with other eateries. Get here early during lunch time if want to get a parking spot. It gets crowded.
Love this place because the xaio long bao is a big size. That server is so nice. The food is amazing. I love the fried chicken too. Great place for the kids because it is a big space. Love the ambiance!
Best service I've ever had. Before I even ordered, the guy working there gave me a sample of the chicken. I ended up ordering the Chicken Sandwich and Garlic Parmesan Fries. He also made sure we were eating everything with the sauce and seasoning that came with it. You could tell he was genuinely passionate about the food and took pride in the store, and that's what made the experience stand out to me and makes me want to come back. The portions were huge. Everything was good, and the chicken was super crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. I'd definitely come back and bring my friends.

Tucked away in the corner of a food hall in Irvine is Bao Chick. Their menu is small but mighty and focuses on baos (dumplings) and chicken! I basically ordered half the entire menu, so here's what to get and what to skip. If you come here for one thing and one thing only, it's gotta be their chicken sandwich. Photos don't even do this justice. It's an absolute BEHEMOTH of a sandwich with the crunchiest chicken. They use the same kind of batter for the crispy wings, and they also have a new item, lamb soup, which is SO aromatic with generous pieces of tender lamb, highly recommend. The food was okay, but the service was amazing. The old man running the booth was so sweet and kind and offered us extra sauces and samples of the food while ordering. Nothing against the food, but it all tasted heavily deep-fried and stale. Other than that, I loved the ambience of the food plaza, food was told if ready through a buzzer and seating was in an outside but enclosed area with nice lighting. read more

I came back as second time because of the fried chicken. OMG, I have never been a fan of any fried chicken until I tasted his fried chicken, it's amazing delicious. It's very crunchy and juicy. It took me 30 minutes to drive back home. Once we go home, the fries were amazingly still fresh and crunchy. The chicken is also still warm and juicy and warm. The technique how to fry this chicken is phenomenal. My kids like everything. I am sure coming back again. I went at noon time, the parking is unpacked, which the evening is very hard to get a pot. read more

This chicken place looks pretty unassuming but it's pretty delicious. Ive never had Chinese style fried chicken like this before, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it goes with chili oil. The chicken is super fresh and crispy, and seems like the hit item here. I also enjoyed the lamb soup, particularly the soup part with rice. I'm not as huge a fan of lamb but it tastes better dipped in chili oil. Lastly we tried the Xiao long bao just because and it was one of the best XLB I've had. The skin was thin but strong and didn't break while picking it up. The soup and meat filling was delicious!! I would actually come back just for the xiao long bao by itself because of how good it is. The store front is manned by a very friendly Chinese man who enjoys handing out free samples. Also he's quite chatty if you speak mandarin haha read more

Had such an amazing experience visiting Bao Chick in Irvine!! The owner of the shop was so kind and offered us samples of the dumplings, and we loved all the stuff we tried especially dipped in their delicious chili oil. The xiao long bao were very good, the skin is the perfect thickness and the filling is so juicy and yummy. My favorite part of this meal were the chicken strips. Best chicken strips I have ever had!!! The crispiness is seriously unmatched they're sooo flaky and tastes amazing. I wish I could eat them every day. Overall, I had such a positive experience at Bao Chick and I can't wait to come back. read more

I don't think I've ever had chicken like Bao Chick's chicken. - Location: You can find Bao Chicken as a unit in the back of Irvine's Trade Food Hall. Lots of food places in the plaza, and I believe a lot of business people flock here for lunch. - Food: My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken sandwhich and their 6 piece chicken wings (their top 2 best sellers). On the wings, batter was light and crispy, like tempura, and paired really well with the juicy chicken. However, what makes this place stand out the most from your standard chicken spot is the powder/oil that they give you! Smokey, savory, and brings out the natural umami of the chicken. They let you choose whether you want your sandwhich made with breast or thigh, and we chose thigh. The thing is huge and the meat is juicy, but the breading makes it kinda inconvenient to eat. Felt like a lot of carb especially since the combo has a brioche bun and a side of fries. I really enjoyed the cabbage slaw and almost honey mustard sauce it comes with! However, I would have liked some kind of pickled veggie or acid to cut through all the oil. We shall come back for the dumplings (again, REALLY good chili oil), and perhaps some of the other stalls since this place is nestled in a food hall. - Service: Off the bat, service was friendly and the owner was handing out fresh, hot samples. - Ambiance: Medium sized outside food court, with a smaller indoor extension of a few more stalls. Theres limited seating but it seems people don't stay there too long. It's pretty open concept and it can get quite warm, so you're lucky if you can snag one of those indoor seats. read more

I've come here every now and then for the original chicken sandwich with the thigh meat and have never been disappointed. The batter is VERY crispy, but you still get huge chunks of meat with every bite. It's a little on the expensive side at $13, but they include the whole thigh so the sandwich is very large. It's always made hot and fresh, and has plenty of flavor. Definitely recommend if you are a fan of chicken sandwiches! The owner is nice and gives a free dumpling sample whenever you order. A guy waved us over happily and offered us a free sample. As I was deciding what i should order he offered a tender to try as well! The chicken sandwich was top notch(get the thighs) and perfectly breaded. As you can see for the tenders there's not just 12 it's a MOUND and the dipping sides pair amazingly. Bao Chick is somewhere between four and five stars butI will give ultimately give it five because the owners is the hardest-working guy I've seen. He is always hustling, trying to get the attention of potential customers by luring them in with a free sample. "Chicken, number one! Dumpling, number one!" I've been meaning to try Bao Chicken and glad that I finally did. I ordered on the screen and was treated to a dumpling and chili oil while I waited. My original chicken sandwich was enormous, with the chicken sticking out from the bun. It was perfectly fried, not greasy at all, with a crispy exterior but still moist inside. It had some iceberg lettuce and a healthy dose of mayo and came with a side of chili powder to add some heat. Bao Chick also has dumplings (steamed and fried) and chicken tenders. There is outdoor seating in the food hall. Parking can be a challenge (this is one of my least favorite parking lots in Irvine because it's so small). read more

Bao Chick is located in the Trade Marketplace food court and offers up delicious fried chicken sandwiches and dumplings. The food court itself has a lively atmosphere and has a variety of other cuisines to try. Bao Chick specializes in fried chicken dishes with a Chinese twist. The portions are huge! The chicken sandwiches are the size of my head. If it's your first time, the original chicken sandwich is definitely the way to go. The fried batter is impressively voluminous and crunchy - it's also a different fried batter than regular fried chicken. I don't exactly know how, but it's very large and in charge. And the chicken is so juicy and moist. If you're not too hungry, the wings are also a good choice - but just be warned that they are also huge hahaha. They're cooked perfectly though, with the same fried batter and juicy meat as the sandwiches. The fries are also very yummy and served with a Cajun spice. The owner is very passionate in his work, enthusiastically sharing free samples of his dumplings and delicious dumpling sauce. He clearly loves his food and it reflects in his cooking. The honey mustard wings were very good, crunchy and crispy. As of this review they were $16 for 6 wings. You can make it a combo with fries and a drink, but that adds on an extra $6. The guy who runs the place said the chicken was "number 1" and I think he's right. He gave/pressured me to try a sample and won me over immediately. It's kind of in a league all its own. If you're going to Chik-fil-A you're on the bunny slopes. This is the double black diamond and only the most experienced can wrangle this much sodium. Stopped by Boa Chick for lunch and honestly, the first thing that stood out wasn't even the food -- it was the owner. He's a genuinely kind, older gentleman with the kind of personality that immediately makes you feel welcome, like you're visiting a family friend rather than ordering food in a food court. Even though the space itself is on the smaller side (it's located in a food court with other spots), it's still clean, convenient, and comfortable. We ordered a pretty solid spread: spicy xiao long bao with pork (6), grilled bao with pork (10), white garlic wings (6), garlic parmesan fries, and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Let's start with the white garlic wings, because wow -- probably some of the crispiest chicken I've ever had. And I mean crispy even after sitting for a bit. Cold or hot, that crunch is still there. The breading itself is really good, and the white garlic sauce on top is delicious without being overpowering (and I say that as someone who loves garlic). My only wish is that there was more sauce and a little more seasoning in the chicken itself, but overall? Still very good. Now the garlic parmesan fries -- I'm not even a fry person, but these completely won me over. Super crispy, perfectly seasoned, and just the right amount of parmesan. One thing about this place: if you order chicken or fries, you never have to worry about them not being crispy. That satisfying crunch is guaranteed. These fries were easily one of my favorite items. As for the dumplings, unfortunately they weren't for me. The spicy xiao long bao with pork had a very watery broth that burst out when bitten into, but without much flavor -- almost like watered-down broth. The filling itself was pretty bland. I'd rate these about a 2/10. The grilled pork bao were slightly better, but still lacked seasoning and were a bit tough to chew. I'd give those around a 3/10. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich, though? Very solid. That signature crunch shows up again, with a good level of heat that doesn't overpower the sandwich. I'd give it an 8/10 and would definitely order it again. Overall, I'd rate Boa Chick about a 7.5-8/10. The food shines most when it comes to anything chicken-related, and I'd recommend their chicken 100%. But what really keeps me coming back is the owner -- he remembers you, makes you laugh, offers samples, and genuinely asks for honest feedback. You can tell he truly cares and wants to improve. If you're craving crispy chicken, this is a great spot -- and the warm, welcoming energy just makes the experience even better. read more

I've been to this food court area for the Thai place next door and have gotten samples from Bao Chick, but now I am officially adding this place to my rotation! The owner is a fun and generous man who stands by his food (he's always saying it's #1 - and he's not wrong). I got the original chicken sandwich with chicken thigh and asked for it spicy, and it was really delicious! The chicken thigh in the sandwich was MASSIVE, crispy, and was not greasy for fried chicken. For anything other than mild spice, you get a seasoning cup so you can make it as spicy as you please. It was big enough to feed two people which was awesome. I'll be back! read more

The grilled pork dumplings were very good. I would get those again. Soft (not too thick) wonton wrapper, juicy filling, slightly crispy edges--perfection. They look very aesthetically pleasingly cute as well. Service was fine, the guy is very nice and gave us samples. My little boy loves chicken tenders/sandwiches, so he was set on trying the original chicken sandwich--no spice, and it was huge. He got the thigh, but maybe he would have liked the breast meat more (next time). I tried a little piece of the chicken, and it tasted like it had a hint of 5 spice in the batter or something. The breading is cool, but it was too oily for me. The food hall is kinda cute. There are other options for food if your party likes variety. Holy shit. This. Place. Was. Fricking. Amazing!!!! I got their original chicken sandwich and it blew all my expectations out the window. At first glance, my Fiance and I were flabbergasted by the size of the chicken. It was 2x bigger than the bun. The first bite was soooo moist and juicy. I chose chicken breast and I was shooked at how bouncy the chicken was. The whole time eating, the chicken was hot temperature wise. The season was a blend of schezuan and Nashville style. The umami was so unique that my tastebuds were having a glorious bath in boa chick's flavors. I will definitely be coming back and trying more of their menu. Thank you Bao chick! read more
Very very impressive!! Chicken is Asian style with panko crust and not traditional fried chicken. They have some decadent sauces, be sure try all. We came for their chicken tenders and chicken strips. We ended up ordering two orders of the chicken tenders (12), Nashville chicken sandwich and Beer Battered fries. Everything had a nice crisp and crunch. Their chicken was super juicy!! The slaw for the Nashville sandwich was a great compliment. The man at the counter was KIND!! Service was fast. It's located inside of "food court" so it would be great with beer or boba milk tea. read more
I stopped by here and the Xiao Long bao is well presented . Very kind and friendly service . Does take about 15 min for the bao to be ready as they must steam it fresh , cost is $10 which is reasonable I got the $12 one which has shrimp added to it .. I do recommend this place.
