    Eating Music City E.

The smell hits you when you pull into the parking lot, there's BBQ here for sure. While the smell permeates the air, my mouth began to salivate before heading inside. From the look of the building and restaurant I expected to find a host inside and was thrown off when I realized it was a counter service quick dining restaurant instead. It was unexpected, but nothing to be upset at. The interior reminded me of the interior of a Logan's Roadhouse with tables, chair, walls, and column all made of polished wood with grain visible throughout. Very southern, very country, very fitting. Behind the counter is a digitalized menu, with so much on it I was overwhelmed at first glance. I told the employee it was my first time and just got what she recommended so I didn't have to look at that digital mess of screen again! Upon recommendation we got the 2 Meat Sampler plate with Pulled BBQ Chicken and BBQ Pork, with Mac and Cheese and Potato Salad as our sides. Also included was a piece of fried cornbread (imagine a cornbread pancake). Not a bad meal for two for $14.95 The food was out and to us quickly, and served in a white styrofoam box (a COVID-19 precaution). You can see the usual sleek metal trays the food is served on in pictures from other reviewers. Time to eat! First thing I scarfed down was the BBQ Pork. The pork was served plain without any sauce smothering it, but was accompanied with several types of BBQ sauce that was available: Carolina, Sweet, and Mild (others were available behind the counter as well) The pork was tender, and juicy, and the portion size (of all the food) was good. However, I want my pork to fall apart in my mouth and just melt like butter. This pork lacked that distinctness I look for in pork, and could have used some flavoring to accompany it other than sauce. The chicken was not my favorite. It was a pulled chicken, but texturally and visually the chicken didn't look or feel as pulled as one may expect. It was clumpier than the pork when I expected a similar look. Unlike the pork this did come pre-smothered in some type of sauce. Unfortunately, the sauce was overly sweet and way too powerful to make me want more than a forkful or two of the chicken. I am a Mac and Cheese snob, and it really showed while eating this Mac and Cheese. The only way I can think to describe it is as watered down Kraft. The cheese had very little flavor and the only little bit of flavor I could find just tasted like watery cheese sauce. The pasta was well cooked but with that unpleasant cheese water taste just made the entire thing feel squishy and wet in the mouth. If I hadn't been so hungry I wouldn't have eaten much of it. The cornbread was unique and loved how it is served in a pancake like form. But just imagine eating the driest pancake you've ever had. Cornbread is a hard thing to get right, and I understand that. But it should be crumbly without being dry and with each bite of this cornbread pancake I felt like I had eaten sand in a desert and not any amount of water would ever be able to quench my thirst. For somewhere I thought was going to be a more middle of the road sit down restaurant, I can summarize that the Bar-B-Cutie chain is simply a fast food BBQ joint, and tastes about as good as you could expect for such a place. But when you add on the price surge of BBQ on top of what you'd normally pay for fast food, the food just doesn't meet the standard.

I saw this little spot on the way to my hotel and I decided to stop by. I was in the mood for chicken and I was hoping that they had a half chicken which they didnt. They had a drive thru which I was happy about. When I got my platter I was not happy wowwed at all. There was nothing to write home about. The mac and cheese was meh, my chicken was overcooked and dry. The baked beans were decent. The best part was the Johnny cake corn bread. Overall this was okay, but missed the mark in several areas. Would I return...not at all.

Pit master certified brisket plate. For toddlers?

Just skip it. The portions given don't come close to matching their prices. There's better barbecue in all 4 directions away from Bar-B-Cutie. If I'm paying $35 for it meal, it better not look child's sized. No one pays for tiny plates for pit master meals. The flavor.... Just ok. The value and quantity is too low for ok food. Brisket: Dry, flavorless... Needs more smoke and seasoning. There is so little... See pic. I do like their chili and corn bread. But again.... Why pay for ok? It's fine. Not good, great, no delicious.... Just meh...

You've got the Jack Cawthon's legendary…read moreJack's Bar-B-Que, pitmaster Carey Bringle's incomparable Bringle's Smokin' Oasis, and then you have Edley's. For the longest time, Bringle's was my absolute favorite in town, but Edley's may have just managed to take the crown. I almost feel like I'm cheating on Mr. Bringle by saying that, but as he famously put it, "You don't have to hate somebody else's barbecue to like mine." My default order at any top-tier joint is either a brisket plate or a multi-meat combo platter with brisket as the anchor. Edley's plates come properly equipped with two sides and a slice of cornbread. Where they really set themselves apart, though, is the menu flexibility: -The Add-Ons: You can throw on a $5 upcharge to add an extra 3 oz of meat or a jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage. -Burnt Ends: Edley's offers burnt ends, which is a bit of a rarity in town and something you don't easily find over at Jack's or Bringle's. If they're available when you order, grab them. Price-wise, Edley's isn't cheap, but it's far from overly expensive. It sits at fair market value, costing roughly what you'd pay for a comparable meal at any of the other major players in Nashville. The meats are high quality, wonderfully smoked, and packed with deep flavor. Beyond the rare burnt ends, the sauces here are what truly elevate the meal. Across the board, Edley's house sauces--from their classic red to their white sauce--are probably my personal favorites in the city. Between Jack's, Bringle's Smokin' Oasis, and Edley's, you genuinely cannot go wrong--Nashville barbecue is in great hands. But right now? Edley's holds my top spot. It is my ultimate "treat yourself" meal in town.

I had the brisket tacos, which were flavorful, though a little dry. I am giving grace here because it was takeout and possibly was much more moist prior to transport. I did like how the toppings brightened things up: cheese, slaw, pico de Gallo, bean salad, and fried jalapeños. I also had the Nashville hot link, a smoked sausage with house made spicy pimento cheese and pickled jalapeños. It was indeed pleasantly spicy. We shared some fries, which were hot, crisp, and well seasoned. They also have ribs, wings, bbq nachos and fries, fried pickles, bbq chicken and turkey, various sandwiches and platters. They also offer Nashville's staple hot chicken in platter, sandwich, and taco form. Catfish is another option, in all the same varieties. Sides: cornbread, Mac & cheese, baked beans, green beans (in bone broth and bacon). Cold sides such as bean salad, potato salad, Cole slaw. They also have a couple desserts and salads available, as well as a kids menu. Very affordable, as we got meals for 15 people for only 230 dollars.

I found myself over at Bellevue for dinner, 2 hours before my hockey game. I wanted quality food…read morebut not super carb heavy but also not something that could potentially wreck my stomach. After all, can you imagine having digestive problems while playing hockey? I love barbecue so I thought I'd try this place. I walked in and it wasn't at all busy at 5:32. However when I finished my order, the line was out the door. I asked the cashier what was good and the manager (maybe owner) walked over and I asked him. I wanted ribs or brisket, but needed a 2nd opinion. He said he would choose brisket because theirs is USDA Prime and he would put it against any other barbecue restaurant in Tennessee. Those are some bold words. So I ordered the brisket platter (fatty portion) with green beans and cinnamon baked apples. What I received was 3 good sized portions (1/2 pound) of fatty brisket. The meat was tender, melt in your mouth without an overbearing amount of fat clumped together. The bark was salty and very peppery. It was actually good enough to eat without a sauce. Speaking of, there was only one sauce on the table, so I used that. It was a sweet sauce, definitely honey-based but not overly sweet like other honey-based sauces I've had in the past. The thing is I love everything honey-related, so I would definitely buy this to take home. It was so good, I was scavenging for brisket fibers on my plate. So I praised the brisket but I think the shocker was the green beans. These were hands down, the best green beans I've ever had...ever. Salty, tender, peppery, with chunks of meat and fat, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Who would have thought that a side could be that good? Last but not least, the Cinnamon Baked Apples. I love baked/fried apples. Something about the tart and sweetness brings me back every time. The apples were soft, but not mushy. I would have liked them to be a little more tender and more slices of apples. I think there was more sauce than apples but nevertheless, they were great. Overall I'm glad I visited Honeyfire for the first time. I'm here often (near Bellevue) so I'll definitely be coming back again and again.
