    Original Chicken Sandwich 香辣堡

"Return to Society, Return to all man-kind" as the menu reads... Dear Reader and fellow foodie. All you need to know is that this place is number one, chicken sandwich number one, fried chicken number one number one, Chinese fried chicken NUMBER ONE. This chicken is EXCEPTIONALLY crispy on the outside, marinated to PERFECTION, and juicy to the MAX. Try it with the honey mustard, I PROMISE you will be thinking about this place for WEEKS. Generous serving sizes, excellent spice powder and chili sauce to sprinkledrizzle on top, and the owner is AWESOME. Talk to him. Ask for a free sample if he doesn't hand you one, my head was spinning with all the delicious options in this food hall until that moment. I got the original chicken sandwich with a Chinese tea, dr pepper, and mac and cheese. I honestly would've been satisfied with just an order of the chicken wings with honey mustard. The Chinese tea is also very satisfying, milk tea that tastes authentic (had some at the Beijing airport one time). ((Im saving the mac and cheese for breakfast tomorrow, will get back to you soon)). I hope I find myself in this city again soon, I'm going STRAIGHT to Bao Chick. Forever a Changed Woman, Love Ray.

This place is SO GOOD! I just had it for the first time and it's now my new favorite chicken sandwich! "Bao Chick number 1!" On top of that, the service was incredible because the FREE SAMPLES on chicken! They are located in the back of a food court so there's plenty of seating, and dogs are allowed I believe! Plenty of sun and lovely patio-like ambiance. I'll be back once a week, see y'all there!

5/5 (based on the xiaolongbao only, didn't get to try anything else) Located in a semi-outdoors food hall, with a casual vibe, this place is counter service only and you order on the kiosk. Got the shrimp and pork and the spicy pork xiaolongbao, both were delicious. Spicy pork ones came stacked with soup, almost more than you'd expect. Shrimp and pork had more filling, less broth, but still juicy. Skin was right too, not thick enough to feel doughy, not so thin it tears before it hits your mouth. If you're in Irvine and craving dumplings, this one's worth the stop.

"No 1 chicken!" The owner (i presume) called out to me when I tarried to give the menu a look. Then he made the hard sell. "No 1 dumpling, no 1 chicken sandwich, no 1 everything!" A nod and a smile from me as I politely indicated I wanted to browse the other offerings but who am I kidding? He had me. Committed to the bit i made a half-assed round of the other offerings before coming back for "no 1 chicken." I was offered a dumpling sample which i accepted. It was good but hot enough to burn my mouth. Worth it! Anyway, i got the beijing wrap and it came with chilli powder and chilli oil (this shop owner is my kind of no 1 guy) and a rather generous wrap, filled with chicken at a reasonable price. The wrap was yummy. The fried chicken well executed and the service was memorable. This place is my number one, no 1 chicken place ;)

This was on our list to try since we saw it on IG. Glad we did today. It is located in like an outdoor dining hall in a corporate area hence we see lots of workers as customer. Maybe because that is their main client ale hence food was done quickly. First off as we approaching the place, they hand out chicken sample as well as dumpling sample. The owner (I'm assuming) introduce us the menu as #1, very enthusiastic, give out friendly vibe. In term of food, everything was delicious. The chicken sandwich was actually filled with two piece of thigh. The wing was very crispy and moist. It is still hot and crispy after 10 mins in a hot humid lunch day. The popcorn chicken portion is big. However, it deserve 4 out of 5 because the pieces are inconsistent. They also give you chili oil in case you want to spill it on your chicken. We would definitely comeback.

10/10 every time. We've been here at least 6 times and the chicken sandwich is always so fresh and tasty. It's a huge portion!

In a situation... where I'm craving Chinese food, but my husband wants fried chicken. Then suddenly, you get a sample. And...it turns into a full meal. Started off with this fully stuffed grilled bao. The soul? This house-made chili oil. It pairs surprisingly well with their crispy fried chicken. And their chicken wings too! A multipurpose chili oil! This is a giant "Number One" Chicken Burger that the owner is very proud of. Somehow they nailed both Chinese food and American fried chicken. Oops... almost forgot their xiao long bao! Juicy and comforting! To end this unexpected feast? A bowl of lamb soup, which I personally think pairs surprisingly well with their fried chicken sandwiches! No wonder the owner--and even some customers I interviewed kept saying, "This is number one!!!" Ig: socalhkfoodies

The chicken sandwich was crispy hot and tender. It was also a decent portion for the price. You can order through the kiosk or the person. A sample was also given for you to try while you decide.

The wife and I decided to finally come check out this place. We ordered the chicken tenders and white rice. Let me tell you people, it was delicious, super crispy, portions were big. Milo was amazing, he did a song, a dance, and helped us by explaining their menu and recommended several different things, ultimately we went why the tenders and rice and it did not disappoint. Service was amazing. Super cool decorations and super friendly staff

I consistently find the food here to be exceptionally fresh. I particularly enjoy the fried chicken special for $10. The meal includes white rice, coleslaw, seaweed, and pickles.

Must order the chicken sandwich when you come to Bao Chick. It is perfectly seasoned and the portion size is ridiculous. Stopped by during the lunch hour after seeing social media posts about this hidden gem. I order the double chicken sandwich and although in the pricey side ($20) it is a must try. The chicken is crispy and flaky on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. I've had plenty of chicken sandwiches in my day and this is top 3, no question. Ordering was quick and I was able to score some sample dumplings from the cashier while I waited. This is in a food court so the eating area is shared with other eateries. Get here early during lunch time if want to get a parking spot. It gets crowded.

Love this place because the xaio long bao is a big size. That server is so nice. The food is amazing. I love the fried chicken too. Great place for the kids because it is a big space. Love the ambiance!

Best service I've ever had. Before I even ordered, the guy working there gave me a sample of the chicken. I ended up ordering the Chicken Sandwich and Garlic Parmesan Fries. He also made sure we were eating everything with the sauce and seasoning that came with it. You could tell he was genuinely passionate about the food and took pride in the store, and that's what made the experience stand out to me and makes me want to come back. The portions were huge. Everything was good, and the chicken was super crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. I'd definitely come back and bring my friends.

Still low priced as ever. its like $2-4 more expensive now but damm for a decade thats such low climb. $8 for a damm delicious ooey gooey sandwich? hell fucking yes? '26 oops i never posted it. Swiss connection is now a whopping $10.5. highway robbery it is. But the bread is still unmatched for pillowy cheweyness (hot will get u a crisped exterior so always go for hot). Carrot n Daikons baguette would be my second for bread but their bread is thin flakey fall apart outside with a more airy pillowy interior. most important. do not say no to the mustard and whatever the other thing they ask if is ok to put in. the LeDIP experience is a whole deal ok. it's all or nothing. just like it should be in normal restaurants ok, like the shirt shoes and pants requirement? all or nothing. if you went to a restaurant without pants, you would not experience the experience as it was intended. take it all or leave empty handed ok? unless you're actually allergic to something. but like are u living if you miss out on the perfect combo of savory and cutting sourness? i acquired an allergy to shrimp and once a year i'll still boiling crab a lb of shrimp and just premedicate on Benadryl hoping i don't die. oh it's so good. god it itches so bad. ah so succulent. whole experience! hot french connection- can i eat this first please? oh my god i don't think i ever appreciated the soft pillowy softness of the baguette in my younger years. the outside crust is the thinnest crisp and yields immediately (unlike Lee's Trashwiches where the stale crust cuts the roof of your mouth). Simple sandwich but sometimes the best things are the simple things. Cold Swiss Connection - the only reason i get it cold is cuz this is my breakfast & lunch for the next day. so no point in melting it prematurely. i honestly can't decide between the two, so i just get both. the difference is Swiss cheese here vs the brie in the french. update-its like 10.5 now cry. and get it hot! i was wrong! it ooooozes Parking - shared with the whole center, plenty. Payment - cash, credit chip 5, or venmo? No Pay unfortunately. Credit chip wouldnt read my card either, took 3 tries, and u need to manually hold it down cuz its not secured so....not really contactless. '26 theyve modernized, apple pay now accepted so yayy. I got there just as the order was predicted to be done, but I ended up waiting another 10 minutes, which was fine for me. It's a sparsely decorated sandwich spot, with a little bit of seating, but it's clear this is a grab-n-go type place. After picking up the sandwiches, I cut both in half and ate half of each. I can't really remember what I got, but that was kind of besides the point anyways. They offer a variety of breads, so I opted for dutch crunch and a regular french roll. The dutch crunch wasn't as good as others I've had from other notable sandwich places, but the french roll was great! I liked the construction of the sandwiches, as they were tightly wrapped and not over-stuffed. Good ratios and not too large as to not be able to wrap your mouth around it. But as for the content itself, I just wasn't blown away. It was perfectly normal, but I didn't feel anything beyond that. As a lunch place, I feel like it's a good option if you want a sandwich, but if you've got something closer to you that is marginally similar, I'd head there first.

I'd rate the Peruvian Steak an 8.5/10. The bread was perfectly toasted, the mustard added just the right amount of kick, and all of the flavors complemented each other well. It would have been a perfect 10/10 if one side of the bottom bun hadn't been completely soggy from the mustard spilling out of the sandwich. I ordered my sandwich to go, so if I had waited until I got home to eat it, I think the entire bottom of the sandwich would have been soggy. That was disappointing. For to-go orders, I think Mendocino Farms should automatically serve the mustard in a separate sauce container to help prevent this issue. My other qualm was with the pickup process. When I received the text that my order was ready, it read: "Your order at Mendocino Farms - 10 - UC Irvine is ready for pickup. Please proceed to the counter." Some restaurants have signs explaining whether customers should grab their to-go orders themselves or wait for a team member to assist them. I waited patiently at the counter for several minutes while a team member saw me standing there but didn't acknowledge me. After about five minutes, I finally asked, "Can I grab my order?" The process felt confusing and could have been communicated more clearly. Overall, I thought the sandwich was delicious and a great portion size. However, I think the to-go process could use some improvement. I ended up eating my sandwich in the restaurant because I could already see the bread becoming soggy when I picked it up, which wasn't part of my original plan.
