came here recently and wow... that sourdough is no joke. we ordered to-go and sam said the guy helping him (maybe the owner or manager?) was super friendly and genuinely delightful. that already made the experience feel good before we even took a bite. we tried the french dip and the garlic turkey pesto. let me just say -- the TEXTURE of the sourdough??? chef's kiss. crusty on the outside, perfectly chewy inside, exactly how good sourdough should be. it honestly makes other sourdough spots taste a little mediocre in comparison. the french dip was my favorite. the au jus wasn't overly salty (which I appreciate), and everything just felt balanced and well executed. sam loved the garlic turkey pesto -- the mustard threw us off at first, but the more we ate it, the more it all came together in a really nice way. only con is the price. it's definitely on the higher end for sandwiches, which is the main reason I wouldn't order it super regularly. that said, you can tell the bread is baked in-house and super fresh, so I can't be too mad about it. overall, really happy we tried this spot and would absolutely come back when we're craving legit sourdough. read more

We split an 8 inch caprese sandwich. $16.99 for an 8 inch sandwich is pretty steep. $14.99 for 6 inch sandwich. The sandwich was good but there was too many competing flavors. While Sourdough & Co. is renowned for their freshly baked, warm sourdough bread and their deli style sandwiches, I wasn't that impressed during my recent lunch stop. Sourdough & Co. is located in the Cypress Village shopping center (in Irvine) ~ on the corner of Jeffrey & Trabuco Rd, near Mokkoji and Starbucks. It adopted the coveted corner lot spot of the plaza where Baskin Robbin's and Cauldron ice cream use to be. The eatery has limited seating indoors and some community outdoor patio seating. The setup is very Subway-ish, minimal in decor. Aside from the big American flag displayed proudly as you walk in, the inside is very unimpressionable. The hubs and I were not greeted or even acknowledged by staff upon arrival, even though there were 2 workers behind the counter. There literally was just 3 other pairs of people within the store besides us and only one of which was awaiting their food order. We eventually figured out on our own to order from the kiosk. I ended up ordering the BBQ chicken flat bread ($12.99) ~ which had seasoned chicken, a creamy white sauce, a rich blend of cheeses, barbeque sauce, onions and cilantro. A bit small for the price point, but still enough portion for me, as I tend to eat lighter for lunch. The dough felt a lil undercooked and I wished the overall meal was a bit crispier. It was ok, IMO. I also ordered a cup of the clam chowder, which again was a bit disappointing. It lacked the hearty, flavorful clams and just seemed to be filled with potatoes. Nothing too memorable. Pass for $7.99. My hubs ordered the 8" cholula chicken specialty sandwich ($16.99), which was prepared hot with carved chicken marinated in green chili cholula & jalapeno ranch dressing. house spread, lettuce, tomato, crisp jalapeno, and pepper jack cheese. He also said it was ok, just barely a step up from Subway. We both agreed that the sourdough bread was good, but it didn't wow us. All in all, we likely won't be back. This is a great place if you're craving a sandwich or want a quick bite. I've been back multiple times for their Cranberry Turkey Sandwich, which seems to be a holiday special (I hope it stays around). I love how crispy the outside of the bread is and the cranberry is not too overpowering. I've tried a couple of their soups too and those are tasty as well. The service depends a bit when you go and how busy it gets, but for the most part the staff are friendly and quick. The French dip had a good amount of beef and the au jus dip was not too salty! The flatbread was great as well, not too cheesy and had a great flavor! It did take about 20 mins to get my 2 orders, so expect some wait especially when it gets busy. The food is also on the pricier side. Kinda funny how everything slid out from between the bread after each bite, but I guess that's part of the experience. The sandwich came with a pickle spear (yes!!) and two thin slices of bread. Small Signature Mac & Cheese for $7.99: 3/5. The roux and pasta looked great, but this unfortunately wasn't strongly cheesy enough for me. Too pricey for the bland taste and the small portion (in a tiny cup!). Chocolate Chip Cookie for $3.49: 5/5. I enjoyed the texture and the many chocolate chips. Super good heated up, too. I tried my friend's flatbread, and it tasted amazing! Cheesy and not too doughy, with a good spread of meat. I'll try a flatbread the next time I visit. Interior had a simple, deli-shop atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating were available. Staff were friendly and accommodating. I was greeted promptly and friendly. Went right after work so it was quiet in the restaurant; there were few customers there eating and ordering. Purchased the French Dip, as well as the Cranberry Turkey; the sandwiches are very good. Love the freshness of the bread and the flavors of the meats and condiments on both were rich, tasty, and satisfying. The only thing I would recommend is that the cashier be kept separate from handling food as it is unsanitary to have gloves on that have been handling cash and the phone. Another person was also preparing food but didn't see if he had gloves on was another concern. Please address this because the sandwiches are too good. read more

So I normally avoid chain sandwich shops because I think the bread is yucky (Subway, Quiznos, etc.) BUT after trying Sourdough & Co I am now a huge fan because their bread is delicious! Their sourdough bread is freshly baked into baguettes and they are delicious! In addition to the sandwiches, you can also get a bread bowl (yum!) or baguettes to take home or even to 'take and bake' at home. Their sourdough also really tastes like sourdough since it's slightly tart the way a sourdough should be and it's super soft/fluffy on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside - the bread is perfection! They also have a fun variety of sandwiches! My favorites are the French Dip, the Caprese, the Turkey Pesto and also you can build your own. The service at the Jeffrey location was outstanding! A man named Lucky was especially helpful! Be sure to try their flatbreads and fresh baked cookies too but the bread for sure is the star! Best sandwich shop in the area!! While they have an attractive variety of menu items (salads, sandwiches, flat breads, and soups), to date, I have only purchased their take-out baguettes (a reasonable $4.99); I've had them baked there while I waited (about 3-5 minutes), as well as baked them at home (400-degrees for 12-15 minutes). Baking the loaf of bread at home results in hot-&-comforting, fresh-out-of-the-oven bread, with nice crispy crust exterior, and tender, slightly chewy interior with a subtle tanginess and slightly sour flavors. Wonderful with softened butter or brie cheese! In addition, choosing to bake at home, one can bake the desired portion of the loaf, saving the rest in the refrigerator for later. I was informed that the bread does not have any preservatives. The staff has been very friendly and approachable -- however, with differing responses to my questions on storing and shelf life (I'll ask, again, when I return). Glad to have convenient access to fresh sourdough (just wish they had gluten-free options for those with dietary requirements). Eager to taste other menu items. read more

They have a huge selection of gourmet sandwiches, unlike what you will find at Subway, Jersey Mikes, or Jimmy John's. You can tell the ingredients are premium. During my initial experience a few months ago the service was very slow. However, now that they have been open for a few months they seem to have the system down. It was tasty, but pricey, and a little odd. Came on a busy Sunday for lunch, and there were a handful of people in line. It took 15 mins for 2 sandwiches, chili, and mac and cheese. The food was decent, but not amazing. Got the turkey ruben and french dip to go (each 8 inch for $15). Turkey ruben was satisfactory, and french dip was okay but they put the au jus inside the sandwich! Definitely recommend to ask for it on the side so that your sando is not a soggy mess by the time you reach your destination. Glad each sandwich came with a pickle. Sourdough bread was nice. My friend liked the chili, and my bf like the mac and cheese (I thought it was okay: more milky than cheesy). They have a variety of soft drinks and chips to choose from. But it costs 8 bucks to add a drink and mac and cheese! There were a few tables for 4 and at least one table for 2, with a couple outdoor tables with umbrellas. The caprese had barely any mozzarella and didn't have much flavor and just looked so small and thin with not much inside the sandwich, For about $20/sandwich (incl tip) I was still hungry at the end of my meal. I even ordered the 8" size. If the price was $10-$12 then I'd prob come back but at the current price it's hard to justify. First visit today around 11am before the lunch rush because I was craving a sandwich. It wasn't too crowded yet, and the staff at the counter were friendly and helpful. Their menu has a nice variety of sandwiches that come in 4" 6" and 8" sizes along with flatbreads, soups, salads, a kids meal and even combo options. I ordered the 4" Turkey Cranberry sandwich with a cup of clam chowder, and my friend got a salad and clam chowder in a bread bowl. The food came out quickly and the sandwich was the perfect portion. The sourdough was soft and fresh and both the soup and sandwich were delicious. It also came with a slice of pickle which was a nice touch. By noon the place started to fill up with a line. The only downside was that I ordered a French Dip to go and specifically asked for no cheese, but it still came with cheese when I got home. Overall, it was a really good first visit with great food, friendly service and cozy atmosphere. I got their Italian flat bread. All I will say about it is that it's very salty and the proportion was surprisingly small. Good for one person but not for sharing. The turkey sandwich I got to go was solid, the only issue is for $12.99 if a 6" it felt really small and the 8" which I suppose is there large wouldn't be that much bigger. Tried the mushroom flat bread as well. It was good and creamy however the raw red onion threw it off a bit otherwise it was ok. Overall this place had solid service and okay food. I'd likely go back in a pinch for work lunch it's maybe a 3.8/5 so I'll land them on a 4.0. If they can adjust there menu to have a 12" I think they'd do a bit better on the sandwich side. read more

I really enjoyed it. My husband and a 6" turkey & hard salami with a side of chili. I don't eat beef so I didn't try the chili. It did smell good. My son isn't big on sandwiches so he didn't eat. I live about 5 minutes away and have been here at least 10 times. There has not been a single time where my single sandwich has been prepared in less than 25 minutes. The food is good, but be prepared to wait a minimum of 20-30 minutes for a single sandwich, regardless of time of day. They need to either hire more people or automate their system a little better. The final straw was ordering my sandwich in store, had to run home because I forgot my work phone, come back, and STILL waited 30 minutes for a single sandwich. It's becoming harder and harder for me to support this business when it takes so long. read more
